    YAY!!!!!!

Has anyone checked out the comments section on Perez? Half the people on there are totally clueless that it is for the 2012 soundtrack, despite oh, I don’t know, a MILLION scenes from the movie on there. http://perezhilton.com/2009-10-21-new-glambert#respond

He IS #9? He’s topping the might “I’ve Gotta Feeling?” Whoohooo! Let’s see if he can do it, do it, do it again and Top Gaga.

Congrats Adam!!!!! Keep it smolderin’ baby!

Out of curiosity, did LLYD crack the top 10 when it came out? Does anyone know how it’s doing on the charts right now?

Apparently this song is on his album now so it’s not just for the 2012 soundtrack.

I’m starting to think this song IS his single.

    itunes Canada – #4 on pop – #6 overall

Now that it looks as though this is on FYE – I doubt we will see anything else before the album is released.

Wow! It must have been the video premiere. This is great! I was concerned about whether or not Adam could top the Black Eyed Peas. I Gotta Feeling has been there for awhile.

If Time for Miracles can hit peak at at least 5 I will be overly thrilled!!

  • Studio57

honowoowoo- Mine still says 10- are you sure?

I just thought of something. I know people like to compare with other seasons, but how can you tell by chart position how Adam is doing compared to anyone last year without knowing the numbers? Is it possible that, say, Archie was number one last year and sold 100,000 units and Adam is #9 this year and sold the same? What if Archi has weaker competition? The reason I say this is because someone posted last weeks sales for Lady Gaga and BEP and they both sold around 100,000 units despite being # 8 and #9.

I know people hate this, but I love to talk about this part of AI.

  • weareallinnocent

    I’m overly thrilled now! :-)

Congrats to Adam, he deserves it. Karma~

ETA: I agree that comparisons are an exercise in the inexact, at best. But, AI breeds it, and so it is. :-)

  • Studio57

I’m starting to think this song IS his single.

Adam said a week ago this is not his first song- that he would be debuting his new song on the AMA’s, although we would hear it earlier. I think he is going to have two songs out at once, but it is possible he changed his mind.

    MY ITunes still says #10

    Yay for Adam!

  • fadetowhite

The funny thing is that the song does kind of grow on you.

I even found myself with the chorus in my head today.

    Weird.

Mind you, I found the premise of the video a bit mad – and this is not Lambert’s fault in any way whatsoever: it’s just the way these disaster movie song/videos play.

The whole world is literally falling apart. Everyone’s panicking and there’s this one guy walking the other way and singing about love.

    Ooooookay.

But I am beginning to enjoy Lambert a bit more. I liked the bit when he really went for it at the end: it was actually convincing!

Now, if he can just stop with the facial over emoting/acting… lol

Great news! keep rising, come on you can do it.

I am so glad he reached the top 10.

    Natasha,

I’m starting to think this song IS his single.

I really don’t think so it’s just icing on the cake – he has mentioned so many times that his official single will be completly different, a dance tune and epecially when talking up the permiere on the AMAs he wants dancers and costumes, does not sound like TFM.

If you meant in regards to the success and all the talk about his first single for sale? Maybe. But definately another song will be released as the Albums first single.
TFM is more Bonus track if indeed added to the album.

  • http://mjsbigblog.com honowoowoo

Yep … just went back it’s still at #9 … I go to iTunes store, music, pop and then on the far right Top Charts, Songs and it looks like this:
1 Meet Me Halfway – Black Eyed Peas
2 Part in the U.S.A. – Miley Cyrus
    3. 3 – Brittney Spears
4 Whatcha Say – Jason Derulo
    5 Replay – lyaz
6 Down (fea. Lil Wayne) – Jay Sean
    7 Paparazzi – Lady Gaga
8 I Gotta Feeling – Black Eyed Peas
9 Time for Miracles – Adam Lambert
    10 Sweet Dreams – Beyonce

    Am I doing this right?

  • Mary102

He is still at #10 – updated one minute ago. I believe #9 is the pop charts position.

ETA: honowoowoo – not doing it wrong – just a different chart. The main one (all songs) has him at #10. The Pop chart (sub-chart) has him at #9. Both great news!

  • yeahyeahsure

Did Archie’s Crush go #2 on its first day of release or the next day too like TFM?

I go to this one and change the tabs like “songs’, top 10, and

    its easier to me:

  • Mary102

Sucks that they classified it as Pop, probably by far the hardest chart to move up. If he was classified as rock, wouldn’t he easily be #1 now?

  • Kirsten

Did Archie’s Crush go #2 on its first day of release or the next day too like TFM?

It went to #1 on it’s first day. It was #1 for the week on digital downloads and #2 for the Hot 100 (not enough airplay).

You can see the popularity lines on itunes if you go to ‘View’ , scroll down to ‘options’ there will be a list with boxes, click on the ‘popularity’ box. It’s pretty cool.

  • Studio57

    Am I doing this right?

No, honowoowoo. You are on the pop chart. The main chart is the one you want ( you don’t click on one of the subgenres)

Thanks DLee- I never knew how to do the popularity bars. He looks pretty close to BEP and Gaga, doesn’t he?

  • Mary102

If you meant in regards to the success and all the talk about his first single for sale? Maybe. But definately another song will be released as the Albums first single.
TFM is more Bonus track if indeed added to the album.

I think we’re starting to get a taste of some of the confusion we worried about way back when we first heard that both TFM and another single would be coming out in the fall – how would the timing work out, the marketing? Would one get in the way of the other? Would the success of TFM throw off the marketing push for both the main single and the album?

It’s sort of just comes with the territory. Adam got a huge break by being asked to do the song for 2012 in the first place, so no way he’d want to turn that down. But with it comes the somewhat more muddled landscape, especially to the potential audience outside the AI bubble who might not understand TFM vs another single, vs the album, etc.

  • http://myspace.com/susanatfox sumidol

LLYD – what is that? Yay for Adam, I woke up with his song in my head this morning – so happy for him

I dont think it is muddled, if it is good, peeps like it, they will buy and not wonder about whether it is his first single or not

  • DLee

Mine still says 10, but #9 and #8 each only have one bar more than TfM.

  • KLI

Adam is so collaborative and has had nothing but good things to say about his label so far, but if they don’t put out a single other than TFM prior to the release of his album I am pretty sure that he will NOT be pleased. I sincerely hope this doesn’t happen to him because he so wants to put out his own music, and this just aint it.

Could he possibly have to sing TFM at the AMAs? That would be a big let down. I hope they don’t go in that direction.

  • karenw

I’m now starting to thing that I live in the most backward country in the world .. it’s still not available on UK itunes …. we’re all just sitting here waiting to click on “buy” … arggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh

I’m wondering too if we’ll get another single for a while (apart from TFM) … although I thought that the AMA’s performance was supposed to be him singing his “new” single and I can’t see TFM being performed there with dancers dressed in glitter and boas .. perhaps another single will be released then.

  • Natasha

Now that it looks as though this is on FYE ‘“ I doubt we will see anything else before the album is released.

Does this mean he’s going to sing this at the AMA’s? Gross. I don’t think the AMA’s are going to get what they bargained for there. They probably thought it was going to be a dance track and they’re getting some power ballad instead. I guess it will be more promotion for 2012.

  • yeahyeahsure

It went to #1 on it’s first day. It was #1 for the week on digital downloads and #2 for the Hot 100 (not enough airplay).

Thanks! I forgot that it went #1 on iTunes. I swapped it with the Hot 100 LOL.

  • LVanna

Now, if he can just stop with the facial over emoting/acting’ ¦ lol

fadetowhite: Sorry but ITD. If he stopped, it just wouldn’t be Adam. I think this is part of his overall charm, his raw over-emotion. I LUV it. No one else could pull this off IMHO.

The funny thing is that the song does kind of grow on you.

Now I agree with you. The first time I heard it I thought it was just o.k. and I loved it because it’s Adam’s voice. Then I listened again and again. Now I am totally agreeing with Brian May. This song is awesome, like Adam. I am so sick of bubble gum and this song is fiercely exciting.

ETA: I find his over-emoting, singing, acting to be very sexy. Would expect no less from him. My friend didn’t even like him until now and she said this song/vid gives her goosebumps, one more new fan added. Go Adam!

  • dhunken

MJ thanks for the Pic of the top 10 in your thread nice to see it and not just hear about it. This song grows on me more and more and just when i think I could not possibly like it any more….I do. The Itunes version I downloaded is such a better quality and you can understand the words compared to the Youtube versions. I love the Video and it make me love the song even more. I also find myself humming or singing this song throughout the day. My favorite line is “I just want to be with you”….(heavy sigh)….and though I find Adam good looking I don’t find him OMG take me now good looking….It’s just the way he sings that line that makes me believe him… :-)

  • Mary102

I’ve been too embarrased to ask, but how does this number translate to time? I tried looking at it from a military time ‘ ¦ I know, slow ‘ ¦ but I really want to understand this. Help?

LOL! Don’t worry! I had the same problem yesterday!

