The LIVE SHOWS begin tonight on The Voice! The Top 16 will battle it out for YOUR VOTES  in a two part performance show.

America will choose two of the team members, the mentor will choose one.

On Wednesday, the Top 12 will be revealed! Sir Mac will be hosting that Live blog, by the way, while I handle American Idol.

Ahhhh! So happy all that knock out battling stuff was done. I was soooo bored by the end. Tonight was a big improvement. Less contrived, scripted, coaches ramble, and MORE SINGING.

The best performances tonight go to, in order of my preference,  Michelle Chamuel’s “True Colors”,  Amber Carrington’s  “Stay” and Judith Hill’s “Feeling Good.”

Michelle has become my favorite. She’s quirky without being affected. She’s utterly unique, but in a completely organic way. There isn’t an inauthentic bone in her body. She completely inhabits the song that she sings. She’s a true performer and a GEM. Love her.

Amber is more than just a big voice. She’s versatile and can phrase as song in a way that makes it totally her own.  She makes intelligent, well thought out choice in the way she chooses those phrases. I hope Adam keeps choosing unexpected and interesting songs for her to sing.

I rolled my eyes when I learned Judith would be singing “Feeling Good” but her take on the song was refreshing. And who knew that was possible at this point, with so many covers of the classic song floating around? Judith crafts beautiful performances.

Usher is a contradiction. How are his song picks so boring while his coaching is so imaginative?  Choosing the over-sung “I Have Nothing” for Cathia and the lethal “Against All Odds” leads me to believe that they aren’t his favorite team members. “Starlight” is an interesting song to pick, but not for Josiah. That tune was WAY too big for him. But if Usher takes Josiah under his wing, he’ll be lip syncing and playing fake pianos just like Justin Beiber, so I suppose it doesn’t matter.  Poor Cathia. What a dog of a song. She’s never been comfortable outside of her native Spanish. I suspect she’ll be going home on Wednesday.  But Usher is just GOOD TV with his boxing exercises and encouraging Michelle to sing to herself in the mirror. Genius stuff.

On Team Adam, Amber and Judith are pretty safe, I’d say. It’s either Sarah or Caroline going home and it will probably come down to which Adam is willing to save.  I’d send Caroline home. She’s the most inconsistent and unformed of the 4 women on his team.

Team Adam and Team Usher take the stage tonight.  Tonight’s performances will be STRIPPED DOWN, so we can concentrate on the voice.

Team Usher gets ready for their group number at a boxing studio. A real one–not the fake one constructed in The Voice studio. The contestants are sparring with Usher to prepare for their performance of “Black and Gold” by Sam Sparrow.  He’s got them singing, breathing and exercising at the same time.   And then they perform. Josiah continues to be a horrible singer, and Michele continues to be awesome! The performance is a easy-listening-lite, but it’s not too shabby.

Amber CarringtonTeam Adam – “Stay” by Rihanna –  Adam sees Amber infusing country into whatever she does.  Amber says “Stay” is very different from anything she’s ever done. Amber is mainly a country singer, but she  has that Carrie Underwood-like big voice, that allows her to cross genres.  The performance is beautiful and nuanced.  This gal has a major set of pipes. Wow. Adam gives her a standing ovation. Blake thinks she set the bar really high. Usher calls it a remarkable performance. Shakira thinks she has something really special to offer. Adam notes that he was the only coach to turn around for her. “You had me for every second of that performance,” he says. - 1-877-553-3701 or Sprint text 1 to  8642 or Download the song from iTunes

Christina Milian REALLY GETS ON MY NERVES. Just had to say that.

Josiah Hawley –  “Starlight” by Muse  - Team Usher – Usher has helped him approach the music differently, says Josiah. Usher made a “few calls” to clear this song. Josiah’s rehearsal doesn’t sound good. And he’s right, it is about breath control. AND hitting those notes. I thought these performances were supposed to be stripped down? Josiah has a full rock band behind him and he’s playing electric guitar.  He’s a limited vocalist. The beauty of this song is that soaring falsetto. But he’s shouty on the top notes, and just under the pitch.  He fares better in his midrange. Usher gives HIS guy a standing o. “You rocked it.” says Sharkira. She dubs it his best performance. It was honest, she says. Adam thought Usher did a great job mentoring Josiah. Blake thought it was haunting and energetic. “The world is going to lose a male model. I guess I’m going to have to step in,” says Blake.  Ha. Ha. Usher compliments him for taking his notes. “It was the opportunity to see the incredible heart throb that you are.”  - 1-877-553-3702 or Sprint text 2 to  8642 or Download the song from iTunes

Sarah SimmonsTeam Adam – “Angel” by Sara McLaughlin – It’s always been Sarah’s go to song to sing. She’s going to dedicate it to a friend who died in a tragic accident. Adam tells her to hit the notes with elegance and purpose. She’s already crying in rehearsal. There’s some pitchy stuff here, but does it matter? Her performance is dripping with emotion. She swings effortlessly from a sweet, clear tone, to raspy urgency. A perfect song choice for her! She slides around the notes with ease. Blake calls it amazing, beautiful, angelic. Usher said the Sarah that he knew eventually came out. Shakira lapses into Spanish, she’s so excited. She felt the connection to the song, and that’s all she cares about. Adam has never heard the room so quiet. “You are one of the most incredible singers to listen to I’ve ever heard,” he says. - 1-877-553-3703 or Sprint text 3 to  8642 or Download the song from iTunes

Samantha Guthrie and Al Roker from The Today Show are pimping their big summer concert series and tomorrow, it will be a THE VOICE EXTRAVAGANZA.

Cathia – Team Usher – “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston – REALLY USHER?  “Think of the song as a waltz,” says Usher who gets up to waltz with her! Interesting. Still, this song has been covered EVERYWHERE. I’m kinda tired of it. She doesn’t possess the pure vocal power to make the performance work. Her cover comes off as competent karaoke. It’s not a song that’s going to separate her from the pack.  Shakira is still rooting for her, even though she’s not on her team anymore. She disagrees with the song choice. Whitney is setting the bar too high for Cathia. I agree. Was Blake daydreaming through that performance?  It’s like Carson woke him up. He mumbles something about pop music and how it sounded OK to him. Usher believes in her talent, and that she could have knocked it out of the par, but it admits maybe it wasn’t the best. - 1-877-553-3704 or Sprint text 4 to  8642 or Download the song from iTunes

Christina Milian is with Team Adam blah blah blah blah. It’s Judith Hill’s Birthday.

Adam Levine and Usher duet on “Superstition.” ANOTHER SONG I NEVER WANT TO HEAR ON MY TV AGAIN. Adam plays guitar, they stand side by side and trade off lyrics. There’s some bizarre Rorschach test going on behind them on the screen. Eh.

