Tate Stevens Takes Phillip Phillips’ Place on FOX New Years Live!

Due to a scheduling change, Phillip Phillips will no longer be playing Fox’s New Year’s Eve Live!, but while the special loses an American Idol winner, it adds an X Factor champ, Tate Stevens. Whoo hoo. Hm.

Marlon Wayons has been added as host to the 90 minute broadcast, originating from the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

Lifehouse and Carmen Electra will also perform. Fox’s cameras will also cut to the ball drop in New York City’s Times Square at midnight.

So instead of Phillip performing “Gone Gone Gone”, we’ll have Tate Stevens regurgitating one of his boring X Factor covers instead? Ugh. Do I really need to cap this?

Sigh. I hope this was a real scheduling change, and not a “scheduling change”. I too would have loved to hear a live rendition of gone gone gone. But I guess Tate is okay.

  • Anny_nanny

I would hope that PP will be able to stay home with his family.

  • girlygirltoo

This is a nice gig for Tate, but I wonder what the scheduling conflict for Phillip is? In terms of exposure, he isn’t going to get a bigger NYE’s gig than being on network tv. And as I said in the headlines thread, I don’t think he could get away with dumping the FOX gig for appearing on one of the other network NYE shows (unless he never signed a contract).

Maybe some sort of private gig that would pay him beaucoup bucks? Or maybe he’s just wants to go home for the holidays? Guy is probably exhausted.

  • girlygirltoo

Maybe Tate will perform his new single? Oh wait…he’s supposed to premiere that in that Pepsi commercial during the Grammys, right? Oh well… (maybe they changed their mind about that and decided to premiere it earlier? Nah, probably not)

i never watched x factor this season so i dont really know, but can someone explain to me why this guy won.

  • http://flamingnose.blogspot.com Scott

I say good for Phillip!  I like him, and I remember the debacle that was that show when David Cook was on it 4 years ago.  It was horrendous.  David did great but it was torture watching the rest of that show. And although we loved seeing DC on TV, many of us DC fans joked that it was embarrassing to be associated with that show.  Maybe Fox has improved their NYE offering but I say, good for P2. He’s doing great anyway- he doesn’t need this one.

  • mmb

    Carmen Electra??????????????

  • Larc

Scheduling change or conflict is usually a lame excuse to cover a true reason.  Assuming FOX didn’t decide they wanted Tate instead of P2, I’m guessing something has come up that makes it necessary for P2 to drop out.  Hope it’s not some sort of recurrence of his medical problems.

  • jpfan2

Wut? I think P2 is tired. Nothing else makes sense.

  • kmd23

Good for Tate. This is a good gig for him.

Maybe Phillip’s people looked at the roster and said, “Nah”, you’re better than that.

Good for Tate. The people who voted for Tate are the same who voted for P2. Therefore, they are ok with this change. lol

    he isn’t

Assuming FOX didn’t decide they wanted Tate instead of P2,

I think that’s a safe assumption. I don’t like P2, but a guy who has stayed in the top 10 for 5 weeks and had a massive hit single has to be a bigger draw then some dude from a show with struggling ratings.

I guess they might have thrown it as a bone to XF to try to up its profile for next season. Although, the FOX NYE is always terrible with horrible ratings.

Maybe they let P2 go so he won’t be associated with the wretched train wreck.

Whatever, it’s a win-win situation. Tate gets some much needed exposure (anything is better than nothing) and P2 gets to spend his NYE doing something more interesting/profitable (even if it is just staying home). There is no saving FOX’s NYE show so that’s a total wash.

  • breakdown

Maybe Philip doesn’t want to be cold :). Outside at night in Las Vegas at the end of December is not warm! I wish Lifehouse wasn’t associated with what will probably be a train wreck.

  • YankeeFan08

Lifehouse? Carmen Electra? (What does she even do?)  Yeah, if I were P2, I would probably pass on it too.

  • Trina

IMO Tate needs this gig more than Phillip. and I wouldnt be shocked if Home’s success could help P2 get a very high paying, possibly private gig. Fox NYE isnt a huge deal (and has always been a hot mess) but good on Tate for getting this because its still something for a brand new reality show winner and good on Fox for actually giving a crap and throwing him a bone which is more than Melanie has gotten.

  • fuzzywuzzy

    lmao! Good one!

  • bridgette12

LOL! This is P2 were talking about.

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

Hmmm, Tate Stevens or Phil Phillips? I think chess is much more interesting ;)

  • durbesque

This is good news.  I wouldn’t be surprised if Phil’s management introduced the ‘scheduling change’ to avoid premiering GGG on a crappy show that nobody watches.  I expect Tate’s single to be the same as all his covers, but not as good.

