    Mindy Done
On ”American Idol,” the elimination of Melinda Doolittle, one of the best contestants ever, leaves us in shock

Okay, so either there was something really funky in the chicken-and-cheese quesadilla I had for dinner tonight, or I just watched Melinda Doolittle get the boot from American Idol. And since I’ve got a column to file sometime around midnight (which doesn’t really leave time for a trip to the ER to get my stomach pumped), I’m going to proceed under the latter theory…..

Wednesday Night’s Idol: It’s Blake vs. Jordin!

PEOPLE critic Tom Gliatto is disappointed but not surprised that Melinda Doolittle is out.

“This. Is. The. Hard. Part,” Ryan Seacrest said just before he announced who’ll be missing out on next week’s finale. He called out Jordin Sparks’ name first, guaranteeing her return. Then, standing by Blake Lewis and Melinda Doolittle, he asked: “Will it be girl-girl? Guy-girl?” Blake, clearly giving way to nerves and trying to toss out a joke about his beat-boxing style, stammered a non-answer: “Girl, machine à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ machine…” ……

American Idol: The suck is almost over

Everyone should un-bunch their panties already. Yes, Melinda Doolittle is off of American Idol. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not a shocker and ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s hardly the end of the world. The fact that Blake Lewis might be the next American Idol causes me grave concern.

Now I know there isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t a God. Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s because Melindaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s much-ballyhooed trip back to her church couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t save the uber-skilled singer. If anything, Melindaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s boot from AI6 proves either a) That sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s too good for Idol or b) That God got lazy this week and didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t vote as much as he should have….

Sparks to sing for title in ‘Idol’ finale

Just one more round and the girl from Glendale can win it all.

Jordin Sparks will take the stage at Kodak Theater next week to battle Blake Lewis for the American Idol crown.

On Wednesday night, Melinda Doolittle was sent home, making Sparks, 17, the first Arizona contestant to make the talent show’s final.

Portions of next Wednesday’s results show will air live from a giant viewing party at Jobing.com Arena, a Glendale spokeswoman said. A yet-to-be-identified celebrity will host the free party as Idol producers check in with Sparks’ hometown between performances……..

    Movie Reviews
    Out-classed

You don’t go to a movie called Eating Out 2: Sloppy Seconds for a thoughtful examination of the queer zeitgeist. But there should be more wit and fun in this silly story about two sparring exes, their female friends à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ one’s a fag hag, the other’s a slut à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ and the cornpone stud who makes them all go gaga.

The cleverest sequences involve an ex-gay support group called Coming In, but this is warmed-over material from the superior But I’m A Cheerleader. The attractive actors (including former American Idol contestant Jim Verraros) are competent, but the film has a cynical, let’s-churn-it-out feel. I guess gay sequels are as formulaic as straight ones.

Melinda’s out, Blake and Jordin vie for crown

…The truly regal Melinda Doolittle, this season’s best all-around talent, was sent home. Not a total surprise.

Doolittle’s third place finish belies her transformation from backup singer to
frontwoman. In many ways, she deserves to be this year’s Idol. She was the best singer and most consistent performer of the phenomenally popular show’s sixth season.

But her age, polish and looks probably worked against her with the show’s
young, core audience. She’s pushing 30, doesn’t look the part and probably
didn’t resonate with them the way the charming, edgy Blake and perky, accomplished Jordin did…..

So, yes, the “Idol” finale is reserved for the bubbly teenager, Jordin Sparks, who µs a darling girl who deserves to win it all now. Oh, and that character Blake Lewis made it, too. Great. He’ll no doubt try to convince record label executives that beatboxing is ready for a comeback.

American Idol: The final two is set…and viewers aren’t happy

…This result came about because of the vote split between Jordin and Melinda. They are far more similar to each other than either of them are to Blake (obviously). This creates a simple split if the vote. People who like contemporary guys who beat-box and arrange their own songs voted for Blake. People who like more classical, big-voiced females had to choose between Melinda and Jordin. So, in essence, Blake was likely a shoe-in for the finale, with the real competition being between Jordin and Melinda, which Melinda won…

    Semifinals: The official summary

Here’s the official write-up. I’m sure we’ll all have more to say by tomorrow.

In one of American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s all-time upsets, Melinda Doolittle, 29, anointed Tuesday night by judge Simon Cowell as his favorite and widely regarded as the best singer and leading candidate for the Idol title all season, was eliminated Wednesday night.

That leaves Jordin Sparks, 17, to compete with Blake Lewis, 25, for the Idol title. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the fourth finale in six seasons featuring a woman-vs.-man battle. Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood won the first two such face-offs, but last year Taylor Hicks finally won one for the men.

The great ‘American Idol’ cologne experiment

As I’ve said before, I don’t watch “American Idol.”

I would never go as far as saying I hate or even dislike the show. That would require active engagement, and whenever the show is on, which is constantly, I’ve been able to find other ways of occupying myself, such as doing laundry, watering my cactus, Swiffer-ing the apartment, cleaning my cat’s litter box and so on.

Even though fans of “American Idol” are violating at least one biblical commandment, I’ve decided to get off my high horse and join them as next week’s season finale approaches.
That doesn’t mean I intend to watch the show. Don’t be ridiculous. Here’s what I’ll do: Go about my usual routine this weekend, except slathered in “American Idol” cologne….

    The resident pro … goes

…Indeed, that fact makes it strangely fitting that the performer on Wednesday’s show was none other than last season’s third-place finisher Elliott Yamin, a nice guy and excellent singer who was hampered by the lack of strong personality that also, I think, affected Melinda’s bid. (And Elliott continues to have that problem, judging from the vocally excellent but distraction-inducing, generic R&B slow jam he performed.) Throughout the season, it seemed that Melinda’s consistency and perfection worked against her in a way, as she hit her notes but wasn’t always able to deepen performances with more personality and emotion. (As I believe Kelly Clarkson herself mentioned in a recent interview, sometimes there’s more truth in an imperfect note.)…

    1.) Jordin Sparks 34.1%
    2.) Blake Lewis 33.1%
    3.) Melinda Doolittle 32.8%

He wrote the elimination was almost too close to call, and the producers contemplated all day whether to boot Blake or Melinda, some taking both sides. But, in the end they went with Melinda who actually did have the lowest number of votes. They are also thinking about having yet another additional phone line during the finale so people do not get busy signals.”

  • Lisa B

Hi Purps, not surprised with the result, I said yesterday the only shocker would be a Blake boot at this point. I think he has the fanbase to win it now.

    Must dash, be back later.

  • squishy

I don’t think it is a foregone conclusion that Blake is going to win it now based upon his perceived big fan base. I suspect that a lot of Melinda voters are the more casual voters who vote for who they think is the best of the night or the best overall of the season.

