Todrick Hall – Spell Block Tango – Feat Adam Lambert, Amber Riley, Pia Toscano – VIDEO

Todrick Hall teamed up with Marlon Wayans’ new company “What The Funny” to produce a viral Halloween video.

Todrick’s latest creative effort is a spooky and clever take-off on “Cell Block Tango” from the Broadway Musical Chicago, featuring Disney characters that you know and love.

The all star cast includes Adam Lambert (Captain Hook), Amber Riley (Ursela the Sea Witch), Pia Toscano (Maleficent) Shoshana Bean, Cassie Scerbo and Blake McGrath.

“I have always had a strange fascination with the Disney villains’ side of the classic fairy tales,” said the American Idol season 9 alum, “and now through the music of Chicago you’ll get to hear their stories.”

    Where’s the video?

  • gem2477

    very well done LOL

  • Mel432

Now Todrick Hall is the definition of multi-TALENTED. What can’t he do? Pia surprised me. She was good. Of course, Todrick always has really talented people in his videos.

  • girlygirl

Pia’s in this? I didn’t recognize her, then

  • YankeeFan08

Enjoyed this so much! Very, very creative. So much talent in one video!

  • Montavilla

She plays Maleficent. I didn’t recognize her, either. I also didn’t recognize the character. That’s not a diss on her, it’s just that the story from the song didn’t fit the Sleeping Beauty story as naturally as the other ones.

I loved Amber Riley as Ursula! I loved everyone, actually, but she stood out to me.

I also loved the make-up. What an incredible job they did.

  • LongKissGoodnight

The costumes are gorges the singing is good but from the characters standpoint what they are singing does not make much sense.

  • seashellz51

This is so creative! All the way thru to the end with the squished ‘Tinkerbell’ ….lol Very well done.

  • Mel432

People have been tweeting why Adam didn’t sing nor have a bigger part. Here is Todrick’s response:

The video was very last minute. Adam was super busy but stopped by? with just enough time to make a cameo. Tweet Adam and we’ll get him to star in something very soon. I’ll make it happen. Love you guys!

  • Miz

    Todrick is very clever.

  • Beaugard Stevens

Where is the video? What do you click on? I don’t see a link anywhere

  • H.A.

Todrick Hall is destined for bigger and better things. The guy is multi-talented and creative.

  • Pat H

Toddrick is so talented! Too bad he let the judges get in his head on his Idol season! I think this is his best video yet! This guy has a future in film making, I think!

  • ZsusK

    Really, really good!

  • JLE12

That was really well done. Love that song. The ending was hysterical. Squashed Tinkerbell. Oh, hell no. LOL

  • Landon Cox

    But who played King Stefan?

  • Beaugard Stevens

i can see the video now. It’s very well done. great costumes, great singing, the concept of it is just not very appealing, I can’t really see kids getting into this, it’s overlong and a bit boring, the funniest part is Todd getting flyswatted at the end- but it’s still an amazing job, I think he needs better concepts with wider appeal, though, but maybe I’m wrong.

  • Lynn Di Resto

I don’t know which one is Pia either.

  • Mateja Praznik

The one that strangles the king.

  • Henrique Mendes

I was thinking the same! King was HOT

  • halo9125

King Stefan is played by Blake McGrath.I believe.

  • suenigma

This is based on the classic Chicago. Fans of Broadway and or Disney will absolutely get nand love this. It is not throwaway and the structure is deceptively complex – anything but boring, IMO.

  • standtotheright

Yeah, it’s a fantastic concept and all the performance elements are there but it’s soap-opera/OUAT Disney, not “[the villians’] stories.”

I feel like there is probably other source material that would be better served by the Chicago treatment.

  • Montavilla

I’m thinking it’s better than he didn’t go that far. Otherwise, he might be concentrating on music and not on these videos, which are so fun!

This was really good. I probably need to watch it a couple more times to get all the references. How does Adam manage to cross just one eye? Lol

  • Montavilla

I don’t think this is aimed at little kids. It’s using Disney films as source material — much as Once Upon a Time does. Those films are old enough that adults know them (either having seen them as children, or as parents, or, like me, because they are good films). If parody is your thing, both sources (Disney and Chicago) are easily identified in pop culture.

  • halo9125

This is off the charts clever. And to think it was filmed less than a week ago!

  • milwlovesadam

Love this so much! Todrick makes such great vids. He has some major talent here too. He and Adam are old friends, and Shoshana Bean goes back to Adam’s Wicked days.

Chicago and Cell Block Tango are a personal fave of mine. That Todrick mixed the evil Disney ladies with the man-killers of Chicago is hilarious to me. Bravo.

  • jobeob987

Todrick Hall is so talented. I remember telling my husband during Todrick’s season of Idol that he was born to perform whether that meant a large stage, Disneyland or the county fair. :-)

  • lkingcorn

This is a must see! One of my favorite show tunes couples with my favorite Disney characters–a winner!

  • HKfan

This was a good video, wish Adam could have sung though. Kind of felt he was only put in there to use his name for hits, although they’re good friends so I’m sure it wasn’t meant to be like that at all. Hope fully next time..

I prefer his Cinderonce video though.

  • milwlovesadam

Captain Hook’s County Jail rhymes with Cook County Jail. Chicago. Perfect.

  • pj

I always thought Toddrick got a little too much grief. I think he’s sooo talented and also hard working. That should bode well for him.

I wasn’t a Pia fan on the show, but I’m pleasantly surprised by her performance on this.

  • pj

I didn’t recognize her at first. That’s a good thing. Means I wasn’t paying attention to her as “Pia” but her role.

  • Connie

Todrick is so creative and always a delight to watch.

  • Sharon S.

Todrick Hall is amazing. I remember being disappointed when he was eliminated during Season 9; I’d seen the same joy in his performances that I’d seen, and loved, in Adam’s the year before. He clearly loved to perform, and the season could have used a lot more of him. But things happen for a reason, and I do think things worked out for the best – for him, anyway, if not for the show. His creativity is incredibly impressive, as his videos prove. I love “Cell Block Tango”, and having it performed by Disney villainesses (and one villain) was a stroke of genius. I selfishly hope that he does get Adam to star in a video – I would love to see what they’d come up with!

  • Landon Cox

I know Blake is playing Prince Eric but I don’t think he’s Stefan too

  • lucky181

This isn’t Todrick’s original idea. It looks like it’s based on a video from 2009.

  • waitingforthe1

not even remotely similar other than containing disney characters and using the cell block tango theme.

  • gem2477

Chicago is definitely an adult show.

  • lucky181

I meant that using Disney characters is the whole theme of the video, which has been done before.
