Taylor Hicks took part in Live with Regis and Kelly’s special “Dating with the Stars” week for Valentines day. And, uhm. Yikes?

But you know, the man is promoting his upcoming record The Distance, due to drop March 10. Whatever it takes, I guess.

Below, watch Taylor, interview the 3 ladies picked for the contest. The questions and answers, obviously scripted, are totally lolz-worthy, but in that squirm-in-your-seat embarrassing sort of way.

The brunette on the far right was so eager to appear on the show, she was spamming every Idol board and blog in existence, including this one. I deleted all her posts and then banned her. Heh.

Fun Fact: Randy Jackson was host on Friday, but he didn’t say anything about Idol beyond the whole a-boy-is-gonna-win blah blah blah deal…

After the jump, watch Taylor on his “date” with the blond in the middle, which aired the next day. Not quite as embarrassing. But still. On Monday March 2, Taylor appears on Regis and Kelly again to perform his single, “What’s Right is Right.”

  • Easy

    LOL

    He’s a trip.

I always wanted to hear him do Sitting on the Dock of the Bay. It’s right up his alley.

  • KTINTN

2 things; the album drops on March 10 (AOL will stream it week of March 2) and he’ll be back on R&K March 2.

  • JulieR

OMG, that date was adorable. Any date that includes that view of Manhattan and karaoke led by Taylor = priceless.

Really looking forward to his new release!

  • Lera

I think they will be going on a 2nd date!

  • hicksluvbug

I thought they looked adorable together. What a fun date! I loved how Taylor’s music was playing in the background. Can’t wait for the 10th for The Distance and all his upcoming TV appearances to promote it. Gotta love Taylor!!!!

  • JulieR

Lera – you may be right about that 2nd date. :-)

  • Little Boy Blue

OK folks, I asked this question before but no one seems to know. Maybe this time someone in the know will tell us.

What ever happened to his previous girlfriend — Caroline Lyders, the Wisconsin News lady ?

  • folk

wow…either taylor is a better actor than i give him credit for…or they ended up going on a real date.

  • Paula

Looks like it was a fun date, and I loved hearing his music played in the background.

Perhaps he was clued in about #3.

  • tierbee

Aw, that was actually really sweet, lol.

  • CRB

Taylor’s a pretty good actor. She was pretty cute.

This was a lot of fun and good publicity for Taylor. The best part of the appearance is the 36 sec web interview by Kelly during the commercial. I must have watched that ten times and really laughed out loud. It is very genuine.

PS How do people know about his private life????

What ever happened to his previous girlfriend à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ Caroline Lyders, the Wisconsin News lady ?

My guess is it either wasn’t very serious or she was scared away by the Soul Patrol’s obsession with proving she was a fake girlfriend.

  • neonorange

The date vid was cute. The interview not so much. He definitely chose the right one.

  • http://stores.ebay.com/BookWomanBlues-Book-Nook Bobbi

Taylor’s a good sport and it looks like they had a good time. Not hard to do in New York on somebody else’s dime and with a driver and car at your beck and call! It was fun to watch. I’m a lot more interested in seeing him when he’ll be back on singing!

  • jersey

It was cute. Yeah, he definitely picked the right one. I hope he was clued in about number three – yikes!

  • dancingqueen

It’s good publicity on a show with a lot of viewers, and with the CD due out – I say grab it. They seemed to have a nice time, nothing was embarrassing, and they got it all for free. It was great to hear Taylor’s music as background and to finally hear him sing “Dock of the Bay”.

  • majordude

Bachelorette #3, please tell us about yourself…

“I’m a stalker from the internet, Reg. I obsess over Taylor Hicks and AI blogs. Oh, and the lyrics to my favorite song include, ‘Who gets cut when the knife is dull?’… hey, where is everyone going? Why are you all backing away?! Hey!!!”

    :help_tb:

  • JudyOhio

Aw, I totally enjoyed that! They seemed like such a natural fit. Cute couple, hope they do have a second date (and more). Taylor seemed to really like her and didn’t seem to especially be acting at all. Anxious to hear clips of his new album. Oh my, I think I’m fallin’ for Taylor again…….help!!! lol.

    ROFL ROFL good one! :)

  • Layla

    how tacky was THAT? *sigh*

  • Ladybug

Oooohhh. This had the potential to be lame squared, but it actually was not so bad. Well, the date part. The girl was very cute. And Taylor is totally charming. In fact, it was saved by the charm of both of them.

  • dante

This was totally fun to watch – he picked the right girl IMO. He is such a good sport and looks even more handsome and very happy! Thanks for posting this!

  • http://jgrollersellshomes.com juliegr

R&K (and especially Kelly) love to have Taylor Hicks on their show and have given him some good TV availability time.