It will come down to performance next week rather than fan base since Jordin’s and Blake’s fan base are about similar in size (especially after seeing the insider’s possible vote totals).

The “Melinda casual voters” will go towards who does the best next week and will tip the scale to the eventual winner.

Actually looking forward to next week’s Finals. Not only because DAUGHTRY will perform “Home” but there is NO real frontrunner now. It really could go either way.

I would love it if Blake beat boxed the coronation song with a Gospel choir in the background. I think that would be kinda hot!!!!

Just wow on this article. Kelly maybe needs to take a little break or something. GOOD LUCK Team Plaid hope everything turns out the way you would like for it to concerning your guy…I have enjoyed watching some of his performances this season..Just wish he would do something with those pointy sideburns, they make him look like an ELF…

Also, ya better hope the votes are not close, and are in his favor so they can’t manipulate the outcome just in case he is NOT their chosen one…

I don’t know if it was a foreshadow of this season or an oversight but I was reading this week’s In Touch Magazine and in the “don’t miss” section for next week’s tv shows there was no mentioning of AI finals. They had the DWTS finals and even gave attention to the show So You Think You Can Dance, which comes on the day after the AI finale, a mention but no AI.

I am not really surprised that Melinda got voted off because this has been a real WTH type of season. Sadly, I wonder how much buzz have this season really generated amongst the sometimes jaded celebrities. I did not notice a lot in the audience this year. There was a small write-up in the same In Touch magazine that I was read about the final three and what struck me was only Jordin had celebrities in her “biggest fan” section. By this time last year, all three contestants had celebrities as their biggest.. I don’t know if it a reflection of this season, but here’s hoping next year TPTB at AI return the human quality to the new crop of contestants.

  • jeannie

Here’s one Melinda fan that will be voting for Blake non-stop.

that’s interesting. I think celebrities, like the rest of ai’s viewers, probably lost interest in the show. i remember last season, talk show hosts would bring up AI with TONS of guests and the guests always had something to say and what always struck me the most was how passionate they actually seemed about the contestants they liked. I know Mandy Moore was a big fan of Taylor’s and Ray Ramono told that hilarious story about driving around Sherman Oaks looking for Katharine when he was on Ellen. There’s definitely considerably less “buzz” about the show this season. It’s reflected in the ratings as well.

  • Abilymom

Now that Melinda’s gone, I will join with Team Plaid.

And by join I mean kinda sorta hope he wins.

  • tinawina

    Well, wow. Just wow.

I don’t know what it is. There’s a shocking elimation almost every year, and I have certainly experienced not having my favorite win before. Despite all that, I was truly effected by Melinda’s boot. I actually cried. Then I got angry. It just felt so… WRONG. I mean, she was the most consistent, best singer, and a nice person to boot. How could she not make the finals? Nothing against the other 2, because I like them as well. I’m still in shock over it. I don’t even know what to say. I’m just confused, I guess. :cry_tb:

Regis and Kelly talked about Idol this morning. She mentioned the Blake/Jordin finish. But the audience didn’t applaud/hoot until Kelly talked about the finals of America’s Next Top Model. They have an older audience but it was still weird.

Something interesting Chris Sligh posted on his blog a few days ago (watch out Taylor Hicks, Chubby will be (gasp) dancing !!):

    —————————–

While things in my personal career are going incredibly better than I could’ve planned, it’s time to focus on what will happen between now and when I get to be on my own outside of American Idol again.

    The American Idol Tour!!!

I know, I know – I’ve caught a lot of flack from certain segments of the population for actually wanting to be a part of this. I’ve been told it’s cheesy. I’ve been told it’s humiliating. Look, the way I look at it is this: anything can be cheesy if you allow it to be. I know nothing about the American Idol tour. I’ve never been to a tour date, I’ve never seen video except of Chris Daughtry singing “Wanted Dead or Alive” on last year’s tour. I’m literally walking in with a blank slate for the tour. So, in my mind, this year’s tour will not be cheesy. It’s all in the mindset.

Plus, I happen to know a little bit of how production will be. And it’s going to be really cool.

Will I do things that I normally wouldn’t do (i.e., choreography)? Yes. But I actually enjoyed the choreography (not much, but a little) on the show. The only reason I didn’t enjoy the choreography is simply because of time constraints. I’m chubby, so I’m not a natural dancer, so only have a couple of hours to work out a dance routine was a little scary for me. A lot of poeple thought I was hating on the dancing while I was on the show, but actually when I watch back the tapes I wasn’t angry or pissed about doing choreography, I was just thinking really hard of what came next…it’s hard to smile when you’re thinking hard about “dance moves”.

  • Abilymom

I knew Jaslene was going to win, her pictures were gorgeous, but I didn’t really like her very much, especially when she said if Natasha wins she was going to tear Natasha’s hair out.

Dude. There are going to be life-sized Pop-Tarts chasing people around the audience. It’s going to be cheesy.

Plus, I happen to know a little bit of how production will be. And ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s going to be really cool.

Dude. The set is going to be made out of tin-foil. The production values will not be cool. Use another word starting with “c”….The production values will be cheap.

Ah, Chris is like a new born baby to the AI tour world. He won’t even see the bedazzlers coming until it is too late.

  • Little Boy Blue

Listening to Maroon 5, I just realized one thing — Blake could replace the lead singer and the song wouldn’t suffer anything at all.

    That’s where Blake’s music is.

  • jpfan

Kirsten LOL Yes c for cheap not c for cool. The AI tour had the worst production values of any show I’ve ever seen. I’ve seen h.s. plays that look like more $ went into them.

  • SpenserJ

Although I was disappointed in seeing Melinda leave last night, I thought the show itself was great. Elliott was back! And, I’m a fan of Maroon 5. Also, I found the wait for the result very suspenseful. I felt immediate dissappointment when Jordin was the first one declared safe. I got very nervous for Team Plaid. Then, I was sad to see Melinda go. I enjoyed her sing out and she showed the world again what an amazing voice she has. She wasn’t my favorite contestant, but there’s no denying that she has a bucket full of talent.

In the end I was excited for Blake, yet sad for Melinda and completely annoyed with Jordin and America. But, the show had me engaged and interested and gave me a little roller coaster of feelings. So, to me that’s entertainment. I’m looking forward to the finale and seeing all of the Top 12 again and of course seeing Taylor Hicks and whoever else they have on.

One thing people aren’t mentioning – the “curse” of the anywhere-but-South has been broken. Jordin’s from Arizona, and Blake’s from Washington.

