A couple with a sad story was thrown a big wedding by Live with Regis and Kelly on Friday. Taylor Hicks performed “The Right Place” during the wedding procession. Apparently, Taylor is the couple’s favorite American Idol. Ignore the wedding stuff and just listen to the music. Taylor did a beautiful job.

Taylor Hicks – The Right Place on iTunes.

Here is a clip of Taylor Hicks and Kelly Ripa dancing at the wedding reception :

    http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid1398218503?bctid=1410474412

I have a horrible feeling that they might invite Taylor to do DANCING WITH THE STARS in the future :idea_wp:

  • CarieB

Taylor did an excellent job. The wedding? Ugh.

  • Lu

    Nice job Taylor, very nice.

  • hapi

Fantastic Taylor! and although don’t care for Kelly, the vid of them dancing is really fun.

    BTW..re dancing w/the stars note.
Hmmm. Here’s whom I think would be fun to have:
*Wilmer Valderrama (Fez) from 70′s show.
*Christopher Gorham (Henry) from Ugly Betty & Jake 2.0 on SciFi channel (yes! In college he did martial arts AND Ballroom dancing). And of course,
*Taylor Hicks. Ok he’s more a barroom boogie guy but we could watch him get his ballroom groove, and he’s fun.

  • primeminister

Taylor did a fantastic job with the song; it’s just perfect for his voice. His label should have released it as a single. Honestly!

  • primeminister

Looks like the Right Place is currently the most popular song on his album on iTunes.

  • http://blog.syracuse.com/idolthoughts/ foxydonna

Beautiful. This is my favorite Hicks song evah, and he did it better than I’ve ever heard it before. Got me to weeping (ugh). Joke about his being a “wedding singer” or parking cars or whatever, but Taylor Hicks will always be one of my favorite Idols. And so far, no one on season seven has grabbed me the way he did when I first saw his audition. That was a moment that has yet to be recreated, for me at least.

Just watched the dancing video too. What’s cool is that Taylor doesn’t skimp, whether he’s playing to a full arena or a crowd at a wedding.

  • LadyBeBop

LBB…I’d surely watch and vote for Taylor if he ever appeared on DWTS.

Too bad there’s a limit on votes on DWTS…We Soul Patrollers certainly know how to vote.

  • CarieB

I could definitely get behind Taylor on DWTS.

  • thedingoateyobaby

So now Im gonna pee on the SP parade. My friend called me and told me that Taylor was going to sing The Right Place on Regis. Of course I ran to the TV and tuned in. It was ok, just ok. I guess it was pretty but honestly, I was bored to effing tears and if this dude that I promoted at the expense of my once very reputable music appreciation doesnt do something that makes me remember why the hell I wasted what seems like hundreds of hourse either voting or watching, Im gonna have to leave him behind. Yeah, like thats gonna happen but you know what Im saying.

And BTW, he was too thin and I hated his hair. DWTS would be an awesome venue for T. OK, I just wanna see the boy do what he does best, MOVE.

  • angelia

I wonder why they called it the wedding of the century? I was under the impression that R&K did this every year around Valentine’s Day. I remember about 3 years ago that Richard Marx sang on Valentine’s Day for a wedding on R&K.

  • http://blog.syracuse.com/idolthoughts/ foxydonna

Hey Dingo… I hear you and had put Taylor “aside” actually. Maybe it’s that he’s “disappointed” us, if you know what I mean. We invested so heavily in him and expected so much. Whether it was his fault or not, he sort of let us down. I guess that’s the problem with having expectations from a person or even a situation. That’s how I feel anyway.

This feeling tainted season six and now going into season seven, I still feel the same way. Maybe I’ve cared too much in the past and am burnt out by all this Idol nonsense. I just can’t seem to muster up the same level of enthusiasm I have in seasons past.

