Ted Cruz Refused to Endorse Donald Trump at RNC (VIDEO)

Donald Trump’s team allowed former candidate Ted Cruz to speak at the Republican National Convention Wednesday night, and he pointedly refused to endorse the candidate. Here’s what he said instead:

And to those listening, please, do not stay home in November. If you love our country and love your children as much as I know that you do, stand and speak and vote your conscience, vote for candidates up and down the ticket who you trust to defend our freedom and to be faithful to the Constitution.

He only mentioned Trump once, at the beginning of his address when congratulating him on the nomination. When it became clear Cruz would not be endorsing Trump, the New York delegation began loudly booing. There were also people chanting “ENDORSE TRUMP.”

Amid the chaos, Donald Trump himself strode into the hall to steal Cruz’s thunder, which he managed to do. But the damage had already been done. After a fear-mongering speech from former house member Newt Gingrich, Vice-Presidential candidate Mike Pence delivered his first major speech. As if anyone even cared at that point.

I figured the Republican convention would turn into a circus, but wasn’t expecting the dumpster fire it became. There is NOT enough popcorn…

Reports from the convention say both Cruz and his wife had to be whisked away from an angry crowd.

Maybe Cruz should have chosen to sit out the convention like Kasich and the Bushes, but keep in mind, Trump called his wife ugly and floated conspiracy theories that Cruz’s father had something to do with the Kennedy assassination…

Tomorrow, Donald Trump delivers his big address. It will be a little anti-climatic. Typically, the nominee doesn’t appear until the last night of the convention, The Donald has appeared on stage every night this week.

UPDATE: Ted Cruz met with the Texas delegation this morning, and it wasn’t pretty!

“You signed a pledge that said you would support the party nominee,” another delegate, former La Marque Mayor Geraldine Sam, said to him. “You’ve said your word is your bond. And if you didn’t believe it … you shouldn’t have said it. I supported you, and I expected you to keep your word and say that your word is your bond.”

“Hear, hear!” a nearby delegate shouted. Another let out a loud whistle, and the room broke out in applause.

“Thank you for speaking, and speaking from your heart,” Cruz said warmly before transmogrifying into his more lawyerly self.

“I’ll tell you the day that pledge was abrogated,” he said. “The day that was abrogated was the day this became personal. … I’m not in the habit of supporting people who attack my wife and attack my father. And that pledge was not a blanket commitment that if you go and slander and attack Heidi, that I’m gonna nonetheless come like a servile puppy dog and say, ‘Thank you very much for maligning my wife and maligning my father.’ ” The crowd seemed to soften. The chivalrous Texan appeal to honor was resonating with a large chunk of the crowd.