  • sarahinwv

I like Maroon 5 , also… but he just didn’t sound like himself… and , I, too, noticed that the entertainment bloggers and whatnots haven’t been saying which celebrity likes which AI finalist(s). When do the ratings come in? :mellow_tb:

  • rher

Last night, I was reading my latest issue of More magazine, and they had an interview with Cecile Frot-Coutaz, who is CEO of Freemantlemedia and executive producer of American Idol. Here is a snippet of what the article said

In fact, the biggest myth about the nationwide search for a new pop idol “is that American Idol is a music show,” she notes wryly. “At least 50 percent of it has nothing to do with singing.” If it had, “Sanjaya wouldn’t have a spot,” she says of the teen who made it to the finals despite performances so flat that the judges were reduced to complimenting his hair. Another finalist sparked controversy because of provocative photographs circulated on the Internet. . . . Producing Idol has certainly enhanced her understanding of human nature. “It doesn’t take long for contestants to turn from very regular kids to divas,” she observes. “It’s something about the power of TV and the power of fame that does that to people, and I’m not judging anybody . . . It’s just happening quicker and quicker. Now it takes about 2 days.”

  • Paula

Melinda has been in the middle and near the bottom of dialidol several times, so I wasn’t surprised to see her go. It’s mostly younger people voting non-stop, so naturally the younger performers get those votes. I’m sure tweens didn’t vote for Melinda, because they’re not into her type of singing.

  • emeralgem

Kristen, any news from front the front office? Any secret memos about how TPTB felt about last nights show. Did Clive watch? How about next week’s finale..Any tibits of info to pass along..LOL

Lots to read this morning – thanks, LisaB. The headlines say it all: Melinda was supposed to win the whole thing or at least be a shoo-in for the finale. I know she will be fine, and hopefully will be able to pick and choose the direction her career goes after the tour.

I was very sad and disappointed and TICKED last night when she was the bottom of the three. This morning I am thinking, “WOW! NEXT Tuesday I am free!” I won’t be watching the show – there is nothing on Tuesday night that interests me in the least now. I do look forward to Wednesday’s finale and seeing Taylor performing again; hope he gets to do one by himself, but I guess I won’t be surprised if all he gets is to sing with Jordin and Blake. :(

We also get to see all the Top 12, and I actually look forward to that again.

It would make for better tv next week. I would tune in just to see what hair-style the stylist managed to fix on top of Sanjaya’s head and what what sexy outfit those behind the scenes choose to put on Haley. Since it’s not about the singing anymore. We might as well be visually entertained.

Oh my, is THIS guy naive! You said it, Kirsten. Well, maybe they will shell out some extra $ and go get some of those long streamers at a party supply place, and, oh, a coupla fans to sorta blow them around and hang them in the background. That might up the production values a smidge.

I have always felt among the top 4/5/6 it was anyone’s game this year. Melinda was by far the best singer of the lot, but lacked in other areas.

The final two is just the capper on a less-than-stellar Idol year.

ETA: Pet peeve. Why do people call it “voted off” as if Melinda received 20 million or so votes to get rid of her, a la Survivor.

  • Nostradamas

I may be wrong here, but did Melinda EVER beg for votes during the phone number rundown by Ryan…..you know, no shout-outs to the Soul Patrol, McPhans, fingering the numbers, heart shaped hand movemements, anything, anytime???

My goodness. What a difference a few hours of sleep makes.

I’m still disappointed; but I’m also happy for Melinda. She
will not be under the microscope, now. She can put out her CD
and anything she sells will be lagniappe, unlike the final 2, whose
    albums will be scrutinized and compared, not only with each other;
but against all the previous winners and runnersup. Yeah, I’m
happy that Melinda doesn’t have to play that game.

I can now see why the show is losing ratings. I was blinded by
the glare of the tinfoil before, I guess. I don’t see too many
more seasons for Idol. The show is a joke and people have better

I do want to say that the one thing that impresses me about Blake (not his singing) is that he is so sweet and gentlemanly towards the other contestants, and that’s a quality that Taylor had, too – I think both of them together will excite and ignite the audience. Don’t miss Wednesday night – you will probably be sorry if you do.

Wednesday Night’s Idol: What You Didn’t See

    Melinda Doo-So-Much

…But Doolittle kept her cool throughout, gave another great performance and, without thinking of herself, managed to thank the most important people other than the Idols onstage à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ Ricky Minor and the band à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ rather than keep the beautiful bouquets given to her by finalists Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis, she walked over and handed them to the wonderful backup singers…

    The Big Toss
After Wednesday night’s show, fans got to stick around to see BOLD “Ryan Seacrest”] flip the coin to see who will kick off next week’s finale. The coin had a picture of Jordin on one side and Blake on the other. He tossed it up and Lewis it was à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ but, when asked whether he wanted to go first or second, Blake said, “Let’s let the producers decide.” Then, turning to Jordin, the great sport said: “Do you want to go first?” It didn’t take Sparks long to decide à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ so it will be Blake Lewis who will sing the first song in the final performance show live at the Kodak Theatre next week.

…Now, I know youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve all seen Paula dancing during the guest performances, but until last night Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d never bothered to look over at band director Ricky Miner, and, I gotta say, for sheer entertainment value, the camera should really be on him. During Maroon 5à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s set, the guy, normally so cool and composed, started to flail his arms like a drunk uncle at a wedding. Perhaps heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s always been like this; perhaps heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a huge Maroon 5 fan. All I know is without a band to lead, Ricky let his inner spaz shine through, and if anything I like the dude even more now. Essentially because Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m all spaz….

………….. Idol gives Elliott a huge boost with 60,000 plus hits on his My Space, #1 Mover and Shaker on Amazon (Elliott up 536%) and goes from 95 to 20 on Top Albums on Itunes. Thanks AI.

    Hip Hip! Good for Elliott!

Blake you are smarter than that. You should have taken the pimp spot.

I think that Blake is smart enough to know that you don’t want to win this thing if you are not TCO.

Coming in second, Blake will get almost as much press as the winner. That’s good enough to launch a career and he will get a recording contract. The expectations will be far lower. Kat is called a huge success by the media despite selling less than half of what the winner sold who is called a loser. Plus, he may be able to avoid getting the dreaded Diane Warren song on his CD.

Blake is a very smart cookie. He understands strategy. Plus, he looks like a real gentleman now. A very good sport.

Although, I must say, most people would have politely accepted the offer to go first because they would know that it wasn’t really a question. Blake was probably just being polite. But Jordin realizes that sometimes winning trumps conventions of politeness.

Blake isn’t stupid. He can see the writing on the wall.
Jordin is the next AI. How hard is that to understand?

You go, Blake! You’re a great kid!

