Top Top 10 are in the DC area today, in between their Washington DC and Baltimore concerts. Earlier today, they visited soldiers at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

Here are some of their impressions, via twitter:

Kris Allen: @KrisAllen4Real -Just went to the army hospital in DC. Thank you to the people that risk their lives over seas for our country.

Scott MacIntyre: @IdolScott: “Honored to go to meet our troops this morning.. God bless you for your service…At Walter Reed Army Medical Center.. These faithful servants of our country are the true American Idols.

Matt Giraud: @MGiraudOfficial: It was so touching to go see the wounded soldiers gaining back their strength and independence without some of their limbs. I salute them…It really makes you think of your loved ones and be thankful for whatever it is that you have.

Michael Sarver: @michaelsarver1 – So we just visited Walter Reed Army Medical Center. I am humbled in a way I have never been…I don’t think I will ever feel comfortable with the term “idol” attached to my name again…To all those serving our great country at home and abroad. This phrase seems empty and insufficient but Thank You!!…We just met the true American Idols. We are so blessed to have people like that fighting for the USA and freedom across the world…One man said I was his favorite and all that came to mind was your my favorite. He had no right leg and a tore up arm in a wheelchair…And all he talked about was getting up and walking again. What a man, what a fighter. He is my hero and idol not the other way around.

Awwwww I’m gonna cry because of sarver’s tweet(not- but it’s so sweet)

  • lambrina

Now that almost made me cry, Sarver’s tweets were so touching.

  • saga

I hope they did some singing too! Were they just visiting?

  • Q3

OK I’m loving Sarver now! And I am very pleased that they arranged this tour and gave these Idols the opportunity to recognize the sacrifices of these soldiers and their families.

    Peace soon.

  • Winks8

Wow, Sarvers tweet sure does put everything into perspective doesn’t it? Really, really lovely! And of course for selfish reasons, I hope there will be press photos.

  • AnninSD

Love Sarver’s tweet – I actually teared up.
I wish him the best, he is truly a great guy!

  • colette

Yeah, Sarver and Matt – -they’re the two surprises of the season, in terms of one’s humanity and the other one’s music.

Sure reminds you not to make snap judgements about people you see on TV….

I’m warming up to Sarver the more I hear from him. What an eloquent expression of his emotions at Walter Reed.

  • suebrody

I used to think Sarver was just using twitter as a self-serving promotional forum (I mean, he DOES give out passes once he hits another thousand mark, which I have ceased being part of, b/c it’s tacky). However, some of his posts have really shown that he is a genuine guy (e.g., after the pap’s slur of Anoop), and this one is particularly touching. Kudos to Michael and the Idols for taking their time out to visit the injured vets. And I’m glad Kris had the chance to go, considering the other demands on his schedule.

I am on the “I love Michael Sarver” bandwagon too. He has slowly been winning me over the past few weeks.
First his Tweets about Anoop last night. I think Michael would have kicked that pappss a$$ if he could. Then his feelings about the DC review of him and now these hospital Tweets.
He may not get a recording contract, but I sure hope he sells all of his 900 songs. He deserves it!

  • luvadamlambert

I like sarver a lot more now

  • Squirrely

I am on the ‘I love Michael Sarver’ bandwagon too.

I don’t know. Sometimes I am too but other times, I just don’t know. Eh, I guess it’s not even that important.

So, Michael Sarver is definitely growing on many of us.

It turns out that he is extremely well-spoken, and genuine, in his tweets and in all of his interviews … Ever since the beginning of this tour I have been floored by his communication skills. I wonder if I had preconceived notions that brought my expectations down too low. How eloquent could an oil-rigger from Texas be… right? But the more I listen to Michael Sarver, the more he dispels my own prejudices and the more respectful I become. He and Adam are definitely the most eloquent idols in the group. (Anoop is great too but, strangely, not quite as good.)

So, Michael; music and talk show host; music and commentator; music and speeches and motivation or politics … ? Any which way… talk on … Mr. Sarver … Hopefully, you’ll find a way to harness this ability in all of your future pursuits.

    that was ONE SWEET TWEET!

but I wouldn’t call him eloquent. Far from it. A bit of a rambler with a good, sincere, albeit sensitive heart, but I really don’t think speaking, public or otherwise, is his forte.

  • AdoK

How sweet it is to be loved by…you!!! Michael.

  • abbysee

Michael is exactly what his backstory tried to get across. He is ‘everyman’. The Jimmy Stewart type. Strong, loveable, eager, patriotic, family man. I don’t doubt his sincerity, you can be sincere, and still have your own interests at heart. I don’t think that anyone is black hearted enough to not have strong emotions and wishes of goodwill for our soldiers after visiting Walter Reed. I think he’s a good guy.

  • cookcricket

Michael Sarver is a good guy! Abbysee, you just made me realize why my hubby liked Michael so much (but saw some weakness in his singing after going into the top 13). My hubby is a huge Jimmy Stewart fan!

  • NewFan

I still think it should be public speaking. Just like Jimmy …
    Mr. Sarver goes to Washington.

  • Thea

10 extra points to Kris and Matt for NOT using the trite “true American Idol” expression ;)

  • SexyEvey

I think (for some reason) reading how Michael spoke of the wounded vets being the “true american idols” was very VERY touching and eye opening for me. I can imagine all those guys sitting around talking about how humbled they are by the wounded vets admiring them and how the term American Idol should really refer to those sacrificing their lives for our country. It was probably a day in which they will never forget and will always keep them grounded no matter how huge they may all become. I really appreciated how Michael put that paragraph together… heartfelt and eloquent.