Mainly, the number after SF currently looks about like this:

    8987391

In itunes lingo it probably translates to seconds, or some other measure of time. To us, it means nothing, but basically what I usually do is just increase one of the numbers and refresh the page. If you’re doing it every 10 min, you don’t need to do more than just, say change a number in the middle (to say 8988391). Then, after refreshing, you should see a new date after each song on the list, which will show the last time it was updated. It should ideally have a time that is very very close (as in a minute or two), from the current time. That means you have about as close to real time as you can get)

I just guessed this along the way, so I may be wrong. But this is how I did it :-)

  • colette

OK, I really do get that people are buying Adam’s single (or whatchamacalit) because they like him, like the tune, etc. That’s No. 1.

But he’s also had excellent p.r. support, which really exploited the novelty of a flamboyant new rocker who is bringing glam back, and who is one of the most uncoyly out gays the industry has ever seen.

Obviously, Adam is a very sophisticated showman — all those years of keeping at it in cabarets, musicals, etc. made him perfectly ready to take full advantage of this huge Idol break. That doesn’t in any way disparage his great talent.

But now I’m going back to worrying a lot about Kris. I’ve tried to say, hey, he has droves of loyal fans eager for his first album, and contrasting his musical path’s and Adam’s is absurd, given who entirely different they are as artists.

But criminy, the lead up to this release was SO MUCH better than dropping Kris’s single down a rabbit hole. I still DO NOT GET IT. Why was that done so awkwardly? Why isn’t Kris getting his face on big info-tainment TV shows more? Is there ANY strategic plan for the album, other than just putting it out there to sink or swim?

On its own merits, LLWD is a great cut and it’s been critically praised for the most part. But this is really an object lesson in how much an emerging artist needs a record company behind him or her, with full court press. Melinda Doolittle cut a very nifty first album, and it died on the vine. And I’m fearing that Kris may face the same fate if his masters don’t get with it NOW…..

  • PattyH

Absolutely, Studio57! Ranking depends on all the numbers of the people around you.

  • IndyMuse

Studio57, yes, it’s possible to be #9 one week and outsell the #1 in a weaker week, though unlikely with that much difference in rank. It depends on rank for the whole week, the competition, the economic climate, etc. So no one can say until we get the sales numbers in a week.

I do think the actual sales are more meaningful than the iTunes rank, BTW. ITunes has more relevance for singles than it does for albums, BTW. Typically sales on iTunes for a song make up a huge percentage of its sales compared to Amazon, for instance. The iTunes rank for albums can be dicier as an indicator. Early in an album’s life, I’ve observed it is a larger % of overall sales than at any other time, but generally the big box stores are still the prime movers of albums, though Amazon pre-orders are a great indicator.

I don’t expect this to happen. Very recently Adam has talked about preparing to pick the first single – heck he just finished recording a Lady Gaga song, so until all of the songs are in place, in the next few days, I can see him needing more time to pick the first one.

However, as I mentioned above, I do believe that if TFM really takes off over the next few weeks, it will muddle the release of the first single.

Then again, if in a “worst” (not really bad imo) case scenario, TFM continues to do well and even better, and the first single can’t be released, but he can premier said single at a much later date, say, at the AMA performance, I think that would definitely be a-ok, not to mention a very good position to be in!

  • DLee

Sorry if this is OT but I just figured out why FOR YOUR ENTERTAINMENT was chosen as the album title. How much do you want to bet it is also a song on the album and it’s the sexiest, dirtiest song on the album and once we hear it, FOR YOUR ENTERTAINMENT will take on a whole new meaning?

-I don’t know how to comment on this but maybe 19R have tried selling him to the media but only a few took the bite. But I know Kris is also getting gigs left and right and sooner or later his single will eventually pick up. I would like to think that those buying the TFM single right now are still fans of the AI bubble. However, I do agree that the video premiering with MJ’s This is IT is a huge plus for Adam to crack into the mainstream.

collete - I agree with a lot of your points, and I honestly think Jive did screw up Kris’s release in some very unfair ways (friday release, little fanfare except two radio appearances, no itunes banner, late with the single cover, etc).

I keep holding out hope that once more prominent PR for Kris kicks in (and it will get more intense as we get into November – he already has a ton of performances and interviews lined up) that the word will get out more and that will cause LLWD to pick up more spins and steam. We may have to wait till the album drops (or, indeed, the weeks after) to get a better sense of the full picture.

two different bags of money supporting each release.
    LLWD is soley 19E/Jive.
TFM is solely 2009 Columbia Pictures Industries, Inc/Sony Music
It will also be a hard comparison when Adams ‘Dance/Electronic’ single comes out – even though that will be 19E/RCA because contract obligated hype/appearances and independent requests for appearances by parties outside 19E asking for either one is not part of the package.
If Adam has more ‘press’ it likely has nothing to do with their management.

hi studio57 - i found these stats for ‘Crush,’ in some old notes saved from mj’s last year… you can use them for comparison, or a point of reference for tfm…

Chart guru, Fred Bronson, of Billboard devotes this week’s Chart Beat column to David Archuleta’s remarkable Hot Shot Debut at #2 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100. I posted some general stats yesterday. Here are his list of official Billboard stats:

Here are his list of official Billboard stats :

    1. The highest new entry on the Hot 100 of 2008.
    2. The highest debut ever on the Hot 100 for an American Idol song not performed on the series.
    3. The highest-debuting single on the Hot 100 since the No. 2 bow of Fall Out Boy’s ‘This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race’ the week of Feb. 3, 2007.
    4. Archie is only the ‘second runner-up to outperform the ‘Idol’ winner from the same season. The first was Clay Aiken, who went to No. 1 in 2003 with ‘This Is the Night’ while second season champ Ruben Studdard peaked at No. 2 with ‘Flying Without Wings.” Cook’s coronation single, ‘Time of My Life’ peaked at #3 on the Hot 100.
    5. ‘Crush,’ which debuts at No. 1 on Hot Digital Songs, is the fourth entry for Archie on the Hot 100. His first three all debuted the week of June 7 and spent one week each on the chart: his version of John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ at No. 36, Elton John’s ‘Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me’ at No. 58 and ‘In This Moment’ at No. 60.
    6. ‘Crush’ is the seventh single to debut inside the top 10 of the Hot 100 in 2008, including Taylor Swift’s ‘Change,’ which enters this week at No. 10. Bronson posts a summary: No. 2: ‘Crush,’ David Archuleta (Aug. 30) No. 3: ‘The Time of My Life,’ David Cook (June 7) No. 5: ‘Burnin’ Up,’ Jonas Brothers (July 12) No. 8: ‘Tonight,’ Jonas Brothers (Aug. 16) No. 9: ‘New Soul,’ Yael Naim (Feb. 16)No. 9: ‘Forever,’ Chris Brown (May 10) No. 10: ‘Change,’ Taylor Swift (Aug. 30)

Finally, Bronson lists a summary of songs recorded by American Idol finalists, but not performed during the course of competition that have debuted in the top 10:

No. 2: ‘Crush,’ David Archuleta (Aug. 30, 2008)
No. 4: ‘Solitaire,’ Clay Aiken (April 3, 2004)
No. 6: ‘I’ll Stand By You,’ Carrie Underwood (May 12, 2007)
No. 8: ‘Never Again,’ Kelly Clarkson (May 12, 2007)

SORRY, I would have done it if I could :(

Adam’s video is so great. I just love it.

  • BestAI

Could he possibly have to sing TFM at the AMAs? That would be a big let down. I hope they don’t go in that direction.

Yeah, sure. Can you imagine backup dancers for this song?

Gahhh why can’t the team responsible for the MySpace vid fix the aspect ratio of the clip?? The video looks so much better when it’s not looking squashed horizontally.

I posted this in the previous thread but got lost in the influx of new posts. Here’s the fixed aspect ratio version I made (iphone/ipod touch compatible):

I like the homage to Roxy Music’ ‘For You Pleasure’ theory better. But I am certain that there will be a good story about the title!

Adam’s quote in one of yesterdays interviews:
“It’s all fantasy ‘” that’s what entertainment is. I’m here to entertain you, and if my sexuality is apparent and you respond to it, and you’re attracted to it, then great, I’m doing my job.”

The album title “For Your Entertainment” is Corporate PC Adam code for “Let me bring you to tears with my voice, make you laugh until you cry, dance you into exhaustion, and titillate you to within an inch of your life until your panties go poof! and you collapse into one big pile of steaming drool. You will go happy, deeply and thoroughly satisfied, and with a smile on your face, I promise you that!”

Obviously that was much too long for an actual album title so they just went with the shorthand version- “For Your Entertainment”.

” how can you tell by chart position how Adam is doing compared to anyone last year without knowing the numbers? Is it possible that, say, Archie was number one last year and sold 100,000 units and Adam is #9 this year and sold the same? ”

Archie sold 166K downloads his first week. The #1 song last week on iTunes sold around 185K. (I think it was Britney’s new single). The #10 song last week sold 80K.