Caroline GlaserTeam Adam – “The A Team’ By Ed Sheeran – She withdrew from college for this opportunity. The challenge is to find a big moment in the song, since she is NOT a powerhouse singer. A PERFECT song choice for Caroline, who has often gotten lost among the powerhouse voiced in this competition. Her quirky style is highlighted as well as it can be here. She has no big moments, but I can’t see that she ever will. She needs to use her tone and unique phrasing to impress. Blake loved it, even though he doesn’t know the song. Usher calls it “soothing.” Admires her control. Thinks America will vote for her. Adam says she captured out attention, and that’s what matters. 1-877-553-3705 or Sprint text 5 to  8642 or Download the song from iTunes

Vedo – “Against All Odds” by Phil Collins.- Seriously Usher. ARE YOU KIDDING?  Usher is a gifted, uncoventional coach. But these songs he’s choosing for his team? THEY SUCK. I don’t understand why Usher didn’t give him a contemporary R&B song? This treacly Phil Collins song  is doing Vedo no favors. I haven’t heard this song sung well on a singing competition yet, and this is no exception. Vedo is stuck up in his upper register, mostly, where he sounds really unpleasant. Shakira says “the audience loved you.” and leaves it at that. Adam wishes he was on his team. “You did an amazing job.” Usher babbles some nonsense. He 100% liked it. I guess. 1-877-553-3706 or Sprint text 6 to  8642 or Download the song from iTunes

Adam Levine’s family owns a clothing store? He’s helping his team with some outfits in a fillerific video package. The Team Adam girls sing “Shake It Out” by Florence + The Machine. Solid.

Michelle ChamuelTeam Usher – “True Colors” by Cyndi Lauper – Michelle cries describing the meaning of the song. The lyrics hit close to home. Usher has her sing to herself in the mirror. He wants the idea of the song to sink in for her. She pulls out her earpiece. Is she having an issue? She sings in a vulnerable, breaking voice, holding back the power. It’s effective.  In the second verse she brings more force. I’m feeling this. This girl is something special. She doesn’t have a technically beautiful voice, but she uses it as a true instrument. She knows how to inhabit a song, bring it to life. Shakira says she revealed her true, authentic colors. Adam feels like she had a break out moment. Blake points to his team, “That’s the thing to do.”  Usher also feels it was a break out moment. She listens to her instincts, he says. 1-877-553-3707 or Sprint text 7 to  8642 or Download the song from iTunes

Judith HillTeam Adam – “Feeling Good” – She’s got the pimp spot. No surprise there. “Feeling Good” is another one of those over sung songs forever popping up on talent competitions. I’m sure she’ll kill it. But still. Adam is attempting to minimize her front runner status. Too late! Her styling pays homage to her Japanese side. She looks beautiful. The arrangement is changed up enough, she’s making it her own. Her adlibs are jazzy, off the beat. This is pretty amazing. She finishes with a giant note. She’s so going to make the final. Blake calls her a “freaking Diva” but in the best possible way, of course! “Man, why didn’t I fight harder!”says Usher. Adam loved the way she played with the audience. Cool is the only word he can think of. 1-877-553-3708 or Sprint text 8 to  8642 or Download the song from iTunes

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

The live shows have always been my favorite part. So excited for tonight!

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

I really like how the judges are so involved with their contestants.

  • H.A.

    A Sam Sparro jam!!

  • bridgette12

Usher’s group is doing a good job on harmonies, but I don’t like that song for this group of singers.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Usher’s team isn’t very strong, generally.

  • LeoCS

I can’t remember anyone from Usher’s team. Just the girl with glasses.

  • bridgette12

I rank them last among the four teams.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

I think his best shot is with Josiah. He doesn’t have the best voice but his looks will make up for that given how the industry works.

  • http://twitter.com/happylittlefish Amy Beth

Honestly, I ‘d watch an entire show of Usher interacting with his team (or any random singers).

  • H.A.

That’s how you sing Stay. Beautiful.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Amber is singing well. I’m enjoying her performance.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

I really like Amber’s take on Stay.

  • LeoCS

She’s really good. I think Adam’s team doesn’t have a single mediocre singer.

  • bridgette12

Amber is doing a great job, glad that the performances are going to be stripped down.

  • http://www.jmsporthorse.com naturallivng

For those of us new to The Voice, does voting start tonight And tomorrow, then 4 lowest vote getters get eliminated on Wednesday?

  • EB

    Amber’s vocal was really beautiful.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Very nice way to start the live shows. Amber was impressive.

  • LeoCS

2 top vote getters from each team go to the next round. The judges save one from their team. Then, after top 12, the 2 lowest vote getters (from all the teams) are eliminated each week.

  • irockhard

I disagree, his team is hands down the most marketable.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I’m not sure how long the voting period is for these rounds, but as I recall, it’s a lot longer than the 2 hours post-show that Idol allows for voting. I missed the start of the show, so I’m waiting for Carson to summarize the voting sometime during the show.

  • http://twitter.com/happylittlefish Amy Beth

For this week only, the voting is within the team. Top 2 of 4 get voted in, the coach gets to choose 1 from the bottom 2. That will give us a Top 12 of 3 from each team.

  • Jordana33

VEDO and Cathia are technically very good singers, but people don’t seem interested in them.

  • Jordana33

Amber always gives these perfect performances, but for some reason, I tend to forget about her because Adam’s team is so strong.

  • Jordana33

Ughhh Josiah! The only thing that can help him is a guitar.

  • ht23

LOL at Idol alums being featured on the live tweets.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Josiah is nice to look at, but vocally he’s pitchy and weak.

ETA: Make that VERY pitchy and weak. lol

  • bridgette12

I don’t think Starlight is the right song for Josiah, he don’t have the range.

  • H.A.

I missed that. What did the tweets say.

  • H.A.

    OMG. Muse.

  • bridgette12

    bad song choice

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

I enjoyed Josiah as well. Muse is a good choice for him. Idol can learn from The Voice when it comes to choosing songs.

  • bridgette12

    Is Shakira deaf, it stunk.

  • Nedsdag

Wow, Muse! You’ll never hear Muse on AI. He did a decent job with it for a WGWG.

  • http://www.facebook.com/aleeatorio Alexandre Oliveira

Wow, that was really good, Amber

  • H.A.

Adam Lambert performed this on the AI tour and he killed it. Adam has range though.

  • sweetmm

He’s not great but good enough to enjoy and delicious enough to look at :)

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

Um… didn’t James Durbin do Muse during his run? Or I’m missing something? :/

  • EB

Didn’t like that song for Josiah at all, but he did alright.

