Thursday Ratings: The Voice Wins Against X Factor, but Falls

The Voice beat X Factor handily, but still scored it’s lowest ratings for a results show yet. They really should think twice about scheduling against X Factor.

And Glee? OUCH OUCH OUCH. The FOX comedy musical came in 4th in it’s time slot, even behind the aging The Office.

On FOX, The X Factor was flat with last week’s 2.3  adults 18-49 rating. Glee notched a 2.4, down two tenths from its last original’s 2.6 rating and tying its season low.

On NBC, a special Thursday results episode The Voice earned a 3.0, which is its lowest results show rating to date.

Funny how the first half of XF got less than the second half, when 1D was in the first…

  • girlygirltoo

So even the phenomenon known as 1D couldn’t get XF a win? OUCH.

As for Glee, I think it may have simply worn out its welcome with viewers. I wouldn’t be stunned if this is its last season.

  • elliegrll

The thing that I’ve found interesting from the past two nights is that it seemed like both the X Factor and Voice expected to be the #1 and #2 tv shows for those nights, or at least hurt the ratings for the other shows that aired, but that didn’t seem to happen.

  • Valentin432

The Voice was really hurt by the schedulling, should be interesting to see where the numbers end up next week. It will be up, but not sure it will be quite at the same level of the past few weeks.

I don’t know why people thought 1D would change anything ratings wise; we have years and years of evidence that the musical act performing on the result show has very very little impact on the numbers.

  • Leandro

Of course it hurts the ratings for both shows. there are many people who like to watch both. But I think The Voice didn’t have an option this week but scheduling against X-Factor, otherwise they wouldn’t finish the show before Christmas.

  • Montavilla

Funny how the first half of XF got less than the second half, when 1D was in the first…

Maybe they’re like me.  I love Big Bang Theory and can’t stand Two and a Half Men.  I make sure to watch BBT, then I surf between Up All Night and The X-Factor.  I would have probably watched The Voice last night, but when I came here and read about the trainwreck going on on XF, I just had to go to there!

  • Nedsdag

I taped both shows because there were football and basketball games going on at the same time.

Does Nielsen (SIC) rate DVR usage?

  • Jepoy Ramos

I doubt they thought they’d be #1. Wed is Modern Family and Thur is BBT nights. They were never gonna win

  • Klaine

Ive been watching XF and its really sucking.  Most of the singers are mediocre.  Britney is sooooo boring.  As always, Simon is making it about the judges – not the contestants.  How unfair is it if contestants get eliminated because of their mentors -and who knows how much control mentors have or whos pushing the strings – ie I always notice conveniently there are 2-3 performances without dancers so that they can take a break when theyre staging the show and can have time for the big firework performances.  (Demi is bringing it )…Khloe turns out to be a bad choice..Didnt they supposedly screen test her?  There are so many people that are comfortable talking in front of the camera.  Id even try Guiliana Rancic or you have plenty of entertainment reporters who know what theyre doing and are experienced with off the cuff spontaneous comments.  Six million Simon is way far from 20 million.  The Voice has been becoming a good show even though I only catch a tiny bit each week.  Sorry to say I didnt watch Glee last night – I recorded it on my DVR but honestly feel no rush to watch it…It may be the latest show that I just drop off..
PS please pray for my dog who is dying

  • EvenMoreron

If NBC could it would probably put The Voice on every night, it’s clearly boosting the ratings of the shows after it (Revolution, Chicago Fire, The Office).  I wonder where Smash will be placed when it returns in January.

  • Brian

I’m kind of surprised that The Voice is beating X Factor so badly.  It seems like there is more talk about the X Factor.

  • elliegrll

Until two weeks ago the Voice ratings were better than Modern Family’s.  Even if they didn’t win, neither show seemed to hurt the ratings of any other show, with the possible exception of one another’s.

  • Listening

I have to say in 1D’s defense maybe people thought they’d come on at the end of the show. Don’t people save the “Best” performances for last. Some of the Directioners  might of been thinking that would occur.

But I have to say sometimes fans are fickle when it comes to tuning into shows to see their Idol. If I recall correctly Justin Bieber had a special and it got surprisingly low ratings, especially when you consider the millions of twitter followers he has.

  • bahogbugan_simj

i’m not sure what is meant by that they should not be scheduling against X-Factor when if it hadn’t been for the election, only the results show will be up against X-Factor’s live show

come to think of it, it might have been even more LULZY to see a results show beating another’s live show handily

it’s interesting how EW is also taking a contrived stance that The Voice purposefully wanted to go up against X-Factor this week.  really now? LOL

  • loveroftalent

I watched Person of Interest for the first time last night…Amazing show.  I have always heard people talking about it and was flipping channels and started watching..I think I may be hooked.  Didn’t realize one of my favourites actors from Lost is on it….

  • fuzzywuzzy

“Until two weeks ago the Voice ratings were better than Modern Family’s”

    No, they weren’t.

  • Brian

Yeah, person of Interest is good.

  • Kitwana

Maybe Fox should consider making X-Factor a summer show.  6 million total viewers with a 2.3 in the 18-49 demo is absolutely pathetic. I wonder how much Fox has to give advertisers to compensate them for these ratings. I can’t imagine that these are the numbers that Fox anticipated when they brought in Britney and retooled the show.

As for Glee, I can’t say I’m surprised.  I think the show lost its watercooler buzz some time ago.  It’s certainly not dominating itunes like it used to.  For Jessica Sanchez’s sake, this show better get hotter before her appearances.  Her team is definitely taking a risk releasing new music after the new idol Season has started.  I guess they’re betting on a bump in promo from her appearance on Glee.  Two years ago, I would say it’s a good bet.  Not so sure today.  It’s too late now but it would probably be a better bet to try to get the CD out earlier to take advantage of the Christmas buying and before the public become enamoured with the new contestants.  We’ll see.

You are right about that. NBC even split the special to air 2 consecutive nights, June 20 and 21.

    Wednesday, June 20, 2012:

    NBC    Justin
Bieber: All Around the World  0.9   3   3.020

    Thursday, June 21, 2012:

    NBC    Justin
Bieber: All Around the World  0.8   3   3.100

TVoice ratings on a Thursday night was still impressive being that it is TBBT night.  Thursday nights viewers are already fixed on their comedies and to still get the rating it gets can be considered a success.  I doubt it has anything to do with going against XF; there is no competition between them as TVoice will always be on top if they go head to head.

I feel for you. My dog died of cancer almost 2 years ago now, I had to
put him to sleep he was in too much pain. I’m still mourning the little
guy. I hope yours isn’t in too much pain. My prayers go out to both of you.

  • Axxxel

Looking at your name, I can imagine that you are not really inclined to watch this 5th episode of Glee that only features 5 minutes of a depressed and lamenting Blaine and just a picture of Kurt. I also felt that I have said “goodbye” to Glee in the previous episode… but I will still follow the series till the bitter end…even if my favorite characters are not on it anymore.

Hope the best will happen to your dog… Seems that it is a lucky dog to have an caring owner like you…

  • Taylor

Nothing beats Big Bang at this point, not even 1D.

  • Kariann Hart

With The Voice being a better show, I am not surprised at the ratings.  Will Simon try to figure something out for next year?

I may be in the minority, but I still do enjoy watching Glee.  It was sad seeing Blaine in so much pain.

  • Jules

Person of Interest is currently my #1 show – I’m definitely hooked and addicted!!

  • AlexHD

Don’t put an apostrophe on “its” unless it’s a contraction of “it is”.
