  1. Concertgoers get a soggy KISS

…The best performances were from previous à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ contestants Katharine McPhee and Chris Daughtry. McPheeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s CD may have sold disappointingly, but her early evening set with two backup girls featured spot-on versions of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Love Storyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Over Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ plus a soulful cover of Alanis Morisettesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Mary Jane.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Curiously, this seemed like a perfect time for many to go get a snack.

    Chris Daughtry took the stage bellowing through a megaphone, leading his self-named band through the punchiest rock à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢nà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ roll set of the whole event, featuring à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Not Over,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Homeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Over You.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ …

  2. Peasà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ Fergie steals the show from Daughtry

Fergie, the frontwoman of the Black Eyed Peas, didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t headline the KISS-108 pop festival yesterday at the Tweeter Center à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ that honor fell to Daughtry, the by-the-numbers pop-grunge band led by American Idol alum Chris Daughtry, the leather-lunged angst-boy with black eyeliner, a woolen hat and a heart of gold. But she stole the show easily….

….And Katharine McPhee showed promise in kicking the American Idol disease of singing like someoneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s keeping score, though her songs were mostly weak….

  3. Acts provide heat at damp Tweeter

…Closing out the night was the group Daughtry, featuring “American Idol” alum Chris Daughtry, which brought an element of macabre to the otherwise squeaky-clean show. Sporting heavy eyeliner and often sing-screaming through a megaphone, Chris Daughtry and band smashed their way through “Home,” “Over You” and “It’s Not Over.”

Daughtry wasn’t alone among the “Idol” crew. Katharine McPhee gave a performance that showed off her impressive pipes, although they seemed more fit for a smoky jazz club than a teen pop concert, especially during a cover of Alanis Morissette’s “Mary Jane.”

McPhee also had the unenviable task of performing after the Senegalese-born sensation Akon, the night’s surprise guest that undoubtedly stole the show…

    …THE COLOR PURPLE

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not sure who I was cheering for most at the finale of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“The Color Purpleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ the character of Celie, who after a life of hardship, cruelty and disappointment has finally found true happiness, or à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ winner Fantasia Barrino, whose performance in the demanding central role of Celie is a triumph…..

    …Notes: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ fans can also see past contestants Frenchie Davis in à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Rentà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and Anthony Federov in à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“The Fantasticks,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ both currently running. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“The Color Purpleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ will play Clevelandà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Palace Theatre from March 25 through April 13, 2008…

  5. THIS SEASON’S ‘AMERICAN IDOL’ TOP 10

…This year, Idol has foregone the usual cast recording CD that generally hits stores about this time.

  6. Jordin or Blake?
‘Idol’ finale promises a surprise, no matter who wins

…Like most of the other Idol producers, Frot-Coutaz thinks transparency and choice are crucial to Idol’s success — the audience’s belief that this is their show and everything is in the open. She thus expressed chagrin at conspiracy theories about the show’s voting system.

Frot-Coutaz ran through the process. “It’s not mysterious, really. Where do I start?” She explained the 800 numbers are managed by AT&T, which has agreements with the local exchanges that put the calls through. Another company, Telescope, tabulates the raw data, analyzes it by area code and turns it into results.

“But if at any point anything looks different or that we may have questions about,” she said, “we have the ability to go back to AT&T and to the labs and say, ‘We’d like to see all the minute-by-minute data on area code, whatever, 201.’ And they can dig into the data and sort of give us that level of detail.”

What would draw her attention? “Occasionally we’ve had situations where two people at the bottom were very close, so when that happens you want to go back and just make sure all the phone lines work properly everywhere so that you know, the result is the results. We’ve had a few situations that were a bit hairy. The show goes out at 6 p.m. (Pacific time) live on the Wednesday, and by the time the phone lines close, it’s like 2 or 3 in the morning. It’s actually quite a decent amount of time to do some data analysis if we need to.”…

  7. TV this week: ‘Idol’ finale should be fun
Will it be America’s teen sweetheart Jordin Sparks or that beatboxing hipster Blake Lewis?

Who will be crowned the sixth “American Idol” (8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Fox)?

It’s been one twisted season, what with toothy, faux-hawked Sanjaya stealing the show — and headlines. But these two deserve to be in the showdown, unlike last year’s winner, Taylor Hicks. On Wednesday night, the big enchilada will be crowned.

  8. How did it come down to this?

…Instead, fans are hurtled back in time for a reprise of the lopsided Season 1 finale when the versatile Kelly Clarkson routed Justin Guarini in a landslide.

Blake is clearly not in Jordin or Melinda’s league; he lacks the teen’s effervescent personality and Melinda’s expressive voice, and dresses like he rolled out of bed and fell into one of his father’s sweaters. For all the chatter about how ”original” Blake is, his beat-boxing, turntable-scratching effect is little more than dated ’80s gimmickry. His white-boy hip-hop posturing is much closer to Vanilla Ice circa 1990 than the edgier Eminem of more recent vintage.

Blake was different for Idol, but different doesn’t necessarily mean good.

Could Blake win? Would Idol risk a Taylor Hicks redux?…

…No request is too small or too strange…

…”Taylor Hicks wanted a portable steamer in his room to press his clothes instead of an iron.” …

  10. Hello Lisa B! Thanks for the Daughtry articles (and all of the other wonderful article links). Fortunately I don’t mind the less-than-stellar concert reviews, although I’m sure most readers here will absolutely LOVE them! Heh.

Speaking of Daughtry, I know how much you are DYING to see Chris and his band. Well, it just so happens Daughtry will be performing on June 18 at Borderline in London. You better get your tickets now – they’re going fast! :tongue1_tb:

I’m sure you wouldn’t be caught dead at a Daughtry concert, but I thought I’d throw a little humor your way. Have a great day!

  14. Commentary: RR Poll Projects Jordin Sparks As Next American Idol

Shock reigned Wednesday night as Melinda Doolittle, without a doubt the most consistent and most capable singer on American Idol this season, was voted off, leaving egotistical beatboxer Blake Lewis and bubbly 17-year-old Jordin Sparks with the towering voice in the finals.

Perhaps the only one not stunned in her unwarranted departure was Melinda who took it gracefully and resignedly, with a big smile and a thank you.

Many viewers have labeled this sixth season one of the most disappointing with the best singers voted off ahead of the less talented. Has American Idol become a popularity contest or is it the talent contest it was designed to be?…

‘DANCING’ SHOW GIG GETS FURTADO BUPKIS

MEMO to Nelly Furtado: Next time your manager books you on a reality TV talent show, make sure it’s “American Idol.”…

…”Loose” sold only 21,000 copies in the week after Furtado’s appearance on the show, a miserly 16.6 percent gain over the prior week’s figures, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The tally ranked as only the 20th best sales week since the album’s release on May 30, 2006.

Compare that with the sales performance of Shakira’s “Oral Fixation Vol. 2” after her appearance on “American Idol” last year, which shot up an astounding 636 percent to 81,000 copies from 11,000 copies….

  17. Sanjaya just the start: Stay tuned for a South Asian breakout

Sanjaya Malakar’s attempt to become the next “American Idol” is recent history. But what he represents is probably the future, albeit a distant one.