  • bridgette12

Maybe Josiah sounded better in the studio, then he did on tv.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I agree. Josiah doesn’t have the vocal ability to sing this song. I think that it’s a difficult song to sing.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Dj532 Derrick Johnson

James Durbin from season 10 of Idol Actually performed Uprising by muse

  • LeoCS

it was weak and the judges are almost complimenting him on the same level they complimented Amber.

  • ht23

The tweets I saw were from Melinda Doolittle and Kristy Lee Cook, both praising Amber’s performance.

  • bridgette12

That’s what surprised me, because he wasn’t good at all.

  • EB

Adam did a great rendition of it!

  • http://twitter.com/tle2000 Taylor

I think judges are overpraising Team Usher since he has the weakest team. Probably trying to compensate so that Usher won’t be eliminated a full month before the finale (similar to Xtina last year).

  • matt89

Joshiah, so bad. just a pretty face

  • http://twitter.com/Lutrell4 Ira

Will Amber’s brilliant vocals be trumped by the easily more marketable Josiah (WGWG)?

  • YankeeFan08

Amber did a great job. Wish I could say the same for Josiah, but that was not good. He is a cutie though so there’s that.

  • http://www.facebook.com/aleeatorio Alexandre Oliveira

    That wasn’t good

  • Jordana33

The judges are picking good songs so far, although i’m not sure Starlight was the right song for someone like Josiah. I’m excited to hear someone sing Sarah McLachlan…as long as it’s not Angel!

  • matt89

At least we can cleanse ourselves of Josiah with Sarah

  • bridgette12

Please don’t let them dress Sara in one of those tents she’s been wearing lately.

  • Jordana33

Do people realize that Sarah M. sings a lot of other songs????

  • fuzzywuzzy

I love this song, but I’m not enjoying Sara’s rendition.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

I agree. I hate how this song is always the one that is chosen. It’s a good song, but they should pick a different Sarah M. song for once. I would like for someone to chose her song “Answer”.

  • sweetmm

Wow Sarah did not perform at par tonight :( maybe trying too hard. This song needs sweet and simple approach.

  • bridgette12

    I don’t think so.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I know! Sarah M. is one of my favorite artists and has a long list of great songs. lol

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

    I really enjoyed Sara.

  • H.A.

Wow Sarah. So much talent on The Voice. Even Josiah wasn’t so bad. WGWG don’t need to sing well they just need to look good.

  • http://twitter.com/happylittlefish Amy Beth

This is my least favorite of Sarah’s performances so far. Nerves?

  • bridgette12

Surprisingly, I’m not either. She oversang.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Yes, I agree. She was pitchy in parts and she growled at inappropriate times during the song.

  • http://www.facebook.com/tricia.miner.1 Katelyn Garrett

She sounds horrible and very time I hear this song I think of all the poor homeless pets. Fortunately for them it’s sung much better in the commercial

  • http://twitter.com/Lutrell4 Ira

Is Sarah being dressed by the crew from Spartacus?

  • Nedsdag

Sarah was good, but she didn’t bring anything different to the song. Nevertheless, she’ll be in the Top 12.

  • http://www.facebook.com/aleeatorio Alexandre Oliveira

    Wow Sarah, not good.

  • Nedsdag

The AI tour and AI are two different things.

  • fuzzywuzzy

This is the second week in a row that I haven’t enjoyed Sarah. I think that she may be overrated.

  • matt89

That was tough. Like Sarah, also just lost a friend in a car accident little over a month ago

  • EB

Sarah.. so-so. Could have been a lot better.

  • EB

He did! But I don’t remember which song.

  • http://twitter.com/Lutrell4 Ira

I might be in the minority, but I’ve heard Sarah do better.

  • http://www.facebook.com/aleeatorio Alexandre Oliveira

Sarah has a tremendous instrument but idk, didn’t work out for me this week

  • Connie Stamley

Actually James Durban sang a muse song and Matt Bellamy was in the audience.

  • bridgette12

I’m with you on this, she’s been off the last two performances.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

Really? Idol already played out Whitney. You are better than this The Voice.

  • YankeeFan08

Didn’t enjoy Sarah. Lots of bum notes there.

  • matt89

Cathia doing Whitney Houston? This should be laughable

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

She’s totally overrated. I never thought she was that great to be honest. Something about her vocally kind of bugs me.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Last week’s performance wasn’t very good either. She’s not getting better, she’s getting worse, IMO.

  • http://www.facebook.com/aleeatorio Alexandre Oliveira

Somebody ban Whitney songs from talent shows

  • Jordana33

I guess they fired the “Jesus Christ Superstar” crew that dressed her last week.

  • chillj

Too many runs. I liked when her voice roughened up a bit, but she gets tiresome really fast, with all the vocal frou- frou. I need part of the melody sung straight.

  • Jordana33

I thought Sarah did a good job, but I’m just tired of people selecting that song to perform.

  • chillj

I knew she was from the wardrobe room of a movie; thanks for identifying it.

  • LeoCS

    f…not this song again…

  • bridgette12

Cathia singing Whitney is a mistake.

  • matt89

Oh no, “I Have Nothing”? This could be really bad

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

I want her to go home for the song choice alone.

  • bridgette12

All Cathia need is a sash and tiara and it would fit this pageant performance.

  • chillj

She did a very true and sensitive job.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I don’t think that Usher is choosing appropriate songs for his contestants. Adam is batting 0.500. Good choice for Amber, not good for Sarah.

  • matt89

should be a cakewalk for Vedo and Michelle to make the top 12 for Team Usher

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

Ok, Cathia has a great voice, but the song choice isn’t doing it. I also don’t think it will get her votes.

  • bridgette12

He’s not helping his people at all with bad song choices.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I think that Cathia did her best, but singing that Whitney song is really tough.

  • Nedsdag

Um, OK Cathia. I think she overdid it though.

  • EB

Don’t make me listen to this song once more
Because I don’t want hear it anymoooore..

Making up your own lyrics makes this more fun.

  • H.A.

Cathia got some range. I’m in a good mood because everyone sounds good to me tonight. lol.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

    Shakira is speaking the truth.

  • bridgette12

    Tell him Shakira!

  • chillj

I can’t even be rational about someone singing this song, I so dislike it.

  • Jordana33

That’s why I get annoyed when people pick Whitney. She did really well, but started off with a handicap by doing Whitney

  • matt89

Shakira speaking the truth. not good song choice at all

  • fuzzywuzzy

Usher picked the song. It’s not her fault.