It doesn’t seem to matter as much as it used to. I only watched a couple of the audition shows as they were aired, and didn’t watch my recordings for days after. I was “meh” over what I did see and am feeling cynical this season. I’ve even started posting at VFTW (maybe that’s my problem!). I always get into it once the top 12 are picked and I probably will this year, but for me at least, the thrill is definitely gone.

  • Ladybug

This just made me very … sad. It’s like Taylor has come full circle. I still love the guy and think he sounded really nice on R & K. (I still think he has one of the smoothest voices ever).

It was just kind of depressing, after all the hope of a bright career, to see him doing this bit on this show.

Anyway, that is how seeing this affected me.

  • jpfan

I thought Taylor sounded good. He has a very distinctive voice and can put some real feeling into it. I “never got” Taylor so I always use myself as a test of the average listener not hard core fan. Taylor needs very strong material and hopefully he’ll get it on the next album. I personally don’t like Taylor when he starts dancing but I know real fans love that side of him. I just think it makes him seem clownish. JMO.

Anyway, R&K is a high profile show and his fans should not be sensitive on the “wedding singer” thing. He’s performing before millions not hundreds.

  • saboo

Taylor’s performance was lovely and perfectly appropriate for the occasion.

Let down? By Taylor Hicks? Nah. I have more admiration for the man now, than ever. Undeservedly slammed left and right seemingly everywhere, basically a persona non grata at AI, and yet he is gracious and positive. The concerts I saw last spring were awesome, and I will pay to see him again.

AI started for me with Taylor’s audition and it ended when Simon made the horrid monkey comment to that young man at the start of season 6. I haven’t, and won’t go back as a viewer. But my interest in Taylor is as strong as ever.

  • hapi

    Go Taylor!!!!!!!!

  • Iris

I think Taylor sang a very tender, emotional, and heartfelt version of “The Right Place.” His rendition was perfect for the occasion.

And yes, first and foremost, R & K is a TV show—-so anytime an artist can get national exposure on a successful show, is a very positive thing.

  • hicksaholic

    I’m with you saboo

I think we have to remember this is a wedding where Taylor is not the main draw I thought he sounded greayt and it was very appropriate for the venue I thought he did better on the View but it was a different audience and circumstance I did think his hair was a little too short

I love to watch Taylor perform anywhere anytime- hell I may even watch a celebrity basketball game to see him hoping for a little harmonica

Dingo please watch- maybe the thighs will bring you back in

  • MN Sue

It was just kind of depressing, after all the hope of a bright career, to see him doing this bit on this show.

How could a gesture of kindness and generosity be seen as depressing? A request was made by a couple who obviously needed some happiness in their life. Taylor delivered a song for a couple in love on their special day. It’s not as though he needed this “bit”, as you say, to pay the bills. Furthermore, can you imagine the reaction if Taylor had turned down their request? I can only imagine the fallout that would have created. I admire him for keeping it all about the couple and delivering a respectful version of “The Right Place”. We fans know what can happen when Taylor lets loose on this song in concert. No worries, the bright career is still intact.

  • http://blog.syracuse.com/idolthoughts/ foxydonna

I don’t think his performing at a wedding on a popular daytime show is a disgrace by any means, and I loved the performance. It’s not like he’s back to selling his CDs out of the trunk of his car or anything. Taylor will be all right and I’ll certainly buy whatever he puts out the next time around. Still, I think I over-invested season five and don’t want to do that again.

  • abbysee

Wow, I expected to see snark and such but this pity party is just insane. I guess having gone through this with both
Ruben and Fantasia, I understand about not living up to expectations. I guess that is also what drives the claymates, trying so hard to push him to superstardom. It’s just that Taylor’s life and career is so much better than it would have been without this show. For those who thought he would be a superstar, oh well, but for those who love his voice and his music, it’s all good. Frankly the artists I love the most are usually those who never quite make the mainstream, but they never go away either. But enough of that…..

This song should have been the single. I loved this perfomance more than anything his done on TV in a long time.