Taylor said on Fox6AL in Birmingham this morning that he would be on Tuesday night to perform, then on finale.

  • Kylene

In rethinking my initial reaction to this, I agree Kirsten. I didn’t think it through about the expectations of non-winners vs. those of the winner, but you’re absolutely right. I wouldn’t mind having another “Clay”. (As long as it doesn’t come with “Claymates” crying foul for the next four years, I’m fine with it.)

However, I did think that the fact that he’s been (if one can judge by the backstage videos and his actions during sing offs) quite a considerate guy through all of this just helps him. I mean, at least you can’t fault him for being polite.

  • Desdemona

Thanks for the YouTube of “I Made it Through The Rain”, LBB. I had saved it as an MP3 and was going to upload it to MediaMax for Sarah.

The applause is really strong for Taylor – and for Carrie. It was good when Kat started, but magnified when Taylor joined, as when Carrie did. After each did their “first” part, it was Kat’s turn again – audience quiet. Taylor starts his second solo part – again loud applause.

wow. Blake is a stand up guy. ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m sure he knew that giving up the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“pimp spotà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ could hurt him, but i honestly donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think he really cares at this point. maybe ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m wrong though.

Hey, I don’t think Blake cares that much either. So I am really looking forward to seeing what he does with the chessey coronation song he is handed.

But tell that to Dallas. Man is this guy ever intense. Got his game face on and the next show is like five days away.

Maybe AI is trying to get as many season five idols on as possible on Tuesday so they can up that viewership for the final two episodes.

without thinking of herself, managed to thank the most important people other than the Idols onstage à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ Ricky Minor and the band à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ rather than keep the beautiful bouquets given to her by finalists Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis, she walked over and handed them to the wonderful backup singers

  • pj

Db, you’re very welcome! Too bad the outcome wasn’t better.

Stevo-o, his best friend and Blaker Girl spokeswoman Kristi says he wants to win, so I’m going with that. He certainly performed this week like he is in it to win.

Plus, he is a product of TPTB whether he wins or not. Might as well win the million dollar recording contract.

However, I think he just has a very zen “what will be, will be” outlook on the whole thing. He seems to be happy with whatever happens.

Leaving out the who-got-more-applause last year — S 6 will have to go a long way to match that amazing S 5 finale. It was terrific, start to finish. Even the silly stuff.

I am looking forward to seeing what they can possibly do to top last year.

Good news about Taylor — two nights! Something to look forward to next week fer sure.

Wait, Taylor said heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s performing on Tuesday and Wednesday? And Chris is on Tuesday? When are Jordin and Blake going to perform?

I find it easy to believe that Taylor doesn’t actually know what’s going on next week and/or misspoke. Unless they cut the finalists down to two songs, I don’t see how Chris and Taylor would both squeeze into the performance show, which shouldn’t be about them anyway.

  • Who’sUrDaddy

Whew, its over. Blake’s dad left. He’s now out canvassing the rest of the neighbourhood.

Got a little dicey there for a moment. When he saw I was on YouTube analyzing applause for the AI5 finale, he said to me, “You can’t be serious?” He was none too pleased.

I warmed up some milk, he drank it through a straw, I burped him and he left.

Interesting when he was going through my CD collection, all he could mutter was, “Neil Young, is that ALL you listen to.”

Well sort of, ‘cept he came across an old Traffic best of CD(1967 -1975). He put it on and we both agreed Blake matches up real well with Stevie Winwood.
‘Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys,’ anyone? Maybe Blake will update that under appreciated classic on his first album.

    So it is all good.

If Taylor is on next Tuesday, it must be a surprise, and I am not happy about it. Just more chances for comparisons as far as I am concerned, and will he and Simon do a kiss and make up scene? Will he and Chris do a luvya man hug. (See, we are all one big happy Idol family) Ugh It’s all starting to gross me out.

I don’t want Jordin to win.
I would have been happy is she had been booted instead of Sanjaya…
Sanjaya and Blake would have made for a very interesting and entertaining finale since this is really no longer a singing competition…
They put Sanjaya through for the fun of it… It would serve em right..
Right now, I’m just hoping that Blake can pull off one of those dreadful coronation songs and WIN so she won’t.

    Go team plaid!

Kiki was my favorite, gone..I wanted to see a Blake/ Melinda finale..Melinda is gone..I feel like I should be for Jordin(ugh) just not to jinx Blake, so I will not say go B…., but will say GO TEAM PLAID!!

I loved the comment from Blake’s dad last night about not having parents and then obviously relishing his role as Blake’s dad, how damned touching was that? And ya gotta love a young man who isn’t too cool or too ashamed to call his papa daddy on national tv.

I saw a few of the comments about Taylor here yesterday(can’t post at work anymore, dang it) and I have to say, at the Warfield, 2 pairs of panties were thrown right together. Taylor stepped back, looked into the area where they had come from, waited for a third pair to plop down beside him, laughed and said “the third time’s a charm.” He then walked over right of them and started his next song. I thought it was very funny, though I am not the type to hurl my undies, I think if these ladies are having fun, let ‘em fling those undies up there.

We were sitting in the second loge, right behind the monitor that showed Taylor on the DVD as he was being taped. Hot,hot,hot..he looked incredible, although, I hope he doesn’t lose any more weight, he looks good with big thighs!

I am so ready to see Taylor on my tv again, whoo!

Does anyone have thoughts/insight on the coronation song process? I tried to listen to the choices, but never really paid attention the the rules. Will Blake and Jordin sing the same song? Or will they take their different styles into account?

I only got through like 3 of them before my ears started to bleed. Was it really a winner takes all contest? Or can TPTB decide that a particular one works better on either of the Idols and go with that instead?

Some news about Kats new single which goes for adds in 2 weeks:

Well following the same pattern as Over It Love Story got 2 US spins yesterday exactly 2 weeks before the official adds date. For the “record,” WSTW-FM in Wilmington DE and WERO-FM in Greenville NC were the first 2 stations to play Love Story.
In Canada Love Story continues to climb the charts. On Canadian HAC (Hot Adult Contemporary) Katharine has moved up to #169 with 13 spins this week. CIOO-FM In Halifax has 10 spins and a new station CHWV-FM in Saint John NB has 3. On radio station CIOO, Love Story is #44 and Over It #43.

On Canadian Top 40 Love Story is #388 with 5 spins and 4 stations playing Kat. CIHT-FM is the leader with 2 spins.
UPDATE: Kat’s at #238 on Pop with 4 spins and has an AI of 0.024 mil. She has been played by KHKS-FM (Dallas) and WIHB-FM (Charleston, SC).

Not really anything too exciting, but two weeks before the single is released and it’s getting some early spins.