  • http://www.facebook.com/aleeatorio Alexandre Oliveira

I don’t think the song choice did her any favors, but she is really good, I just don’t believe that will help her to connect with the viewers

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

I think everyone has been spot on vocal wise tonight.

  • http://www.facebook.com/aleeatorio Alexandre Oliveira

    Shakira is great

  • bridgette12

Usher can’t throw his one of his own under the bus, but it wasn’t good.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I know! It’s like he’s picking songs that expose the weaknesses in his contestants, rather than songs that exploit their strong points.

  • fuzzywuzzy

He just did, and pretty much told her she sucked.

  • http://www.etsy.com/shop/AdorablyHooked Gwen

Tonight is highlighting just ow much better Adam’s team is than Usher’s.

  • http://www.etsy.com/shop/AdorablyHooked Gwen

Yeah, that was some weird comment he made.

  • http://twitter.com/tle2000 Taylor

Cathia seems to be the cannon fodder for Team Usher. Remember that Usher will be forced to eliminate one of his artists on the results show (all judges need to get rid of 1 from their team).

  • bridgette12

It’s like he’s picking artist and songs that are way too difficult for his people to pull off. Muse and Whitney songs are not easy, you have to have the voice

  • Jordana33

I didn’t really agree with Shakira. I thought Cathia did well with the song…I wouldn’t say it was too ambitious for her. It’s just that there really is no way to top Whitney unless you rework the song.

  • tibitibis

Cathia has a great voice, but is clueless to pick the songs … is like her story in the show …too bad.:/

  • http://twitter.com/BrianGoodner Brian Wilkes

It’s backfired on people before to bring cannon fodder this far, because person with most votes gets through.

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

That’s what i don’t like about these “mentor” based shows! Your at the mercy of their song choices, where half the time it’s not even the right song choice for the contestant. It plain irritates me.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

Meh, I wish this was a debut song from them.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Usher picked the song for her.

  • bridgette12

Could live without this duet, nothing special about it.

  • H.A.

    Usher is a sexy MoFo.

  • http://twitter.com/jasongorny92 Jason Gorny

I’m annoyed with how Adam and Usher are singing tonight. I mean why couldn’t they wait until Wednesday night to do that. It should be about the contestants. The Voice just frustrates me.

  • sweetmm

Thanks to TVoice I realised Usher does have good vocals :)

  • EB

Why ‘Superstition’? I think it would be more fun if it was one of their own songs for a duet… not these boring, singing show-overdone tunes.

  • matt89

have to agree. Just kind of “meh”

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

    I completely agree with you.

  • fuzzywuzzy

That duet was OK. I think that I’ve just heard that song way too much. lol

  • H.A.

I agree. Tonight should be about the contestants.

  • Jordana33

I agree….why do they always sing these kinds of songs?

  • EB

It’s a mystery!! Do they even enjoying singing them? Kinda doesn’t seem like it… and I don’t enjoy hearing them. :P

These coaches have so many songs… they could do something original with one.

  • matt89

Caroline up next. Just saw her youtube channel, and she’s become one of my favorites

  • http://www.facebook.com/aleeatorio Alexandre Oliveira

    Happy birthday Judith

  • 1rollbounce2

gosh, what the hell is blake gonna sing with Shakira tomorrow? I’m guessing hips don’t lie isn’t an option. hahah

  • EB

Julia Stiles’ twin is up next.

  • fuzzywuzzy

OK, this is a good song choice by Adam for Caroline’s quirky vocals.

  • http://twitter.com/happylittlefish Amy Beth

Wednesday is for guests. Today is for team Adam and Team Usher. On the Voice, the coaches are part of the team.

  • 1rollbounce2

dear eyeglass gods, thank you for removing those ugly ones from her face.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

I would pay so much money to see that.

  • Jordana33

To be honest, I don’t think Adam and Usher were particularly that excited about the song. If they were performing their own stuff, I’d argue that it was self promotion, but this song just feel like they’re doing a filler….They have 8 performances to fill two hours, so they need a filler.

  • BonnieDee

Caroline Glaser sounds the same on everything.

  • H.A.

I don’t understand a word she is singing.

  • http://twitter.com/happylittlefish Amy Beth

I can’t stand her, yet I know she’s going to get lots of votes.

  • BonnieDee

Me either. It could be any of the songs she’s sung so far. All the same.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I’m not enjoying this very much. It’s just kind of meh for me.

  • bridgette12

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m looking forward to someone not singing something quirky. I just want someone to just belt out a song.

  • 1rollbounce2

LOL I knew that was her! She thought changing her name would fool us!

  • albean99

I liked the duet. I thought Adam & Usher sounded good together. So far I like Amber the best as far as performances although Sarah’s still one of my favorites. Josiah needs to go.

  • BonnieDee

    Amen!

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

I liked Caroline for the first time. This was a perfect song choice for her. Current and fit her voice. I still hope that she is the first one gone on Adam’s team. The other girls are much stronger.

  • bridgette12

Me neither, I don’t know what she was trying to sing.

  • Jordana33

I think she looks like Rachel Bilson a bit.

  • EB

Nice try by Adam… it was a good idea and she sang it ok… it was very boring however.

  • http://www.facebook.com/aleeatorio Alexandre Oliveira

I’m quite tired of this quirky thing

  • Jordana33

Shakira likes rock, so I could see some compromise

  • fuzzywuzzy

I think that Adam tried to give her a song that fit her vocal quirkiness, but she didn’t do much with it.

  • Jordana33

Same here. I liked her after looking at her channel.

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

It’s why I briefly changed the channel…Just can’t those kind of singers anymore.

  • Nedsdag

Is Caroline the quintessential singer/songwriter type or what? Also, does anyone get a Rachel Bilson vibe from her? By the way, LOL Blake and Adam!

  • fuzzywuzzy

    Kind of lukewarm comments.

  • EB

Ha! Trying to get another shot at fame! Can’t get anything past us!

  • EB

I can see that too! Her dimples/smile looks most like Julia’s to me. :)

  • johnkay

that’s what Candice is for lol

  • sweetmm

I enjoy listening to Caroline but there is no WOW factor.

  • LeoCS

well, in her defense, Usher decided and she wasn’t too much excited. lol

  • http://twitter.com/happylittlefish Amy Beth

For the love of Jove, voice affection =/= unique.

  • fuzzywuzzy
  • bridgette12

    Candice who?

  • http://www.facebook.com/aleeatorio Alexandre Oliveira

    I think she’s fodder

  • 1rollbounce2

On second thought – maybe she’s Starsky’s grandaughter. Wasn’t he Paul Michael Glaser??? hahaha (too lazy to look it up)

  • chillj

I don’t know who Rachel Bilson is, but I am hearing Of Monsters And Men.