This week is actually not a particularly competitive one because TFM is one of the few singles to debut. The #1 album (Michael Buble) isn’t going to be much competition in the singles market. The other songs in the top 10 have been there for awhile. I think TFM could make it to #7 on the chart but it’s really hard to predict total sales until Sunday.

  • lucy

I just thought of something. I know people like to compare with other seasons, but how can you tell by chart position how Adam is doing compared to anyone last year without knowing the numbers? Is it possible that, say, Archie was number one last year and sold 100,000 units and Adam is #9 this year and sold the same? What if Archi has weaker competition? The reason I say this is because someone posted last weeks sales for Lady Gaga and BEP and they both sold around 100,000 units despite being # 8 and #9.

Something tells me it’s very hard to compare.

We do know that, overall, this year’s sales are lower than last year’s, on average, and last year’s lower than the year before, yadda yadda yadda. But it also varies a *lot* from week to week, looks like to me. So — awfully hard to predict, I think.

ggdoorsfan….Great and when Adam’s first single is actually released then I will be interested.

ggdoorsfan: Thanks. Archies stats are very impressive but what I wanted to know was how the numbers were for everyone else in his top 10. Actually, it’s not even that. I just wanted to know if it was possible that Adam can chart in the 100,000 unit range if he continues up the chart just a few more spots.

jpfan- I don’t think you got what I was trying to say, but that’s okay- I am just going to wait for the numbers

Really, they don’t go to the big tv shows and such with their singles. They go with their albums. I suspect that has as much — at least — to do with what the tv shows will actually book as it does with what the label would like. Kris will get some big exposure, but the media outlets want them when they have a whole album to sell, not when they just have one song, I think.

My beloved Melinda, like my beloved Elliott!, is on an itsy bitsy independent label, and simply *cannot* get either the radio play or the big-time tv and other bookings, interviews, exposure, etc. that the major label people get.

So don’t fear that Kris will suffer her fate. He *will* get some major exposure — but it’ll come with the album drop, not the single. And that major exposure *will* help his sales — plus, he’s getting growing radio play, which is always a good thing!

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ Zsus

Crush also came out during the tour, while Archie’s popularity was still high and Idol fans were still following blogs, etc. daily for tour updates. Adam’s release of TmF is a solid 2 months later. Every factor is… well, a factor. Also, when people were talking about Cook going to #3, I thought they meant with Light On, not TOML. I put coronation songs in an entirely different category.

  • ggdoorsfan

One point that may/may not have been made before…

Unemployment/consumer spending come into it. Last year, real unemployment was still under 10%. Now, “real” unemployment figures stand closer to 20%. By real, I mean stats that include people who have had to take part-time work when they really want full-time work. Also people who have stopped even trying to get a job. People whose unemployment benefits have run out, and so forth. If you don’t believe me, go check it out on the Wall Street Journal site.

My point is, 1 in 5 Americans is unemployed right now. That HAS to affect sales. Not just Adam’s sales, mind you… but all sales.

    Just a thought.

Crush did come out during the tour. But it also came out pre-Twitter.
And aside from a Z100 appearance, Archie had no other promo because of the tour. TFM is getting lots of nice promo. I heard the video is even being previewed before the biggest grossing film ever. That should sell a few downloads.

I think LO went to #4 the week it was released. Coronation singes do follow their own rules. TOML sold something like 250,000 downloads in one week. Or maybe even more. I can’t remember.

  • Truthiness

I was also expecting more from the next world’s biggest star

Interesting, somehow I don’t think Adam’s fans have those expectations, thankfully, both for Adam’s sake and for our own peace of mind. LOL

I know I sure don’t expect him to be some international superstar or some iconic presence. I think it’s going to be hit or miss with Adam, he has a real chance of striking out, much more so I feel than some others. And even if he does become successful, than I put it in the reasonable expectations of today’s music market and economy, both of which suck. So yeah, some fans may be prone to hyperbole once and a while, but I think if you asked most Adam fans, they’d agree with that. Outliers exist, but they’re outliers for a reason.

  • suebrody

Aw, another Adam thread? I was still on the last one (@600 and counting!!!).

ANYHOO…I am sure that FYE is on the album (I remember his saying that he would be choosing one of the song titles as the name of the album). OTOH, he said TfM would NOT be on the album, so maybe he’s changed his mind? (Of course, the latter might be RCA’s decision.)

I dunno about the title. I hope it won’t be taken in the wrong light (e.g., USE ME, I am only here for YOU), b/c the last person who would think that would be Adam. OTOH, he IS a performer–he has always said that–so this is saying, Well, I hope you enjoy this, it’s not THAT deep (unless, of course, you enjoy deep things, and then there is probably at least one or two introspective things for you on here as well, and he alluded to one during his EW interview, the one with the very cute Dickens scarf). But I am sure it will grow on me favorably, the way TfM and particularly the video has.

Whatever, I am SO happy for Adam. His dreams are coming true! And for me, it’s all about Adam and his extraordinary talent and success, current and future, and our fortune in getting to be witness to and part of it.

Man, am I getting philosophical today…

Was D.A.’s music available internationally? Adam’s sales in US have been diluted because TFM was available in so many countries before the US and peeps might have already downloaded the file from their own local itunes (we can safely exclude most of Asia since we don’t have itunes music store and would either have to wait for physical cd, creative itunes purchasing using gift cards or through gifting).

Yeah, I guess that’s true, isn’t it? On the other hand, I know that I’ve read recently that, overall, singles sales aren’t advancing at *nearly* the pace one would expect, considering how hugely album and hard-copy sales are tanking. That even singles sales and ringtones, which you would expect to be vastly increasing in sales, actually aren’t. … bottom line — that *all* music sales are in a slump, though for singles it just means they aren’t increasing much, while with albums it means they’re actually way dropping ….

Watch Adam Lambert’s ‘Time for Miracles’ music video: http://bit.ly/ZzKji
about 4 hours ago from TweetDeck

Brian Mansfield tweeted this. Has he weighed in officially on TFM? Just curious.

I do not believe that he has, and the only reason I would expect him to is that he runs an Idol blog and typically reviews releases, with the understanding that there will then be debate. He doesn’t have to, of course, and it doesn’t mean he has or hasn’t decided–he originally said that he couldn’t comment based on a 44 second snippet (he was talking about the song, not the video, of course, which wasn’t available at that time)–but I am curious. Has Slezak? Cantiello liked it, dunno about Rickey (don’t care), Lyndsey and Laura Saltman lrurrrved it, and Perez had not dissed it, so that must be a thumbs up for him.

ETA: I tweeted Michael and Brian (just now). Of course…

    Not very much.

Me, I love watching John Cusack’s character scrambling to get his family out of harm’s way — He’s blasting through a building in a limo! He’s dodging fireballs in a plane! — while Adam just casually (well, maybe not casually) walks through the panicked, rubble-filled streets, singing a song, keeping his head while everyone around him is losing theirs.

You know what they say – “Statistics don’t lie, but liars use statistics”. No matter what point you’re trying to prove, someone will find a statistical method to illustrating their own opposing point, and then when you add in all the qualifiers and additional qualitative evidence, you’ve got a real mess on your hands. All I need to know is whether Adam’s song is successful, and for that it’s an unqualified YES!!!!

Last week’s #10 song (John Mayer’s single) sold 100K so it’s possible that Adam will sell that many. Again, I wouldn’t make any predictions until Sunday because the numbers are for a full week. But staying in the top 10 is always a good thing.

  • suebrody

I and a few others have analyzed the film, should you be so inclined to hop on over to the other thread.

On the other hand, we can just decide if we would rather face Adam *raising hand* or John Cusack *back in the 80s but not now* ;)

I Don’t Want to Miss A Thing did well, didn’t it, on the pop charts? I am not a huge Aerosmith fan, except for their 70s music (yes, I’m old), but I seem to think it did. But I don’t care if the single gets airplay–it’s getting sales and it’s getting Adam’s name out there, just in time for his album.

ETA; 80 percent would like to face Adam. ;)

This Top Gun anthem has cracked the Top Ten in less than two days? On what? A rabid fanbase, who compromise the vast majority of the online media audience so that exposure barely counts, and 1 ET clip.

This was no ground-breaking gotta have it now tune. This wasn’t the Real New Adam Single. Those are wonderful sales. Those are the people who will buy anything he does. For whom illegal download play-it-a-little isn’t enough. Fabulous base on which to build.

And they show that the rabid fanbase is solid. The confusion of whether or not it will be on the album could hold back some fans who aren’t quite up to rabid. All 200K of Adam’s Twitter followers haven’t purchased yet if #9 would be around 85-90K. Maybe they don’t want to buy twice or thrice. (Single, video, album.) If his two “singles” are on the album, lots of people may want to wait. Or maybe they’re not buying TFM at all. They may not like it. Know they won’t play it even if they love his voice. Especially in a recession.

Unemployment/consumer spending come into it. Last year, real unemployment was still under 10%. Now, ‘real’ unemployment figures stand closer to 20%.

MySpace allows for multiple voting. It’s highly possible that haters are driving the ratings down intentionally as the approval rating for the first 60k hits or so was well over 90%. (Also, MySpace doesn’t have a 5 star system, just thumbs up or down and no middle ground.)

