SYTYCD 13 – Top 8 Results and Performances – Live Blog and VIDEOS

The show begins with a group number featuring the All-Stars and their kids choreographed by Brian Friedman. Zoot Suits and stuff… – Watch the Video

Our judges: Nigel Lythgoe, Paula Abdul, Maddie Ziegler and Jason Derulo has returned. This week, the kids are back with their all-stars.

Jake and Jenna – “Hip Hip Chin Chin” – Samba choreographed by Dmitry Chaplin – Cat interviews the cheeky jake, who does a Dmitry impression. He doesn’t plan on going easy on him this week. Nigel congratulates Dmitry and his fiance on their engagement! He thought the routine was “terrific.” He complimented jake on his “great little Samba hips.” Paula wants to “squish your guts out.” She calls him a “little ninja.” Maddie says “You’re on fire all the time! You are incredible…your best performance.” Jason said, “There was carnival written all over that.” – Watch the Video with Solo

Each of the solos will be preceded by campaign speeches. Him.

Tahani solo – “Run The World (Girls) by Beyonce. In her “speech” she scolded her mom about taking away her phone.

Tate and Kathryn – “Get Here” by Oleta Adams – Contemporary choreographed by Brian Friedman – Tate says the style is more dynamic than she’s used to. Paula loves the way Brian’s choreo is evolving. She calls Tate a “masterful” dancer. “So beautifully executed” she said. Maddie thinks the two really found their connection together. “I have chills” she says. Jason says he could not tell which was the pro. “You look like a vet up there.” Nigel thinks Tate is a step above everyone else in the competition. – Watch the Video with Solo

Sheaden’s Solo – “Lean On” by Major Lazer. Sheaden almost went home last week. I wonder if he’ll go home tonight?

Kida and Fik-Shun – “Panda” by Designer – Hip Hop Choreographed by Dave Scott – Kida is a puppet and Fik-Shun his puppeteer. Maddie loved the choreography. “Everything just looks so good! You guys are just so clean.” Jason calls them the “perfect duo.” he added, “There were some level issues…” He felt Kida needed to add some smiles. Nigel disagrees! “being a puppet, it’s really difficult to smile. It’s part of the character.” Paula thinks Kida is “absolutely thriving” and “holding your own next to Fik-Shun.” – Watch the Video with Solo

Ruby’s Solo – “The Girl’s Gone Wild” by Travis Tritt. Interesting music for a ballroom solo!

Cat pimps “National Dance Day” which is coming up at the end of the month.

J.T’s Solo – “Unsteady” by X Embassador

Jordan and Sasha – Sax by Fleur East – Jazz choreographed by Ray Leeper – The two are saxophone players. “It’s sort of confusing!” says Jordan. Jason calls it a “super dope” piece, “It had a lot of dynamics…you had fun, we had fun. Be careful with the synch.” Nigel thought it got a little sloppy at the end. “The pair of you sparkled tonight.” Paula loves watching Jordan’s personality coming out. “The showmanship was on point.” Maddie thinks Jordan continues to grow every week. – Watch the Video with Solo

Tate’s Solo – “Lorikeet” by The Ship Shape.

Sheaden and Marko – “Down in the DM” by Yo Gotti – Hip Hop choreographed by Luther Brown – It was “scary” being in the bottom two! Nigel jokes about the “old man’s pulse.” He loves Sheaden’s “animating face.” It was his favorite of his so far. Paula thinks he was “smart” in his performance. “So incredibly good tonight.” Maddie agrees. “It’s the best performance you’ve ever done. It’s stupid how good you are!” Jason loves the underdog. “Today you came and showed improvement–best performance of the night.” He compliments his “little nuances.” – Watch the Video with Solo

Emma’s Solo – “Expensive” by Tori Kelly – Tapping!

The All Stars perform a contemporary routine to “Send in the Clowns” by Sarah Vaughn choreographed by Travis Wall. – Watch the Video

Ruby and Paul – “Malevo” by Electro Dub Tango – Argentine Tango choreographed by Miriam and Leonardo – Ruby has never done the Argentine Tango before. Paula called them “wonderful” together. “Pristine.” Maddie calls the footwork “Crazy.” Jason felt like that dance was a “little vacation.” Ruby kicked Paul a lot while learning the dance! Nigel calls it “beautiful to watch…like watching a movie.” – Watch the Video with Solo

Jordan’s Solo – “Confident” by Demi Lovato –

Tahani and Comfort – “Get Busy” by Sean Paul – Dancehall choreography by Laure Courtellemont – She plays Comfort’s little sister. Jason got the choreographer wrong. NOT JEAN PAUL. It’s the song. Dummy! He loves the Carribean style to make the show. “Good job,” he says in a fake accent. The style is from Jamaica. “It’s a party dance,” says Comfort.” Paula says, “Well done.” I don’t think the judges really knew how to critique that! – Watch the Video with Solo

Jake’s solo – “It’s a Man’s Man’s World” by Seal

JT and Robert – “The Mirror” – Contemporary choreographed by Travis Wall – Robert doesn’t have a purpose in life anymore. But then he sees his younger self in the mirror and he learns to live again. The choreographers are finding expressive ways to take advantage of the age difference in these duets. Standing ovation from ALL the judges. Jason calls Travis one of his favorites. “You inspire the world,” he says. “Week after week! You’re making a grown man a little emotional.” Nigel thinks he’ll earn a Emmy nomination next year for that. JT and Robert are his favorite duo. “You are a very special young man,” says Nigel. “Stunning.” Paula calls it “Poetically stunning. That little face of yours becomes larger than life.” Maddie says he’s more than just a cute little kid. “You’ve taken it to the next level.” – Watch the Video with Solo

Kida’s Solo – “Lazarus” by Trip Lee

Emma and Gabby – “Salute” by Little Mix – Tap by choreographer Chloe Arnold Emma needs to be fierce, instead of cute. The routine is all about girl power! Nigel loved the hip hop, African american stepping mixed into the tap. “I’m loving you two.” Paula says the F words of the day are “fierce and fabulous” and “incredibly clean.” Maddie saw a different side of Emma. Jason noted that her solo was amazing too. – Watch the Video with Solo

Results! The All-Stars and their mentees take the stage. Based on the votes, the bottom two are Ruby and Sheaden.

The judges have decided to send home Sheaden. Aw. That poor kid had an uphill battle from day one, between being paired up with an All-Star who was forced to quit and very little screen time before the lives. Aw, he’s crying. – Watch the Video