  • chillj

She kind of did what I expected her to do with it, all wavery and such.

  • matt89

Blake must be trapped in country-land to not know that song

  • Jordana33

I really want to see Shakira and Usher perform and dance together.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Yeah, I think that’s the extent of her kind of vocals.

  • 1rollbounce2

heck – i was thinking lucky him! i blame that song for forcing me to sleep through my radio alarm often!

  • matt89

Guess I’m in the minority, I like Caroline

  • chillj

    yeah!

  • fuzzywuzzy

I’m looking forward to seeing Shakira perform. I hope that it’s an uptempo song.

  • Jordana33

She’s the lead in that CW show Hart of Dixie and also starred on the OC.

  • chillj

Heh. Me too. Dude can sing. Who knew?

  • matt89

Finally, someone I enjoy from Team Usher

  • matt89

    This song? Really Usher?

  • bridgette12

What the hell is Usher doing to his people? Do he hate his team.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

I’m starting to hate Usher with his song choices. Someone has been hanging out at Nigel’s house.

  • EB
  • FinalFantasy13

i like mariahs version of this song a lot…this guys not so much though.

  • chillj

These four judges are different enough that they provide a pretty good vocal mix, variety, in vocal types, unlike Idol. I’m a little slow; I just realized that is why I watch this show.

  • fuzzywuzzy

“Against all odds”? Just kill me now.

  • Wellworn

I am so SICK of that “unique phrasing” that singers like Caroline use. Where did it come from? What is the name of it, “Coffee House Style”? It’s like the singers are putting on some kind of strange accent and it sounds so precious and affected and FAKE. Can they please just sing with their normal accent or phrasing? SICK TO DEATH! Sorry, had to vent.

  • EB

HAHA AGAINST ALL ODDS. Go judge on Idol, Usher… your song choices will fit there.

  • 1rollbounce2

oh no he di’nt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! usher!!!!!!!!!!!!! you lost 25 points for that choice!

  • fuzzywuzzy

    Better late than never. lol

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

Vedo did good but once again Usher sucks at picking songs.

  • bridgette12

    Poor Vedo, poor thing.

  • Connie Stamley

The song is about a drug addicted hooker. It did not fit with her smiley little girl look. I Blame Adam for picking the wrong song for her. Think he had Melanie sing cough syrup last year. Same problem . They’re too young to understand the despair in the songs.

  • LeoCS

this night is being boring to mediocre. the only one really good, until now, was the first girl, Amber and she was barely praised

  • EB

She doesn’t have great stage presence to me… I think she needs to work on it because I just tune out really quickly. She needs to draw people in better.

  • http://www.facebook.com/aleeatorio Alexandre Oliveira

geez dude, calm down, it’s just a tv show haha but I agree this is getting annoying

  • http://www.facebook.com/aleeatorio Alexandre Oliveira

The best version of The A Team is Birdy’s

  • http://twitter.com/BrianGoodner Brian Wilkes

I’ve loved Vedo’s last two performances. Perfect song choices…he is really good with pitch control.

I would have not thought before these last two he would have been one of my favorites, but he has delivered big time.

  • fuzzywuzzy

But how do you really feel? lol

  • 1rollbounce2

yeah first is the new pimp spot i guess…you know the voice, always trying to be different… lol

  • johnkay

    Candice Glover of course haha

  • EB

Vedo deserved a better song and chance than that.

  • Jordana33

I liked her too. I do think she needs to show a little more originality, but I’d actually vote for her over Sarah.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Usher is batting 1.000 in bad song choices.

  • matt89

Too young? Ed Sheeran is only 22, and Caroline said she was in college

  • sweetmm

Usher seems to be stuck on Idol-type song choice with the exception of Josiahs’. I’m beginning to think that it is Josiah and not Vedo who is Usher’s pet.

  • bridgette12

Of all the great songs out there, he chooses a Phil Collins song.

  • H.A.

Vedo has the potential to be good but Usher needs to pick better songs.

  • Jordana33

LOL. Shakira is skewering team Usher.

  • luval

Josiah was just not good, IMO. He looks good but cannot sing. He is straining. Just watch the vein in his neck!

  • bridgette12

    Usher deserves it.

  • Jordana33

It’s driving me crazy because he really is a good coach…..he just has horrible taste in music!!!!!

  • weareallinnocent

I’ll join the minority and admit that Caroline is a favorite of mine. :-) Affected or whatever, I like it.

  • matt89

    Ugh, more Christina Milan

  • chillj

I think s/he feels worn – well worn.

  • fuzzywuzzy

This social media host is annoyingly perky. lol

  • http://twitter.com/BrianGoodner Brian Wilkes

The song is a story though…it’s not as if the lyrics are to be interpreted as if they are from the singer’s standpoint. Obviously Ed Sheeran isn’t a drug addicted hooker either (at least I don’t think he is).

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

Lol, her album flopped so she took up this gig.

  • chillj

Too many runs affect me the same way.

  • matt89

    anything for a paycheck

  • http://twitter.com/BrianGoodner Brian Wilkes

I love her too….I think we are going to have a tough elimination on Adam’s team. Too bad we can’t send two of Usher’s singers home.

  • EB

    HAHAHAHAAAA!

    WOOOOOOOOO!!!

^^ Her follow-up to her own comments that no one is laughing at or cheering for.

  • matt89

I’m with you. She seems a little like Ingrid Michaelson

  • http://twitter.com/happylittlefish Amy Beth

Adam’s family is in the rag trade?! How adorbs.

  • EB

I bet no one scratches their head more at that song being sung every season on every singing show on TV than Phil Collins. It is so weird and makes no sense when it is chosen.

  • matt89

anyone elimination on his team is going to be tough. He has a strong 4

  • bahogbugan_simj

i like Ireland and UK’s social media hosts in their own franchise. they skewer and make fun of both the contestants and the coaches

  • matt89

    Team Adam > 5th harmony

  • 1rollbounce2

man I love Judith. they’re all pretty perfect though.

  • Wellworn

<- she is well worn out by this crap. Not a good night at the voice either.

  • EB

    Amber is awesome again here.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

Judith really delivered on her solo.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Caroline is so off key it isn’t even funny.

  • H.A.

This group number is pretty awesome.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

Lol, I was praying she didn’t get a solo.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

I really think Amber is the dark horse in this competition. She has major pipes.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Amber is really standing out in this group number.

  • bridgette12

It’s easy to spot the weak link in that group.

  • matt89

Miles above Team Usher’s group performance

  • http://www.facebook.com/aleeatorio Alexandre Oliveira

wow, that’s what I call a group number

  • EB

She is rapidly becoming my favorite!

