Taylor Hicks Moves Show to Paris Las Vegas in 2013 (VIDEO)

American Idol season 5 winner, Taylor Hicks has not only signed a year long extension with Caesars Entertainment to perform his act in Las Vegas, but he’s moved the show to a new, larger venue.  Read the press release below, and watch Taylor chat about Idol and more with FOX 6.

“American Idol” winner Taylor Hicks is kicking off the New Year by moving his popular Las Vegas show to Napoleon’s at Paris Las Vegas beginning Monday, Jan. 21.

Hicks, who previously performed in The Indigo at Bally’s Las Vegas, recently signed a year-long extension with Caesars Entertainment through 2013, making him the first “American Idol” winner to secure a long-term residency on the Las Vegas Strip. In addition to Paris Las Vegas, he will also continue to take his talents to other Caesars properties across the country throughout the year.

“Taylor has been playing to sold-out crowds at Bally’s Las Vegas since he opened in The Indigo last year, so it only made sense for him to move his show to a larger venue at Napoleon’s at Paris Las Vegas,” said David Hoenemeyer, regional president of Bally’s Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas. “With its large windows overlooking the ‘streets’ of Paris, Napoleon’s is the perfect location for fans to enjoy Taylor’s signature roadhouse style.”

Taylor Hicks is the first “American Idol” winner to secure a long-term residency in Las Vegas and is quickly becoming one of the most popular acts in the city. One of the most beloved “American Idol” winners of all-time, his residency serves as a homecoming of sorts, as Las Vegas is where Hicks’ journey to fame began. He was in New Orleans the night before Hurricane Katrina. With his flight cancelled, he was given a free airplane voucher. Hicks used the ticket to travel to Las Vegas, where coincidentally “American Idol” auditions were being held.

From the start, Taylor’s material on “American Idol” set him apart, with a unique take on southern soul, R & B, country and blues. More than 63 million votes were cast and nearly 37 million viewers tuned in to crown Hicks the Season 5 winner of “American Idol,” making it one of the most watched television events of the decade. The applause hasn’t stopped since he stepped off that stage. Less than three weeks after Hicks’ Idol win, his debut single, “Do I Make You Proud,” entered at #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, Pop 100 and Single Sales charts. Coinciding with the single release, a cover story named Hicks as People Magazine’s “Hottest Bachelor of the Year.” His self-titled album, “Taylor Hicks” (Arista), debuted #2 on the Billboard 200 and was quickly certified RIAA platinum.

On Broadway, Hicks starred in the hit musical, “Grease” as Teen Angel, and when asked to join the national tour, happily agreed. The 18-month tour connected him with fans across the United States and Canada.

Hicks, who hails from Birmingham, Ala., was destined for the musical stage from an early childhood. Focusing on music full-time, he then became a fixture around the southeast, playing concerts and club dates with visiting stars like James Brown, Tom Petty, Jackson Browne, Robert Randolph, Keb’ Mo’ and Widespread Panic among others, and released two independent albums “In Your Time” and “Under The Radar.” These albums were compiled and released by Vanguard Records as “Early Works.”

Congrats to Taylor for being the success he has been in Vegas and for Caesar’s Entertainment for making the right decision when they extended his headlining residency for their hotels .. first Ballys and now the newer and more prestigous Paris Casino!  Bigger stage, bigger crowds! I’ll definitely be planning a trip this year even if I have to hitchhike to get there! Ha!

I am so glad for Taylor Hicks, one of the best in the entertainment world. As shown in Indigo he has a powerful voice and qualities that have brought people from all over : such as performing In The Ghetto, nineteen and many more. You dont want the show to end. With a larger stage, I hope he has space to put in his dance moves. He brings us all into his world and shares the laughte and tears of his experiences. I say bring on more taylor!

Can’t afford a trip to Vegas this year.  :(

However, he’s appearing at other Caesars casinos this year.  I think the closest one to me is across the river from Louisville KY.

First time I saw Taylor live was in Louisville.  I think it’s time for another road trip.

Great news for Taylor.  I liked him a lot on AI, I thought he was a great entertainer.  This is a perfect fit for him.  Kudos.  Maybe if I’m in Vegas this year, i’ll check it out!

Taylor puts on an great show, and the audience loves him.  I saw him at Bally’s and plan on going to Vegas again to see him at Paris, which is a much nicer upscale casino.  Congratulations to Taylor – well deserved!

  • teekee

  • abbysee

….and yet he is the butt of Idol jokes and considered one of the least successful Idol winners.  We always knew that live performing was his love.  Congratulations to him.

  • MissMyEm

Congrats to Taylor.  I liked him best in his season.  I’m glad he made a successful career for himself after he parted ways with Idol.  Just goes to show you maybe the voting public does get it right.

So glad that Taylor is getting the success he deserves. I have seen many tweets from his shows in Vegas from people who thought he was outstanding. One of many was from the lead singer of the Little River Band, who said he could “restore your musical soul” . Taylor has been disrespected at times, there was never any reason for it.

I can’t wait to get back to Vegas and see Taylor’s show at the new venue.  We saw him last summer at the Indigo and he rocked the place.  Taylor’s version of In The Ghetto with his unique arrangement was worth the whole trip!!

I haven’t been to Vegas in a while, it seems like a good time to plan another trip. I’d be excited to see and hear Taylor again. It’s been too long.

There goes Taylor, continuing to prove to all continued success after Idol comes in many forms. Each should be recognized, respected, and celebrated. Congratulations Taylor on your Paris Las Vegas residency. I couldn’t have happened to a more talented guy!
