The Voice 10 - Top 8 Performances

Hey, maybe the girl curse WILL be broken! Nah. I still think a dude is going to win it all, but there will be at LEAST two females who advance into next week’s final. Alisan Porter, Mary Sarah and Hannah Huston all appear to have a shot at advancing to the Top 3. It appears to be a pretty safe bet that Shalyah Fearing and Paxton Ingram will be eliminated outright tomorrow night. I also feel confident that Adam Wakefield will make the Top 3. But that’s all I’m willing to call at this point. I’m going to wait until morning before making any definitive predictions.

I’m surprised that Laith Al-Saadi isn’t charting higher, because he’s done well on iTunes week in and week out. I also assumed he had people who would vote no matter what, but it seems that performing early hurt him. Maybe he should have stuck to the classics. Sticking with a formula of retro blues, rock and country worked for him all season. If he had to sing for his life, he’d probably lose against the likes of Mary, Allison, or Hannah.

As far as tomorrow’s sweeping eliminations go: On one hand, sending home so many contestants at once is brutal, but on the other hand there is something to be said for holding a singer’s feet to the fire. The high stakes bring out the best in them. Adam, Mary, and Hannah all performed their personal best tonight with Laith and Alisan performing at the top of their games. It was a good night of television. I hate to say it, but tomorrow will be even better. Last season’s blood bath was full of surprises. I have a feeling this year’s will be too.
