The Hatch, are next. They all live together in a loft in New York City. They sing à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Use Meà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ by Bill Withers. There is some good musicianship here. But, besides being real cute, the lead singer

I didn't know this until last night, but according to Wikipedia, the Hatch's singer is Michael Keaton's son. With some investigating around the Web, it seems Wikipedia is correct.

It will be interesting to see each band do a Bob Dylan cover this week. I think Light Of Doom may be doomed on this one, but we'll see.

So far, Dicko is my fave judge & Tres Bien is my fave band. But I always did have a thing for Ernie Douglas.

But you may have given Northmont a tad too much credit calling their first song an original. I think it was a cover of a Matchbox 20 single, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Long Dayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ .

That's what I was thinking too. The song sounded really familiar when they did it, and I was almost sure when I watched it again that it was a Matchbox 20 song.

Come to think of it, that band is pretty reminiscient of Matchbox 20... just not as good, IMO. I didn't see what others are seeing in the lead singer. *shrug*

I love it that traditional bluegrass, blues rock, and big band are being brought to the forefront...very refreshing. Being a rocker from way back, I think the Light of Doom are a fine bunch of musicians. Now I just need to hear the Flight of Icarus done bluegrass style. :)

Franklin Bridge promises to be the breakout band here. I love their blending of rock and soul, and can't wait to hear what else they have to offer. I hope they do well. I too am concerned about the low number of bands of color and was worried for a minute there would be none at all. I can only surmise that there were not that many applicants. Maybe next year..

Also, ITA with your description of Sixwire - no edginess to be found.

Thanks for the recap.

ETA: Though the makeup was ruinous for them, I wish the Zombie Bazooka Patrol could've advanced to the top 12 - terrific musicians they are.

Good one, MJ. I agree with you on most counts. However, I was completely unimpressed with anything about Northmont. I thought the lead singer was not particularly good (off-key quite a bit) and was a huge poser, and the backing band pretty much sucked. And all the drama.... :rolleyes_wp: I am glad they did not make the final cut.

Sixwire -- Lead singer = Sawyer. Oh YEAH! There were other guys in the band??

I felt the standouts of the night were the Clark Bros., the Muggs, Tres Bien and the bluegrass group.

The Likes Of You may be good, but I just cannot tolerate looking at another bald-guy singer! Ugh!

All the talk about the girl group -- uh, The Go-Go's? Vixen? The Bangles? What?

I happened to be home so I watched and was pleasantly surprised. I was ready to not like it and if they started with the lame bad band overkill I was turning it off. Instead the show moved right along and was entertaining. I have already picked out a couple of bands to watch..not sure I will be voting but will watch if I am around the house on a Friday.

I am surprised that they put this show on Friday night...kiss of death in TV land.

Maybe it's because I've got kids around that age, but I thought Light of Doom rocked. They reminded me of the Naked Brothers Band. And, yes, I'm saying that like it's a good thing. Eh, takes all kinds, I guess. :)

I was meh on the bluegrass band until the singer offered up the impromptu "Like a Virgin." Gotta give him points for that.

The poor ratings are troublesome. Would they cancel the show without completing the season? I'm really curious about how the theme nights will play out, and I'd hate to have the plug pulled before we got a sense of them.

I have no idea why The Likes of You had such an abbreviated clip, but here they are on YouTube:

I thought they were pretty good.

Haven't finished reading yet, but I just had to say, "Ernie Douglas" :lol_tb: LOL, MJ - exactly!

ETA: I finished! Great review MJ. Even though I'm not a country fan, I may have to vote for Sixwire just so I can continue to see the lead singer on my tv screen; at least until Lost comes back on. The lead singer is very Sawyer-esque.