Really bummed about Melinda. There are very few singers who have been ALWAYS consistent week-in and week-out at the Idol competition. No, they may not be the most exciting, but they never sing badly or stumble or have an off night in any week.

The following always consistent contestants come to mind : Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Latoya London and of course Melinda.

So, two questions about Melinda Doolittle :

    1) Will she be signed by a label ?

    2) If so, what kind of album should she make ( please, not the kind Kat and Paris have made ).

I imagine he will come out with one at some point here I am just a little surprised that I don’t even really remember hearing much about him working on one for quite a while.

I know amazon #’s are pretty much meaningless, but Elliott’s up 1200% on the Movers and Shakers list at #1. Interesting side note, Taylor’s album is up 201% at #2 on the same list. Next week should be interesting!

Alson Taylor was on the Rick and Bubba Radio show this morning and said also he’d be on Tuesday and Wednesday’s show next week -

I hope Jordin wins. I just can’t see TPTB lettting Blake be Blake. Besides, now that they’ve gone on record stating who they want to win is there any doubt that she won’t be treated like the winner regardless? As it stands, Blake, Melinda and Chris Sligh each stand a good chance of producing the first Idol debut album that I actually love. I don’t want 19E messing with my mojo on this one.

Who knows what they are doing this year? With no compilation CD, there may also be no CD single.

But, in the past, coming in second didn’t mean no crappy coronation song. It meant you got to release your crappy coronation song after the winner did (except for Clay, he got to release it the same week as Ruben, but they had different coronation songs). Some years, it was even the same crappy coronation song (“Inside Your Heaven” was released by both Carrie and Bo).

But again, this season they are breaking molds all over the place.

  • jpfan

Looked at Movers and shakers on Amazon and see Kat at #5. So Elliott’s appearance boosted sales for the entire top 3. That said, Taylor and Kat and still below 100 on the listings for whatever that’s worth. I am very interested in seeing if Taylor’s appearance(s) next week give him the big boost E got last night. Has Kat confirmed she’ll be back on idol? Pretty carpy if they don’t have her on (and I’m no fan). Kellie, E, Chris, Taylor and not Kat would be very odd indeed. I think the eyes closed thing was nerves. Keep you eyes open Elliott.

Kristen, we keep forgetting about the runner-ups from season one-four. IMO, last year was what it was. I really don’t expect this year to be the same. It will be interesting to see how this season’s 1st and 2nd place finishers get treated due to a “oh hum” season. This season may just surprise us with something new. Last season did. • Little Boy Blue

I still cannot believe that craptacular Blake made it further than Melinda. I mean, what in the hell? Melinda at LEAST deserved the finale.

In a way, I would have to say that Melinda’s consistency became a two-edged sword. Consistency only takes you so far and then eventually you’re so good that you become forgettable and people who voted for you in the past begin to think you’re going to be safe anyway and fail to vote for you.

There really wasn’t a “Summertime” or “You Give Love a Bad Name” moment for Melinda, who was technically good in the same manner every week.

Also, I think Melinda’s votes might have split with Jordin’s since their styles are more similar.

In the end, it would probably be a blessing not to be the AI winner. You get to do the kind of album you like without too many cooks telling you that you should try this or that.

  • Kirsten

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think Taylor said heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d perform on Tuesday, but that he would be there.

Of course he will. Those damn cars don’t park themselves.

Seriously, I think that the former Idol is often in the audience on Final 2 performance. No? I remember last year that people thought that Carrie was snubbing the show when she didn’t (but, she was at an awards ceremony where she won an award, so she wasn’t snubbing). And maybe Fantasia was sick.

This year, I hope that Sanjaya is waving Blake’s head on a stick. I love the heads-on-a-stick schtick.

Will David Foster be there to shoot dagger eyes at Blake? Will the choir members get new robes? Will the pyro guys finally manage to light somebody’s hair on fire when they start with the fireworks?

  • rher

griz, the hairdo and the closed eyes were distractions to me. Was he scared to look at Simon? That’s the only thing I could rationalize for why his eyes were closed.

  • http://www.xanga.com/werwanderflugen Preston

Can I say that while I’ll miss my fave Melinda terribly, I’m actually looking forward to next Tuesday’s performance show? While they’re not the best singers ever on AI, I have the feeling that Jordin and Blake can give us something to cheer about.

The situation with Ace puzzles the heck out of me. He is real example that it takes more than looks and a nice voice to make it in this business. Maybe he needs to hire Kat’s people…

So Taylor and Chris will be present next week. Damn, just when I was going to pass on the show next week Tuesday. Now I will be forced to switch back and forth between DWTS and AI. I wonder if TPTB at AI caught wind of how many tv sets would be turned off next week and is trying to salvage the finals. http://www.rickey.org/?p=3552

Apparently, he plays a famous record producer who also sings ( I’m not sure if he’s lying or just has his smarmy eye on the girl ). He says he runs his studio out of a loft in Hollywood. The funny thing ( at least for me ) is this — he is still named Constantine in the TV series !

The script is so deliciously bad, it’s good.

Will the pyro guys finally manage to light somebody’s hair on fire when they start with the fireworks?

Lol, Kirsten, last year I am sure I distinctly heard an extra loud whooo from Taylor when one of those sparks hit him.

Not funny in the least, astute marketing he’s debuting tracks from his album on the show.

Funny thing, we’ve been saying that all season about all the contestants this year. It has become a fimiliar theme. I guess it will end on Tuesday night.

  • sarahinwv

Kirsten… you make me laugh, alot…so … I’ll let that slide by…… the “parking cars” line…I wuv Taylor… don’t make fun of him :cry_wp:

I agree Nola – I really hate everything about Katharine, but for just principle, she SHOULD be on either the tuesday or wed finale, being that she was runner up. They could have easily put her on in the Maroon 5 spot last night, and anyone of the spots during the year – it would have been the correct thing to do. If I were her fan, I’d be pissed as hell actually. I wanted to see her choreography on “Open Toes” – dayum.

Maybe Katharine doesn’t want to appear.

There has been an underlying message in all her interviews that she’s ready to move on.

I doubt that AI are snubbing her, she’s their pin up queen.

  • sammy

Well, I can’t believe Kat wasn’t asked to perform. Either she will be on AI next week or she decided against it for some reason. It would be nice if she could perform in the finale.

Elliott did so well last night. I think this will really help his CD. I attributed the “closed eyes” as feeling the song. Most reviews that I’ve seen have been very good.

