Thanks, Aaron and Tony for the photo!

UPDATE: Check out this giant M&M http://tweetphoto.com/25215910. OMG SO CHEESY! Lulz.

2nd Update: Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox opened the show with “Falling Slowly”. First trip to New York for both. After some technical difficulties, Casey James and Michael Lynch sang  “Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman.”  Finally, Lee sang “The Boxer”–the rest of the Idols joined him on stage for the “lai la lai’s”…and that was it.  Damn. I was hoping for a pointy pose!

@thekatiestevens tweeted that the concert was short due to safety reasons. According to @andrewagarcia, “they were supposed to let us all perform a song but they cut it, sorry, wish I could of played:(“

At 12:30 pm ET today, the Top 10 Idols will perform together on the M&M’s stage, to promote the new M&M pretzel, at Herald Square in  New York City.

It’s the kids’ first performance since the finale, and likely the last time you’ll see them together unless you buy a ticket to their upcoming American Idols Live tour, beginning on July 1.

You can watch Lee Dewyze, Crystal Bowersox, Casey James, Michael Lynche, Aaron Kelly, Siobhan Magnus, Tim Urban, Katie Stevens, Andrew Garcia and Didi Benami live as the performance  streams on the M&M Facebook page.

Falling Slowly

  • Ximena

    8 minutes!! haha

  • Ximena

    falling slowly…love it

  • wjmtv

    Mmmm. Cheeeeeeeeeeeze.

Word to the wise: if you’ve got an announcer who might have to vamp, get someone with a voice that doesn’t sound like nails on a chalkboard, k?

  • wjmtv

Heh. They should make Mike the MC.

  • Ximena

yeah her voice is annoying !!!
and mike its not really a show man lol

  • Ximena

omg this is not that bad! is pretty good!! haha good job casey and mike!

  • http://www.dancin.ca dancin

    wow thats it? lol

  • wjmtv

    Blink and you missed it.

  • Ximena

    Blink and you missed it.

    f*** i missed it!!

    haha but it was lovely….

  • http://twitter.com/maxsmom61 CathyMK

Well, that was short and sweet (Get it, LOL?). I love the duets, though. Hope they do them on tour. Also loved the way the girls were harmonizing at the end of The Boxer.

  • J9BT

I missed it! Obviously I blinked! LOL.

Ok – what songs did they perform and in what order? LOL at the giant M&M. I sure hope someone got video of this and MJ is able to post it!

  • larc

A lot of buildup about a very short and poorly organized event. Definitely more sizzle than steak!

  • http://myspace.com hgzaj

lmfao, that was horrible. what a disappointment.

i got out of bed for this. i got out of bed to see my favorite singing “lalalalala” as a backup singer with 9 other people. wow!

i thought they were going to show everyone and give everyone something. BORING

I remember at Larry King they were all like OMG WERE GONNA BE PERFORMING IN NYC on some giant M&M… yeah, why didnt you tell them all you’d be doing was a lalala? ugh

  • Tmoc

Oh man fans of the others are going to be really upset, they could not even let them do a group song? I don’t think this was good for M&M or Idol. Another bad idea.

  • Ximena

    falling slowly
have you ever really love a woman
    the boxe

  • GwendolynD

    Lee & The Pips

  • Liva

Lucky, lucky people who have tickets to their show. Lee, Crystal, Casey and Mike are quite the entertainers, and they sound fantastic! In a giant snack no less … outside … in the open air … with just their guitars … and not on the idol stage … which has really poor sound …

  • siyamnuwebenine

It says mini concert..not micro concert…
geez! hope everyone didn’t get tired watching that concert..

  • Trina

So hope they do Falling Slowly on tour. Love it so much!

  • Landmd

IT was 8 minutes with 2 minutes waiting on Mike and Casey to get to the stage with 30 seconds for Casey to get a strap. Not very well organized at all.

  • S0n0fLucy
  • Liva

… 30 seconds for Casey to get a strap.

    Also entertaining… ;-)

  • BootStar

Is there any video? I blinked and missed it.

  • wjmtv

I’m fascinated by the fact that a major company like Mars can’t get their shit together any better than that. Makes me think maybe I’m not such a screw-up after all!