The “Dating with the Stars” segment was a fun event and IMO Taylor made right choice with bachelorette #2. The contestants seemed to be in on the fun and approached the whole “date” as a fun evening. Bachelorette #2′s delight in winning was obvious — everyone should be so lucky on a “blind date”. ;)

  • JOJOSIE

I was wondering if he was partial to the California girl cause he’ll be out there performing in Grease and if there was a spark he’d have a chance to pursue a realtionship. It’s hard to tell much on one date. Thought it was fun and got me watching R&K which I don’t always do. I’m glad March is coming soon as I so need a new Taylor CD. I’ve actually worn the one in my car out, it just doesn’t play right any more. I had a extra in the house so I’m not without my favorite traveling music.

  • snoozy

    oh dear, that was corny.

  • Little Boy Blue

RE: My guess is it either wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t very serious or she was scared away by the Soul Patrolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s obsession with proving she was a fake girlfriend.

This pretty much guarantees that Taylor will either have to find someone who doesn’t mind the Soul Patroller’s obsession, or he’s destined to be a bachelor until his star fades from the limelight.

  • skylight1219

What a great way to kill 2 birds with one stone. Taylor gets to promote his album and has a fun date to boot. Not bad PR, IMO. It looked like they had a lot of fun. If he wasn’t acting, I’d say he enjoyed their date as much as she did.

Did you all notice he was carrying her purse when they were getting off the water taxi? LOL

  • hickifino

She’s lovely and he’s charming. They make a nice couple.
He was singing at the karaoke bar; couldn’t help himself! Stopped being on a date and started being an entertainer. Had the crowd going with Dock of the Bay. Showmanship galore!

  • jokiebird

This whole thing just makes me angry. I’m married and can’t participate.

But Taylor *is* on my list of five. Laminated and everything.
    :-)

  • Suzanne

When she helped him with his golf swing, I really laughed. She is, as my Grandpa would say, a “hot ticket.”

I hope they go on another date.

    Oh–and bachelorette no 3–what a dullard.

  • majordude

@hickifino – “Dock of the Bay”? Are you kidding me?!! If people like Hicks, Aiken and other AI contestants want to be taken seriously or have a long term career they have to stop the karaoke remakes.

  • http://myspace.com/morganmadelynne marymagdalene

    majordude:
Bachelorette #2 happens to be from San Francisco, so I thought that “Dock of the Bay” was rather apropos… :smile1_tb:

  • Paula

If people like Hicks, Aiken and other AI contestants want to be taken seriously or have a long term career they have to stop the karaoke remakes.

This was a fun date for both of them – not a performance.

  • gingerly

Dear God, Please never let my child get enough of a taste of fame/fortune that they feel the need to do this to gain more.
    Amen

  • Lera

I just watched this again and I noticed something. When the bachelorette’s got up to dance, noticed how they stepped forward (not to mention I’m sure Taylor saw them on the monitor too). Taylor could actually see them. That wall dividing them wasn’t very long. Taylor saw the BOOBS and said yeah baby! She turned out to be great for him. She seemed down to Earth and not intimidated fan type gal.

    Good one

  • Grammie Kari

It is always good to see Taylor and even more so, to see him having fun. This was not an act. If anything, he may have held back which means a second date is a must. Get rid of the cameras and enjoy yourself!!

  • abbysee

If this is the worst thing he’s ever gonna have to do, then he’s getting off easy. I thought it was cute. He picked a cute girl. They’ll have a nice couple of dates. She’ll have something to tell her grandkids and several million people saw a side of Taylor Hicks they might not have gotten from idol. He’s charming and attractive. I say win, win for everyone involved.

ETA: That was one helluva date. Showcased NY very nicely, thank you. I hope they had a blast.

  • luci

yeah i agree she was the best choice.

  • Lu

That was really, really cute. He definintely picked the best one! Bachelorette # 3…. zzzzzzzzz

Taylor plans good dates! If I ever start dating again, I’ll have my date contact him for pointers!

  • Glamour

Seemed a little staged to me and I didn’t see any chemistry between these two. Number #2 was definitely the best choice out of the three. They played his music in the background, so that’s good publicity for him. It’s all good.

  • calimari

He definitely picked the best of the 3. Bach #3 might as well have had a Soul Patrol T shirt on. Practically every answer she gave was like “I’m your #1 fan!” Smart to steer clear of her. They looked like they had a nice time. Fun publicity for him anyway. Better than a dunk tank or celebrity fit!

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

Cheesy, but kind of entertaining. The date looked staged, but it had to be for the cameras.

  • abbysee

#Three was totally skeery. The song alone made me want to cue the Twilight Zone music.

The date was staged, but it looked like they both had a good time. That is what dating is all about. Not a pre-engagement, just two people getting to know each other.

  • Crazymomelon

    Awwwww..
    I thought it was great.
Much better than it could have been, for sure!
He definitely picked the right bachelorette – though I wouldn’t be at all surprised to learn that he had some help with that.
They played three of Taylor’s songs during the footage!
Wins all around..good looking people having a good time…plus some nice promotion.

  • Paula

Seemed a little staged to me and I didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t see any chemistry between these two.

Since thee was a camera on them for the whole date, I wouldn’t expect chemistry to be shown. It looks like they had a fun date, which is what it was supposed to be.