Surprised that Melinda got the boot. Being third may not be a bad thing for her. Winning just ain’t what it used to be. :wink_wp:

  • Lisa B

Thanks Em, I knew he had other duties it just went straight out of my head. :lol_tb:

Kirsten – I hope Clive has Taylor’s rota sorted, no skiving on the red carpet or there’ll be trouble.

  • emeralgem

NOLA.. I agree and if not to the finale at least to the Tuesday night performance..If both Elliott and Chris were invited she certainly should have been.
I can’t believe I’m saying this.. I think Melinda’s departure tugged at my heart strings..I’m feeling sorry for everyone that has been dissed and run over by the machine named AI…

  • radname

Katharine isn’t snubbing AI, she says it’s always going to be a apart of her career and she’s fine with that. Her schedule around the finale is kinda tight, she has a concert on the next day and the previous day of the finale.
And emeralgem what I meant by the Tina Turner/Blues vibe is songs like I am Woman, and Nutbush City Limit, I was not saying that Tina Turner is blues. That’s where I think Melinda shines. Not the Whitney Houston kinda vibe.

  • mnsoul

Well, I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t believe Kat wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t asked to perform. Either she will be on AI next week or she decided against it for some reason. It would be nice if she could perform in the finale.

Well I heard that she will indeed be on the finale. The segment will feature Haley and Kat in a showdown, where we will finally see who wears the shortest shorts. The question is…who will get to wear the extensions.

  • NOLA

sammy, I agree. I’m glad Melinda went out in 3rd place.
It hurt last night; but she’ll do much better than having
that dumbassed coronation song hanging around her neck like
an Albatross. That is what I fear for Blake, as well.

  • mnsoul

Andrea Bocelli makes more eye contact with the audience than Elliot did last night.

I’m a singer, and eyes closed is a no no. But he did sound flawless.

  • Kirsten

The question isà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦who will get to wear the extensions.

They are both into girl-power so they have reached a compromise.

I hear that they are going to share the extensions. Right side of Kat’s head and left side of Haley’s head.

  • NOLA

I’d much rather see the closed eyes than the dead-eye stare.

  • jpfan

Melinda looked happy to be booted and sounds relieved in the interviews. Going out third will be great for her as winning opens you up to all kinds of criticism, expectations etc. I doubt Kat would say no to Idol if invited. She needs the album boost and they’d be real creeps if she wasn’t on the finale. ELLIOTT CUT YOUR HAIR. It looked like a mop dropped on his head.

  • http://www.myspace.com/mignonette33 purplesmile

sarahinwv: Elliot gave his chest a rest thoughà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ he was always hitting it..

Haha! He was, wasn’t he? lol

That closing his eyes (too tightly) was indeed very distracting. Maybe he was nervous? Also, I agree his hair has grown too long. It makes him look dirty. I think I prefer this look on him…

    http://thumbsnap.com/v/WhebFF1h.jpg

Incidentally, is that the same brown shirt he wore under the vest last night?

(Wait…Is this what you peeps refer to as hand wringing? Yaiks! LOL)

I hope she is not on.

The question isà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦who will get to wear the extensions.

Unless , of course, there is a real cat fight over the hair extensions.

Kirsten, the thought of Chris with a few strands of long hair glued all over his head just made me spit coffee!

I would like Katherine to have performed again also. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Elliot last night. Thus, when Elliott went to blink, his eyelashes were glued together. I think he recovered marvelously, don’t you?

Dean has become a menace. Phil wasn’t actually bald before the season started. I am really bummed about Melinda, but at the same time, I know she is better off losing. She was so great! Her voice knocked me out. She always gave my husband goosebumps whenever she sang.

Taylor has one more week of holding the crown. Canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t believe ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been a year.

The year went by super fast, I agree! Taylor’s probably having a toast right about now (definitely next week when the crown is passed) – hopefully, the disconnect between AI and Taylor will become larger and larger and he can get on with having the kind of career he wants without the AI stigma/comparisons. As far as I’m concerned he handled his reign as AI champ with dignity and class and he did the show proud.

  • kygirl

Dingo, I don’t know if you are a Supernatural fan, but I heard Jeffrey is going to be on the season finale tonight.

It is on CW, at 9:00 PM EST.

  • db

Bwah!! PJ, that picture is hilarious! Blake isn’t that short, but my goodness, his height (or lack thereof) really accentuates Jordin’s Amazonian features. If someone tries throwing Jordin under a bus, I think she might cause damage to the bus. :-|

To those who posted the youtube link to Elliott’s performance last night, thank you. I sat here watching with a big grin on my face. He sang great, and was extremely gracious to the top 3. And two thumbs up for Elliott signing up to be a spokesperson for the National Diabetes Foundation. I just want to give him a hug right now. That being said, he does need a haircut imho.

It’s been less than 24 hours, but I’m now totally ok with Melinda leaving last night. She has a long career ahead of her, me thinks.

If Taylor sings JTFTW on the finale, I will kick a wall.

  • MaryS-NJ

    OMGSQUEE!!!1!!! It’s DINGO!!!

    *Doin’ Snoopy dance of Joy*

    *Ahem*

Hi Dingo. Here’s the thing with Taylor’s CD (yes I know how you feel about it)… Our boy’s got to sell as many as he can so he can make that “Takin’ Dingo ta Church” album.

In order for him to sell it, those peeps who don’t even know it’s out there need to hear it. That means he’s got to sing something off it. I’m thinking something uptempo – not JTFTW. Sounds like he’s moving on the Heaven Knows as a next possible single – but Soul Thing would be my dream because it’s *his*.

FINALE AT AI 6 : I wonder if Jordin and Blake can do a duet like this one at the Season 4 finale :

I’m not sure if Blake is up to the task.

    If not, any suggestions ?

Maybe this song would suit them :

Aw pj, you are tearing me up with your pictures today. I have liked Blake from the beginning, he was my pick behind Lakisha, but damn, after watching him all goofy back home just having fun and being so down to earth, and then those sweet, sweet segments with his dad, I am loving Blake Lewis. He really does look like he is holding back the tears on that one. Win or not, I think Blake will have a good run from the AI exposure and it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.

Go Team Plaid. and I saw this one today..Jordin is fake, Go Team Blake.

Next week, I am dying to hear Taylor sing The Right Place. I love, love, love that song and I think the words would bring the year full circle back to “the right place” where it all began for him.

Even though it appears AI have been jackasses towards Tay, the song would symbolically give a nod to AI AND give proof positive that Taylor is a man of class and distinction.

Go Taylor and Go Team Plaid.I think it would be a hoot if he and Blake do something together, Tay on the mouth harp, Blake beat boxing. Now that would be entertaining as hell.

  • Caffiend

Don’t worry, Melinda. All the best singers finish third. Third is the new first. Love, Elliott

Dingo – I am sooooooooooooooooooooo glad to see you here again!!!!!

