Taylor Hicks began a nationwide concert tour at the Highline Ballroom in New York City.

To get a taste of Taylor’s freewheeling style, that owes much to jambands and 70′s style rock, watch a few videos from last night’s concert after the jump.

Check out Taylor’s tour schedule here.  And this week, I’ll be posting my exclusive interview with Taylor, so watch for that…

Taylor – Man of All Genres. Hold On To Your Love – always fantastic. MJ shot one of the all-time best vids of Taylor performing this, back during the “07 tour – he threw everything, but the kitchen sink, into that one.

Wow, Taylor sung Bulletproof. Liked it a lot. I think Taylor is trying to send a message. Good for him. I’m liking the snark.

I wonder if Taylor would ever consider going more bluesy/country and stop trying to do the pop thing. I think he would have tons more success. For some reason the pop/lounge act just does not suit him very well. Just my opinion, of course.

Wow! That’s great! Bulletproof, he did a great job with it. I’ve got to see this tour. Looking forward to the interview too!

A direct interview with Taylor Hicks — well, YES!, I am very interested in that.

Bulletproof was awesome there were rumors he was going to do it and he didn’t disappoint. Loved it!

12 days to my concert date!

Can’t stand Bulletproof, but Taylor’s voice almost makes it listenable.

Love the vids! Thanks for posting them, MJ.

Thanks so much for the videos. Next best thing to being there.
    Waiting for the interview.
Love Taylors voice. He can sing anything.
And he does do the blues and country. Listen to Maybe You Should on you tube. Fantastic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7VTCCS6_ro

Bravora performances. HOTYL is an original from the early Taylor Hicks albums but the new touches and “tags” make this song very contemporary and continuously enjoyable. I, too, remember when Taylor performed HOTYL in his first tour in Cohasset, MA (filmed by MJ!!! — and it was a HOT show-stopper). Love the calypso beat and dance steps. ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2F85HZ4E1Eg&feature=related

Taylor’s 2010 tour is bringing some of his new and old favorites to the audiences who love the old music. The disco beat and easy danceability of “Bulletproof” is a win-win for Taylor and his fans. Can you just hear it in the clubs or on the radio?? Sounds like a possibility.

    Thanks MJ.

This was an INCREDIBLE concert, and I am SO GLAD that I was there!!!

I love Bulletproof and I love that Taylor sang it. I’m almost tempted to go to his Birchmere show now but I don’t know if I’ve forgiven him for the whole glittery suit/ice cream cone Grease thing.

  • tyrpen

haha I’ve never heard pop quite like that. Love to hear him back doing his music again. And I love Bulletproof. Great take on that song.

Interesting idea to do Bulletproof. I didn’t think it worked at all, but it was a creative idea.

I thought his best performance from the past few days, by far, was Love The One You’re With. Upbeat R&B in a certain range is his territory. Otherwise, his voice can sound forced and even unpleasant. I hope things work out for him on TV. Based on the performances above, I wouldn’t go see his concert but I would see him in a nice beach bar where I could have fun and dance to his music.