It must be humid in NYC today. That would explain all the tuning.

  • Esqt

I’m really sorry but when I saw the picture of that big giant M&M, I can’t help but laugh so hard. What the heck! LOL…still laughing. OMG, what have they done to deserve this?

I visited the Times Square store this past Sunday to try to get some details, and the lead “announcer” in the store told me they were performing on Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. Thank God I didn’t get up early and take a vacation day yesterday to try to see this! Or today, for that matter!

  • SashaB

It must be humid in NYC today. That would explain all the tuning.

Actually it’s a gorgeous day here. Perfect weather. No real humidity.

That Giant M&M is hilarious. Hee.

  • Liva

OMG, what have they done to deserve this?

A gig’s a gig, right? Big, orange, floaty stage beats urine-tainted subway platform.

What would be the safety issue, I wonder?

  • OvenMitt

    Lee & The Pips

More like Lee and the Blowfish. “Hold….my….hand”

  • KRo

Oh man, that was painful to watch. I feel bad for the people that drove from far away into NYC to see that poor excuse for a concert.

It started out nice with the Crystal–Lee duet, but it just went to sh** quickly after that. They couldn’t have the instruments already tuned beforehand?!? These are the reining American Idols for crying out loud — don’t they have “people” to do that for them??!! That announcer lady was annoying as hell; I was hoping Lee would push her out of the M&M.

  • Liva

My take is that Lee reeeealy wanted to play another song while the stage people got their act together. The ‘hostess’ reminded me of a carny worker. Always yelling at me for something…

  • googletot

You can click on the video box and it will start playing the whole concert if you missed it at 12:30.

  • LadyBeBop

What’s really a waste is that the 4th through 10th place contestants basically flew into NYC for nothing (besides a few LaLaLa’s). Granted, they all had fun in the Big Apple. Still, it seems a waste of time and resources.

Following a few of the Idol’s tweets. Tim tweeted about $12 eggs and $6 orange juice (or is it the other way around). Siobhan tweeted last night about waiting for Lee to pick up a pizza…ended up eating M&Ms for supper. (Note to the Idols…during the tour, pizza delivery is your friend. And don’t even think about sending Lee to pick up pizza. Once the word spreads that he’s out, he’ll be fighting the crowds, and you’ll have to resort to M&Ms for supper.)

  • tierbee

Haha, they really *are* in a giant M&M – I don’t know what I expected but that was not it!

  • Bethlyn

Oh man. Poor people. Not that it isn’t embarrassing enough, but it is interestingly orchestrated too. Lee trying to adjust his capo and tune his guitar, and Mike & Casey MIA. Oh brother! La-la-la… la-la-la-la-la-la… la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la NO!

  • tierbee

OK, watching the video now and I already am having issues with my ears ringing today (well, and yesterday) but GAH, the “emcee” or whatever she is, make her stop!

That announcer lady was annoying as hell; I was hoping Lee would push her out of the M&M.

    Haha, awesome.

  • wjmtv

Well in that case, WTF? They threw them up there with inadequate prep time? Beautiful. (Of course, while Casey was up there, that’s probably exactly what the girls were saying.)

Liva, I caught that too. Lee was ready to play while we waited for the boys. LOL.

  • justminx

LMAO! The M&M opens up? WTH!? Looks like it was designed by the Celebrity Apprentice crowd, “we need a stage that can promote our product too.”

  • AmericanIdol8

I agree with Liva and wjmtv, Lee was ready to play and he should have been able to play while everyone waited for the “boys”. I loved how Lee sounded and the rest too. I do hope that Lee and Crystal sing that duet on tour. My guess is that Lee will end with The Boxer like Kris did last year with Hey Jude and the rest of the idols will come on stage like they did today. I hope Casey does sing along then he has an amazing voice, we already know he kills it on the guitar!

  • J9BT

@thekatiestevens tweeted that the concert was short due to safety reasons…

LMAO. Just looking at this “structure” with Big Mike & Casey in it is evidence enough there are safety issues LOL!

OTOH, it will be a nice change to have the colored M&M characters on tour rather than that giant pop tart. The samples will be better too. :-)

  • Liva

I’m really sorry but when I saw the picture of that big giant M&M, I can’t help but laugh so hard. What the heck!

