WELP. Adam Wakefield’s original song knocked Mr. Justin Timberlake out of the #1 position on iTunes. Within an hour of the show finishing on the East coast, “Lonesome, Broken and Blue” had zoomed to #3. I can’t crawl inside the minds of country music fans, but the song felt a little generic, as if he’s on his way to being a great songwriter, but not quite there yet. If I had to choose, I preferred both Alisan Porter’s country/folk original and Laith Al-Saadi’s easy going blues tune.

Despite singing his original song in the middle of the lineup and not being highlighted in any special way, viewers were immediately drawn to Adam’s performance. I think that says something about the depth of his fan base right now. The other surprise was Hannah Huston’s unusual take on “Every Breath You Take.” It’s at the #3 spot, right behind Justin Timberlake. I expected it to finish in the Top 10, but not beat out nearly every other song! The weird “I call the Shots” is in last place, which is NOT surprising. At least it made the Top 10.

Guys. The producers are trying so hard to make Alisan Porter happen. She’s been given the winner’s edit all season. Tonight her “Somewhere” performance had the pimp spot, and her video packages made sure to highlight her child star history and difficult path overcoming adversity. Adam Freaking Levine is actually putting competitiveness aside to take one for the team. On one hand, he tells his team member, Laith Al-Saadi, after his performance that he’s fine with whatever happens, barely asking America to vote for him. Then, he straight up tells Alisan she’s the best singer and deserves to win. That’s called being a good soldier! Regardless, I don’t think she’s going to win.

It’s not that Alisan doesn’t deserve to win. She took the stage tonight with the crown in her sights. And to be honest, I can’t say the same about Adam, who has expressed mixed feelings to the press about playing the fame game. Those mixed feelings are keeping him from performing as if his life depended on it. Nevertheless I STILL expect him to take the crown tomorrow night. He’s been a consistent performer, and most importantly–really clear about WHO he is as an artist. If Alisan has a major failing, it’s being all over the map. Who is she exactly? What kind of record would she make. Also, southern boys have the advantage! A gal from Los Angeles is going to be at a disadvantage from the jump.

Laith has been allowed to do his thing. And his thing has spectacularly. It won’t garner a win, but he’ll leave The Voice with a much higher profile. Hannah was mishandled by Pharrell in a lot of respects. She was inexperienced and needed more than pep talks to guide her. She had some great performances, but could have had even more. It’s a testament to her talent that she got as far as she did.
