Couldn’t make it out to Colorado to see Taylor Hicks play the Telluride Jazz Festival last night? You are SO in luck. His set was streamed live on Ustream, and the video is available for everyone to watch. Hooray for you. Hooray for me.

I’m in the middle of it right now, and it’s excellent. Taylor’s band is off the charts. Do check it out.

    Maybe some one should send this to Durbin. He was making fun of Taylor. Taylor is 10x more talented than Durbin will ever be. Look Durbin someone who sings in tune. Amazing huh.

    I don’t get Taylor’s music. Doesn’t sound like country to me. Doesn’t sound edgy enough to be alternative pop. Sounds like a country voice trying to sing jazz. I just don’t get him. Really loved him on AI. I think his voice belongs in southern rock or country rock. He needs to forget about the soul/blues/jazz.

    It was a great show. Loved the part with Lisa Haley, the fiddle player. She is great. Taylors band is freakin great. Taylors voice is one of the best I have ever heard. He can sing anything. And he knows and understands all kinds of music and seems to love it all. The thing I like most about Taylor is his diversity, his ability to do just about anything, it really keeps things from getting boring. One trick ponies are boring.

    Fantastic Show!! This is not the whole performance however you get most of the Taylor Hicks & Band show. Telluride Jazz Fest are wonderful people they asked us as we watched the Live performance what camera angles we wanted to see!! The video had over 700 watching live last night and today there are over 500 views. Taylor and the band just rocked the place…people were yelling for him to return after he left the stage…. Got to be hard on his voice with being so high up…air is so thin but Taylor made everything work… If you haven’t watched do so.

    Put on my headset and enjoyed the UStream live jamming with Taylor Hicks at Telluride last evening. Every song was A+, the band provided stellar accompaniment and the fiddle player (Lisa Halley) was a blast and pretty dang personable.

    Thanks for posting this MJ. Taylor did get a little out of breath at the high elevation, especially after his harmonica solos. But I doubt anyone besides the fans that hear him sing all the time even noticed. He and his band are totally badass.

    He opened with an amazing ‘Compared to What’ – a Jazz classic by Les McCann. Wish that had been included in the video.

    OMG!!!! Thanks for posting this, mj . What a thrill AND a surprise to see Taylor Hicks here again! I loved this guy 5 years ago and he’s still my favorite idol – EVER! Love James a bunch, love Taylor da most! Both voices so different from the other, so easily distinguished from ANY other, both guys polarizing but both can command that stage!

    Wow, I watched the entire set. It was fabulous. When Jdurbs can make me sit down and watch his entire set, then maybe we can discuss him, until then, he can’t hold a candle to this!

    I wasn’t a fan of Taylor Hicks in Season 5. (I voted for Elliott most of the weeks.) And I was disappointed when he won, so I didn’t expect to like this concert at all. But now I see that Taylor is not a pop singer at all, and it’s really about the musicianship for him. What a great band! That sax player? Incredible.

    I wish I’d been there.

    About this band….Some may not realize, but this awesome band is basically the same band that Taylor played with pre-idol. He has been incredibly loyal to his band, and was always very proud of their musicianship.

    ETA: I should clarify that the keyboard player, sax player, and guitar player were all part of his pre-idol band.

    Great job, Taylor. Glad that he’s getting to pursue his chosen music without worrying so much about going broke, at least. There have been quite a bunch of fine musicians that Idol’s helped to solidify reasonable careers. When I get infuriated by Nigel and company, I need to remember that. Would be criminal if a guy this skilled and talented had to quit the business because he couldn’t pay his rent.

    Anybody know where I can find a setlist for this show? I like Taylor’s live show, but have seen enough that I got really tired of the material he was touring with a couple of years ago. I want to hunt down clips of any new material he might have included. (given that my first impression of him was as someone with wide and deep musical tastes, I was really surprised how little he varied his setlist in the past)