Geez, I feel sorry for Taylor, if his most ardent fans feel this way, wow. Just wow.

  • Lu

I know this is off topic but the single should have The Maze… :)

I’m in the camp that thinks Taylor just did a really nice thing for some people who’ve been through rough times. I dont think it says anything about where his career is. He’s fine I’m sure. I admire and appreciate what he did.

  • KTINTN

This wedding on R&K was not about Taylor, it was about : surprise : the wedding couple. They said Taylor was their fav. Idol (actually the groom said it & so it was nice to see a young man appreciate him) and so Taylor was happy & able to do this for THEM. This was not just a gig, remember Taylor fans, Taylor performed for Shriners a few months back,Plus he did a PSA for them as well, so how appropriate this was for him to do. He was not just a wedding singer, he was a performer who had an audience of thousands.

If they requested ‘Daughtry’, McPhee or Elliott, what would the opinion be? Just because Taylor is a “celeb” does not mean his humanity has gone out the window.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I hated the R&K show, but I loved his performance. Really, he shouldn’t, couldn’t have turned it down. But the point is, if this couple had said “Carrie Underwood” or “Kelly Clarkson” was their favorite Idol, I’m afraid they would have been shit out of luck…

I’ve learned over the years is that as far as AI and the contestants I like, the fewer expectations I have, the more fun I have. No disappointment for me, at this point.

Honestly, I could never see Taylor as some huge superstar. I really could not imagine how he would carry the mantle of AI winner in a way that would satisfy everybody–fans and TPTB alike.

Having said that, as others have said, Taylor is way better off now than he was before Idol. He’ll go on to make another record and tour some more. It is all good.

  • chewsday

I, too, disagree with those who are “disappointed” with Taylor and/or his career. He seems to be doing what he wants to do, and against some odds, has maintained a positive, gracious attitude (at least in public.) The wedding gig was wonderful exposure for both his voice and his reputation as a charitable guy.

I’ll agree with Dingo on one count, however. Taylor’s hair is too short! I prefer a look that’s a little shaggier. Is he too thin? Nah!

  • thedingoateyobaby

Foxy, I couldnt agree more with what you said.

Its me not Taylor. I became far too involved and yes, my expectations were ridiculous for reasons I cant fully explain.

Yep, T is much better off now than he was just a few years ago when he was playing to dive bars with 5 drunk patrons but the CD, I cant get past the CD. I just think it sucks. We can all agree to disagree on that.

Oddly, Im much more enthusiastic about THIS seasons Idol than I was for last season. I think I may have watched maybe 4 shows last year. Well thats not entirely true, I loved Sanjaya and when he was booted off then I stopped altogether. I mean how many times could I watch the divas sing note perfect on every freaking song they did. BORING. Jeezzzzz, make a mistake wouldya.

Taylor is doing, I guess, what he wants to do but not what I want him to do and if Im disappointed with him thats my problem.

  • KTINTN

For those who may have lost faith in Taylor (this may have been posted b4) but Taylor is about to write w/ the following for his next album.

    Steve Cropper – http://www.playitsteve.com/
Member of STax Records, Guitarist, A & R man, engineer, producer, songwriting partner of Otis Redding, Eddie Floyd and a dozen others ……

  • thedingoateyobaby

I havent lost faith in Taylor….yet. Im waiting for his next CD and then I will decide. The bar is set so low I figure he has no place to go but up.

  • Ladybug

Frankly the artists I love the most are usually those who never quite make the mainstream, but they never go away either. But enough of thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦..

This is the story of my life. I like too many, it seems, out-of-the- mainstream artists.

My perspective is that I have not changed one iota in how much I like and admire Taylor Hicks. I will always love the fact that he kicked everyone’s ass on Idol 5. And I am not so stupid as to not see the obvious improvement in his performing life pre-Idol vs post-Idol.

My problem is I selfishly wanted a lot of more of Taylor Hicks. More music. More albums. The opportunity to see him in concert more than once in awhile.