People of South Asian descent make up a relatively new immigrant population in the United States, just about 2 million people out of 300 million here. They don’t yet have the clout to create a runaway hit, says Aseem Chhabra, a columnist for Mumbai Mirror and freelance entertainment writer……..

  19. REALITY STARS BITE BACK AT NETWORK

    AVERAGE JOES SUE NBC

…AFTRA made headway this week by re-classifying American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Top 12à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ finalists as performers and not just amateur contestants, thus securing that they will begin receiving wages for each of their performances.

    But AFTRA still does not recognize à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Average Joeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ individuals as à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“talentà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ under its contract.

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Average Joeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ mocks The Bachelor and Joe Millionaire with a crude twist at the contestants’ expense. The undesirable dorks – i.e., overweight, underweight, buck-toothed, bad hair men – compete against male models for a beauty queen.

    Stars of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idol,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Survivor,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Average Joeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ fall under the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“amateur contestantà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ category according to the National Director of Entertainment, Joan Halpern Weise.

To date à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“amateur contestantsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ competing for a prize are not covered under AFTRA, Weise said.

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“If these individuals are determined to be employees by the Court, then the entire landscape of reality television will change,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Century City litigator Damon Heilweil says…..

  21. Z100à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Zootopia: Hilary Duff and Katherine McPhee

…Meanwhile, Katherine McPhee has also been under the microscope – with fans saying that she has abandoned her American Idol style, even going as far as calling her a sell-out.

McPhee, 23, said in her own defense: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s my first record. Everything you do the first time, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not exactly the way you want it to be. You try to not step on any toes or anything. I was like, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹I guess this is how it goes. 22. American Idol: Voyeuristic, occasionally nasty, and it works

The people have spoken and the formula has triumphed. This week, Melinda Doolittle, an unprepossessing 29-year-old black woman with hunched shoulders and one of the best singing voices to ever grace American Idol, was voted off the show. Next week’s finale will feature two better-looking, younger and more personable singers with a fraction of Doolittle’s musical talent.

Blake Lewis, 25, is a pleasant young white man who gussies up his unimpressive vocal delivery with some gimmicky beat-box moves; 17-year-old Jordin Sparks, a very pretty woman of mixed race, is sweet, sweet, sweet à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ and usually she can hold a tune. Visually, they may make for a nicely balanced duo, but you’d have to be a diehard Idol fan to find any excitement in a contest featuring this bland pair.

Of course, millions are fans à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ and with good reason: Idol has a genius for audience seduction……

  23. Good Morning Lisa B and everyone else. Well no offense to Lakisha, but I’m not sure Kelly will appreciate being described as a big girl in the same sentence with Lakisha.

For all you Bucky fans, I went to Ringtone Jukebox to download a new ringtone last night. Bucky’s “A Different World” was the number 3 most downloaded ringtone, and realtone on the site. He was the only idol in the top ten.

  24. FYI,

Chris has confirmed during an interview before the Boston KISS concert last night that DAUGHTRY will be performing “Home” on Tuesday, May 22nd during the Final 2 night.

  25. The Wise Guide

    …So what does that say about à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ?

Well, for one, the smash hit may be showing signs of wear. Some armchair critics have declared this the worst season of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ever, that the show has lost its way and allowed gimmicks to override talent.

Of course, the ratings donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t indicate thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s anything wrong with that.

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ still attracts more than 27 million viewers with each installment, making it the No. 1 show in primetime week in and week out.

But despite the breast beating to the contrary by the showà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s judges and producers, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t a talent contest. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a popularity poll of unknown singers. Heck, for that matter, the singers could already be professionals, but not very well known. A few of this yearà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s finalists did professional backup singing for major stars already.

In the end, who really cares? à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ still gets people to watch and talk. At the end of the day, thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s all that really matters anyway…

It’s been a season of shockers, scandals, weird hair and some pretty good performances on “American Idol.”

Until then, here’s what you need to know to fake it through an “American Idol” party……

  27. Chris has confirmed during an interview before the Boston KISS concert last night that DAUGHTRY will be performing à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Homeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ on Tuesday, May 22nd during the Final 2 night.

I think that was a given, no surprises there.

  28. San Jose Jazz Festival: Where is the jazz?
SAN JOSE FESTIVAL STRAYS TOO FAR FROM ITS ROOTS

…It also is being pushed to the cultural margins in this era of global corporate media, when “American Idol” and “Dancing With the Stars” seem to have the whole world hypnotized. And yet, in recent years, San Jose Jazz has done something remarkable: It has presented a practically free festival (it now costs $5 for the whole weekend) attended by tens of thousands who have practically worshiped at the altar of jazz.

But last year, something tipped toward pop. Geoff Roach, the new executive director of San Jose Jazz, booked the Neville Brothers and Dr. John on the Main Stage. I’m a fan of both. Still, why were they centerpieces of what had been a successful jazz festival?…

  29. THANK you, Squishy – nice to have confirmed for sure. I couldn’t remember if “Had A Bad Day” guy performed on Wednesday results show last year or what, I’d heard the little d was performing Tuesday, and didn’t know if he was performing Wednesday as well, or….

  30. Big cheers for Michael Jordan

  31. MJ-
I tried to wait up for you last night but when I rested my eyes for a few minutes that was all she wrote! I hope you enjoyed the show and that you and schmanda had a blast. I love to hear Elliott sing so I’m extremely biased.
The thing I loved about his show is how he throws himself into the lyrics. He’s not an “all over the stage” kind of guy and I personally think that works for him because he’s so expressive. I’ll be interested to hear what you thought. I’m so happy you got to meet him.
I liked his opener Josh Hoge too – a different sound – but good! Josh talked about meeting Elliott and then shared with the crowd that “without a doubt Elliott was the nicest person he’d ever met”. That went over very well with the local crowd!

  32. Thanks for the news, griz ~ Taylor is opening for Earth Wind & Fire, fantastic! Six time Grammy award winners ~ he’s got to be psyched!

For all you Bucky fans, I went to Ringtone Jukebox to download a new ringtone last night. Buckyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“A Different Worldà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ was the number 3 most downloaded ringtone, and realtone on the site. He was the only idol in the top ten.

  33. Listening to American Top 40 this morning. They said they’d been getting lots of requests for Wait for You. Elliott’s been in mediabase top 40 for a few weeks but this week he makes American Top 40. Way to go Elliott! I think you might be marketable!

  34. LisaB,

I guess you didn’t read yesterday’s post. Longsong had a question whether Chris was going to be performing “Home” on Tuesday or Wednesday. I just confirmed it for her that it would be Tuesday which is coming directly from Chris.

  35. Forgive me for posting my personal opinion.

    I’ll refrain in future.

I actually always catch up on the blog before putting up the morning links and find it hardly worth commenting on a redundant thread.

  36. LisaB, donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t bust any doors down getting those Daughtry tix

I’d go to be honest, but I don’t think it’s worth the airfare.

  37. MJ went to Elliott’s concert? Wow. Please do a recap. Plus I did hear E on American Top 40 this morning. Kind of the makes the whole thing feel more “real” somehow. Any spoilers on the finale? Guest stars? That kind of stuff.
Saw some nice reviews of Kat posted and I wonder if she can drop the pop thing and go more jazz/cabaret or if that just confuses her fans.