But then again, I can’t emphasize how badly released this video is in terms of video quality (wrongly converted aspect ratio — I don’t mean the actual videography) that if I weren’t biased I would have given it a negative vote myself…

I thought jpfan mentioned above that singles downloads increased year to year? Also, what about Lipstick Economics’“ in tough times, don’t folks spend more on cheap entertainment like a $1.29 song, and less of luxuries or bigger ticket items?

They probably do unless they’re Amish, don’t use the internetz, are country fans or all of the above.

Adam Lambert Video Shows A Monumental Performer
    http://www.rockstarweekly.com/content/view/1066/149/

RockStar Weekly is excited that the first post-Idol Lambert track and video is a rock track – ballad or not. With Idol performances alongside such rock legends as Queen and KISS, it would have been a shame to hear a pop/dance track first. Judging from the feedback, tweets and interviews, Lambert’s CD , For Your Entertainment which is expected in stores on Nov. 23 via 19 Recordings/RCA/Sony, should be somewhat similar to 1970s Queen albums, which featured a variety of rock, funk and quirky tracks, making for a unique and undeniable sound.

OH yeah I got the link in time to hear The end of the song on a Radio station….Why is it that Canada is not only ahead of us as far as Health care for their citizens but can also play and awesome song on their radio stations regardless of where the artist came from.

By the way at the end of the song the DJ said Like Daughtry, Lambert proves you don’t have to win AI to be successful.

Ha, yes, but these people weren’t downloading before the economic downturn, so their continued lack of downloading won’t cause a decrease in single downloads because of the poor economy.

I may be wrong but it didn’t sound like the song was edited for radio. I think it was the full version.

Sidewalkstory, I think that poster was implying that Archie, too, was an easy target. FWIW, so was David Cook. Every article that ever came out about him was filled with nasty posts.

Positions and sales are really relative week to week. For instance, Archie had a higher chart rank the first week, but David Cook sold more units.

  • dab1234

terraj thanks for the quality download. Works great. I noticed that Brian Mansfield has the Myspace link on his site. That alone will make a difference in how people feel towards the vid. I guess he has to use that link but it is SO BAD. Poor quality makes for a poor first viewing of it.

I think what someone was saying is that Adam doesn’t have as big of an internet fanbase as thought because those fans would/should have driven up TfM to #1 the first day.

  • frogcooke

“Positions and sales are really relative week to week. For instance, Archie had a higher chart rank the first week, but David Cook sold more units.”

actually if you are talking singles(since well this is about a single song)… archie sold more than cook first week.

  • Q3

IndyMuse: Positions and sales are really relative week to week. For instance, Archie had a higher chart rank the first week, but David Cook sold more units.

Being #1 in June or September is not equal to being #1 in November.

Anyway, the RIAA awards are the ones that matter — a chart ranking is nice but Platinum is better. Look at Jordin Sparks!

‘There are three kinds of lies: lies, damn lies, and statistics.’ Thought I knew the source, but it’s not clear to me.

That’s because the source is fuzzy. Believed to have been Disreli or Twain quoting an autobiography of Disreli, it’s (I believe) neither one and instead some random British guy.

Anyhew, yeah, I hope and think, the original plan with Adam’s real single will go forth and it will be a pop elctro thing as well, because that’s what Adam has seemed to indicate will be the case, and would a nice contrast to TfM which is very ’80s rock ballad. Oh and please oh please just remain a bonus on the album. That or a 13th song. Which like a 13th floor in a building, can be ignored or left out.

Poor RockStar Weekly – they’re so counting on hits from AdamRock fans to keep their stats up for their web site, so it’ll be interesting to see their reaction once his “real” single and CD are released. Will they stand by their man and keep his photo next to Chickenhead and Screamaticca, or will they acknowledge that Dirty Adam has been usurped by Glam Adam? Only time will tell, but I wouldn’t rule out the sudden appearance of an “Under construction” banner on their site pending a revamp and relaunch as “GlamStar Weekly: All Adam, All the Time”.

Why is it that Canada is not only ahead of us as far as Health care for their citizens but can also play and awesome song on their radio stations regardless of where the artist came from.

It’s the same reason that they don’t have the same health-care issues that we do. In Canada, the government is allowed to tell big corporations what to do. In the United States, big corporations are allowed to tell the government — and everyone else — what to do.

So big corporations run virtually all U.S. radio and do what they think is in the best interests of them and of other big corporations.

    Canadian radio content rules:

“Canadian broadcasting policy is defined by Section 3 of the Broadcasting Act, which stipulates that:

    * radio frequencies are public property

    * broadcast programming provides a public service essential to national identity and cultural sovereignty

    * the Canadian broadcasting system should provide a wide range of programming that reflects Canadian attitudes, opinions, ideas, values and artistic creativity”

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/Valilac1 VAlilac

It’s amazing that TFM made it to Itunes #10 without any spins. But to sell the number of units needed to climb to #1 against songs that are receiving heavy radio play, wouldn’t TFM also need many spins in addition to internet and TII publicity?

I wonder whether Sony/RCA have a radio promotion plan for TFM, especially now that it will be on the FYE album, or if they are holding off for the pop track instead.

  • Squirrely

Adam Lambert’s ‘Time for Miracles’ video: Spoiler alert! Not everyone dies in ’2012.’
    by Michael Slezak

    http://music-mix.ew.com/2009/10/21/adam-lambert-time-for-miracles-video-2012/

Now, however, without further ado, here are the Top 5 Things That Went Through My Mind While Watching the ‘Time for Miracles’ Video:

    1) Yes! Adam moodily posing on a moodily lit rooftop is an image worthy of repeat viewings.

    2) Adam moodily strolling in front of a green-screen on which images of global destruction/panic-stricken masses fly by? Not quite as much.

I’m gonna respect Slezak’s busy schedule but Michelle Collins review is da best.

Comparing runners up from seasons 7 and 8, David Archuleta’s first single, “Crush,” reached #1 on Itunes in about 15 hours and remained #1 for 7-8 days. Crush went on to sell 1.9M copies, with 1st week numbers reaching 166K. Meanwhile, the debut album sold 183K 1st week out and is currently at around 750K (US) 11 months post release. This is not a competition, mind you, just for comparison/instructional purposes. Make of it what you will.

The album title ‘For Your Entertainment’ is Corporate PC Adam code for ‘Let me bring you to tears with my voice, make you laugh until you cry, dance you into exhaustion, and titillate you to within an inch of your life until your panties go poof! and you collapse into one big pile of steaming drool. You will go happy, deeply and thoroughly satisfied, and with a smile on your face, I promise you that!’

I like your thinking. I agree and someone else said it would also be the perfect tour name – I also agree.
And someone said possible song name FYE – I also agree highly possible.
I also said in a previous thread that with the cover art and title in a cool font the title will go along way to completing the idea behind the choice.

As always we need to trust Adam – he’s been making some great choices – some we may or may not share his vision on at first – but we seem to come around. I just like watching it happen.

When I first heard the title of Adams album, FYE, I wasn’t sure about it. Didn’t hate it, didn’t love it….just on the fence, I guess. But, when I saw Allison’s album cover I got a bit excited. If they do Adam’s like that, with his name in bold letters with For Your Entertainment underneath and smaller, then it works for me. I’m liking it more already.

I’m so excited he’s already made it to #10 on itunes. Go Adam!!!!

And, just my opinion, but I really do think we’ll have a single from his album very soon. He said it would be out in Oct. and I don’t think that’s going to change. I believe what he says. :) He hasn’t let me down yet.

I absolutely love TFM and the video too! Very sexy, dusty (sorry, had to) Adam is yummy! I hope we can buy the video soon. I’m sure it will be better quality when it’s available for purchase.

Also, just heard a bit of the music from Mad World about halfway through General Hospital today. It’s almost over now, so will have to wait and see if I hear Adam sing at the end. Yep, he’s singing now….right at the very end. :) :) Not the whole song, but the very end this time, almost to the glory note!!

“The awesome video for Adam Lambert’s “Time For Miracles” ‘” his hot new jam from the upcoming Roland Emmerich apocalypse comedy 2012 ‘” at last arrived on the Internet today. In it, the American Idol runner-up, hair tousled by falling asteroids, wanders through burning wreckage, past ambulances and panicked survivors, mournfully squealing about a failed relationship. That may seem a little incongruous, but both song and images should together delight any fan of disaster porn. As Movieline points out, though, the video pretty much gives away the movie’s (hugely disappointing!) ending, so proceed with caution.”

Wasn’t sure where to put this, but the above blurb (with the video) is from NY Magazine. Sounds like they like it.

Now its’s 372 for Want and 483 for NOBO

Interesting that even Want is outselling NoBo. :)

I have to admit to being one of those who bought them both, though, (don’t tell anyone!), but I bought them while waiting for TFM and the album single to come out. See what happens when you make me wait!

I did also buy TFM, which I love, and can’t stop listening to. I even had TFM running through my dreams all of last night. Fortunately, none of the disaster scenes in my dreams, though.