I realize he will be producing music in some fashion, which I will happily add to my collection. Whether I will get the opportunity to see this great live performer tour behind the album he is able to make is still up in the air.

I do not begrudge his appearance on R & K at all. And he was, as I stated, really terrific. I think I was hoping for just a little more besides this in his post-idol life.

Back to snarking on my guy, I guess.

  • http://blog.syracuse.com/idolthoughts/ foxydonna

I really enjoyed seeing Taylor live last summer and realized that he is indeed doing what he wants to do. The crowd wasn’t huge but they were really into him and it was fun. Maybe it’s because I really do appreciate his music so much that I want other people to have a chance to experience it as well, and as long as he’s out of the spotlight, he’s not getting heard. Hmmmm…

As for the wedding, I totally agree that it was a wonderful thing for him to do and certainly, being seen on R&K was a great opportunity. And no, Kelly C or Carrie would most likely not have done it.

I too am waiting for his next CD and have a feeling it will be worth the wait. But, like Bo’s second CD, which I totally love, I doubt it will be a huge seller. Still, as others have said, he’s doing what he loves and good for him – certainly better than he was doing two years ago at this time (has it been two years already?)

As for this season, well… I am looking forward to Hollywood week and the top 24 (although having the spoilers out there has, well, rather spoiled it – I know I could have avoided them). It certainly has the potential to be the strongest season ever considering the experience some of these people have already. I’ll watch, no doubt about that. Maybe I’m just too freakin’ old to “fall in love” again!!!

  • abbysee

You know I never have wild expectations for these guys. I also know that you can’t count someone out if they don’t come out of the box immediately as you would like them to. There were alot of variables that went into Taylor’s underperforming. Some of them had to do with the climate of the time, and some of it was an idol bias towards his fanbase, and that led to him not getting a foothold into radio, which he needed.

If Taylor continues to tour and do his thing as he did last year and the year before, I think he could just luck up on a decent radio hit from his next, and who knows from there. The one thing I know is that we all love idol comeback stories. Or comeback stories of any kind. Why not Taylor, there was something that attracted so many to him, why can’t it reignite? I am not saying he will be the next Daughtry, god forbid, but what about a Broussard/LaMontagne kind of artist? That’s more my type anyway.

Lu, I love the Maze too, that was a good choice for radio as well. “Baby, you got me all caught up…….” yep they missed the boat imho, there was some radio hits on his and Kelly’s cd, don’t get what goes on in with the decision makers sometimes.

I still enjoy the show, but I probably won’t vote my fingers sore as I did in season 2-5. So far I have seen anyone who has engaged me as much as Taylor did from the audition on, only Fannie and Taylor had me from the start like that.

  • cricket

Let’s face it , most of the music bought in this country is bought by younger people who have tastes that are mostly beyond my comprehension and they will never ” get ” Taylor Hicks. The fact that he has sold 700,000 units is great. He is in a much better place than he was pre-idol. He is unique in this day and time and I appreciate him for what he is.

  • http://blog.syracuse.com/idolthoughts/ foxydonna

I voted like crazy seasons 2-5. Last year, I voted for Sligh the week he was eliminated and Melinda during the top three. That was it. I wanted to care, but those were the only two that really interested me enough to make the effort.

    RE:

OK, exactly what do you want him to do that he isn’t doing ? ( let me guess, you want him to sell over a million records and he’s only sold 700,000 ?). I have to guess that because what most of the complaint about him is.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I didn’t think there were any songs on Taylor’s album that would make it on Top 40. Maybe adult Top 40, but even that is a stretch.

I think his handlers should market his next album to Adult Alternative and then take it from there.

  • http://blog.syracuse.com/idolthoughts/ foxydonna

Totally off-topic here (sorry MJ), but Obama is kicking ass tonight – won Nebraska, Louisiana, and Washington. Here’s something bizarro for you. In the city of Syracuse where I live the vote was split between Hillary and Barack 6001-6001. Isn’t that weird?