  38. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ opens the door to many wishes

    I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have just three à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ wishes. I have more. Call me greedy.

I wish: that Melinda Doolittle were in the finals for à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idol.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not that Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve been a r***d Melinda fan over the course of this season. As much as I loved her voice, she always came across with a slightly vacant stage presence. Thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s an immobility to her face à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ at least for the TV cameras à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ that suggests someone who had her mouth numbed at the dentist about three hours ago and is still waiting for the Novocaine to wear offà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦I wish: that Blake Lewis could sing. Sure, he absolutely oozes pleasantness on à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idol.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s like a cross between an energetically shaggy puppy and the sort of hip friend in high school who was cooler than you but still made a good impression on your parentsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

‘American Idol’ finalists Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis are down to the wire Words here Words here

The final showdown on “American Idol” this week comes down to a singing battle between the kid and the beat boy….

…. Unlike last year, when Taylor Hicks used all his gray-haired bubba charm to oust youthful beauty Katharine McPhee, this season’s “Idol” championship offers no such physical drama or generational battle. His dreams are coming true, lg, no doubt about it.

Sorry to disagree Folk, but Earth Wind and Fire is a legendary and highly respected r&b group who’s earned god knows how many gold and platinum albums, who’ve been around for over 30 years. To be asked to be a “guest performer” is quite an honor and is pretty impressive by most people’s standards.

I have to say they sing my favorite ALL TIME song – Reasons!

  44. and earth, wind and fire is not that big of deal people. reallyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.no one under 45 cares.

    ______________________

    Won’t even go there FOLK..

  45. Sum it up:

Okay, so here is who we have rumoured to be on the Finale so far (sources in brackets):

Doug E Fresh (MTV said it was a possibility)
    Kelly Clarkson (numerous interviews)
Carrie Underwood (notification from her sendspace)
    Taylor Hicks (Leno and interviews)
Daughtry – performance night (“the Chris Insider” and the man himself)
Britney Spears (Perez Hilton is hearing buzz)
    Beyonce/JHud (various radio reports)
Katharine McPhee (MJ poster says she knows somebody in production and Kat will duet with Blake on some songs from her album)

    Did I miss anybody?

Oh, and there is a rumours that the Beatle catalogue has been cleared for the finale. Could we be getting a Beatle’s Medley? What song can Sanjaya sing? Will it finish up with them all singing “She Was Just 17”? Some think that Sir Paul might make a surprise appearance (he does have an album coming out).

  46. Oh, and there is a rumours that the Beatle catalogue has been cleared for the finale. Could we be getting a Beatleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Medley? What song can Sanjaya sing?

My favorite Beatle song maybe – I Am The Walrus ;)

  47. and earth, wind and fire is not that big of deal people. reallyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.no one under 45 cares.

That young? I would have gone under 50.

Mind you it maybe even older, that would explain the link being put up three times in less that 5 hours.

    :lol_tb:

  48. well, folk, speakin’ for myself, I am under 45. And yes it is a big deal, given the resurgence of the popularity of these older bands. I think a lot of younger peeps are coming to appreciate the older acts. (my son and his bud’s were listening to a Johnny Cash CD last nite, lol). Anyway, John Mayer and his contemporaries are influenced by older music…they’re carrying the torch. Taylor will be riding that wave, imo.

American Idol has helped the process along. Look at all the greats who were discovered/rediscovered last year by music lovers alone….had it not been for Taylor, I wouldn’t have known how prolific the music of Bill Withers has been in the fabric of popular American music. And thanks to Elliott, I was given the genius that is Donny Hathaway. Old or new…it’s all about the music for me.

  49. Blake is clearly not in Jordin or Melindaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s league; he lacks the teenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s effervescent personality and Melindaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s expressive voice, For all the chatter about how à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ originalà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Blake is, his beat-boxing, turntable-scratching effect is little more than dated à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢80s gimmickry. His white-boy hip-hop posturing is much closer to Vanilla Ice circa 1990 than the edgier Eminem of more recent vintage.

That’s always been what hasn’t blown me away about Blake. I thought I was the only one who felt that way.

I just watched Kelly Clarkson win American Idol 1 on American Idol rewind. The voting was 58-42%- a much bigger margin then I remembered.

It would be cool to see Blake perform with Kat on the finale- I believe he said she was his favorite last year!

And everytime I hear Kat sing “Mary Jane” she just gets better.

  50. Please no Britney Spears, yucky, sounds good for the rest, but a little crowded, not a fan of these little medleys and brief song snipplets for the most part

Regarding the Taylor, Earth wind and fire gig, sounds like a great show
Have been to several concerts at this venue in Bethel (Woodstock a great little town, lots of character, hip and cool)
Dylan playing there as well this yr, will again sit thru a Bob show for my man, will make 3 so far for me (many more for him, a true Dylan freak) Frankly like the man’s songs, but not his singing
He is seeing Elliott with me next wk and has been very understanding
    so what can I say?

  51. Gotta say that EW&F and Taylor seem like an odd mix. Might introduce Taylor to new fans though.

  52. My favorite Beatle song maybe – I Am The Walrus ;)
    ____________________________

    Goo goo g’ joob

  53. I think Daughtry confirmed for Tuesday. If Doug E Fresh is there, I’m sure he’ll perform with Blake (both are beat boxers). Re EW&F/Taylor, who wrote the copy for the ad? It’s a little over the top.

  54. Blake said that Chris Daughtry was his favorite. He said it in a People Magazine article and on video on the People web site. I haven’t read any where that Blake liked Kat but perhaps he does as well.

Chris Daughtry’s favorite is Blake so they have that mutual thing going.

My favorite was probably Sanjaya. I loved the pony-hawk.

  55. Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s always been what hasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t blown me away about Blake. I thought I was the only one who felt that way.

XO, you need to be reading TWoP. They call him Vanilla Ice all the time over there.

And everytime I hear Kat sing à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Mary Janeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ she just gets better.

I hope that the record execs are listening because she needs to make an album like that next time.

Oh, and I seem to recall that the cut-off age for nobody caring what you like is 30. That’s when you become unhip/uncool/boring/near dead and ready to report to the Carousel for termination (and if you understand that last reference, you are definitely ready for the glue factory) LOL

  56. My favorite was probably Sanjaya. I loved the pony-hawk.

Well, pop that popcorn and settle in for the night. Rickey has a picture of Sanjaya wearing a mohawk practicing for the finale.

  57. Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s when you become unhip/uncool/boring/near dead and ready to report to the Carousel for termination (and if you understand that last reference, you are definitely ready for the glue factory) LOL

    :lol_tb:

  58. I think I Am the Walrus is also my fave Beatles tune – Coocoo Cachoo ;) Doug E Fresh would be cool, too. But at this point, who really knows?

It would be great if the Sir Paul rumor is true. Would be hard to top Prince from last year. I was blown away and ordered his new CD. AI accomplished it’s mission, lol. Don’t think lightning will strike twice though.