You know, I got to thinking. If Jimi Hendrix could open for The Monkees, these guys can play in a giant bean.

  • wjmtv

    LOL of the day. :)

Ah, the Monkees. The original Boy Band.

  • carey

MJ, hoping for a pointy pose when you already had Idols singing inside a giant M&M was just being greedy! How will they torture these poor kids next?

    I see a possible future M&M commercial. ;-)

  • OvenMitt

I wonder if they are gonna re-use that giant orange M&M stage. Seems like a waste of a giant M&M (that opens up, no less!) for just one 12 minute concert. I vote for a Giant M&M summer concert series!

    My friend is going…

  • jpfan

I was there. After I figured out it was at 34th St and not 42nd St as I first thought. Okay here’s a quick recap.

I was about a block sitting comfortably in the pedestrian walk way on a nice sunny day. Quck impressions–Lee is really a sweet guy. He kept saying everything is amazing. Crystal also seems very sweet although a tougher cookie than Lee.

Falling Sofly sounded lovely but to be honest that kind of duet is something you hear in the subways. I think it’s the guitars that seal it. Mike and Casey did their thing and Mike seemed more at place in NYC which makes sense. Casey is an awesome guitar player and Mike has a terrrific voice but still seems cheesy. I hate the song they did however.

Lee did The Boxer including the line “the whores on 7th Avenue” which was pretty funny. Lee sounded quite good but I did hear abit of Off Key Lee. Idol has to get more recent songs for the contestants. They just have to. Overall it was a totally pleasant 20 minutes and the four of them just seem like total sweethearts.

Give Idol credit for making some dreams come true and if you can get a $20 ticket I recommend the S9 show. It should be way more mellow than S8 which to be honest was terrible until Matt showed up.

I didn’t even realize the stage was a giant M&M until just now. :)
What kind of safety issues? There was well behaved audience there and the vibe was extremely mellow. Please note I was already in the area and didn’t make any extra effort to see this show. If I’d made a special trip in to NYC, I might not be so nice especially if I was fan of the ones that didn’t sing at all.

  • flicker

From an article about this concert:

at lunch they appeared in Herald Square outside Macy’s on 34th Street to launch the new pretzel M&M.

I guess I’m slow, but I just now figured out this was probably a paid endorsement like the Disney thing. D’oh!

    http://www.irishcentral.com/ent/American-Idol-winner-Lee-Dewyze-performs-Irish-song-Falling-Slowly-in-New-York-95436569.html

  • weese

These kids are so going to have M&M nightmares.

  • Letitride

I hope Mike and Casey do NOT do that song on tour. They do it well and it was nice the first few times I heard it but really guys, please not on the tour…

  • wjmtv

I’d be surprised if they did it on the tour. My guess is we got two duets because that was the way to get the most Idols onstage in the least amount of time. No other reason.

  • Dlynne

Oh well. Some days things don’t work out exactly like they should, especially if the event is put on by a local radio station. I did giggle quite a bit, though. Lee and Crystal were cute. Mike and Casey were cute, too. The La-La-La-Las had me LMAO. So, at least they all got a free trip to NYC.

    Lee & The Pips

    Hilarious!

So, has anyone else noticed that Lee really never wants to leave a stage? He just wants to keep singing and playing his guitar. I love that.

  • tessa

Wish Lee could sing more. He sounded great! Can’t wait to hear more from him. I guess I just have to make do with his homecoming videos in the meantime. I’m so glad he won!

  • koshka

I thought the Disney Dog and Pony photo ops were bad… the big MnM leaves me speechless.

  • CFIdolsfan

Don’t care for the giant M & M’s thing, but loved hearing Casey and Mike again. They were my 2 favorites. I would not mind hearing the song at all again, especially with Casey’s exquisite guitar playing, <3. Btw, today St. Petersburg, FL, is doing a homecoming for Big Mike. The mayor and officials are supposed to give him a key to the city, and among other places, he will be going to his alma mater, Gibbs High School. Our local FOX affiliate, with the well-known Charley Belcher, is supposed to be covering it.
