Tim Urban releases his debut EP Heart of Me to iTunes on Monday Nov. 8, but NeonLimelight.com has the lead single streaming for your listening pleasure.

WOW. The song is super Hot AC friendly. I can hear this on the radio.  It brings that sentimental, HAC favorite band, Plain White T’s to mind. What do you think?

“I wrote ‘Heart of Me’ while I was on tour,” Tim tells Neon Limelight, “I was in my hotel room and all I could think about was home and my family. It hit me that while I was out traveling the country doing what I love, a big part of my heart was back home with them.”

Beginning Monday, Tim will release one track a day to iTunes to purchase. Check out the tracklist after the jump.

    Do indies use autotune? He sounds better vocally to me in this than he did on the show (which wasn’t atrocious, but usually not all that good IMO, and definitely kinda a lightweight sound).

    I thought it was decent. The verses need some work, but I liked the chorus. Tim sounds pretty good. With a bit of polish, it would do OK on the Hot AC charts. A solid first effort, especially when you consider Tim doesn’t have major label support.

    Yeah, this song just kind of kept going and going. Good for him, though. You gotta strike fast to have even a slight chance of making it in this business.

    hmm i think i would like to hear this song from someone with more conviction in his voice. his voice just doesn’t do it for me. having said that, the song is pretty. ;-)

    I listened to both tracks posted on AINow, “Heart of Me” & “I and You”. They both sound exactly the same as far as the tempo, vibe and way too mellow. What happened to fun Tim slidding across the stage floor? I hope he has at least one uptempo track. Also Tim, neither Kris nor David A. have any incentive to colaborate with you unless you throw some money their way. They are nice guys but this is a business.

    MUCH better than I expected writing-wise.Remember-Lee,Crystal,Alex,and Casey have the benefit of some big-name co-writers,and lots of them.So,this is admirable.But,I think its too sleepy,in style to receive airplay,but,he’s not signed,so….What about Aaron Kelly?-I hear he’s writing extensively in Nashville-he’s a VERY talented live performer-hope a label will pick him up.Likely,Capitol Records Nashville,or Warner’s would be his only shot-as 19 has not helped him,at all,for an eventual signing-so UMG Nashville is out,so we’ll see…

    I like Tim, he’s cute and sounds okay, but I agree with the above poster, sounds too sleepy to me. Also like jabee (great minds think alike!) I am very anxious to see what Aaron Kelly is up to. I’m not a country fan in general but I do like some of it and am hoping to see more of Aaron in the future.

    Most of commenters are not that impressed. What’s going on? I know what it is. The biased image about Tim, lower top 10 finisher without real recognition about his vocal talent, blinds the listeners.

    Hey you know…it’s not bad. Yeah as some people have pointed out it’s definitely not anything ground-breaking but what sort of resources does he have to work with anyways? The lyrics are about par for the course in terms of what I’ve heard, the melodies could be a bit more interesting, but all in all it’s not a bad effort at all.

    I honestly have always liked Tim’s voice itself – it’s very “clear” even if it’s not flashy.

    It’s okay. I know this may sound silly to some, but imo Tim enunciates too much – like “ci-ttty” and “isn’ttt”. It just sounds formal and a little theatrical to me. Not normal-speak.

    I understand what you’re saying and I hear it – thing is with some singers it’s difficult to understand anything! Lol.

    Maybe he’ll be able to make something of his run on AI – he’s certainly not hurting himself any with this IMO.

    Meh. Not horrible, not fantastic. The pace of the tune just seems way too slow/dreary.

    The cover is a win though!

    My problem is the low-budget production. I might like it better if it was an acoustic version. The song is way too sleepy as well.

    I really like this kid so I hope he has some luck with this. It’s just not for me.

    He’s actually been writing with some pretty great people too. The last he’s updated on twitter was that he has started recording. I hope we hear a single from him soon though :)

    I feel about this pretty much the way I feel about Susan Boyle singing Perfect Day up above. … Mm… that’s nice … for somebody pottering around their kitchen making up a little song and singing it to themselves while they’re cooking dinner.

    Seriously.

    I guess I’m getting sick of the “you can get on a reality tv music show because you’re cute or you have a backstory and then you think you’re a professional musician” thing.

    That wasn’t Tim’s story at all though. He was eliminated at the Hollywood rounds and returned because one of the through contestants had a contractual conflict. No one should hold anything against Tim for trying to make the best of his opportunities. He’s also going to take acting lessons once he’s settled in L.A.

    Of course it was Tim’s story. The judges certainly didn’t pick him for his fabulous musicianship, killer voice, and beautifully developed musical persona. They picked him because he was cute, and could sort of sing. They let dozens if not hundreds of people with those other three attributes go by the wayside so they could pick a fresh-faced Texas boy who was nonthreatening and CUTE.

    Same way they picked SuBo because she was a pitiful cat lady, and could sort of sing.

    And while I don’t in the least hold it against Tim that he’s trying to make the most of his opportunities, the fact remains that he didn’t get those opportunities because he was the best musician out there but because he was CUTE. And by putting him on the show, they probably sort of made him believe that he should be selling music.

    That’s what I’m sick of. Casting for reasons other than music. And I remain sick of it.