I’m happy to see that TFM is now top 10 in ITunes, and still holding at #1 on Amazon! I’ll be interested in seeing how that translates to sales, but since TFM has pulled ahead of John Mayer, I’m hoping that will translate to decent sales.

I’m frustrated to see that LLWD, though, only sold 10,000 this last week, and is at 126 on ITunes, and 244 on Amazon. Kris should be doing better than that…. Maybe some of these upcoming gigs will help out.

I’m also frustrated that we have no idea what is going on with Allison’s single. I bought it during that short period of time that it was available, but what’s up with it disappearing after that?

Hard to figure out what is going on with these releases, but it’s at least exciting to see Adam’s single in the top 10 on ITunes!

Time to buy another 10 copies each, right? J/K (sort of…)

    Anthrogeek – too funny! LOL.

Lindsay Parker, Jim C and Micheal Slezak seem to like everything. Do they ever have anything negative to say. Like I heard six songs and two were just okay. I’d say they were on the 19 payroll but they don’t like everyone. I think they all hate Danny Gokey. I guess that’s still allowed.

At this point, based on the three singles released so far, I’d say all three are overhyping everything.

This is from the EW article:

Co-creator Ryan Murphy tells EW that he’s considering approaching American Idol runner up Adam Lambert about appearing on the show (next year, Glee will be paired with Idol on Wednesday nights). Nothing is official ye,t but Lambert does seem like an ideal choice for Glee.

Don’t know if it’s true or not, but people have said over on TWOP for a while that this woman is the art director for Adam’s album (she certainly is *an* art director for various Sony labels …). And if she would be allowed to do with his album anything near the level of what she’s done for Beyonce’s Live in Vegas cover shown on this page, then things look very promising, to me:

When this rumor first hit way back in May (June?) it seemed to make PERFECT sense! Fox is all about the cross-promotion with it’s artists, talent, shows, what have you. Having Adam appear on Glee (given his background, Fox connection, etc) seems like a natural fit.

I SOOO hope this happens :-) Please please!

Haha. I don’t know about Jim, but Slezak and Lyndsey Parker both gave Light On negative reviews. Then again, from what I recall most bloggers gave LO negative reviews, so they weren’t giving giving against-the-grain reviews then either. But yeah, this year, seems like they love everything from Kradison.

  • BeckyMD

    yay #9~~~yay Adam at Glee~~~

Yes, people, sad to say that five months after the season 8 finale, Polly Slezak has not yet managed to perfect the ‘Glambert eye’ she became so obsessed with between February and May of 2009.

Polly needs to get herself some MAC Kohl eyeliner in Smoulder.

See? My pop. bars watch is giving results! I can see it 2 mins earlier lol

Adam in Glee would be so perfect!

Lindsay Parker, Jim C and Micheal Slezak seem to like everything. Do they ever have anything negative to say. Like I heard six songs and two was just okay. I’d say they were on the payroll but they don’t like everyone. I think they all hate Danny Gokey. I guess that’s still allowed.

Lyndsay destroyed Light On, so maybe age came suddenly and made her warmer or she just likes it. Jim C. and Slezak love everything Kris does (and Allison), not so much Adam. They are being nice now because they have to (YMMV, but thats how I see), because during the show they definitely didnt like everything. I will only believe after they comment on the albums, though.

PS on my pop. bar watch: TFM is very close to the 8th place Papparazzi, so if it keeps selling in will reach #8 soon

Though I can’t really complain, since she’s got song scoopage, and is willing to spill (some) deets!

ITA this is what I now believe. But I must admit that the first thing I thought of when I heard Adam’s album title, ‘For Your Entertainment’ , was this ‘Let Me Entertain You’ :

Like you, I thought of the Gypsy Rose Lee refrain, but then considered the song “Let Me Entertain You” by Queen

“Let me welcome you ladies and gentlemen
I would like to say hello
Are you ready for some entertainment?
Are you ready for a show?
    Gonna rock gonna roll you
Get you dancing in the aisles
    Jazz and a razzmatazz you
With a little bit of style
    Cmon let me entertain you
Let me entertain you let me entertain you

Ive come here to sell you my body
I can show you some good merchandise
Ill pull you and pill you
    Ill crueladeville you
And to thrill you Ill use any device”

The best thing about that Glee blurb is that ‘” as a new show ‘” there is no history regarding whether it’s traditional for the winner or the runner up to get that gig.

Runner-ups seem to get more of the “acting gigs” during the album release season. Kat was on “Ugly Betty” and Archie was on “Hannah Montana”. Even original-flavour runner-up Justin was offered a spot on “Friends” (but 19E made him turn it down because he wasn’t the winner…back in the old days).

I think that the first 13 episodes of “Glee” are in the can, though (certainly, the actors have talked about filming that episode a while ago). They got picked up for the back 9 and are filming them now. So, if anybody gets cast in the show it won’t be seen until the spring.

CindyM….Yes, I was the one who posted that Mad World was used again today on GH. Same as the last time, a bit of the music about halfway through and then Adam’s singing at the end. Not the whole song, just part of it. He almost made it to the glory note today. :)

WOW!! #9!! Go Adam! This is so much fun!!!!

  • Squirrely

I love Rolling Stone – I seriously do.

  • Ceddies

Squirrely, and World Domination it shall be. Only Adam has the necessary tools to pull this off–the talent, charisma, drive, and all that we are already aware of. He has the gonads to make it happen. He has a vulnerability but also has a toughness about him–not to mention he is smart, experienced, and has already spent time abroad. Plus we know that he already has a fanbase across the world, and he will expand that shortly.

I’ve been lurking for the past couple of weeks and am so excited about “everything Adam”. I just returned from Nashville for a three-day weekend and left my laptop at home. I almost had to get Ativan from my mom to take care of my anxiety over missing Adam. Had lots of good news awaiting when I returned. Way to go, Adam!!!!

  • http://www.rockstarweekly.com rockstarweekly

    Hi mjsbigblogers,

I’d like to add that a majority of Adam Lambert’s fans have embraced our coverage at RockStar Weekly, judging by the emails we receive and the numerous entries in our top fans contest. I’d also like to give props to mjsbigblog for the amazing Idol coverage they do.

I wanted to throw my 2 cents into this conversation, because I read a post that basically said we at RockStar Weekly would close up shop because Adam Lambert’s next song won’t be a rock track. To that poster, I’d like to say thanks for the support. With fans chopping down the media that is giving Adam positive coverage is really not a benefit to Adam or his career.

We are a rock magazine, yes, and we will always be a rock magazine. We cover all types of rock, from the heavy guys like Slayer to the more mainstream acts like Queen and KISS. Both Queen and KISS were glam in the 70s and 80s, so Adam is not much different for us as you may think. Have you even listened to an entire Queen album? At times Queen is as far from “rock” as possible? Another One Bites The Dust – not really something that sounds much like Hell Awaits from Slayer, but still considered rock. We just interviewed Foreigner and Trooper – these bands have nothing in common with Slayer either. So if you think we’re only about extreme metal, boy are you missing the mark.

We chose to cover Adam when the American Idol tour came to Vancouver (our home city) and we’ve been supportive the entire time. Will we give as much coverage to a non-rock track on the CD? – obviously not, as it won’t fit our format, but once the album is out, Adam will be considered the same as all the artists that we cover – if it’s newsworthy it will make the news, if it’s just rumblings about the new track he’s doing with Lady Gaga, you probably won’t hear it from us, and we’ll just wait for tour announcements and actual news. In fact, we passed on the Lady Gaga angle. We have been excited because we knew the first track was going to be Time For Miracles, which sounds a hell of a lot like something Queen would have recorded.

My hopes are that some of the Adam Lambert fans will take the time to browse our site and look at some bands and artists that they may have otherwise not have. The world of music is pretty vast, and by pigeonholing a singer as capable as Adam as just glam is probably not what Adam would want. Adam is glam, pop, dance, theatre and rock all rolled up into one unique artist.

The first song that was released is a killer rock ballad, so embrace the idea that maybe he likes to rock a bit too. Whole Lotta Love answers that question quite easily.

I invite everyone to download a free song from a new band from Los Angeles called Nero Zero. The rock track is a cover of the old Rick James dance song Super Freak. Just go to our site and click on the Nero story on the front page for the link to the free download. Like Adam, Nero Zero have taken rock to a different place. The first single from their album was written with Latoya Jackson and the free download is a cover of a funk classic.

    Peace Out!
    Dan

NINE! YESSSS! Halfie owes me dinner–delayed nine–and he has agreed if we can meet up and I don’t tweet. I said this could not be guaranteed. ;)

BTW, Slezak’s review was pretty good (liked Adam, said mom would have preferred more guyliner, LOL). Lindsay and Laura love everything Adam does, and Slezak and Cantiello love everything that Allison and Kris do. And ultimately, I think Slezak carries more weight, b/c more ppl read EW.com and get EW than watch stuff on MTV.com (IMO). And no word from Mansfield, but who cares at this point, honestly.