  • MN Sue

Agreed MJ. If Taylor has any hope of getting played on the Adult Alternative station in my area he better have an acustic sound with great lyrics.

  • jpfan

Taylor’s fans had huge sales expectations for him. I think a lot of his fans never listened to Top 40 (don’t blame them) but it was kind of obvious his stuff would never get played there. I’m not sure what Adult Alt is but it sounds right for Taylor.

  • Lu

What is Adult Alternative? What kind of artists get played on those stations?

  • MN Sue

Lu, Colbie Callet, Newton Faulkner, Sarah Barellis, Landon Pigg, Patty Griffin, Brandi Carlile to name a few.

  • Lu

Thanks MN. I hear Colbie on top40 and AC too.

I’m happy that the couple got their wish to have Taylor sing at their wedding. I’m sure it meant a lot to them. It was great that Taylor agreed to do it for them.

Taylor looked about 55 years old while he was performing. Yikes!

  • http://inkdbylilyanna.com carolina

dingo, I just love ya but, precious….

this wasn’t about you or (sniff :sad_wp:) me –

go to the regis and kelly site, there are video’s from the beginning, chosing the couple, dresses, rings and such a sad story. They requested Taylor and he came. Doesn’t get much better than that.

BUT, if you can’t cling to anything else remember that Taylor isn’t limited, he has both heart and soul.

  • http://inkdbylilyanna.com carolina

Lu! Elliott is just tooooooo precious. Curly locks~!

(Taylor, call Elliott’s hair guy/gal…whatevah… . there was this one too tiny of hunk of hair that hung in the middle of your forehead. . . reminded me of the Adams Family guy fighting male pattern baldness. Lose it. thanks in advance, Carolina).

I’m not certain if this will be the case. It really would depend on their schedules at the moment. If they have other engagements, yes the couple would be out of luck if indeed they were their favorite idols. But same would have been true of Taylor Hicks. Had the wedding been scheduled at a time when Taylor was on his concert tour and geographically far away, the couple would be out of luck too.

Conversely, I don’t believe that Carrie and Kelly would turn down the request of this couple if their PR people had been contacted by Regis and Kelly to sing at their wedding if their schedules were free at that time.

I’m not sure what song Carrie or Kelly would’ve picked from their albums if they sang at the wedding ( I’LL STAND BY YOU perhaps for Carrie …. ).

What I want from him is the sound that rivited me to him in the first place. I want HN Rehearsals style, I want Aint No Sunshine, I want the growl and the rawness that is for ME, his trademark not the over produced syrupy sound I got on that CD. I want the PTFM Taylor. I want the Happier With Him Taylor. I dont understand why this is so difficult to understand. I want the Taylor that I became addicted to not the watered down version they gave me on the CD. I want the magic back but Im not sure thats possible. It may have been a once in a lifetime thing I experienced.

  • UpNAtom77

Taylor did a very heartwarming, thoughtful thing for this couple–it was never about him being the focus, he was there to make the couple’s day even more special. And he did a wonderful job. IMHO, I have a very good feeling that “The Right Place” will now become a popular wedding song all across the country this year. :)

As far as the hand-wringing about him not being a mega-star…eh, that really doesn’t bother me at all. Personally–I’d much rather see Taylor be a “smaller” star and be happy, free, and able to make the music he wants to make, than for him to be a superstar but feel miserable and limited.

Now as far as the constant bashing from AI, the media, etc? I DO wish that would stop! He simply doesn’t deserve it.

  • Easy

I love the Taylor Hicks CD and look forward to more music from Taylor Hicks.

These fans who think Taylor owes them something make me laugh.

  • Little Boy Blue

I understand and that’s what a lot of his fans like too. But remember, the sort of sound that you love isn’t going to sell millions. Today’s CD buyers and radio program managers don’t dig this type of music. That’s all I’m saying. If his fans who love that style are willing to buy his records, I’m sure he’ll still make close to gold, but a platinum seller is going to be a hard climb.

