If Taylor appeals to middle aged, nothing wrong with that. It’s a big enough demographic. I think today’s music listeners have been conditioned to think that everything has to be top 40, or fit into a neat genre, or be adored by teenagers in order to be relevant. I’m sorry but I think we’re all relevant, and will be until the day we die.

Yeah I would like him to sing Ray L. stuff. We haven’t heard the whole cd though. The first single isn’t earth-shattering but it’s pleasant to listen to. Doesn’t sound like he’s going for teenagers. Didn’t he say he’s aiming at AC? Sounds like he’s doing what he said he’d do.

The song reminds me of Neal Diamond’s “Pretty Amazing Grace.” Similar vibe, similar in that it’s a love song about a satisfying relationship, similar in being kind of witty play on words. I’m more into Neil Young than Neal Diamond, but I like that song. At this point in my life I like a love song now and then. I have a mellow relationship and like songs that reflect that.

Well said. I happen to like old school and don’t really care what gets played on Top 40 radio. Most of the (Sirius Radio) stations I listen to probably count as “adult contemporary” or AAA so I don’t have a problem with that lable.

I like WRIR, which has a vaguely Sam Cooke-esque vibe and there’s a a little of something that reminds me of a couple of Keb’ Mo’s more “commercial” songs. That said, I will always prefer Taylor’s more organic EW stuff to the protooled stuff on TH. If Taylor’s other works on the Distance are more accoustic, that would make me happy.

I did hear a clip of “Nineteen” from the new album when it was posted on the Rocket Science site – before they took it down. It was a totally different flavor form one is. I personally think both songs are better than most of what was on Taylor’s same-named release.

The whole gay thing is something that didn’t occur to me on my own, I read it elsewhere and thought, wow, if that is where he’s going with this, that will generate some publicity and maybe be a really cool thing. But it doesn’t look like it’s going that way anyway.

Whatever the case, I like the single, I downloaded it from Amazon, and I will buy the album in March. I really am looking forward to the video. I am glad he is finally making a professional video and from what I’ve read, it sounds all smoky and atmospheric, so that bodes well. And the director has a good track record.

I do not think Taylor is gay. Would not care if he was, but he’s had lots of girlfriends. I don’t know why this gay rumor starts for half the singers now. Strange.
