attends Bama Rising: A Benefit Concert For Alabama Tornado Recovery at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex on June 14, 2011 in Birmingham, Alabama.

Bama Rising, a concert that took place in front of about 13,000 people at the BJCC Arena in Birmingham Tuesday night, is expected to raise more than $1 million according to organizers.

Taylor Hicks, Bo Bice and Kellie Pickler joined a slew of artists who performed in front of concert goers who paid between $25 to $1000–all to benefit survivors of the terrible April 27th tornadoes.

Alabama, Brad Paisley, The Commodores, Martina McBride, Montgomery Gentry, Sara Evans, Sheryl Crow , Dierks Bentley, and The Blind Boys of Alabama were some of the other performers. Bo Bice sang “Sweet Home Alabama” and debuted a new song, “Crimson Red, White & Blue.” Taylor Hicks performed “Nineteen”, his ode to US servicemen and women.

Would have loved to have been there! I know from experience, how much the victims will appreciate the help the funds this show raised will provide. I read the relief concert Ruben & Taylor did Sunday night, brought in 3 tons of food for the victims. Good on ya’, idol peeps!

I understand the concert was very well received and lasted past midnight! The attendees definitely got their money’s worth.

Taylor Hicks also performed 7 Mile Breakdown from his album “The Distance”.

The Alabama Idols have been doing an excellent job supporting the victims of the tornado. I’m very proud of them.

Well done to Taylor, Bo and Kelly. I applaud their efforts.

As opposed to many charity type functions all these performers donatedtheir time for the cause.

That is freaking awesome. A few of my favorite idols doing something for a great cause. Gotta love ‘em!

Thanks mj for the info on the Bama Rising. Loved the pictures of our idols. There are videos on youtube of Taylor Hicks singing 19 and Seven Mile Breakdown. He got a standing O on both songs. Great cause and a million dollars was raised. Way to go.
Kudos to all the country artist that were there.

What a great line-up. That must have been an extremely fun event to attend. And, they obviously did a fabulous job with the fundraising end. So, kudos to the organizers of this event, and to Bo, Taylor & Kellie (and all of the other artists) who gave of their time.

On a side-note, I think Picker looks gorgeous in those photos. Marriage must agree with her :).

They not only gave their time, but apparently paid their own travel expenses, according to the local news.

Anyway, it was sold out so I wasn’t able to go. Apparently, they released some side stage tickets in the afternoon, but by the time I got out of my meeting, they were gone.

Spense, Pickler looks fab. I agree.

Hoping “Crimson Red White and Blue” means Bo is Tide fan. LOL. Hope more videos surface.

ETA: The news also claimed the group Alabama initiated the concert. Many of the artists have ties to the state, but not all. I think Sara Evans is married to a former Bama football player.

Affirmative on Sara Evans and it’s also true the group Alabama initiated the concert. What a great lineup and it sounds like it was a fantastic show that raised a lot of money for people who will need it.

    Then I’m doubly impressed.

I’m sorry you didn’t get to go pj :(. I imagine tickets for a show like this would go pretty quickly.

I can’t make out all the lyrics on Kellie’s new song Stop Cheatin On Me (Or I’ll Start Cheatin On You) but I really like the melody and it’s definitely old school traditional country just like she promised!

Here’s Bo’s new song, Crimson Red, White, and Blue. He said he wrote it on the spur of the moment for the benefit last night.

Am so enjoying all the wonderful reviews of this sold-out event and kudos to ALL the artists who gave their time and talent to raise money for this worthy cause ……… special shout-out to Bo, Kellie, and my favorite idol of all time – Taylor!

  • caroleinfla

Taylor was introduced by former University of Alabama football player Major Ogilvie-who made some tornado relief related remarks-

    caroleinfla,

Thanks for the link to Taylor’s performances (“Seven Mile Breakdown” played automatically following “Nineteen”)

That man is born for the stage – he’s so at ease and so entertaining. Dancin’s gotten better since Idol, too. LOL

  • JOJOSIE

Thanks for posting the Taylor vids. Taylor was my first Idol love and I haven’t forgotten him. Would love to see him live again so hope he has a show near me sometime this year. ‘Looked like a great show and money raiser.

Well done to Taylor, Bo and Kelly. I applaud their efforts.

What a bunch of great people with so much talent. It was Kellie, not Kelly, right? Kudos also to Ruben for his time with Taylor, too. I would have loved that concert/fundraiser.

MJ, is there an address, email, or website that we can use for a donation?

I think Taylor surprised a lot of people last night who hadn’t kept up with him after idol.