  • mmb

Having recently been subjected to a “live” Carmen Electra performance I can attest to what she does:  she apparently has a new,  perfectly awful, single.  Which she completely lipsynchs, while wearing a skimpy/sexy outfit and throwing her hair violently around while two super skanky looking dancers/strippers gyrate alongside her.  It is really hard to describe the experience properly.  Oh and apparently she is dating Simon Cowell?  So I guess she is doing that too.

     Wanted is Love

@pphillipsfc @Phillips On facebook Phillip’s uncle said he decided he needed the rest before he starts his tour.

  • http://twitter.com/ladymctech ladymctech

I may actually tune in now.

  • fuzzywuzzy

lol So much for a “scheduling conflict”.

  • durbesque

So now they introduce a new character into the plot.  Uncles come in handy sometimes.

  • jpfan2

P2 is very smart. Passing on this mess only helps. And Home is still killing on iTunes. Save GGG for IDOL or a better gig.

  • IrisandLilies

Well, now I can keep with my tradition of getting a good night’s sleep on New Year’s Eve.  Phillip’s scheduled appearance on Fox’s New Year’s Eve show was the only reason I had for staying up to midnight this year.

  • ptslittlecomment

Since Simon Cowell and Carmen Electra are dating perhaps Simon cut them a two for one deal that Fox could not afford to pass up!

  • fuzzywuzzy

I think that a reality show with P2’s extended family (+ Hannah) could be quite entertaining. lol

  • girlygirltoo

What is Carmen Electra going to do? She’s not a singer…at least she isn’t as far as I know. She’s hosted tv stuff before, of course.

  • elliegrll

I would be sad for Phillip, but the Fox NYE special is the worst telecast of the night.  They have never figured out how to put on a show that resembles the ones on ABC and NBC.  And unlike those two, the Fox one never generates any buzz or ratings.

  • durbesque

    The Dukes of Hazzard.

  • chillj

Entertaining, yes, but probably the end of the rising pop career.

  • potatorocks

     How tired he must be.
I was gifted Philip’s cd for christmas.  The person who gave it said they had to go to several stores as it was sold out.I have taken over a family member’s new over the ear head phones and am enjoying it more than I imagined I could.   I encourage everyone to invest in good head phones.  I had no idea.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ACMLXLYSSX73RNYQOUZWSO2I4U Enough already!

All these Fox music contestant show suits seem to be in bed together.   Getting crowded.

  • maymay

After spending almost one yaer competing on American Idol and doing non stop promotion, PP needs rest before next tour. That is why he won`t be on Fox New Years Live.

  • TheOther

Someone who sells 3M+ on their first time out, probably has no problem getting booked for gigs.

  • Listening

Hmmm wasn’t Carmen Electra like a back up singer to Prince/ The Aritist Formally Known As Prince? For some reason I got that idea stuck in my head like I heard it in passing a long time ago.  I don’t know maybe i’m getting her confused w/ someone else.

But anywho I had no idea she was still performing singing/dancing.

Umm I think the last time I heard of her she was dating Dave Navorra a famous rock guitarist. I thought they had had their own reality show at one point. Oh well she just seems like a random choice rolled out of nowhere.

  • Listening

Huh a scheduling change is keeping Phillip Phillips from appearing on a FOX show. I know i’m a cynical girl and all but does this smell of politics to anyone else? American Idol the show that gave Phillip his platform to a huge audience is on FOX. Shouldn’t there be some kind of loyalty. I would think FOX takes precedence over any other schedule, unless it has something to do w/ family. At least in the beginning you’d think there would be some gratitude/ good-will towards FOX. That’s why I think some behind the scene politics is going on like FOX made Phillip mad and he’s getting back at them by not showing up b/c otherwise wouldn’t anything fox affiliated be top priority.

Hmm it just smells a bit fishy to me, anyone know exactly what changed?

  • fuzzywuzzy

I don’t think that a reality show would be a good decision for P2’s career, but it’s ridiculous how his girlfriend and family members are gaining public attention.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I’m not sure how “fishy” this change is, but the term “scheduling conflict” is a euphemism routinely used by publicists when an appearance doesn’t happen for reasons other than illness. IOW, the excuse rarely has to do with a real scheduling conflict. lol

  • kmd23

I don’t usually like the FOX New Year’s Eve show but I will flip the channel to try and catch Tate. The last time I watched it was when David Archuleta was on the show 2 years ago.  I think that most of these NYE shows are not that great. I watch Anderson and Kathy on CNN most of the time.