    Anyway…kudos to Adam.

Or maybe those runner ups were more appropriate to act than the winners. Dont know about justin, but Kat had experience in theather and archie was a teenager that would fit that show. This difference between the finalists was never as obvious as it is now, with adam being a professional actor and kris having no intention to act (I think he said it at some point, didnt he?)

    Cool post, Dan.

But I don’t think that the original poster meant that Rockstar Weekly would *literally* have to close up shop. Just that it might be interesting to see how you cover Adam if his next single is not glam in the Queen/KISS sense — but more in the glam-pop sense.

    Peace Back!

Dan, I am giving you a round of applause. I come from listenig to Queen’s “Let Me Entertain You” to finding your post. Adam lives in the tradition of Queen, Bowie and many other glam rock legends. If he also produces something in the electro-pop vein it will not be because he has turned his back on anything, he’s just staying true to his multi-faceted self.

    Woohoo RockStarWeekly!!

  • suebrody

Thanks, Dan. Adam can sing most genres–I am sure rock will be included (maybe even a straight-ahead rock song, not glam-rock, electro, etc.). We hope you’ll continue to cover him.

God, RS loves them some Adam, and we loves them back. If it weren’t justified, I would laugh and write them off, but it is, so I won’t.

I hope anyone who doesn’t love (or even like) the song and/or video gives either or both another chance. At first, I thojught TfM was hokey, but it really grew on me after several listens (just as NoBo did). He can sing the heck out of anything, and I think he took a song that, without knowing the background of the co-writers, could be perceived as lightweight and made it meaningful. Listen to the subtlety of his voice, how it ebbs and flows. I find the same with the video. He is OTT? I don’t think so. I think his expressions fit the song nicely (plus, seriously, isn’t that the director’s job?). And he looks hot. So, anyway, much love to Adam. This is just the beginning. (I want him to star in a movie as well, but maybe not a blockbuster; something more quirky would be fine. Paging indie directors…choose Adam.)

Dan, I’m the one who posted earlier about RockStar Weekly, and I can assure you, it was meant as a JOKE! Adam fans are fully aware of the freakish versatility and vocal virtuosity exhibited by Adam thoughout his pre- and post-Idol career, and we couldn’t agree with you more, and we LOVE you for your devotion to Adam and his (multiple) causes!! Keep up the great work!!!! Most of us probably never heard of your publication until Adam started making regular appearances, and I, for one, will be sure to check out the new artist with the Rick James cover you mentioned, as ol’ skool funk is my favorite genre, and it’s as fascinating to see it covered by new rock acts as it is to see what Adam has in store for us next. So, yes, even Adam’s fans cannot be pigeonholed into one genre. Rock ON, RockStar Weekly!!

  • Kirsten

And, please provide examples of Rolling Stone posting negative stuff about Adam.

  • suebrody

I have yet to hear RS criticize Adam, in fairness…but honestly, if people make their judgments based on Slezak or Cantiello, well…

I love Super Freak. Awesome cover! (Rick James is DA MAN, as Adam would say, if he were to say that about Rick James. I don’t know if he would, but I bet his dad would.)

  • koshka

Hmmmmm RockStar Weekly swinging by to say ‘Hi’. Didn’t know this was such a popular or well known hang out. Maybe I’ll have to watch what I say…. Nah!

  • BestAI

    Dan,

You probably already know that the Adam fans really do appreciate your support for Adam. You probably also know that his fans love his incredible vocals whether he sings a rock or soft ballad. What you may not know is that Adam’s fans are first to discover Adam articles and music, including articles in Rockstar Weekly. What you also may not know is his fans can be very snarky. Sometimes you have to take us with a grain of salt.

And then there are some who just don’t like Adam, so you can take it from there.

Once again, thanks for your support and coverage of Adam.

  • rattleandhum

Seriously, did anybody expect anything less? They are as fangirly as Slezak, Jim and Lindsey. At least those three sometimes criticize their favourite.

which is interesting because I don’t think I’ve ever seen them fangirl over someone from Idol before. I disagree that Slexak and Jim have ever criticized Kris nor has Lindsey ever, as far as I know criticized Adam. They are all pretty flaily most of the time.

Read Slezak’s recaps throughout the season. He will call out his fav’s. Jim is kidding a bit with this OTT crap. Kind of like the Vulture with Archie. Sure, he likes Kris, but he will say negative things about him. Seriously.

I never took Jim’s OTT flailing of Kris as a joke, honestly. I always assumed he had a man crush on him *shrug* I will agree that on the show, Slezak would call his favorites to task, albeit lovingly, if they did something he did not like. And I’ve found Slezak to actually be pretty even handed with Kradison in general. Jim C? not so much. He never speaks, as far as I know, about Allison, he always flails over Kris and he offers tepid or back handed compliments to Adam.

And, please provide examples of Rolling Stone posting negative stuff about Adam.

I don’t think they need to be negative to prove their objectivity. Perhaps they just think Adam is a phenomenal singer? It’s Rolling Stone, they don’t need Adam to get hits or generate traffic on their site. Unlike the other three, who honestly, aren’t really taken seriously, IMO, as music critics, RS is a reputable music magazine which has a long and established history. There is no hidden agenda in their praise ofAdam. I think he makes them genuinely excited because he’s a throw back to the days of yore but also very current and modern. Not to mention his fierce attitude, which is totally rock and roll.

He will call out his fav’s. Jim is kidding a bit with this OTT crap. Kind of like the Vulture with Archie. Sure, he likes Kris, but not that much. Seriously.

I agree. I think Jim is VERY tongue in cheek with a lot of his fanboy squeeing.

And seriously Kirsten, you just cracked my sh*t up with that street team post.

Honestly, I’m willing to give Rolling Stone a break on their flailing too. I think the musical landscape has been a wee bit boring for the past couple of years, and those guys are just grasping for anything remotely interesting. I suppose Adam should take it as a compliment that he’s currently the object of their affection. But honestly, I think some of this is just so they don’t have to write another article about the Jonas Brothers or Miley.

  • beehiway

Dan, Love your site. Would not have known about it if not for the features on Adam Lambert. RocksStarWeekly now ranks high on my list of go to places to for up-to-date info. I really dig the Lambert fan competition you are running. I spent some time trying to figure out an angle for myself so that I could enter but alas I am just a flailing fangirl.

  • https://twitter.com/draddee Sunn

Welcome rockstarweekly (Dan) and thank you so much for your support of Adam, I for one appreciate it greatly.

Please don’t take the comments made here to heart, as they are most likely said with tongue firmly embedded in cheek. We’re a snarky bunch here at mj’s.

You are absolutely correct in saying that Adam can not be boxed into a genre. His musical style does span the spectrum, and why should it not? When one is blessed with a voice that can sing anything, one would be a fool not take advantage of it. That said, I do believe Adam’s rock side is organic to his musical character, and will continue to be a part of who he is as a singer. In that way, I have no worries regarding my hope to continue seeing Adam’s name on your site pages.

Speaking for myself, I have always taken the time to peruse your magazine
when I visit your site, and will continue to do so whenever I’m there.

Thank you for the free download offer. I shall certainly make use of it.

  • koshka

My question would be, does RS have a dedicated body to cover AI? To me there is a vested interest for Slezak, Jim & Lindsey (?) to be dramatic, OTT and pick sides.

  • suebrody

beehiway, to confusing. I will use my iPhone and my computer and you guys to determine how Adam is doing (well to continue to see how well he is doing). Note: John Mayer fell to #11. ;) (I like him, but I can’t say I’m crying about this.)

I have been doing a fine job of not squeeing today. I will resume squeeing activities tomorrow. Flailing is still in progress. It’s just tiring, so I try to reserve my energy. When TfM gets to #8, I promise to flail.

Oh, I love the Adam Storm, I really do…and my Twitter avatar does, too.

*back to watch video for 10th time or so today*

ETA: Sunn is snarky all the time. Well, most of the time. Just so you know. ;) (Snarky but smart as hell.)

  • Kirsten

Wow, Jim C comes to this site and we’re supposed to hold his opinion with reverance

LOL. Jim gets revered here? I must be reading the wrong threads. Or is “fangirly” a compliment?

As far as I know, Jim has never posted here that we are being bad fans for posting negative things about Kris/Allison or the media that loves them. He has never told us that we are hurting their careers. He welcomes a lively debate, even if he loves being a fangirly goof himself.

I’m sure Lea Michele has been begging for Adam on Glee. She was fangirling about him on the Rachel Ray show today, that she’d love to sing with him.

I heard her say in a past interview that she had met Adam before – they auditioned in the same circles in LA for musical theater.

I would love to have a duet from them also – just another way for Adam to chart a song – and the Glee audience seem to love OTT – I know I do.

I vote yes if anyone is counting ‘Yes to Adam on Glee’ votes.

If it happens I can’t wait to see the ratings for that show…

I don’t follow any of them, except for links provided by this site and I am also not the one who stated the original statement which I asked you to clarify, which you did and I’ll take you at your word that indeed Slezak has criticized his favorite and I’m not sure how you know that Jim is just playing at OTT, but being a newbie to this I’ll assume you have some insider’s knowledge. So thanks for answering my question.