I finally got to see Taylor in concert last month and the songs on his CD sound better live and we got an acoustic “The Fall”.

Denny Duquette is hot, I do agree!

Go Team Plaid!! I still wish it was a Melinda/Blake finale but I am feeling better about Melinda today.

  • delta

I got 5th row seats to a Taylor concert in August! It will be my first one. I’m so excited. I’m sick that Melinda went home. I haven’t voted at all this year, but she was the only reason I kept watching. Really nice and talented. It’s nice not to be so invested. If only I wasn’t so invested in DWTS……go Apolo!!!

  • dante

delta – I haven’t voted on DWTS yet, but I love Apolo and think I will have to start next week. It is going to be tough as the final 3 are all so good!

Sexiness a must for today’s lady singers By NEKESA MUMBI MOODY, AP Music Writer
    13 minutes ago

She was an “amazing talent,” a young singer with a wonderful voice who wrote beautiful songs. But she was no beauty, plus flat-chested and overweight to boot.

Remembering the aspiring star, music executive Jody Gerson still feels terrible about thinking: “She’s never going to get signed, even though she’s fabulous.”

Gerson might feel even worse after Wednesday night’s exit of the matronly Melinda Doolittle from “American Idol.” In today’s music industry, Plain Janes need not apply. Sex appeal was once considered a bonus for a woman; now it’s practically a requirement.

Ohmigah, that pic of Kelly C. didn’t even look like her. She bears a strange resemblance to Katherine in that pic. She’s a spunky one and I don’t see cutting edge rocker chick in that pose, which to me is what she is.

I like Elliott’s longer ‘do. A little sloppy but very becoming, it gives him an edge. He is looking fine these days. I loved his confident performance last night….it had to be a validation for him of sorts. Great guy, he seemed so sincere in his advice to the final 3.

I voted for the first time Tuesday night for Melinda. I’m sad she’s out of the competition, but feel like it was for the best. She seems relieved. She has Nashville soul connections, so I don’t doubt her pulling together a great band and recording in a decent studio to get some terrific music out there. She is listed as a friend of Nashville acoustic soul artist Jason Eskridge.
    http://www.myspace.com/jasoneskridge

On Blake, I have to say that his third song Tuesday night (can’t remember the name) impressed me the most. Excellent vocally and musically. It was even, dare I say, a little sexay. He also did a great job on Roxanne. I’d never noticed what a great tone of voice he has.

    So, go Blake!

Kelly’s album cover is very cutting edge. I actually like the collage-y feel to it. There’s also a romantic feel but the songs behind that cover are all angry and about long gone wrong. ? (bipolar graphic artist?)

Does it look like her? Not much and the long dress hides what some reporter said — terminal thunder thighs.

Dingo, you said it better than I could. The freshman effort was put together very quickly. Can’t wait til he’s had time to reflect and recharge and get a CD out that showcases the TH we all know and love. And hopefully with that band – dayum! I would like to hear a few more horn layers…didn’t hear much ‘brass with ass’ on the first CD.

Sorry if I don’t jump on the JTFTW hate bandwagon, but I’ve never been the person to dislike something just because everyone else does. In saying that, after watching Taylor perform Soul Thing on Leno, I would much prefer him release a version similiar to that performance that Heaven Knows. I think as a song-writer, you always want your music heard. So I’m sure Taylor would not be disappointed if Heaven Knows was replaced with Soul Thing as his next release.

You’re right, she did put back on some weight.

I remembered reading somewhere, don’t know how truthful it was, that when she first tried breaking into the industry, she pasted on a record deal because they wanted her to lose weight. Unfortunately, she is in a business where looks is just as important as, if not more than, talent..

  • shar

I have never been a big Kellie Clarkson fan. I missed season one so I knew her only from some of the pop music my niece plays. I saw her on Idol gives back and was blown away by her voice. I honestly thought she looked adorable, kind of Janis Joplin vibes, that retro 60′s look. Obviously she is much prettier than Janis, but her voice was so freakin’ amazing to me she could have looked like Mama Cass for all I cared.Kind of like the first time I heard Taylor sing A Change is Gonna Come. The fact that he was a cutie only added to the appeal.

I think Kellie could play Janis Joplin in a movie and I would love to see it happen for her.I did hear somewhere that one is in the works.

Jordin is still going through that awkward stage where a little girls becomes a young lady. I think it’s called pubity. Her looks are very beautiful but she hasn’t finishing grown into them as yet. Look at Diana Degarmo. She was the same way when she was on the show. She was a cute little girl who was still growing into her looks. Now she is beautiful young lady.

I don’t hate JTFTW at all. I like the CD version a lot, and it’s been ok everytime I’ve seen it in person. But I haven’t liked it any time he’s done it on TV yet, I think it is a hard song to sing, and from what I’ve seen both in person and from TV performances, he doesn’t sing it well consistently. That’s the only reason I’d like to see him do something else for Idol next week.

Season 6: I just really honestly wish I cared lol. No snark intended. While I guess it’s a relief to not be invested in anyone this year really, I miss… looking forward to the show and really enjoying it for both the cheese and the good performances. I still watched because I kept waiting for a moment to suck me in, but now we’re at the finale and it never happened. I do think I want Blake to win, just because of the heavy handed Jordin pimpage. Many of us have daughters who are teens, 17! — .

I don’t think that our daughters have gone through what Jordin has — away from home for half a year, still trying to finish school plus be available 18 hours a day for AI and all that goes with it. You can’t have a bad day, be in a bad mood, take a day off, sleep in or eat out!

On Blake, I have to say that his third song Tuesday night (canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t remember the name) impressed me the most. Excellent vocally and musically. It was even, dare I say, a little sexay. He also did a great job on Roxanne. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d never noticed what a great tone of voice he has.

Aww, no one listens to me. I’ve been saying that he has a great tone for awhile now.

I also have to say that “When I Get You Alone” was sexay. ;) And rhythmically very challenging…. not an easy song to sing at all. I doubt Jordin could have pulled it off.

I think it’s overlooked on AI that singers have different strengths. To say Jordin is better singer than Blake is short sighted.

I have nothing against her, though. I don’t even care that she’s been pimped. I’ll still be voting Blake all the way. :-)

I wasn’t really harshing on Jordin for being snippy this week. She’s human, not a just a product now matter how hard AI tries to turn her into one. I’m only 26, I haven’t forgotten in the slightest what I was like at 17, and I probably would have told Simon to shove it long ago. :innocent1_tb: I haven’t even voted this year, so it’s not like I was turned into a non-fan of Jordin because of anything she said this week. But the fact is millions of people are judging everything these kids say and do every week, and being snippy with the judges has gotten contestants into trouble in the past. Is it fair? Probably not. Did it hurt Jordin at all this week? Probably not, as she will get to sing about puppies and rainbows and all your dreams coming true this week. :smile_wp:

That’s funny. Ricky said that this week, the vote was so close, they seriously considered bouncing Blake. But in the end, decided to go with the actual lowest vote getter, Melinda.