  • Jordana33

    Team Quirky FTW!

  • EB

She had the worst solo… otherwise a great group performance.

  • Connie Stamley

This would be awesome with just Judith and amber. The other two are too affected. Love Florence. Gotta go play her on my iPod to get this out of my ears.

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

You mean just by looks, right? ;) By the way, where is Ingrid Michaelson? Kinda miss her…

  • matt89

I wish we could keep all 4 on Team Adam and just eliminate 2 from Team Usher instead

  • http://www.facebook.com/aleeatorio Alexandre Oliveira

Amber is great because she can trascend genres, just like Amanda last year

  • Jordana33

The Ingrid Michaelson similarity is probably one of the reasons I like her.

  • chillj

    YES-S-S-S-!

  • bridgette12

It was a great group performance, the best I’ve seen on one of these shows.

  • matt89

Idol should take notes, that’s a group performance

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

Lord, when are my girls Michelle and Judith coming on dang it!

  • EB

Agreed! When Caroline was singing… I just tried to think of Florence singing it instead.

  • Jordana33

Can’t Adam donate one of his people to team Ursher? I’m not ready to see any of them go yet.

  • EB

I agree, it gave me chills! Especially from Amber, and Judith was great too.

  • chillj

For a group number that worked unusually well, though. Even Captain Quirk dropped it and belted.

  • bridgette12

    Their voices were great together.

  • matt89

Michelle! please don’t ruin her with another bad song choice Usher

  • rl231

As sad as it will be to send one of Team Adam home, I hope that Caroline Glaser goes because the other three, for me, are just better

  • matt89

And more overdone songs from usher

  • EB

That’s it, Usher. I’m done witchu and your silly song choices.

  • chillj

I try not to watch when she and the Twitters come on.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

That is what I am hoping happens.

  • chillj

    Pandora.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I’m enjoying this rendition. Michelle is singing well and it’s not karaoke at all.

  • bridgette12

I think Usher finally made a good song choice.

  • 1rollbounce2

I have a soft spot for this girl….

  • nncw

Adam: Amber and Judith will hopefully be voted top 2, then Sarah will be saved
Usher: Michelle and Josiah will likely be voted top 2 Vedo will be saved

  • matt89

At least Michelle is doing a good job with it, still a tired song choice

  • H.A.

I love Michelle but please get some contacts for that girl.

  • Jordana33

She had a recent album last year, but I guess it didn’t chart much. I saw her in concert recently and she was amazing. She’s also hilarious and very witty and down-to-earth. She’d actually be a perfect coach for the voice.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

I may be in the minority but I am glad we get to see a ballad from Michelle. It is refreshing that it is coming from her. The vocal is ok, but I would like for her to stay over some of the other contestants on Usher’s team. She certainly has earned her spot to go further tonight.

  • http://www.facebook.com/aleeatorio Alexandre Oliveira

Michelle is awesome. One of my favorites

  • H.A.

Amber and Michelle was the best tonight.

  • bridgette12

Wow, my favorite performance of the night. I love Michelle

  • fuzzywuzzy

Shakira’s right. Michelle is an “authentic” singer.

  • sweetmm

Wow sorry Usher, spoke too soon. That was a great choice for Michelle and she delivered!!! That was Beautiful girl <3

  • http://www.facebook.com/aleeatorio Alexandre Oliveira

Michelle and Amber are dark horses

  • 1rollbounce2

haha, she gets a free pass from me. she’s not making the fashion statement as obvious as the rest of the world with those ugly things!

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

Man I love Michelle. Just pure awesome. She unique without being affected. I love that about her :)

ETA: I also think Usher likes Michelle the best ;)

  • Jordana33

I loved that. Michelle is awesome.

  • http://twitter.com/happylittlefish Amy Beth

Michelle is the one contestant that the pre-show packages really help.

  • http://www.facebook.com/aleeatorio Alexandre Oliveira

I may be in the minority but I love how 50% of the comments tonight start with “I may be in the minority”

  • chillj

    Michelle, ma belle!!!!!! Nice job!

  • fuzzywuzzy

Very impressed by Michelle. Song choice wasn’t particularly great, but Michelle made it a great performance.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

That is until we find out that people agree with us. :P Most of us are on the same page tonight with the contestants.

  • Wellworn

I <3 Michelle. No precious affectations there.

  • sweetmm

Michelle gave us the performance I had expected from Sarah. Michelle soar where Sarah sunk to emote. Simple and not acrobatic won it for me.

  • Bob

Nigel would be proud of the move The Voice’s producers did to make sure Judith got the pimp spot.

  • bridgette12

What I like about Michelle is she’s so raw and unpolished and her authenticity shines through. I love that about her, she’s so real and her awkwardness is endearing.

  • http://twitter.com/happylittlefish Amy Beth

I think Usher’s head knows Josiah and VEDO are more commercial, but his heart is with Michelle.

  • H.A.

I’ve said from the beginning that Michelle and Garrett could be the two contestants to become stars in real life.

  • chillj

They could even just shrink the glasses by half.

  • 1rollbounce2

She just seems very warm and real – and unpretentious to me.

  • H.A.

I like her Tina Fey look better.

  • 1rollbounce2

Judith is making her hair have it’s own personality…like patti labelle used to do I think

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

The Voice is just as bad as Idol in redundant song choices. Why we must hear “Feeling Good” again? Man, these singing shows are sharing the same song list…

  • fuzzywuzzy

    Already great.

  • matt89

Other songs do exist The Voice. another overdone song

  • 1rollbounce2

    LOVE LOVE LOVE!

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

Judith is great, but I’m tired of this song. Still, she is flawless.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Very nice. Judith really has everything going for her right now.

  • matt89

Probably in the minority (theme of the week), but it felt like she was trying too hard

  • Jordana33

Judith Hill has a way of making me enjoy songs that I’m sick of hearing.

  • Jordana33

I think Garrett is another dark horse in the competition. He improves every time he performs.

  • EB

She did a great job even though I still kinda hated every minute of the overdone song I didn’t want to listen to… that does take skill! Well done, Judith!

  • Da 1 N Only

Unfortunately I still don’t see anybody from this show becoming a star in real life. The format of this show just does not build the kind of momentum needed to launch an artist. I just hope whoever wins is treated like a new artist & is developed rather than expecting immediate success because they won a show.

  • matt89

Yes, technically good, but other than that, didn’t really feel it

  • EB

I thought The Voice was better in this way in past seasons. :(
Looks like someone picked up Idol’s songbook of choice overdone tunes. For shame!

  • H.A.

