Taraji P. Henson’s I Made It Monologue

Taraji’s monologue was a big production number with…wait for it…a gospel choir. Eh. I didn’t find this bit very imaginative.

Connectatron – In order to form robot champion Connectatron, Mavis (Taraji P. Henson) has to attach her spaceship as the left leg but she’s not really feeling it.  If only every Transformers movie was like this. One of the funniest bits of the night was tacked on to the end of the episode.

Teacher Trial

A lawyer (Taraji P. Henson) tries to prove a teacher (Cecily Strong) took advantage of her student (Pete Davidson) but instead learns the affair only had positive consequences. I’ll admit, sheepishly, that this skit made me laugh–mostly due to the comic timing of the actors involved– but I was also uncomfortable. The notion that there are no negative psychological repercussions when a woman in power takes advantage of an underage boy is a really a myth that should not be perpetuated.

Jacob the Bar Mitzvah Boy (Vanessa Bayer) explains Passover to Michael Che with a little help from his dad (Billy Crystal). Unpopular opinion ahead: Billy Crystal is the WORST.

Game of Thrones

In a new episode guest directed by John Singleton, Game of Thrones introduces viewers to South Centros. Hilarious skit, but why wasn’t Taraji P. Henson front and center? Bonus: Cameo by Jaime Lannister, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau!

Their Own League – Five women (Vanessa Bayer, Cecily Strong, Kate McKinnon, Bobby Moynihan, Aidy Bryant) form a baseball team and advocate for women’s rights – well, not all women (Taraji P. Henson, Leslie Jones). This bit was funny while deftly skewering the racism of the time. Also: Bobby Moynihan in a skirt.

QVC – Actress and singer-turned-designer Claudette Fontaine (Kate McKinnon) appears on QVC to promote her new product, the 3-way poncho, but has a hard time remembering what the three ways are. The MAGIC of Taraji P. Henson and Kate McKinnon TOGETHER mocking QVC and their dumb products. Kate’s loopy character–obviously inspired by Liza Minnelli.

Janelle (Sasheer Zamata) gets a lesson in dancing properly like a woman from her mom (Taraji P. Henson). WAIT! I wanted to see Taraji twerk! Heh.

Hollywood Game Night – Vin Diesel (Taran Killam), Wynonna Judd (Aidy Bryant) and Common (Jay Pharoah) face off against Nick Offerman (Beck Bennett), Marion Cotillard (Cecily Strong) and Wanda Sykes (Taraji P. Henson). Again I WANTED MORE COOKIE!
