NBC’s The Voice has assembled an all-star cast of mentors for Season 2 that includes: Lionel Richie, Kelly Clarkson, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Jewel, Miranda Lambert, Alanis Morissette, Ne-Yo and Robin Thicke.  The group will work as advisers to the coaches during the battle rounds.

Each of the four coaches will work with a pair of advisers:

  • Blake Shelton: Kelly Clarkson and wife Miranda Lambert
  • Adam Levine: Alanis Morissette and Robin Thicke
  • Christina Aguilera: Jewel and Lionel Richie
  • Cee Lo Green: Babyface and Ne -Yo

“These renowned musicians will bring their unique and recognizable musical styles to the teams,” said Paul Telegdy, NBC president of late night and alternative programming. “They are well-respected singers whose invaluable experience will be a tremendous asset to Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton’s artists.”

The Voice premiers Sunday, Feb. 5 at 10 p.m, after the Superbowl and returns to its regular timeslot on Monday February 6 at 8 pm.

So, what do you think of the picks? Besides Kelly Clarkson, there are really no surprises in this bunch. Jewel is a reality show veteran at this point, appearing on Idol, Nashville Star and more.   Ne-Yo could be an interesting addition.  Ditto Robin Thicke–I have no sense of what his personality is like.  Miranda Lambert was a no-brainer, and was going to happen sooner or later.

What do you think of the picks?

blake shelton’s probably got the best duo… he’s got two really talented reality show vets. plus i love kelly and miranda, so i’m probably gonna be #teamblake again.

In less than 2 years Alanis had appeared on Idol, X Factor and The Voice. She’s also a veteran at this point.

To me it looks like the teams represent the four major genres of music:
    Blake: Country
    Adam: Alt/rock
    Christina: Pop
    Cee-Lo: R&B

  • fuzzywuzzy

I think that Christina has the weakest advisors in terms of artists who are current and still very successful.

  • koshka

After Adam’s last round in music… he’ll never  Alt/rock to me again.

ETA: perhaps you are speaking of the mentor line up…in which case forget about what I said.

  • koshka

Meh… I like 2 groups and think the other 2 would have been better off finding some other current artists looking to get more exposure.

Looks like I’ll be Team Adam again this season. Would have liked to see Alanis as a mentor when Rebecca Loebe tried out.

Wow, Robin Thicke?  Wasn’t expecting an R&B guy to hook up with Levine.  That might actually be somewhat interesting.

If Steve on X-Factor was speaking the truth, Alanis is working on an album to be released in 2012.   I don’t know when “The Voice” is scheduled to end this season, but it is possible she will drop a single while the show is on the air.  It’s a good way to get exposure in that way.  I love Alanis, and think she will make a good mentor if Adam has some singer/songwriter types on his team.

I recently heard Robin Thicke interviewed on NPR and he seems like an interesting guy and very knowledgeable about music and Ne-Yo is one of my favorites.  All around a good group and hopefully we will get to see them work some magic on the show.

Yikes, Christina’s advisors are really dated. She’s not doing a whole lot to make herself seem more relevant. She is danger of being the only one of the judges who doesn’t have a vital career.

Ok question, remember when the official Voice twitter tweeted that the females were freaking out over Blake’s advisory? Who was that then? Or was that something different?

I think Blaker, Adam and Cee Lo have great picks. I expect Christina to be the worst mentor again.

Can’t wait to see Kelly, Alanis and Jewel on The Voice.

She’s performed with finalists, but has she mentored or judged?  Jewel practically has a part time job judging reality show competitions. She guest judged on Idol, judged Nashville Star, and was host and judge on Kara’s songwriting show, “Platinum Hit”. She’s also participated in a couple of reality shows and was guest host on the WWE.

That was probably Kelly Clarkson.  Maybe even his wife.  They could’ve freaked out over both of them.

Lionel Richie is a legend.  Jewel has a pretty decent career going for herself in country.  And you shouldn’t be worrying about Christina’s career.  She’s going to be fine.

Lionnel Ritchie did a good job on Idol.  He can be brutally honest but knows the music business.  In fact, I thought Idol would hire him to replace Randy; however, Simon Cowell didn’t like him.  He also did great at the Kennedy Honors (for Neil Diamond).

Christina needs help really bad.  This pairing with Jewel may be a surprise.  I believe each pairing should be male/female for a balance.

Here’s a little promo video where they’re talking to all the advisers.

Lionel replacing Randy would be a dream come true. *sigh*

  • milwlovesadam

Lionel Richie should be very good. He’s a seasoned professional. And yes, I thought he was wonderful at the Kennedy Center Honors too.

Lionel Richie is a legend.  Nobody else can say that except for maybe Cee-Lo because he has Babyface.

Well, this group of mentors is better than last year’s. I actually like this show. Hopefully, they’ve found their balance and will produce a better show than last season’s. I still remember the dregs of Idol S1. In retrospect, other than Kelly Clarkson, that season sucked.