I thought Judith started out great but then kind of lost the melody a little. She sounded great though.

  • fuzzywuzzy

My favorite performances were Judith, Michelle and Amber (in no particular order).

  • Wellworn

Michelle was the best of the night. Beautiful vocal, sung with feeling and connection to the song, and changed the song up enough to make it her own, not just a karaoke version. Judith was good, especially in the group number, but no one touched Michelle’s performance tonight.

  • Jordana33

Judith has so much more soul and personality than Sasha. I don’t know what Adam is talking about, but I really don’t think Sasha is in the same league. And based on Amber’s performances, I think Adam did the right thing when he picked Amber over Sasha.

  • fuzzywuzzy

That would be my one criticism too. At a certain point, she deviated from the melody too far, but brought it back towards the end.

  • bridgette12

Her vocals are good, just didn’t like the arrangement.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

    Who I want to advance:
    Team Adam: Judith,Sara, and Amber.
Team Usher: Josiah,Michelle, and a random toss up or either Cathia or Vedo. Don’t care which one.
    Overall, I enjoyed the night!

  • sweetmm

Judith vocal and stage presence is in another class; she deserved to shine on stage based on such a spectacular talent.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

I agree. The arrangement was strange.

  • 1rollbounce2

Yes, it was really great but then I also felt like she was stopping and starting so much it was at the same time teasing annoying status.

  • Jordana33

I keep hoping that the coaches are saving the better songs for when their contestants actually start competing against other teams.

  • bridgette12

Michelle was my favorite of the night.

  • chillj

    Now that is a gift.

  • Jordana33

    Ha Ha!

  • chillj

I thought he left last week?

  • sweetmm

I’m gonna predict the highest votes for each team:
    Adam: Judith & Amber
    Usher: Michelle & Josiah

  • Jordana33

Michelle, Amber and Judith had the best performances of the night, and I also liked Caroline. I don’t think there were really any bad performances, just bad song choices.

For Team Adam, I’d like to see Amber, Judith and Caroline advance.
For Team Usher: Michelle and whoever.

  • 1rollbounce2

Somewhat of a big mac sandwich – the meat being Amber, Michelle, and Judith for me.

  • ht23

    Totally agree with you!

  • albean99

Michelle was my favorite tonight and the one I most looked forward to. Judith was excellent as usual. I liked all of Adam’s but guess I’d prefer Judith, Amber, & Sarah to go through. For Usher’s I only care about Michelle and Vedo. My preference would be for Josiah to go but think it will be Cathia.

  • http://twitter.com/tle2000 Taylor

Judith is DEAD LAST in iTunes votes within Team Adam. Wow she is in big trouble of being bottom 2.

  • http://twitter.com/tle2000 Taylor

    iTunes results:

    57 – Amber

    70 – Sarah

    83 – Michelle

    84 – Caroline

    164 – Judith

    424 – Josiah

    470 – Vedo

    746 – Cathia

  • Aida

Guess I’m the only one who didn’t love Judith tonight. She sounded kinda cabaret. My favs were Michelle (the breakout) , Sarah and Amber.

  • twodollars

I am shocked to say that Amber, Michelle, and Caroline gave my favorite performances by far tonight. I went into night rooting for Judith and Sarah and both were huge disappointments. Sarah was pitchy and oversang and I hated everything about Judith’s performance. It was overwrought.

Judging by the iTunes rankings right now, Adam is going to have to save Judith tomorrow night.

  • Aida

Michelle deserves a higher ranking! C’mon people!

  • girlygirl

Starlight is a really hard song to sing. Matt Bellamy is an incredible vocalist. Josiah does not have anywhere near as good of a voice. That performance was shaky at best. And honestly he doesn’t strike me as an alt rock artist to begin with

  • LongKissGoodnight

Correct me if I’m wrong but I thought they were done with this quotas per team once the live shows started last season?
Are we back to the stupid format where contestants get penalized for being on the strong team?
    Sigh…

Is there a point in the competition where simply the lowest vote getter gets the boot?

  • girlygirl

What the heck is Sarah wearing?

She gave a really beautiful performance of the Sarah McLachlan song, though

  • Jordana33

Only during this week of the live playoffs. Once we’re in the top 12, then it changes. It was done the same way last season, except each team had 5 contestants entering the live playoffs and this year there are 4.

  • Jordana33

Judith was excellent, but she has to realize that in order to win, she’ll have to perform songs that people actually want to listen too. Giving an impressive performance isn’t enough!!

  • Jordana33

I was really hoping it would be Sarah going home, but that’s not going to happen, I guess. I liked Caroline, but I can’t see him saving her over Judith

  • Jordana33

It doesn’t matter for now….She’s the best on team Usher, so she’ll be a shoo-in for the final 12.

  • Jordana33

LOL. No he’s still there. I think he’s Shakira’s favorite.

  • LongKissGoodnight

    Ok, thank you.)

    Still, it’s irritating to me.

Basically what it means is that each coach only needs 3 strong people.

There is not much point in a 12th people teams because all but 3 are doomed to play role of cannon fodder (even it their talents are much bigger then that).

  • cheese

Wow, Michelle and Amber were really good. Caroline was pretty good, but her style is so affected, she doesn’t even sound like the same person from week to week. Sarah had a few moments during Angel, but the overall impression was just good to me. At least she didn’t sing Angels. I tried to listen to Josiah, but that poor song….

I didn’t watch Judith, Cathia or Vedo because Feeling Good, Whitney and Against all Odds. I’ll assume that Judith was better than Lazaro.

  • bridgette12

She’s the worst dressed girl they have on the show. Last week she had the 60′s hippie/Grecian goddess vibe and this week another monstrosity.

  • Whatiswrongwithus

I thought Josiah did pretty well! Considering not everyone can do a Muse song justice, Josiah rocked it out as much as he could LOL. Plus, he always looks yummy. Usher sure knows how to bait the audience – electric guitar and rock songs and all LOL!

  • RalphResty

I don’t feel this guy. He’s just going by his “good looks”.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

So glad Amber is high on the list. She really delivered tonight and jumped into my favorites. I’m surprised at Judith’s low itunes ranking.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

I agree. She needs to perform current songs.

  • http://www.facebook.com/rhonda.holcombmorris Rhonda Holcomb Morris

THE VOICE!! ugh!! More disappointing than Idol. Amber by far and only. Hoping for more but not, Michelle and Caroline too gimmicky. Sarah was my fav but way too many mistakes and Judith been there done that not special. The rest can’t remember.

  • irockhard

Yeah and he did a way better job with Uprising than Josiah did with Starlight. But James has a huge range, Josiah doesn’t.