If Ricky is to be believed, I guess TPTB didn’t want Blake that badly after all.

  • Sagie

ah okay, Sorry about that Xo, I thought it was you in chat the other night screaming I’m right, I’m right, I told you so and on and on about the show being rigged for Blake and Melinda.

And Ricky seems to know a bit I agree but many of his details seem pretty much guesses or flat out wrong.

  • Tony

I would have “rigged” Blake out WEEKS ago.

  • xoxoyc

MJ: I think that post from Ricky about the vote being so close they almost sent blake home instead was proven to not be from Ricky. Ricky hasn’t posted at IDF or his blog for several weeks- it was someone else posting claiming they had seen Ricky post it at another board.

Sagie: From the looks of the final 3 performance show it was definitely set up to favor Blake and Melinda. And as for Blake being TCO- I’ll guess we’ll find out on Wednesday next week if I was right or not.

  • Sagie

I honestly think Jordin has been the one being pimped left and right, she is the chosen one. I don’t think we can say that if Blake wins that he was chosen one. We look at the whole season and watch it week to week and then it becomes very obvious.

TPTNB want us to forgive every “pitchy” moment from Jordin because :gasp!: she is only 17!

  • pj

XO, if you look at the pimp spots and performance orders this year, Blake is not TCO. He’s had the pimp spot once. Not just once in the top 12. Once over all.

Kirsten has been kind enough to provide detailed performance order stats, including kiss of death spot, pimp spot, first half, etc. Jordin has clearly been pimped, bless her heart.

If Blake wins, it doesn’t prove he’s TCO. It proves he had the most votes. That is all.

Do you think TCO always wins? *coughTaylorcough*

    Explain this logic?

Plus, I personally don’t care if someone is TCO or not. I vote for the one who appeals to me.

  • xoxoyc

It was rumored earlier in the season that TPTB wanted the winner this year to be a “dark horse” not someone who seemed to be leading all along. They wanted a Kelly Clarkson type story- if that is true. Blake would fit that profile.

PJ: I also don’t care about someone being TCO. I haven’t voted this season and I don’t really care who wins. I usually support the contestant who is NOT TCO. LOL

  • pj

Oh, and I think Ricky said that stuff about Blake earlier on b/c he wanted Chris R to stay in the game. He had a source giving him song selections, but that even stalled towards the end. Vote totals and TPTB motives are NOT something most workers on AI have access to… so I hardly think that’s a valid point.

  • WVIdolFan

In ref. to Kelly C weight, she said on Ellen’s show that when shes on tour she typically loses 15 lbs and she starts touring in July.

  • WVIdolFan

I like the cd cover. It is kinda like Gone With the Wind, but actually reminds me more of a harlequin romance cover.

Kelly’s CD cover is creepy. I hate it. I hope that Kat is on next week’s finale. She was runnerup, and, deserves to be there. Although, I’m not a huge fan, I like Kat, and, think s he is one beautiful girl. Her voice is better than the crappy CD she made. I sure hope that Chris and Taylor aren’t on the AI the same night next week. The media will have a field day with it. They already have. And, for the record, success isn’t measured in numbers of CDs sold. Even though Kat’s numbers aren’t stellar, one can’t argue with her beautiful face adorning the mags. She is a success in t hat area. Elliott looked like he was auditioning for a remake of Teen Wolf with that hairdo last night. Goodness!!

Kat in NY — I didn’t direct my post re: giving Jordin a break to anyonoe specific so please don’t think that I was going after you, cause I wasn’t !

Getting snippy with the judges — Kat got snippy with the judges, Taylor got snippy with the judges albiet with a smirk on his face, but still…. Chris D rolled his eyes and tried to hide his snarl, Blake apaprently is seasoned enough to break the rules and get snippy when the camera’s are off. More power to him.

I just think that Jordin is getting a bad rap — it’s not her fault that the viewing public thinks she’s TCO but put the blame where it lies – on TPTB. What is happening is the viewing public are taking it out on Jordin and voting against her for that. Wrong!

Skylight, Kelly’s CD cover is very current, stylish, thought provoking and actually very tame compared to Kat’s Open Legs “come and get it” stance. All kat has for sale is herself and rather than chose to sell her talent, she’s selling her looks and it appears you’re ready to buy. Hope you have a platinum AMEX.

Even though Katà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s numbers arenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t stellar, one canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t argue with her beautiful face adorning the mags

So, like, uh, when she sings it comes outta her mouth and her mouth is attached to her, like, beautiful face and her beautiful face, like, is singing and by, like transference, her beautiful face makes her voice beautiful ? Kinda like the hip bone is connected to the ham bone?

    ack.

Blake is snippy when the camera’s are off? Do tell!

I know he breaks curfew and doesn’t care about that, but snippy? I wanna know. :)

Blake has a great machine going for him. He has great friends. I somehow doubt it’s his design. But if so, good for him.

Jordin being TCO is not what turned me off to her..However the little incident of her pretending to cry when she realized the cameras were on her, when before she was grinning from ear to ear like a cheshire cat, DID…

Fantasia is a hit on Broadway. I have read at least 4 reviews of her performance a Celie in the Color Purple and they have all been overwhelmingly great. If you get the NY POST yesterday, they not only gushed over her singing, but her acting as well. Her sophomore CD might not be making platinum, but so what ? She’s rakin’ in the big bucks on Broadway. Here is today’s review in the New York Newsday :

It’s no fantasy, Fantasia is the real thing
    BY LINDA WINER

This is no casting gimmick. Fantasia Barrino – high-school dropout in ninth grade, single mother at 17, “American Idol” winner in 2004 – makes a phenomenal stage debut as Celie in “The Color Purple.”

Much as fellow “Idol” discovery Jennifer Hudson swept into the Oscar books as Effie in “Dreamgirls,” the 22-year-old known as Fantasia steps confidently into the demanding role in which LaChanze won last year’s Tony Award. With a startling mixture of subtle delicacy and raw power, she dares us to take our eyes off her.

“The Color Purple” is not merely Fantasia’s first musical. This is the first musical the self-described “little country girl” from North Carolina ever saw. She caught Broadway’s first big black-supported and black-attended hit after the producers (Oprah Winfrey, we assume) recently offered her the role without an audition.