Daughtry wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t alone among the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ crew. Katharine McPhee gave a performance that showed off her impressive pipes, although they seemed more fit for a smoky jazz club than a teen pop concert, especially during a cover of Alanis Morissetteà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Mary Jane.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

I think it’s interesting that the Sun-Chronicle reviewer noted Katherine’s smoky jazz vocals. I actually enjoyed a couple of her songs on AI5. Maybe she’ll one day canvas the jazz club circuit? I hope she can have some success in the future as a vocalist, despite the fact her cd sales have been pretty dismal.

  59. RE: But these two deserve to be in the showdown, unlike last yearà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s winner, Taylor Hicks.

Some people just can’t seem to get over their fan wars from last season, even when they’re advertising this season’s finale. Makes me wonder what they think of the fans who gave Taylor a landslide victory.

    Also notice this …

Could Blake win? Would Idol risk a Taylor Hicks redux?à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

    http://www.miamiherald.com/1020/story/111539.html

Blake Lewis looks to be getting the same treatment they’re giving Taylor for being different and not the female big voiced diva type if he were to win.

  60. Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s when you become unhip/uncool/boring/near dead and ready to report to the Carousel for termination (and if you understand that last reference, you are definitely ready for the glue factory) LOL

    ______________________________

OMG…Logan’s Run? Just point me in the direction of nearest Glue Factory…

  61. Squishy: I read it somewhere that Blake was a fan of Katharine’s. I believe there was some discussion here about it- it was early in the season.

Anyway, I’m not buying the rumor about Kat singing on the finale with Blake.

First of all, the two posters who said they emailed Peisha and got replies are long-time creditable posters. I have a hard time believing they would make up something like that to get the fanbase all riled up. They would have no reason to make it up.

Secondly, if Kat were to appear there is no way she would sing “Open Toes.” She would sing “Love Story” her current single. Love Story is going for adds next week and it could sure use the boost of being performed on the show.

I still say for one reason or many reasons- she will not appear. Whether she was not asked or whether it is a conflict in her schedule we will probably never know.

  62. i thought kat had complete control of her album. she was large and in chargeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦and now she is sayign she just did what the producers told her to do, even if she was not feeling it? LOL.

There were certain songs that Kat had to fight for to get on her album, the producers wanted it to be all pop, but she wanted some R & B on it, like “Everywhere I Go”, “Do What You do”, “Each Other”. Some of the songs on the album she did not like, and she’s not afraid to say which ones, she has in interviews before. What I believe she meant, is that “Over it” would not have been her choice for a first single, but it’s what the producers wanted.

Oh, and I seem to recall that the cut-off age for nobody caring what you like is 30.

I’m 30 today, I guess my opinion doesn’t matter anymore, so why did I even write all of that. Pointless. :lol_tb:

  63. Happy Birthday Nanny!

(now get your a$$ over to Carousel for “renewal”)

  64. Now for some positive statements about Taylor Hicks…

    http://www.topix.net/content/kri/1243240143024952471924331293331756248523

    The South Mississippi Sun Herald

Taylor Hicks. Why did he win? It’s because he reached exactly what he wanted to – the Soul Patrol. He gave us what we desperately needed right now. With everything in chaos, he gave us softness, plainness and Soul Patrol. He reached millions with his kindness, his goodness and he reached out to the audience. Not glamour. The audience. God bless him and may he go far. Thank you, Taylor. Go Soul Patrol!

  65. Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s when you become unhip/uncool/boring/near dead and ready to report to the Carousel for termination (and if you understand that last reference, you are definitely ready for the glue factory)

Damn, I have 1.5 feet in the grave. LOL!

    Happy Birthday Nanny McPhee!

Some people just canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t seem to get over their fan wars from last season, even when theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re advertising this seasonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s finale. Makes me wonder what they think of the fans who gave Taylor a landslide victory

Honestly, I don’t think most of America cares anymore. Taylor won, he released his album to moderate success- America has moved on. The vast differences in the levels of successes from winner to winner just proves the point that winning the show because people were willing to vote for you for 4 hours straight does not mean you will be wildly popular outside the show.

If Blake wins American Idol does run a risk of being branded an entertainment show instead of a singing competition- because 2 years in a row the best singers will not win. The best entertainers will win.

If that happens I think we will see less and less actual singers and more peple with average voices who can sell out concerts but maybe not sell records. Just my opinion.

  66. MJ saw Elliott in concert last night and will see Fantasia in the “Colour Purple” tonight.

    Let’s not ruin the buzz!

In fact, let’s guess what Beatle song each Idol can sing.

  67. For many, many reasons I want to see Blake win. So make it happen Blaker Girls (I still don’t care enough to actually vote.) Forgot, Happy Bday.

  68. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m 30 today, I guess my opinion doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t matter anymore, so why did I even write all of that. Pointless.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Nanny Mc Phee. Are you a Taurus or a Gemini? I know you are on the cusp.

I’ll be 63 on Tuesday the 22nd and I know NOW that my opinion isn’t worth anything to anyone…. Hell, I’m on my way to the GLUE FACTORY as soon as someone will offer to drive me there…Heaven forbid I get behind the wheel of a car..

  69. If that happens I think we will see less and less actual singers and more peple with average voices who can sell out concerts but maybe not sell records. Just my opinion.

But we are already seeing them.. it’s called POP 40 radio. Just tune in to Ryan Seacrest’s show in the morning and you have these kinds of singers being played day in and day out.

  70. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be 63 on Tuesday the 22nd and I know NOW that my opinion isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t worth anything to anyoneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.

Emeraldgem, your opinion is worth a thousand hit singles to us :)
    Happy Birthday.

  71. At 8 p.m. Tuesday both of the top-rated shows square off in their finalsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

According to the TV schedule at tvguide.com, this isn’t so. They are showing The Bachelor…After The Rose on at 8:00 oppposite AI and Dancing With the Stars starting at 9:00 for two hours. I hope that’s the way its scheduled!

  72. And articles will continue to be written as long as his fans keep harping on about it and sending complaints and abusive missives in return.

Best just to read and pass along. Take a leaf out of your ‘chosen one’s’ book do not react to criticism and it will eventually go away.

  73. Are you a Taurus or a Gemini? I know you are on the cusp.

I am a Taurus, it’s the last day of that sign, so yes I’m a cusper.

I’m a stubborn bull, I’m sure some of you already knew that by reading some of my posts. haha…

    Happy Early Birthday Em!!!!!

  74. If Blake wins American Idol does run a risk of being branded an entertainment show instead of a singing competition- because 2 years in a row the best singers will not win. The best entertainers will win.

That may be true, but isn’t that already the case, regardless of who gets the title this year?

Melinda is out. Like her or not, it’s hard to argue against the fact that she was technically the best singer of this year’s group (maybe ever, if some critics are to be trusted). Either way, the winner will NOT be her.

    And, furthermore…

American Idol was billed as “The Search for America’s Next Superstar” when it originally came out, before it was trunked with the nickname of just AI. Even now, I vaguely recall it being described as the hunt for America’s best undiscovered talent, or something like that (don’t quote me verbatim). That’s a lot more inclusive than just “The Search for the Best Singer.”

