The Scratched Kelly Clarkson/Chris Daughtry Duet is Not Going to Waste

Remember back in October when I reported on a possible Kelly Clarkson/Chris Daughtry duet?

Later on, it was rumored that the song, meant for Kelly’s upcoming album, was scratched.

The tune, “Temporary”, was co-written by Idol judge Kara DioGuardi and Nick Lachey. It’s now being reported, that the song will appear on Lachey’s next album.

Forget Simon! New American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi is the one getting all the attention.

The singer-songwriter recorded a duet for Nick Lachey‘s upcoming album, Coming Up For Air.

“She and I wrote it together,” Lachey told Access Hollywood Friday. “Initially, just in the studio, we thought, ‘All right, let’s sing it together and then we’ll maybe find someone else to be on it,’ but she did such a great job on it.”

His track with the fourth Idol judge is called “Temporary,” and Lachey said they both had a great experience producing the song.

Poor little rejected song finally finds a home.   I’d still love to hear the Clarkson/Daughtry version…

    Seriously. Me too. I’m hoping the Lachey version goes nowhere so Kelly and Chris may be able to record it down the road.

    Seriously, I think a Clarkson/Daughtry duet would have been a surefire hit, or at least buzzworthy enough to warrant more than the treatment it got. If the problem was with the song, I’m surprised they didn’t pick up on it before the recording took place, and if the problem was not with the song, then by golly I want to know what it was.

    Maybe it just didn’t fit the album vibe. Or, maybe the two were concerned about hooking up with another former reality TV contestant! LOL j/k

    I would have loved to hear the Kelly/Chris duet but won’t be checking out the Lachey version.

    Wow lots of Lachey hate on here. I love Chris and Kelly, but Lachey is really awesome too. I WILL be checking it out.

    Can’t wait to hear Nick Lachey and Kara. Hope it’s a big huge hit — it would be fun to have an AI judge that has a huge CURRENT hit.

    While I love the idea of this (the joined forces of the biggest male and female stars Idol every produced), I’m fine that it was scrapped. Both are beyond Idol and this duet (had it been released) would just resurface the “Idol” tagging.

    No one who got their start from Idol will ever be beyond or above it. I will never support an artist who forgets where they came from. And I don’t see either Kelly or Daughtry as that type of artist or person.

    So you mean all their fans are still Idol fans? That is what I meant with “beyond”. That doesn’t mean that they have to forget where they came from either but they have to establish identities outside of Idol and IMO both did that already. No one can and should latch on forever to the “Idol tag”. You can’t just depend on that for your career forever. You need to establish yourself as an artist outside of Idol. Idol is just a launching pad not your clutch. Isn’t a dream for every Idol artist and their fans that go beyond the Idol fanbase and be treated by the music business as not just some Idol winner/contestant but rather as an artist? How many fans cheer when they hear their favorite being introduced as “recording artist ____” rather than “Idol winner _____”?

    Well idol or not, I’ll bet they rocked that duet. I’m hoping their version will leak somewhere so I can hear it.

    I know lots of people who love Daughtry from radio and have no idea that he was on American Idol (probably same for Kelly) because they don’t watch it, but do buy music they like that they hear on radio. Just sayin…….
