Thursday Ratings: American Idol Falls Despite Save

Ratings are in from TVByTheNumbers

FOX topped the night’s adults 18-49 rating, even as American Idol’s 3.9 adults 18-49 rating matched its series low for a results show, down 9% vs. last week’s 4.3 rating. At 9pm, Touch kept falling, down 9% to a series/season low 2.1 adults 18-49 rating, vs. last week’s 2.3  rating.

The Voice: Results 3.3 9 8.860
Dancing with the Stars: Results 2.5 7 14.170

The buzz around Jessica Sanchez’s surprise boot and save did not entice more viewers to tune into this week’s Idol results show.  Idol continues to best The Voice and Dancing with the Stars comparable episodes in the demo, although once again, DWTS edges out Idol for viewers.J

We’re back to the numbers from 2 weeks ago (probably a little higher with the final adjustment).

Last week was special because both Seacrest and Nigel went on and on about the shocker during the day, while  this week they never mentioned it before the telecast.

I’m shocked by the ZERO news stories this year about how broadcast television IS DYING.

These ratings systems are archaic. Every week we see lower and lower scores. a 2.0 is considered STRONG nowadays when it was a death sentence years ago.

Why aren’t there ANY articles about this?

We are witnessing a complete change in the way we watch our media.

It’s definitely true that last night’s elimination show didn’t care the buzz and shock and awe factor of last week so to see the drop isn’t really surprising.

I don’t think Jessica Sanchez is that exciting to the general audience. Pia getting booted last year actual got some major buzz. Even if Jessica had been booted, I don’t think it would have been much of a story.

Idol is certainly doing fine but I don’t think any of the contestant getting the boot would affect the ratings much.

I would have thought that Kris’s performance would have helped the show in the ratings. :(

I hope ratings don’t get so low they cancel it. I always look forward to American Idol and Big Brother.

Nobody really cares about B.B. Chez in America except for her fans overseas. She deserved the save last week, but we’ve had better girls in the last few years who haven’t gotten the recognition she has so far. I think that leaves a bitter taste in a lot of Idol fan’s mouths.