  75. Emeraldgem, your opinion is worth a thousand hit singles to us :)
    Happy Birthday.

    Stephanie – Blackbird
    Sligh – Elanor Rigby
    Gina – A Hard’s Day Night
    Haley – Penny Lane
Sanjaya – All you Need is Love (because Sanjaya is love)…or the Ballad of John and Yoko
    Phil – Yesterday
    Richardson – I’m Down
    Lakisha – Get Back
    Melinda – Hey, Jude
Blake – Paperback Writer (I think you can beatbox to that)
Jordin – Helter Skelter (just kidding…) Let it Be

LOL This is crazy. I can’t do this

  77. According to the TV schedule at tvguide.com, this isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t so. They are showing The Bachelorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦After The Rose on at 8:00 oppposite AI and Dancing With the Stars starting at 9:00 for two hours. I hope thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the way its scheduled!

So are you saying the Bachelor will be on Monday and Tuesday this coming week?

  78. Sanjaya – Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. Spaced out performance style.

  79. Should not “Daughtry” be the headliner instead of bon Jovie? I remember John songs from high school but Daughtry seems more current ..

Who is Earth wind and Fire and Halloway?
They seems like musical singers from the 70’s that toured from a tie-died vw van…
Please no videos unless it is Bobbie Darren who I do know..

  80. They added The Bachelor after the final rose show this year, Emeralgem. DWTS will air after it and Boston Legal’s finale is postponed by a week.

  81. I just have to ask… why do we care about which ai6 contestant is an ai5 contestant’s favorite – and vice versa… does it matter?

  82. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m a stubborn bull, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m sure some of you already knew that by reading some of my posts. hahaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

Thank you Nanny..Hope your SPECIAL DAY is a BLESSED ONE..

I’m just two days into the Twins, but I also consider myself to be somewhat on the cusp since I can also be very stubborn..

BTW.. I came up with my SN by combining my birthstone which is the Emerald, and I my Zodiac sign.. Gemini.

  83. Not in the least Lu.

My life can carry on quite happily without ever knowing or caring.

  84. I really don’t understand the problem with Blake winning.
Gosh, they guy has proved all season long that he can SING! IMO he has a great voice. No, it’s not a power belter voice but it’s a very good one.

He proved it once again last week with three great performances.
Actually one of the things I like about him the most is his smooth sexy voice.

And he is current. Taylor was not. HUGE difference.

Blake appeals to a young crowd and his music is perfect for Top 40 radio.
Why do people always want a diva to win? Those are a dime in a dozen. Just saying.
Honestly I really can’t picture a Jordin Sparks Cd, what is she going to put on there? Power ballads or will it be a Kat Mcphee style of album? Heh. Maybe a Disney thing. I sense a Diana De Garmo kind of vibe in her.

Blake knows who he is an artist and his record will sell very well, I am sure.
I called my local Top 40 station here in Houston for AI tour tickets and she told me they thought Blake was great and that they can already see themselves playing Blake’s music. They loved the fact he is very contemporary. So there you go.

    Go Team Plaid!

  85. folk, Say, what you want but name one young act that would not want to open up for a mature group like EW&F? You offer me a ticket to see Ew&F vs. the Kiss show that was held last night, I will take the EW&F ticket in a heartbeat. And yes, I’m under 45..

  86. I read somewhere that Taylor was Ewf’s favorite idol contestant last year…
Sorry – had to do it.

Good for Taylor. I love EWF and I’m not over 45 either… good tunes – timeless.

  87. name only one act that would not want to open for EW & F….i could probably name 100s. but i could start with one you know…daughtry….move on to my chemical romance….move on to corinne bailey rae….the list really could get quite long…

the Kiss concert attracted young people who buy records. the people headed to woodstock will be nostalgics who already own records…(probably in the vinyl too).

  88. I totally understand Lu.

Re EW&F I expect Taylor is delighted, but doesn’t he need to attract a younger demographic? He’s no doubt been asked as a ‘special guest’ to help drive ticket sales of the old EW&F fans who wouldn’t bother to go to a concert normally.

Think about it how many Taylor fans have said they haven’t been to a concert for years.

  89. lisab…stop talking sense. who the hell wants young listeners who are not nearing death?

  90. Holy WOW!!!!!!!! I just ran into ELVIS in downtown Boulder, on the Pearl Street Mall to be exact. His favorite AI5 contestant…… Taylor, of course.

  91. :lol_tb: Folk.

Must catch you on chat sometime, I’ve a great marketing idea re TO’s, we’d make a fortune!

  92. i am off to a super fancy dancy baby shower. when i get back i totally expect countless posts on the wonder that is taylor. after all, get it out of your system, the AI6 finale is only this week!!

  93. This will be my last post on this topic because I see MJ’s next admonition coming…

Taylor’s fans do range from very young to very old. But the reality is most of them are MATURE WOMEN ( age range — late 30’s to early 60’s ).

These are the people who overwhelmed the rest of the other voting demographics in 2006 to allow Taylor to win in a landslide.

Are they all nearing death ?

NOPE. The average American Woman lives to be 78 years old. That gives Taylor decades of work and albums to sell.

Somebody has to meet a market need and Taylor does just that.

That does not necessarily translate to platinum albums. But hey, success is measured by other criteria, not simply album sales ( Jimmy Buffet and the Grateful Dead anyone ?).

  94. Was Celine with him Boulder?

    In all her Canadian glory….lolol.

(**ducks, knowing that my Canuck MJ friends will hurl snowballs at me for reminding all that Celine is from Canada**)

    ETA:
I haven’t said it in a while, so here goes

    BLAME CANADA

  95. They loved the fact he is very contemporary. So there you go.

    _________________________

I’m having a problem with this word contmporary,so please someone, anyone help me to understand this if you will?
If Blake is contemporary, then how come I’ve only heard Taylor on my AC station… Doesn’t AC stand for Adult Contemporary..

Also Ana, you mentioned Blake being current, and Taylor isn’t.
Can you explain why I am hearing Taylor on the radio along with Mayer, Blount, Christina, Clarkson. Are these artist NOT considered current…
Please I’m not trying to start anything, I’m just somewhat confused as to what you are trying to say…

  96. emarelgem:

Taylor’s music is old school, that’s all I am trying to say. Won’t you agree?

  97. Morning, all. :)

Seriously?? The EW&F gig is a one off gig – I’d be a bit more concerned if Taylor was going on a tour with them as a support act. He’ll probably enjoy the opportunity to open for them, and that will be that. I don’t see why it’s a huge deal that he is opening for them in the first place, but I am after all, under 30, so of course I wouldn’t understand that… :-|

They call him Vanilla Ice all the time over there.

    :lol_tb: “Ice, ice, baby…”

  98. because 2 years in a row the best singers will not win. The best entertainers will win.

I think this quote is getting quite old. Wasn’t it said when Fantasia and Ruben won..Oh yeah, it was.

Are we really going down this road again. I was under the impression that AI was about the performance of a song week in and week out and not just opening up your mouth and having a nice sound come out of it.

I look at it this way, Kelly out performed Justin and she won. Ruben and Clay is still out because they both were good and it did come down to the votes. Fantasia out performed Diana and she won. Carrie, I hate to say this, but her crown was handed to her from day one. But, she still sang her songs convincingly enough to win over Bo. Taylor out performed Kat and he won. Here’s hoping the one who performs their songs convincingly wins this week. Regardless of whether we think they are the BEST singer or not.