And of course, because he won’t make platinum, he’ll still be called a FAILURE no matter what.

  • Easy

    Wow. Thanks for the scoop.

Seems like a perfect fit for Taylor. I’m really hoping the collaboration with John Mayer finally happens on this next record. And I’d love to see him work with Rob Thomas again, if that’s possible.

I have to say I’m very excited for this next record. I don’t know if it’s going to sell very well, but I’m betting the music is going to be outstanding to this Hicks fan.

  • thedingoateyobaby

LBB, Im not trying to be argumentative here and I dont know why you think that I would measure his success in numbers of Albums sold because I wouldnt. In other words, if Taylor cut a record that was like what Im waiting for and it didnt sell to mainstream, then he keeps people like me happy and I will continue to buy his music. Im still not convinced that mainstream would not like some of what he does best but Im not sure cause he hasnt put anything out that even I could wrap myself around.

    >>I understand and thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s what a lot of his fans like too. But remember, the sort of sound that you love isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t going to sell millions.>>

He isnt selling millions anyway so why not make his base happy. I mean yeah, his CD sold 700,000 or something like that but that was out of anticipation not because it was that good. We are the ones who bought that crappy CD in the first place and if he puts another one similar to that POS out then he will have lost this fan. I dont like to be taken and if he does not go back to his roots, back to what got him recognized in the first place by people like me for example, well then as time passes his chances of making more than 2 major CD’s will have vanished. (Im not counting the 2 inde CD’s he cut which were, IMHO, very very good.

Im not expert but I think its crucial for him to get back to the studio and make some real music similar to what got him there in the first place. For the record, I loved heart and Soul but thats just me. I hope he gets to collaborate with people who will have name recognition but I dont expect him to go Platinum thats for sure.

  • thedingoateyobaby

    >>These fans who think Taylor owes them something make me laugh.>>

Easy, Taylor owes me nothing but if he wants this fan to continue to take a chance on him and buy his music then he has to do better than what he did. If he is happy with what he did on that CD then Im speechless cause I think he is capable of so much better. Thats why Im disappointed. I have been to the mountaintop so to speak and I have seen and heard the power of Taylor. Its been a long time since I took that trip and its the reason I continue to listen to his Inde CD’s and his old bar room music. I think it was some of his best stuff.

He owes me nothing but that works the other way around as well.

  • Little Boy Blue

Just curious Dingo — exactly what part of the album did you not like ? There are 13 songs (one a bonus ) in the album.

Are you saying EVERYTHING in the album is crap ? Or did you at least like a few ?

Your answer to that question will help Taylor’s handlers design the next set of songs in his second endeavor.

Let me tell you my personal take :

    1) RUNAROUND — I Love it ( I’ve always been a sucker for big, rousing horned pieces ).

    2) HEAVEN KNOWS — Hey, I loved Ray Charles’ What’d I Say — why not this one ?

    3) DREAM MYSELF AWAKE — I’ll pass

    4) GONNA MOVE — This version is ( as Randy would say ) — Ai’ght. But I’ve heard better versions (e.g. Susan Tedeschi’s for instance).

    5) WHEREVER I LAY MY HAT — I didn’t like Marvin Gaye’s song, so why would I like this ?

    6) GIVE ME TONIGHT — I loved it. Throwback dance music. But then for those who love acoustics, this is going to be heresy. This piece makes his album a little confusing because you don’t really know what Taylor wants to be musically.

    7) JUST TO FEEL THAT WAY — Yes. Loved it. It ain’t HEART AND SOUL but hey, it’s a dramatic and soaring ballad.

    8) THE MAZE — Yes. Loved it. Again, it ain’t his style, and he’s trying to experiment. Some of his “pure” fans will hate it. Me, being more eclectic, loved it. But again, he doesn’t define himself musically here.