PS on my pop. bar watch: TFM is very close to the 8th place Papparazzi, so if it keeps selling in will reach #8 soon

    Don’t upgrade your iTunes.

I can’t go back to version 8 to get the popularity bars without losing my ratings for all 7800 songs in my iTunes library. That would suck.

  • Kirsten

Why do they have to. If they have something negative to say, I’m sure they would. Maybe they just don’t, right now.

Maybe Jim, Slezak and Lyndsey are happy with what they’ve heard so far. If RollingStone isn’t fangirly, why assume the others are? I think they are all being fangirly, so I don’t think I’m being inconsistent.

  • suebrody

I just suck at this stuff, beehiway, but thanks. :)

Sometimes I just get so sick of this guy is fangirly over him but wait, she is much more fangirly over HER…I don’t understand. Who cares, ultimately? Don’t the purveyors of music get to make the choice? I am not going to buy an album b/c Jim, etal recommended I do so. I would suggest that RS wields more power, if you will, b/c they have a greater readership, but AGAIN, it depends on the buyer. I hate the JoBros (not personally, just their music; they seem like good guys). They were on the cover of RS, and the story was somewhat interesting, and I am still not going to buy their music (sorry, JoBros, but you hardly need me, and the same goes for Demi, Miley, and their ilk). I think you might be inclined to *listen* to a track based on a review, but I think about this the same way I do a book, theater, or movie review. It might spur my interest, or not, but I oftentimes go to the theater, see a play, think it was awful, say, and then read this glowing review and think, damn, glad I didn’t go based on x’s opinion (or vice versa).

    It’s all subjective.

Why do I feel like I’m in the midst of writing a Thesis today? ;)

Question here’ ¦ do the songs in the top ten usually go down one number at at time or could number 7 drop to number 11 all at once?

The top 10 tends to be quite stable and the moves are normally 1 at a time. On new music Tuesday, though, you can see bigger shifts if there are lots of new songs hitting (or if a big album is released…or when the Idol songs become unblocked).

  • Kirsten

btw Kirsten, what did you mean by they un-block idol songs?

During the season, for fairness, iTunes blocks current Idols from appearing on the iTunes charts. After the finale, they unblock that and we can suddenly see how well they are doing. That can cause a lot of artists to take sharp drops as there are a lot of new songs with sales history entering the charts.

  • beehiway

LOL. I agree. Nothing wrong with be fangirly, but it’s fun to tweak them once in a while.

But I do dial it back here because not everyone can see my smirk and wink over the internet. And sometimes people think I am being serious. And I forget to type the smiley or wink or whatever. Kris has Slezak and JimC on his side and Adam has Rolling Stone, Details Magazine, RockStar Weekly and Lyndsey Parker on his side… (don’t know how many more). This man is different – and not just in his sexual proclivities. Like many great artists (in other fields as well) he’s polarizing. And, as another said, he has the confidence of the insanely talented. Blessed with physical beauty and grace, the fact of his also owning a voice of exceptional power is something very new in today’s music scene. And there’s not another singer today who could do equal justice to this difficult song. Anyone who loves great singing realizes how fortunate we are to have him. (His performance of this video in the theater, even if somehow truncated to support the film, will be incredible.) Reminds me of the review of his performance (in LA?) (paraphrased) that a dozen Madonnas kissing a dozen Britney’s outside the venue would not persuade anyone to leave their seats. Different? Definitely.

“ppl” don’t. ppl can say anything they like and they can say it for any reason.

But these people are professional critics/reviewers/columnists, and the hope is that someone who “reviews” music does so objectively, and with a fresh ear each new time around.
IMO Slezak, Cantiello, Parker, Collins- all of them have let their baggage build up to a point that they are blinded. They seem unable to separate their inner fanboy/girl from their professional opinion in the best case scenario, and are agenda driven in the worst.

That makes them a blogger type writer IMO, and worthy of less consideration in many regards. I lose respect.

I don’t disagree with you, however, the question is, were they ever anything more than paid bloggers to begin with? I don’t think any of them are actual music critics. They are pop culture bloggers IMO and as such their personal tastes and bias comes into play and when reading their reviews that should be taken into account.

Rolling Stone on the other hand, IS a serious music entity and as far as I know, it’s not the same person writing about Lambert every time although I admit I don’t pay close attention to the byline.

I’m still looking for the criticism from Jim and Slezak.
(No one made the same claim about RS.) I want to see something after the final that has been negative.
If Rolling Stone only gives positive write ups because thet are fangirly, then the same has to be said about Slezak and Jim. Do Jim and Slezak give Kris positive media because they think he’s cute or is it because they sincerely think he is a gifted artist and appreciate his music?

    Great review!!!!!

    Damn I love this review!!!

James Montgomery’s – the MTV Rock and Music Vid editor – and Jim C’s take on the vid and song:

1- Adam’s voice is better that stephen Tyler’s

2- He should off some good range and acting chops , it’s impressive

3- The song is a better rock ballad than “I won’t miss a thing”. It sticks in the head more.

    3- It’s a better ballad than Rihanna’s new single (also a ballad)

4- The song could be rocking VH1′s top 20 for months and months

5-People will see Adam and say “WOW! This Guy is impressive”

    .

This is a definitely SQUEE worthy review.

So if you’ll all excuse me … SQUEEEEEEEEE

    Great review!!!!!

I was thinking of James Montgomery, of the James Montgomery Band, but I guess not. ;)

I like what he had to say and I completely agree (and I know not everyone does). I think the video works on a number of levels, not just b/c Adam has the most glorious voice of all-time. Okay, well, a little hyperbole never hurt anyone. ;) It’s nice to see that it’s from an MTV music editor–no fangirling/guying at all. Sometimes it’s refreshing to read something that’s objective and complementary about a favorite artist. That said, if he hadn’t liked the video, I still would. But maybe he’ll have a few more people checking it out, which is what *objective* reviewers do.

This myspace situation is sort of absurd…

Can you imagine if TFM is getting all this love and sales what Adam’s first dance/elec single will get. I don’t think we’ve seen OTT reviews and fangirly statements that will come close to what we’ll hear when that happens.
If the reaction to TFM is moderate, kind even because we keep hearing it is better w/video – good song for a disaster film – Adams sings it quite well, can you imagine the reaction to a real Adam single!

    @rockstarweekly
The world of music is pretty vast, and by pigeonholing a singer as capable as Adam as just glam is probably not what Adam would want. Adam is glam, pop, dance, theatre and rock all rolled up into one unique artist.

Thanks for your comments. There are many of us that would love to get a little pure rock from Adam but we are expecting something more outer space glam. One thing we have learned, nobody puts Adam in a box. LOL (Big Queen fan here, thought TfM was a bit Queenesque and would love to have more of that from Adam. Not expecting it this time around though.

Dan, we have a group of posters/commenters that could qualify as having mensa level intellisnark. Most of us know and love the dry wit; we recognize it for what it is and ROFL while reading. The poster you commented on was one of our best and most beloved and I believe what she said was most definitely tongue-in-cheek. It’s all good.

I’m in love with Miracles. I started out meh on the song, but loving Adam’s vocals and meh on the vid. Went to loving the song except for the middle because it’s waaay to long and I’d get bored and walk away until I’d start to hear the crescendo at which point I’d come back in the room. And then I was meh on the vid because of quality and the building top pieces. But I love the shortened version of the song in the vid so I played and watched it a few times and each time found myself riveted watching Adam do his thang. I’m now officially a fan of both the vid and the song as it appears on the vid. Guess I’ll be buying it when it comes out so I can get the shortened version of the song.

I love this song and I love the video. Adam is fantastic in it. I also don’t care what David Cook and David Archuletta did on Itunes last year. Adam is not competing against them. He is a totally different kind of artist then either of them. All I know, is that Adam’s fans got this song and video to number 9 on Itunes, number 1 on Amazon and charts all around the world. Even a few radio stations (in Canada yeah) are playing the song. I am proud of us. I am sure that Adam is estatic. I refuse to fall into the negativity. I know that Adam will be a star. He is too charismatic to not be one. So instead of listening to the naysayers I hope all of Adam’s fans do the same thing as I am going to do. I am going to give myself a pat on the back :) and tomorrow which is another day, concentrate on moving this wonderful song up another notch on Itunes.

  • 4Msrmyn

Dead doesn’t seem to matter. Jackie Wilson is #1 and he’s been gone since 1984. If I’ve got the right singer, he was in a coma for 8 years before he passed. I’ve spent way too much time visiting the DDD boys while waiting for new Adam goodies. Freddie Mercury of Queen who died of aids.

  • FifthHouseSun

Also, what about Lipstick Economics’“ in tough times, don’t folks spend more on cheap entertainment like a $1.29 song, and less of luxuries or bigger ticket items?

Yes, when “cutting back” people do treat themselves with little “luxuries.” But not when they’re unemployed or their house just got foreclosed. Then they “treat” themselves to food and shelter. 20% real unemployment is devastating. It’s grim out there. 20% of the population basically can’t purchase beyond the basics. And too many of them can’t even afford that.

