Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show premiered on NBC tonight. Check out some of the best bits below!

For the first time in over 40 years, The Tonight Show originates from New York City–in the same studio where Johnny Carson used to broadcast before he moved the show to Burbank in the early 70s.

Jimmy was great.. Beginning with the heartfelt comments during the opening throughout the rest of the evening. The studio looked terrific and The Roots have a cool space to play.
The $100 bit was funny esp Colbert pouring his $100 in pennies.
I am so glad Jimmy insisted on not moving to LA. The skyline of New York while U2 performed on the roof was stunning. I loved the red guitar they gave to Jimmy….very cool. As was their acoustic version of “Ordinary Love”,,,it was a great way to end the show.
I think The Tonight Show is in good hands.

Okay that was stunning. The Tonight Show has completely re-invented itself. I love watching Jimmy jam with musicians. Comedy or not, he is so into it. Think it’s safe that U2 has no problems with vertigo. Tomorrow Gaga. He’s still on too late for me to be a regular but I’m setting up the DVR.

I love Jimmy…love his sense of humour, his knack of staying “in touch” with the current scene, his singing his dancing his musicianship his comedy and his acting ability. I’d love to see him stay around for years and years…he is, by far, the most versatile of anyone who has headed the Tonight Show.

Glad to see this posted. I didn’t watch it live, but based on these videos, I need to start watching. I do love Jimmy’s humor.

I think he sounded nervous as hell at first (and had a case of the mushmouth LOL), but warmed up as the monologue went on. That $100 bit was hilarious! It was a solid show last night. Once he fully relaxes into the role he’s going to be great.

Thank you, MJ, for including this here. I can watch these clips here in Finland and get an idea of what the show’s like now! All video clips can’t be seen here.
Jimmy Fallon’s own show was broadcast here for a short while, with a few days’ delay, a few years ago. I really enjoyed it, I liked his humor, acting and singing ability, they way he treated the guests and carried on the conversation with them. I think I preferred other shows’ bands better than the Roots, but they were OK, too.
In Finland, they’ve shown Conan O’Brien’s show (it was popular as long as he compared his looks with the looks of our president at the time)(I didn’t like O’Brien’s show even when I lived in NYC in the 90’s), Ellen DeGeneres’ show, Jimmy Kimmel’s show, all on regular tv channels. In addition, there used to be Leno’s show and still is David Letterman’s show on a pay-channel.
For some reason, the American talk shows don’t seem to have audiences that are sufficiently big for the channels to run the shows. Certainly, there are lots of people Finns don’t know as guests, but also a huge number of stars and musicians who are really well known here. There were very many guests I didn’t know, either, even though I lived in the US for 7 years and still follow US affairs (and entertainment) very actively.
I miss those shows, however, as I miss also my NYC years (I do go back every now and then!). Letterman is my favorite No. 1, but I don’t want to pay for the channel that runs his show since all other programs there are sports or some other masculine stuff, heh.
Good luck to Jimmy! I hope one of our channels would start to broadcast if, to give it a try.

I think I’m going to have to take some dramamine after that “Top of the Rock” U2 performance.

I can’t blame him. He doesn’t want to fail. I love this guy. He’s just so damn cute and sweet. I think he’s going to be the king of late night because overall, his level of creativity pop culture enthusiasm and humility is fresh.

Thanks for posting these, MJ! Love Jimmy :)

Thought the show was great!! Love Jimmy. Will Smith and U2 were great as the bit paying him the $100. I was nervous with the Roof tope performance, especially those musicians in the back row, but it was fabulous.

Slezak and Ausiello talk about the 10 things that they absolutely hated about Fallon’s debut on the tonight show. It’s hilarious!1/the-tonight-show-starring-jimmy-fallon-season1/
