Watch sneak peek of The Voice hopeful, Judith Hill perform a soulful, solid cover of Christina Auguilera’s “What a Girl Wants.”

In the battle to win her affection Adam Levine declares that she sang the tune as well as Christina! OOPS. All four coaches turn around for her, but newbie, Usher, was first. “You put your own thing in it, he said, swearing to help her win the world over if she chooses him. Fellow newbie, Shakira declares, “I feel I’m in front of a star.”

Season 4 of The Voice premieres on NBC, Monday, March 25 8/7c NBC.

If this was idol, most of the people praising here would say the judges overpraised and she was mediocre.

But why should she only have 15 minutes? Sheryl Crow was on Michael Jackson’s Bad tour and it launched her career. I’m actually kind of sad that she has to do this show to get recognized.

Old Beatles songs? Who cares if they are old songs? They have a great catalog and are considered one of the greatest bands of all time. Newer doesn’t mean better.

I think Nigel tried, MJ. In the early taping of the auditions, he tweeted a lot about the judges’ alleged chemistry. A bit of wishful thinking, it seems.

Eh, I don’t know. FOX more than ever have their hands mudding up Idol. They see the show losing ratings, and it’s their biggest money maker, so they’ll find ways to keep it being a bigger money maker than The Voice. I think Nigel lost some of control in the casting department this season.

Exactly. There is no better music, then or now, than The Beatles catalog – and that catalog will outlive 99.99999% of music that came before and that came after. The Beatles rule. Period.

And just because they are one of the greatest bands ever, don’t mean we need to have another week dedicated to him. The same can be said about Whitney, Stevie Wonder, Elton John and Elvis.

AI messed up this year with the judges for sure. There was chemistry with Steven and JLO & Randy, and Randy seemed very comfortable with those two; but the public kept saying they were too soft, the public was out for blood and the producers didn’t want them back, instead going for “youngish” judges like Minaj. The DWTS judges have chemistry that’s why it workers. Bruno is crazy!
Now if AI continues beyond this season will have to find that judging chemistry again. I think the last two seasons the judges found the BEST singers who became STARS (Scotty and P2), regardless of what the producers wanted. The show is about FINDING STARS, regardless of their gender.
And does anybody notice that Jimmy IO has taken a back seat and just asks the question, “What are you singing?” and he’s not in the studio with the singer to critique them? What the F???? Bring the old Jimmy IO BACK!
I would like to see a FEMALE singer win, but if a boy is a better talent, then I’m for that.

    Some, but not all.

I love the Beatles but honestly Idol needs to severely limit the old music. The Voice features oldies too but very sparingly – this is how it should be – 80% current music and 20% oldies, on Idol it’s the opposite. Besides Idol wouldn’t think of featuring their more obscure and interesting songs.

  • blackberryharvest

Actually, besides this week and last week, there have been way more contemporary songs this year(2000 onward).

Its looking more 50-50 to me this year.

She sounds very Contemporary R&B. More than anyone on Idol right now. But I don’t know if her age would be a problem to market her.

DItto. Of course, I was a fan of Shakira and Usher before. So that’s bonus for me. But both of them are witty, intelligent, and have the musical chops.

  • Miz

Definitely agree with this. It is the judges on Idol that bring it down. They went in the right direction with Keith. But the others? Not so much.

Best part about it, is that we are getting a break from the Adam/Christina snipping at each other. I can’t stand that, whether it’s happening on Idol, X-Factor or The Voice. Can’t say I miss Cee-lo not being on there, Usher is so much better, plus nice eyecandy.

I think we have to remember that the way these Voice judges come across as opposed to *any* Idol judge is partially due to their role on the show. On The Voice, the judges *are* the show, they are in the competition and encouraged to ham it up and play off of each other. On Idol, the judges are “supposedly” not the stars. Once the competition hits the semis, they take much more of a back seat and even in the audition rounds they “share the stage” with bad auditions, goofy contestants and break out voices. How often do Idol judges get criticized by the very people on these message boards and blogs for self-promotion, hogging up airtime and making it all about them?! And yet they are criticized in comparison to The Voice judges who are encouraged to do that exact thing, which makes them seem much more dynamic and interesting. Let’s also remember that the judges take the forefront of The Voice at the expense of the contestants. That’s why it’s probably a good thing that many of the contestants on this show are already seasoned professionals and so it’s not like the judges are robbing them of their only chance at the spotlight. They’ve been scouted and invited by the producers and this hasn’t been their first rodeo. This show is just so much more of a game show with the judges playing the contestants and the “contestants” merely the pawns on the chess board. With Idol, you are getting a modern day talent search contest, so you really can’t push the contestants to the background and let the judges to steal their limelight.

If she had Michael Jackson exposure and nothing came out of it, what is going to work this time? But I guess if at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try again…