Even if AI was a pure singing contest, there is something to be said for a good performance. No one wants to watch a person stand in front a mike and open their mouth week in and week out. You have to sell the song.

Also, the whole cd selling stuff is another subject but it’s clear that some will believe what they want..

  99. I don’t believe Kat will be at the finale, but I was listening to her at the KISS concert last night over a live feed (i stopped listening after she came off, so i didn’t get to hear daughtry, fergie, or hilary lipsync)And through Rhianna, Akon, and Dashboard Confessionals, Katharine was vocally the best. Akon kept going BOSTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON. DC played two songs that are well over 5 years old on a 3 song set, Rhianna was just awful. (Although Sexygirl, she did do Umbrella). The crowd sang a long with Over It, and cheered during Open Toes. I think playing these radio shows is a good thing for Katharine to introduce her to new fans that are in her target demographics.

If Blake is contemporary, then how come Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve only heard Taylor on my AC station

My guess would be b/c he’s still in the competition, unlike Taylor. I haven’t heard any of the current contestants on the radio. Actually, I’m not sure I’ve ever heard Taylor on the radio either. ??

And yeah, I agree with maracaibo. Taylor sounds old school to me. And I *do not* mean that as an insult. *To me* Blake sounds a lot more contemporary than Taylor. Doesn’t mean one is good and one is not. They’re just totally different. And I like them both. :)

  101. Nothing wrong with having an older fanbase, but no way will a younger group be encouraged to follow an artist if they encounter a hoard of middle/old aged ‘bedazzled’ fans at every turn.

Support go to concerts etc but don’t turn yourself into a source of ridicule is my way of thinking.

  102. no one under 45 cares.

I do, I do. :mrgreen_wp: I love EWF! Two years ago the Al McKay Allstars (the original guitarist of EWF) performed at a jazz festival in my city. The show itself is called à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Earth, Wind, and Fire Experienceà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢, so basically they performed EWF hit songs. The crowds, ranging from teenagers like my little sister, to 20-something like me, to people my parentsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ age of 40-50 were having a blast. We boogied and sang-along to some of the most popular tunes like à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Septemberà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Boogie Wonderlandà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ . A popular mainstream local band (members are in their 20s) whose music is influenced by EWF, among others, performed earlier that day. The young crowds (teens to 20-something) went wild when they covered one of EWF songs.

Speaking of jazz festival, I just found out that M-PACT, the acapella group in which Rudy Cardenas is a member, performed in another jazz festival here in Jakarta early November last year (JakJazz 8). Actually, I already knew that the group was here as I read the rave reviews of them from people who attended the festival (I got free tickets but couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t go because of that %$%#*@! exam). But, it wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t until I read that article of Blake, which Lisa B linked this morning, saying that Blake started beatboxing after listening to M-PACTà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s music, that I realized that ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the same group! I wonder if Rudy was there as well. I love acapella music so I checked out their MySpace pageà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ Pretty cool.

Being in a jazzy mood, I decided to read the messages in the Yahoo Mailing List of Java Jazz International Festival, and found a long thread entitled à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Elliott Yamin for Java Jazz à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹08à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ! Last year I told Pam that I would like Taylor and Elliott to come and perform at that festival (their music fit in) and that I was planning on pitching that idea to the organizer. Well, it turned out I wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t the only one. Whoooà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m telling ya, there are loads of EY fans here. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m gonna pitch for Taylor too so ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d be à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Taylliott for Java Jazz à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹08à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ . Heh.

  103. Taylor Hicks clicks with fan

lol Lisa B, I’m glad most people here aren’t quite as invested as that, but I do have to bring something up about what one of the posters there said, and what seems like a general assumption about AI

I detest the bland pop singers that the show churns out and markets year after year

Kelly-while starting out in pop, has turned to the pop-rock genre that sells well, and doesn’t have a genre pop voice, that girl can change her voice from soul, to rock, to big band etc
    Ruben-R&B
    Fantasia-R&B
    Carrie-Country
I’m sorry, where are the bland popstars coming from? Although I’ll admit a lot of the top 12 every year is made up of pop singers, but they don’t win.

Even if AI was a pure singing contest, there is something to be said for a good performance. No one wants to watch a person stand in front a mike and open their mouth week in and week out. You have to sell the song.

I completely agree. This is why I never liked Carrie while she was in the competition. Yeah, she had a good voice, but so did Bo – but he out-performed her by miles. Since then, I’m sure Carrie has gotten much better at performing (obviously). But I remember thinking as I watched that season how boring she was.

I don’t listen to country music, so I’m still not a fan of hers, but when she came back on the show, she did seem like she had improved as a performer.

  105. Does anyone else think that Carrie is starting to suffer from ‘over exposure’?

Yes great that she’s done so well but you can have too much of a good thing.

    Morning, all. :)

Seriously?? The EW&F gig is a one off gig – Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d be a bit more concerned if Taylor was going on a tour with them as a support act. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll probably enjoy the opportunity to open for them, and that will be that. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t see why ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a huge deal that he is opening for them in the first place, but I am after all, under 30, so of course I wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t understand thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ :-|

I don’t think he is opening…I believe the wording is EWF with musical guest, Taylor Hicks.

  107. I’ve only heard Daughry and Katharine on the radio, actually it was on my tv that was turned to a radio station, but I hardly ever listen to radio because of the friggen commericals. I HATE IT.

  108. Even if AI was a pure singing contest, there is something to be said for a good performance. No one wants to watch a person stand in front a mike and open their mouth week in and week out. You have to sell the song.

I do agree, but I’ve always been of the opinion that in order to make it to the top 3 or top 2, you need to be a darn good singer. While the best technical singer may not always win, those who have won can sing; they just also happen to have the intangible “it” factor to go with their voice and that pushes them over the top imho. Now if someone like Sanjaya had won AI, then I’d have no qualms about saying that based on vocals, he’s would be worst AI winner ever. However, I think it’s a disservice to all the winners and runner-ups to say that so-and-so is the worst winner because of their vocals, because they can actually sing imho…

    ETA:

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think he is openingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦I believe the wording is EWF with musical guest, Taylor Hicks.

I thought the wording was “special guest?” And if he’s not opening, then he’s playing with the band – which would be really odd. No way the special guest plays after the headliners, so I’m going to guess that he’s opening.

Ok, gotta run – later, all. :)

  109. Does anyone else think that Carrie is starting to suffer from à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹over exposureà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢?

Yes great that sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s done so well but you can have too much of a good thing.

No, considering she’s 6 times platinum, something must be going right.
I think the problem with be with her second cd, if she doesn’t release it soon she might not be able to surpass her first one.

  111. American Idol: Blake and Jordin still 50/50

It seems that American Idol fans are as divided on who will win, Jordin Sparks or Blake Lewis as we are.

Yesterday we asked our readers to write us a brief email and let us know who they think will win the American Idol final. It was very surprising to see the exact number of emails in favor for Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis. Here is a taste of what some of you guys wrote to us about American Idol….

    http://www.ogpaper.com/news/news-0398.html

  112. American Idol: Jordin Sparks Becomes an Even Bigger Favorite

Opening as a -355 favorite, Jordin Sparks has built an even bigger cushion between her and Blake Lewis in the odds department, vying to become the next American Idol.

