Dude never fails to make me laugh. But in a good way.

Yeah, he's great live. I'm not saying he's going to turn you from a hater to a fan, but if you like anything about him at all, see him live. You'll like him more.

Gingerly, I realize that playing harmonica & guitar simulataneously is common. It's just that, for completely non-musical me, that I've always been astounded that the performer, be it Dylan, Lennon, or Hicks or blues guy on the corner can do it. My attempts to play an instrument have required total concentration, so doing 2 different ones at once, even though harp is sort of just "breathing", is just an impossibility.

Like Chewsday said earlier,
<blockquote> With Taylor, I never know what Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m going to get, which is one of the reasons I enjoy him. There are quite a few idol peeps I like, but, Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s live performances are the only ones Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll travel out-of-state to see.</blockquote>

Taylor is the ONLY Idol that I will travel out-of-state to attend a show...

Despite the fact that I live in Fairfield County, CT, I consider myself a NYer, by virtue of the fact that I live so close to NY...
I mean, Hartford, the capital of CT, considers my part of CT as part of NYS... NYS, on the otherhand, KNOWS that my part of CT, truly IS part of CT, and as a consequence, it seems that NOTHING ever gets done in my part of CT...

For me, to go to NYC is no big whoop, as it is less than 90 minutes away...
The fact that I went to see Taylor twice in CT (both at opposite ends of CT from where I live), and MA twice (Cohasset & the Big "E") is HUGE for me...

I cannot wait for Taylor's new album, and his tour (whenever that will be) to promote it...

I saw Taylor 5 times for "<strong>Taylor Hicks</strong>" and 4 times for "<strong>Grease</strong>"...
May "<strong>The Distance</strong>" bear similar good fortune for me...
I hope to take my Dad to go see Taylor again on tour for "<strong>The Distance</strong>..."
I am hoping to take my Aunt to see Taylor on tour also, as she has only seen him on Broadway in "<strong>Grease</strong>," so I want her to to experience Taylor as TAYLOR...

I don't think Taylor has any idea what the lyrics to this song are. I've never heard him sing anything approaching the lyrics on the recorded version. I still like the song. And I agree that Taylor seems more natural in the latest round of interviews. He's not doing that lean thing and shouting Soul Patrol at me, which is a very good start towards getting me interested again.

I liked this performance. I always liked this song a lot. And I even liked his cavalier attitude with the lyrics. Good old inarticulate Taylor. I still love his voice.

It seems this could have been any bar performance in the pre-Idol days, and that gives me a kick. I don't know what's in his head these days, but he just seems happier and more natural. I do think that whatever happens in his career, he is in a good place and at peace with himself and his music, and that is nice to see. Sudden fame can be a wild ride, at least that's what it looks like from the outside, so it's nice to see somebody land on their feet after some bumpy patches.

For the record, I liked the recent snippet of his new song too and think this upcoming album will be something I can get into.

He played a little loosey-goosey with his own lyrics there, but wow the simultaneous guitar and harmonica-that was good.

if Taylor comes near you go see him live. I have family and friends that are not Taylor fans and once they see him live not one has said he wasn't great.

Thanks, poporange :) I liked the version of The Fall I saw on youtube much better than this.

I'm a bit surprised at all the amazement of him playing harmonica and guitar at the same time. This is standard operating procedure for most of the musicians I go to see. Now, I need to say here that I don't go to any pop shows, nor even many rock shows anymore. Most of who I see are classified as alt-country or americana. The harmonica/guitar is the norm for this genre.

That really was rushed and hurried, like so many other times I've heard Taylor post Idol. But dayum, the harp/guitar jam was hott.

JudyOhio, I concur. I like very little pre-Idol Taylor and prefer the AI Taylor. Hated the cheaply produced freshman CD, though he did what he could with it. I just want to see that intense focus that he so masterfully displayed on the show. I want the raw, gutsy, foot-stompin', bluesy AI Taylor. We know he's a terrific bandleader and has undeniable charisma. I'm not giving up just yet.

Love this song - my favorite Taylor original. Love the jazzy Latin feel and what he does with his voice on it - uses it more as an instrument than a lyrics-delivery device.

Awww! Thanks for posting that, MJ. Taylor is by no means for everyone, be he sure 'nuff is for me. He always puts a smile on my face.

He was ripping through that song, but I do think his time was limited.

I am a BIG fan of his early stuff. Hoping his new album taps into that vibe.

JudyOhio:

I don't think Taylor will ever be what you seem to want him to be. The AI Taylor isn't the REAL Taylor as fans have come to know him. He did what he had to do to win Idol. But the pre-Idol Taylor - which drove many fans to vote like mad for him - and post-Idol Taylor aren't the same thing as the AI Taylor. Yes, his voice on some of those AI songs is fabulous. But his voice on other songs he does is fabulous, too. I'm afraid that those who are looking for the YASB and Something Taylor might never get what they want from the post-AI man.

Maybe it's the price he has to pay for being able to inhabit the two worlds, so to speak.

This isn't my favorite version of HOTYL, but it made me smile. Taylor is a free bird with his music. Reports are that he is ill and he himself has said that he is tired, both conditions which could have affected the performance. Still, it's vintage Taylor, doing it his way and never the same way. I love it!

Love HOTYL. Fascinates me how he plays both instruments at once. Too bad about TeeVee timing. Yes--- Live is the best way to experience the woo of Taylor. So glad to see him and all of the upcoming appearances and releases. I'm even going to return to watching Idol this year. He is supposed to be on in March.

If you are curious about seeing him live & a show isn't coming near you, check out the Live Concert DVD he's releasing this March - Whomp at the Warfield. I saw it on cable & it was a great show - really reminded me of the shows I saw.
