Thursday Ratings: X Factor Even With Last Thursday Original

Ratings are in from TVBYTheNumbers

No earth-shattering ratings news to report–Fox won the night with adults 18-49 and total viewers. The X Factor’s 3.1 adults 18-49 rating was even with its last Thursday original. (That would be the Nov. 17 episode)

If X Factor can stay steady for the rest of the season, the show will be in good shape. It’s going to get tough as viewers become distracted by the upcoming holidays.

With the X-Factor not reaching the 20 million viewers stratosphere as Simon predicted…he should just accept the viewing numbers as they are and lay off  the predictions.

Dang, I thought the numbers for Santa Claus is Coming To Town would be higher…:O

Simon may have more to cry in his beer about when AI 11 starts next month.  Lots of people may be so disillusioned by XF that it has caused them to realize how much better Idol is.  It would be a real slap at Simon and his pet project if Idol starts the season with more viewers than last year.

I still think all this competition might cause Idol to decline in the ratings. XF is not popular on here but it’s ratings are pretty solid and steady. I think the people who are faithfully watching this show might really like it. The Voice has it’s followers as well, more buzz than X Factor and will be running at the same time as Idol. Plus, The Voice will be leading with it’s best shot, the audition rounds. AI could take a hit.

But then again, maybe it will come back stronger just as you say. I literally have no idea what is going to happen.

I don’t think so, there are people who can’t wait for idol every year. Even those who say they will never watch idol again end up watching. Also, the Voice is premiering a few weeks after idol, so if idol has some talent that will suck people in, then it will be fine. I don’t think The Voice is a real threat to idol, no matter what Adam Levine and Co. say.

The funny thing about The Voice vs Idol to me is that they are so different I almost don’t see them as real competitors. Idol is clearly trying to be a family show appealing to everyone in the country with a TV, and The Voice seems to be targeted a younger, hipper crowd that doesn’t seem to care if grandma gets it or not. LOL. I do wonder if some of the Idol viewers who get frustrated with AI’s old fashioned tendencies will peel off to The Voice. I just wonder if there are enough of those people to make little dent on AI.

I can’t see AI’s rating dipping by half or anything like that, but maybe declining faster than the usual 10% over the course of the season. Maybe. But I do think there is plenty of room for AI and The Voice to co-exist just because they are so different and can probably cultivate separate audiences.

XF on the other hand has so many elements of both shows incorporated that it makes it hard for me to guess what effect it will have. The contestant makeup on XF makes it stand out from the others in that way, but other than that everything is muddy for me.

I also don’t think Idol needs the ‘production/big ol stage and endless dancers’ AND money prize to improve itself over the x-factor and grab more viewers.  Some viewers can be fickle as well as loyal….its never really the same year by year!  How many times we have said…I’M NEVER WATCHING IDOL AGAIN….then come January we are all giddy as if we’ve just had our first kiss…:P

I have to admit it’s not so much thinking Idol will come back bigger as hoping it will… as long as it sours Simon’s disposition.  ;)

I think Idol should start off well coming off of a successful s10. I enjoy Idol even if mostly old people watch it. I like the first couple of weeks of the voice a lot. The blind auditions and team formations are the best part of the show. I’m looking forward to seeing both shows again.

Maybe the Voice can correct things, but their ratings really took a hit over the course of the season.  IMO, the reason for the drop was because there was too much focus on the judges, and the viewers really didn’t feel like they had a say in who stayed and who left.

I wonder how the media will bend the story when the voice and Idol will come back, because it’s very possible that The Voice will get better numbers than Idol for its first show just after the Superbowl.
I’m not that worried for Idol because the buzz should be good coming off a successfull season and the X factor being a relative disapointment.

It’s very hard to predict where The Voice numbers will stabilize in the long run, they’ll need a higher caliber of talent from last year but they are lucky to get the post superbowl slot and a panel of judges who have become even more high profile than last year.

Too bad the ratings were not higher, that was definitely the best show from the X-factor to date, lots of drama, for the first time, I actually got into it

I think American Idol’s numbeers will be fine, because it is American Idol.  Unlike The Voice and X Factor, Idol has established a brand name.  It’s not just about one good season, or one person selling X number of albums.

Maybe the Voice will draw well, but it’s roster of superstar judges didn’t keep the ratings from tumbling last season.  The finale was one of the lowest rated episodes of the show’s run.  They really messed up by rushing through the season, not putting the focus on the contestants, and treating the show like it was filler.  The show might have taken away some of the X Factor’s thunder, but the way that they delivered the show last season might keep them from drawing viewers.

    Final ratings from tvbythenumbers:

There were no adjustments to any of the Thursday originals with adults 18-49 versus Thursday’s preliminary ratings. The repeats of The Big Bang Theory and Rules of Engagement were each adjusted up a tenth, and a repeat of The Secret Circle was adjusted down a tenth with adults 18-49.

I disagree, but its not like Season 10 is the only season of idol. I think only Melanie, Josh, and maybe Leroy and Rachel(if they were of age), would have made it past the semi-finals or Hollywood week on idol.

And? It goes the other way around too. Most idol finalists wouldn’t have made it on XF either. Out of the top 5, only Haley would have made it. I don’t remember the rest of idols anymore, sorry. The point is, they are just looking for different artists. Idol never casted someone like Astro, that’s the reason why he wouldn’t make it, not that idols are more talented.

Overall, I think American Idol had the BEST singers.  I feel there were at least three on The X-Factor that cannot sing.