As of Sunday morning, the oldest established North American facing online bookmaker – Bookmaker.com (see website here) – has made Jordin Sparks a -400 favorite. One would have to risk $4 just to see a $1 profit…..

    http://www.gambling911.com/American-Idol-Jordin-Sparks-052107.html

  113. Okay, I’ve found a source for the “Beatles rumour”. Apparently, it was Justin Guarini who mentioned that they’d cleared some Beatle songs for the finale….interesting.

Oh, and for those of us 30 and over on the blog…here is a photo I found:

    http://thumbsnap.com/v/47noAD04.jpg

  114. Kirsten, back to your Beatle question. Perhaps a group medley to Across the Universe? I love that song, so maybe not. I don’t see how this group can put together a great group medley without a lot of help from backup singers. Actually, the girls should be okay, it is the guys that will sound tinny. Phil will have to carry the lot of them.

  115. American Idol tour

Donna Reynolds, a Syracuse woman who writes a blog for syracuse.com about all things “Idol,” said she was seriously considering not going to this year’s show. And she certainly wouldn’t have driven to Albany, as she has in years past to see the “Idol” show when Syracuse wasn’t on the tour schedule.

“Tickets to these shows have gotten very pricey, and that definitely discourages the casual fan from buying tickets, especially when there’s no big draw,” Reynolds said. In the past, “Idol” contestants Taylor Hicks, Carrie Underwood and Bo Bice have had an appeal that reached past the die-hard fans. This year, the only one who really captured the occasional fan’s attention was Sanjaya Malakar.

And that was just because he was so bad

Little plug for the hometown girl!

  116. EW&F I expect Taylor is delighted, but doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t he need to attract a younger demographic? Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s no doubt been asked as a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢special guestà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ to help drive ticket sales of the old EW&F fans who wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t bother to go to a concert normally.

Sorry, but I really doubt EW&F needs Taylor’s fans. They could have easily asked more popular R&B act that would not mind opening up for them and even bring a younger crowd with them. Contrary to what you want to beleive, EW&F is well respected in the R&B community. The R&B community does have a tremendous amount of respect for the older and more established artist, ask Fantasia. Just because they are not burning up the mainstream cd charts does not mean that they cannot draw a crowd both young and old. I see Taylor opening up for them more working to his benefit. He is being introduced to a different market who may not care for his AI image or even give his cd a listen. By him being with a well respected group like EW&F will garner him some respect in the R&B community. A community he is also trying to reach out to, hence his style of music, and the VIBE article from last year.

  117. Why can’t I edit my posts anymore? Has the edit button been removed? Don’t see it anymore.

I’m writing “This Week in Idol History,” and remembering the hoopla from seasons past. It’s interesting that, up until season four, the finale was all-Idol – lots of filler, but no guest performers. I kinda liked it better then. I think the show should be a celebration of the season and would love to see more past Idols perform, especially those who have released CDs over the past six months or so (like Kimberley Locke who could certainly use the boost). But I suppose they need the ratings to sell the ads.

  118. Perhaps a group medley to Across the Universe? I love that song, so maybe not.

That would be a great song to do. Here is a group performance of that song on the Grammy’s. Even this crew can beat that version:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwE5CXb96uw

Practice people! Even Superstars need to rehearse.

  119. Got to love Folk, she has got to be a closet Taylor fan..

Rad, I listened to a Kiss streamer online a few years back. Quite an interesing listen. It’s like an endless concert of artists who pratically sounded the same. I hope Kat was able to stand out.

  120. Beatles with AI6?

Brandon – Don’t Pass me By
    Antonella – Not Guilty
    Stephanie – Get by
Sligh – Do You Want to Know a Secret?
Gina – Here, There & Everywhere
    Haley – Sexy Sadie
Sanjaya – Dig a Pony or Besame Mucho (of course)
Phil – Lend Me your Comb
    Richardson – Nowhere Man
    Lakisha – A Beginning
Melinda – I Wish I Could Shimmy Like my Sister Kate
Blake – Shake, Rattle & Roll
Jordin – The World is Waiting for the Sunshne

  121. LOL Givein…though, thankfully, Antonella will probably not be singing. But then again, did she ever?

  122. Folk has always been a Taylor fan.

Just because some don’t stop living until the next pic/mp3/youtube/review/recap is is put up, doesn’t mean you are not a fan.

  123. Nothing wrong with having an older fanbase, but no way will a younger group be encouraged to follow an artist if they encounter a hoard of middle/old aged à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹bedazzledà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ fans at every turn.

Question is, have you been to any of Taylor’s concerts? Or are you going on hear say. I’ve seen him live on a number of occasions and the one I attended had mature, young and middle aged women. But I did not notice too many bedazzled women. Unless, you count the few who would do whatever it takes to get Taylor’s attention.

Seriously, since I don’t subscribe to the mindset of tearing down people so I can appear cool, so if those bedazzled women did exist, they had fun right along side me and the younger folks.

  124. Ardnian – cool news about the Elliott/Jazz possibility!

if my memory serves, Folk is a Taylor fan. While I do love EWF, I do agree that performing with someone that’s a little more “today” musically would be good for Taylor in the sales area. He’ll work it out if he wants to. It’s quite possible he’s totally happy with how things are going for him. I think that’s probably the case.

  125. It seems that American Idol fans are as divided on who will win, Jordin Sparks or Blake Lewis as we are.

This season’s winner may have a smaller percentage of win than even Clay and Ruben but maybe not the same degree of passion. If it is a close finish AI couldn’t ask for anything more. They can use it to whip the individual fanbases into a cd buying frizzy.

  126. Man I’m feeling cranky this morning. Sigh.

Folk, I really would like to know – in your effort to try to stop Taylor’s fans be happy for his current success (however little you may think of it), why must you post dismissive comments about the presumed musical tastes of people over 45?

  127. Yes I’m on permanent international flights attending all concerts for all the past and future idols.

Well today has finally convinced me that I’m not allowed an opinion.

  128. Let’s see. I’m a young non-bedazzled woman who enjoys music and has the disposable income to travel to see my favorite musicians perform (in fact, traveled to Chicago to see Taylor, and am traveling to both Seattle and Manchester this summer to see Blake on the AI tour).

Would I go see Taylor perform with Earth Wind & Fire? Big fat no.

Would I go see Taylor perform with John Mayer or John Legend? Big fat yes.

Of course, *I* might not be the best example, since I already own the album. So, let’s consider this:

Would my friends, who DON’T own the album, go see him if he was performing with a John Mayer or John Legend? That’s most likely a yes. Earth Wind & Fire? Heh. Yeah right.

  129. So I take it this has become a puppy and rainbow site, what a shame.

    So not for me.

Has everyone had a sense of humour bypass?

  130. Just because some donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t stop living until the next pic/mp3/youtube/review/recap is is put up, doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t mean you are not a fan.

It’s good to know that.. Just like those who choose to bring a different side to the picture doesn’t mean you’re obsessed

Anyway, I’ve always saw Folk more an AI fan than having a particular favorite. I do recall her many run-ins with Squichy over Chris and now it Taylor’s fans.