People who can, allocate their little treat for whatever they like most. Could be chocolate. Or organic fruit. Doesn’t have to be music. And even if music involved, it still saves for every artist whose album you might buy to wait. Not buy the video, not buy the single, just wait a month and check out the album. It’s the holidays. You might make the album your not so expensive recession holiday gift request.

That’s why it’s so encouraging to see so many people have Adam Lambert as a priority. Either they can afford it, or he’s worth the “treat”.

  • rattleandhum

Ah, the old poll-spam game. Someone should check to see what the Claymates have been up to. No one spams a poll better than they do.

Adam isn’t even from Clay’s season, why would they care about his video?

You know, or maybe you don’t know, regarding his astrological chart, he has about 4 placements in the sign of Libra. Some Librans have been known to have a really hard time making important decisions at times, wanting to constantly weigh things back and forth.

  • weareallinnocent

Not to be the negative voice, but depending on what the first single turns out to be and when it is debuted, TfM may actually have a better initial reaction and showing. (Blasphemy!) My theory has more to do with what a few others have pointed out here, which is that Adam’s personal style is to push boundaries and be creative. Those efforts don’t always result in universal (commercial) appeal, much less appreciation. A “classic” rock, feel good ballad nearly always does, because it’s, er, classic and, uh, makes you feel good… and it’s safe… The timing bothers me a tad too, in a market saturation sort of way. Personally, I can’t get enough, but I’m pretty sure I’m not representative of the masses, generally speaking.

These concerns merely represent my thoughts, not my feelings. I “feel” that Adam’s music will be fantastic and widely well-received. Whether folks will immediately embrace a “new sound” is yet to be seen, but I do believe he will be warmly embraced at some point.

Right now, I’m just thrilled with the storm, that TfM is seeing some initial commercial success, and the video (not to mention Adam) has been well-received (by what we’ve heard from the industry) so far.

They have Jackie Wilson?! as #1′ ¦.Did they give a reason for this?!

Oh yeah, the debate goes on for more than a hundred pages and it is DETAILED. They break every singer down by about eight or 10 aspects of “technique” (as that is what they are analyzing on that list) and then they do side by side comparisons of the artists ‘“ linking to specific YouTube performances to illustrate their point. They even break down exactly what notes were hit and how long they were held.

    It is a fascinating read.

  • 4Msrmyn

Fast answer has to do with things like pitch, breathe control, improvisation, live performances, range, etc. They spend weeks, even months arguing. You can’t just declare someone best you have to prove it. Sometimes they take it note by note. Freddie seemed have problems with live performances. Adam doesn’t have that problem. I’m no expert and this is over simplified.

The DDD boys call Jackie Wilson “Mr. Excitement” and are crazy about his live performances. Yes, he has incredible range and great albums. They have 22 pages devoted to him.

  • Bowie1

Thanks Susan M. and 4Msrmyn for the information. I didn’t realize it was that INVOLVED!! I’ll have to go visit the website.

I just remember Jackie Wilson from the Motown era but not having the powerful voice of a Freddie or Adam.

Thanks Mainegal, also. I can’t post as quick as all of you and saw your post after I posted!

  • Studio57

Adam isn’t even from Clay’s season, why would they care about his video?

If you even doubt it, go take a look at this. Make sure you read the comments- they have a HUGE grudge against Adam- they are NUTS! As soon as I read here that someone was spamming the poll I thought of them:

Yes, when ‘cutting back’ people do treat themselves with little ‘luxuries.’ But not when they’re unemployed or their house just got foreclosed. Then they ‘treat’ themselves to food and shelter. 20% real unemployment is devastating. It’s grim out there. 20% of the population basically can’t purchase beyond the basics. And too many of them can’t even afford that.

So sadly true, FifthHouseSun. And I’m sure one of the first things to go is internet access, which is not in the basic food groups for the unemployed.

The Advocate has chimed in on the TFM video. I’m bolding a quote because it could be the reason TFM has been included on Adam’s record as a bonus track.

Lambert hits the high notes with gusto and wails as bridges and buildings crumble and cars explode behind him. The song, according to industry analysts, is a strong contender for a Best Original Song nomination at next year’s Academy Awards.

  • 4Msrmyn

In fairness, Adam’s thread is 40 pages long. However, that started out as “Small Topics”. In February they discovered Adam. They spent so much time arguing over him they changed the name to “Small Topics/Adam Lambert”. Just because he’s #2 doesn’t mean they all even like him. The DDD boys seem to be extraordinarily fair.

I’ve upgraded to I-Tunes 9 and I can’t get popularity bars for the top songs. As someone else has said, the View Options are grayed out and not available. (And it doesn’t work to try to click on a song in the list.) If you pull up someone’s albums, then the bars are there for the individual songs in the album. :)

Maybe I’m missing an update to my program. I’ll check.

Lindsay Parker review posted in the headlines thread.

  • oceanarose

Wow, Lyndsey sure loved the songs she heard. And I guess we know where the album title came from now. These songs sound great. Wonder if the 4th song she couldn’t write about yet will be his first single. Can’t wait to hear them too!

And LOL at her Adam Lambert + Justin Hawkins rant.

  • sidewalkstory

Holy freakin’ shiz, batman. Lyndsey’s review of those three songs has my fingers trembling so much I can barely type out this comment. THIS is the Adam Lambert I want to hear. As much as I love Time for Miracles, I want the Glam Baby. Bring it!!

Oh my gosh, Studio! I heard rumors there was a blog out there with a name that sounds too close to this one. Those people enjoy a good glass of HaterAde with their Delusion Sandwich, don’t they? So, they build up Clay by tearing down everyone else? Is that about right? I wonder if people have ever confused that blog with the REAL MJ’s, because yikes!

And, um.. yeah. After reading those awful comments, they do sound fired up and ready to spam. Oh well. *sigh*

Just as I was beginning to relax and just enjoy the buzz, Lindsey Parker comes along and amps up the anticipation. I want the album NOW!!!!!!!! I want to hear this “Music Again”. I will risk having brain matter spewed across the room.

I guess we were just in the eye of the Adam storm. Part two is whirling away and here it comes. Hunker down.

OMG that Lyndsey Parker preview…!!!!! :-) Now, I know she’s a fan, but OMG, that is excited writing there. LOL

OK, maybe I’ll dial back my concerned thinking a notch now that someone with a base of musical knowledge has previewed some tracks. Even if she is a fan. Wow, just wow. I hope it lives up to the preview, for me… I hate getting my hopes up…

Who’s kidding who, I’m EXCITED for an album debut!!!

Let me know what your favorite flavors are and I’ll keep them on hand. ;-)

ETA: Oh and Alison, I’m getting the feeling I should have been around to hand you a green apple lolly last night (?) when you were apparently inducing some angst! [laugh] Do I have to find your old sit-in-the-corner-time-out chair from the tour as well??

Unfortunately, I missed the fun. Sick toddlers need Mommy even more than Mommy needs Adam news!! However, now that small children are in their cribs I get to catch up. This is going to be fun. Yay, Adam cracked the Top 10!!

  • adamisthemanfan

myspace says it is ‘looking into’ the ratings situation and why it fell from 90pc to 30ish very quickly.

That is easy to surmise. It has attracted every Adam hater and troll that surf the internet. I’m not sure why that is so surprising.

LMFAO….too funny..gonna go look up who Jackie Wilson is

  • lorismile

Just got home from work. So excited to see Adam’s name on my ITUNES homepage chart!!!

Regarding the ratings from the myspace video and bashing….this is why some non-Idol watchers make fun of, and refuse to acknowledge the show exists (raises hand, that was me before Adam)…too many crazies, viewers turning a singing contest into a popularity contest, and people building up the contestants as the next great thing only to dump them when a new season starts (which leaves the non-Idol bubble snickering with “I told you so”). While I think Adam IS the next great thing, I wouldn’t turn to cutting down other contestants to try to build him up. If Adam does turn out to be a superstar, then if anything, he gives Idol credibility that maybe it didn’t have before. (JMO) I just know that no matter what the future holds, to quote Paula, I will be a fan for life.

I don’t care if Archie sold more in day one, first week, ever. I don’t care that Clay has some fanatical fans. I just thank God Adam tried out. Me thanking Idol, who would’ve thunk it? All I know is we have new Adam music and a new Adam video!!!!!!!!!! YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

HSM, the Advocate is a legitimate media source. It’s a primarily gay/lesbian oriented publication. I think you’re thinking of Associated Content, maybe??

I wonder why she got to hear 7 songs from Kris but only 3 for Adam? But still, Im excited of her description. So far its everything I wished Adams album would sound like.

Even if you give a discount on what Lindsay said, we still have good songs ahead of us.

I was just going to post to HSM that the Advocate is a well-known GLBT print publication, with an online presence as well. I see CindyM has beaten me to it! Yes, HSM might be thinking of Associated Content. The Advocate has been around a long time and is quite reputable.