  • irockhard
  • irockhard

You must’ve not watched season 10. James Durbin performed Uprising during top 7 week.

  • irockhard

I’ve noticed this too, her best performance is still her blind audition. She was dumb to pick Adam as her coach, he’s not helping her, she should’ve chosen Shakira.

  • irockhard

Eh, judging from the knockouts the contestants are no better at picking songs themselves.

  • irockhard

It can but I don’t see any evidence that Cathia is more popular than the other contestants on team Usher. So if she’s fodder Usher made the right choice IMO.

  • irockhard

LOL back in the late 90s / early 2000s, before he sold out to club music, he did a lot of real singing. Glad to see Usher the singer back, it’s been a long time.

  • irockhard

Well the only one who got a contemporary song was Josiah, so any guesses who Usher’s chosen one is?

  • irockhard

This is what I suspect too.

  • irockhard

Michelle is commercial too, there’s a place in pop for weirder/quirkier artists if the material is good.

  • irockhard

It’s not the show’s format that’s the problem it’s that there’s no infrastructure like 19 Entertainment.

  • irockhard

I agree Josiah doesn’t have enough edge to sing anything by Muse or Amy Winehouse. He should stick with pop rock in the vein of Maroon 5, Train and The Script.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I agree that her best performance was her blind audition. Just like on Idol, sometimes a contestant is great on their initial audition, but it’s usually a song that they have worked on a lot and had tons of time to perfect. Once they advance into the competition, they aren’t so adept at taking on new songs and Sarah may be one of those contestants. I think that Shakira would have been very helpful to her. That doesn’t explain the pitchiness though, which may be nerves, as Amy Beth suggested.

  • MrTemecula

Yeah, ITA. Everytime Judith sings, I’m impressed by her ability, yet, never really feel anything other than, ‘meh.’ I keep thinking that I need a tv with better speakers, but when I listen to Amber, she chills me to the bone.

  • mmb

Was it really necessary for Usher and Adam to interrupt the proceedings to perform last night? that is one of my pet peeves about the show. the audition rounds are super fun with the judges battling it out with each other and the spinning chairs. I like watching the coaches work with their contestants. But we see so little of the contestants individually over the course of a season that it is hard to form any attachment or solid interest in them. And then the superstar judges have a jillion performances together which pulls focus away from the contestants. Judith has a great voice but I just find her uninteresting. Josiah needs to stop smiling during every song. I lololol’d when Usher had a contestant sing against all odds

  • http://twitter.com/happylittlefish Amy Beth

I like it. It reinforces that the coaches, walk the walk. Plus, it emphasizes that on Team Adam/Usher night, they are part of the team.

  • BrightLights

I can’t get excited about watching the show because there’s too much talking and BS and not enough music, but I really enjoy watching these the day after. I really, REALLY like Amber, whom I think is extremely relevant and very versatile, a la Carrie Underwood, and I can see her being very successful. I liked her “Good Girl” performance, but “I’m With You” was exceptional. She is my pick to win. I also love Michelle, who is just plain FUN. She doesn’t have the same vocal range as some of the others, but she really knows how to use it. I thought True Colors was a great pick for her this week given the last few weeks; it showed her ability to strip down a song as well as get a little over the top. Judith doesn’t do anything for me. Great voice, but I don’t want to listen to her.

By a jillion I’m assuming you mean twice, because that’s how many times the coaches have performed on the show the last seasons.

I honestly don’t get this complaint, in general. I think the contestants get as much or more face time than on that other singing show. At least the contestants who make the voting rounds. And they sure get a whole lot more singing time.

NERDS Rule! Best special of the year, The Nerd Prom. Best News show, Melissa Harris Perry’s (MSNBC), Nerdland. Best Voice performance, night one, MICHELLE CHAMUEL…..Let’s wear our short-sleeved Oxford shirts with pocket protectors with pride today.

I’m not surprised no one so far from The Voice has established much of a career. The format of the show doesn’t favor the contestants. Everyone ends up forgettable but the judges.

  • mmb

OK a jillion is overstating it..but I’m not just referring to this season. Every season there are at least 2-3 performances with all the judges, then a few performances with 2 of the judges, then solo judge performances. It adds up to 8-10 judge performances per season. Thats a lot.

I believe the producers give the coaches a very short list song choices. Most of them are the predictable oldies like Whitney and Phil Collins songs.

Lets see the song choices for Blake and Shakira teams. If they also choose the predictable songs, it mean this season the producers are being so cheap on songs selection.

I’m only impressed by Amber… she’s got raw talent and the ability to connect. She just may win. I think I like her more than slick professional Judith. Didn’t like Judith’s performance at all because it wasn’t organic to me.

Also the model Josiah smiling throughout the Muse song bugged the crap outta me.

And Usher need to ask his assistant to watch every singing competition shows and write down what songs already been sing to death and not to choose those songs. (if he can) from the song choices that the producer give him.

I don’t know….the contestants seem pretty memorable to me, and I can remember the good ones even from the first season. But it’s just like Idol. I remember the contestants from the seasons I watched completely (like season 7 &8), but have a hard time remembering people from the more recent seasons where I skipped a lot of episodes.

  • Jordana33

I don’t get the complaint either. It was a two hour show and they had only 8 performances, so of course they needed filler. Perhaps they could have given us some more intro packages and sob stories to fill the space, but I prefer that they filled the extra time with good performances.

Plus I still think that the contestants on The Voice who don’t make the voting rounds get a lot more screen time than the average Idol contestants making it to the Hollywood rounds. I’d be more annoyed if they had the Voice coaches performing during the battle and knockout rounds when they were montaging contestants due to time constraints.

I hope they never get rid of these performances because I love watching the contestants perform with their mentors and I love seeing these major artists from different musical backgrounds performing together onstage. It’s one of the things that has helped encourage the good working rapport and mutual respect among the coaches. It also reinforces the “family” atmosphere that so many former contestants talk about. Performing with their team is just one of the many ways in which the coaches come down to the level of the contestants, which is another reason so many artists want to be on the Voice. People need to stop thinking that the Idol format is the gold standard.

Uhhh… Judith was terrible. I have no idea what you were listening to. Easily the worst performance of the night. Talk about being in the extreme minority.

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

But that’s not her fault. She is given those songs. Blame these “coaches” for their dated song choices….

  • mtlfan2

I’m catching up on the episode. Michelle Chamuel is really incredible!!
Too bad that i can’t listen to any of the videos posted (not allowed in Canada!)

  • alonzo7

I must be in the minority because I didn’t like Judith or Sarah-Adam made a mistake letting Sasha go and be taken by Shakira-she has a much warmer personality.
My favs are Amber and Michelle.