    9) SOUL THING — I confess I loved his original version over this one. This modernized one has too much electronic synthesis to me, and I missed the guitar lick in the middle when he sang the phrase “IT AIN’T NO COUNTRY TWANG”. Plus, I prefer the Sax solo to the electric wah wah in the middle.

    10) PLACES I’VE BEEN — I always skip this part when it’s on my car CD ( Dianne Warren and Taylor Hicks are like oil and water ).

    11) THE DEAL — What’s not to love ? This is Taylor Hicks through and through.

    12) THE RIGHT PLACE — The best cut of the CD period.

    13) HELL OF A DAY — Didn’t like this version. Prefered the plaintive wailing of the original.

Overall the main complaint you can have about the album is this — Taylor’s style is neither here nor there and there is no DEFINITION of what kind of music genre it is. You can’t pin him down. It’s like a mixed bag of adult contemporary music being played by a DJ on Sunday — dance music now, acoustic later, big band next….

But hey, for me, its still a listenable album.

No offense to Daughtry fans ( because I like him personally ), but like Chris Sligh ( who reviewed both of them ), I still prefered Taylor’s crap to Daughtry’s best seller. Daughtry’s songs have an eery sameness to them the moment you progress through his album. But hey, sameness appeals to the modern ear, what can I say ? And get this — Daughtry doesn’t try to “experiment” with other genres or types of music. He sticks to his persona and who he is. He’s rock and he rocks. Taylor on the other hand tries too many things and too many sounds and pleases only his diehard followers.

Now Dingo m’lady, tell us which songs in his album are crap and which songs in his album are acceptable to your personal ear…

    OMG.

People are entitled to their opinion! DO not beat a dead horse. Don’t try to change opinions. It’s a waste of time and boring to read.

LBB – ENOUGH! We didn’t need a track-by-track rehash of Taylor’s album, not only is it off topic, It’s pedantic. STOP IT.

    Pedantic.

Shit, I hate when I have to break out my dictionary.

Thats my word for the day. The things I learn at MJ’s place.

Now I gotta go campaign for Obama, my new passion of the moment.

I personally cannot stand Taylor’s voice, it grates on me like nails on a chalkboard. To me he sounds perpetually congested, like he needs to blow his nose or something.

The Right Place is a beautiful song and Taylor sang it beautifully. Loved it!

Taylor’s strength is in performing! Everything that was mediocre to most on his CD came alive on his tour.

Taylor has lots of irons in the fire including a soon to be released DVD that “shows” what a touring phenomenon he is.

His new CD will be filled with music that will thrill his touring audience. If it catches on the CD market that will be a bonus.

I’m happy that Taylor is happy. His money is in touring and this is from his own lips. He has ignited the Asian market and I’m sure Taylor’s style will slowly ignite those who have a chance to see him on his DVD and pass the word along.

Taylor’s goal was always to be able to make a living from performing his music and I think he has accomplished this. I’m happy :)

One final comment from me on this topic. I compare Taylor’s first CD with Bo’s in that neither truly showcased the elements that made these guys so appealing on Idol. I didn’t hate either CD, but was disappointed in that neither was “authentic.”

Bo’s second CD, ‘See the Light,’ is much, much better, and while it didn’t sell millions (or even hundreds of thousands) it represents Bo so much better than did TRT. Bo’s happy, his fans are happy, and he’s touring in the spring. No, he’s not at the top of the charts, but this time, he wasn’t forced to compromise, and I’ll bet he’s not complaining one bit.

If Taylor’s second CD is more reflective of his true style, I’m sure his fans will react the same way Bo’s did (and the majority of critics as well). Will it sell millions? Probably not, but that’s not the issue anymore. It’s about these people as artists who happened to end up on a hugely popular TV talent show and who are now celebrities whereas a few years ago, they were unknown outside their region. Yeah, there’s a little selling of the soul involved, but now at least, Bo is comfortable with where he is professionally and I think Taylor will be as well. I look forward to his second effort.