  131. WTF does it matter who you are a fan of?

    This isn’t a fansite.

We are all entitled to opinions and they don’t have to be positive.

  132. Not a problem, Lisa. :)

Look peeps who want to flame me – I know that people of all ages buy music and go to concerts. But there is a reason that advertisers reach out to the 18-49 demographic.

As just an example that is close to home – my parents would never go to a concert. Haven’t been to one in years. Don’t buy cd’s much either. As many years as my mom has watched and voted on Idol, the only cd she owns from an AI alum is Carrie Underwood’s.

My brothers and sister and friends and I are much more likely to spend the money to travel to see a musical act that we like – simply because we have the time and the disposable income to do so.

Now, I’m going to get lunch.

  133. Season 6 anyone? Anyone? Beuller! (I hate discussions about the blog)

Okay, I’m behind the times, but I just watched the Final 4 Group Number. Gah!!!!!!!!!!

What the hell happened? There was no boogie. There was no snap. There was no sex. There was no fun. There are no words for how bad that was. And the “dancing”! Did you see the “dancing”? Disco Lion was probably crying. No wonder he fell off the stage later. That was his attempt to commit suicide. Oh, and the mic issues. Gah!

I do hope that we see something a little better than that this week on the finale. Nobody had better drone there way through “Back in the USSR” or I will have to…I don’t know…something.

  134. One last post –

WTF does it matter who you are a fan of?

    This isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t a fansite.

We are all entitled to opinions and they donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have to be positive.

    I love LisaB.

    ETA: I love Kirsten too.

  135. Gizmo—–

Hey guys I ran into Jimmey Hendrix he said”Hey man the band “Daughtry” is groovey and so is Balke ” then he ask”Mars is groovey when did they start populating here?” Them happy pills.

  136. Build a wall Kirsten?

I will long for the days of the Iron curtain.

My goodness, they stomped around the stage like kids in a kindergarten production. I hope that wasn’t Nigel’s choreography. He needs to retire if it was.

  137. (I hate discussions about the blog)

    Ugh, me too.

Sure looks like the finale is going to be jam packed with guest appearances. To me though, this is an odd group to be doing Beatles songs if that rumor is true. If you can’t pull off the Bee Gees, I sure as hell doubt you’ll do a bang up job with the Beatles. Should be interesting either way.

And, I would rather see William Hung on than Brittney Spears. That girl just creeps me out.

Oh, and I saw Earth Wind & Fire in concert a couple of years ago. I actually thought they were quite good. But, I was 34 at the time, so please take my opinion with a grain of irrelevance.

  138. I live within easy driving distance to Bethel NY (two hours or so). The idea of seeing Taylor at the site of the original Woodstock festival is enticing for a lot of reasons (nostalgia for one), but EWF is not really one of them. I need to see the rest of the lineup before I make a decision on this one. I am much more inclined to see Taylor alone in Big Flats than to drive to Bethel. But that’s just me. And, while I’m certainly one of his “older” fans, I own nothing bedazzled nor would I toss any articles of clothing on the stage.

Strangely, as much as I like Taylor, the Idol I want to see this summer is Elliott. I may even go see Bucky at Turning Stone Casino. Kimberley Locke is performing in Syracuse this summer and it looks like George Huff is doing a Graham crusade in Binghamton, which is an hour away. Have Idol, will travel! And, I’ll top off the summer with the Idol tour show in Syracuse, which is actually selling quite well.

I also love this “cheesey” show!

  139. Carrie has been hugely successful because country music is about telling the story with your voice. It’s not about “performing”. That is why the Faith Hills, Martina McBrides, Carrie Underwoods, LeeAnn Rimes’ of country have sold so many albums. They don’t need to perform- they just need to SANG and people will listen. Sell out concerts and multi-platinum albums along with multiple #1 radio hits prove that.

Carrie won over Bo, because the style of music she sang is hugely popular with AI’s target demographics. Bo was the better performer- but Carrie was the better singer. IMO.

  140. KTINTIN, I guess you haven’t been reading here today, right? :cheese1_ee:

  141. I will never forget Carries “Alone” performance, oops, am I going back to season 4? Ehm, Season 6 yes, I would like Jordin to win. I love Blake but I’d rather he go the Kat route, release and sing the single that’s NOT the coronation single.

  142. If you write the song that gets picked as the coronation single, do you think AI will let you get royalties? Or do you think they’ll have a clause in the contract before you signed up.

  143. I hear that Katharine won’t be performing at the finale. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this story? Because I find it kinda weird that they would have Elliott, who TPTB basically wrote off during season 5, come back and not the runner-up.

  144. I’ve been thinking about idols and who they should perform with and this thought came to me… wouldn’t it be great if Taylor would hook up with Earth Wind and Fire? Wonder if anyone has thought about that?

  145. Tony – I read in here this morning that she’s doing some duet with Blake from her cd. I’m not sure if that was real or if it was memorex.

  146. Would my friends, who DONà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢T own the album, go see him if he was performing with a John Mayer or John Legend? Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s most likely a yes. Earth Wind & Fire? Heh. Yeah right.

By the way Sarah, the majority of John Legend’s fans are quite mature. So, I’m sure John wouldn’t have a problem being on the same stage as EW&F.

We are all entitled to opinions and they donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have to be positive.

I agree but I saw Folk comment more as an insult to EW&F than Taylor. Sorry, but having followed Fantasia’s music career have shown me that cd sales aside, having older and more established artist in your corner can only help any young up and coming artist. Even those from the AI world. They are not above or “to cool” for any of those who have been in the business longer than them. I don’t see Taylor as God. Nor do I see him being above any mature act who ask him to perform for them. They all have an audience but even more so, they carry clout in the industry. Which I’m sure is what he is trying to establish.

I didn’t see having artist like Aretha Franklin, Pattie Labelle nor Stevie Wonder in Fantasia’s corner hurting her career none. Despite the so called failure label that was handed to her because she was not selling cds like the other Idols. Where is she now? How did she get that role? She is well respected by those who have been in the business a lot longer than she’s been alive. They respect her as a young and up and coming artist. I am sure any and all of these Idols would give their right arm to earn the type of respect this young lady has earned without selling a lot of cds and burning up anyone’s charts. Contrary to what we want to believe, it’s not just about cd sales. It’s about being embraced by your peers. Especially those who have been in the business longer and know more than you. Just ask Fantasia..

  147. Yikes, bad morning.

Okay, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m behind the times, but I just watched the Final 4 Group Number. Gah!!!!!!!!!!

That was a spectacular trainwreck wasn’t it? This group can’t seem to sing together at all. I do miss the cheese of regular group numbers though, despite the suck. The random songs! The eye rolls! POINTY POSES! More cheese, less “huge” superstars please!

BTW I will be chuckling at the Disco Lion label randomly throughout the day. Thank you Kirsten :thumbup_tb:

  148. I still don’t believe Katharine is performing at the finale, so we’ll say no. If she shows up that’s fine and dandy, but I’m not going to slit my wrists if she doesn’t.

  149. So when was snark on idols and other artists banned?

Must have missed a new guideline.

  150. So when was snark on idols and other artists banned?

As soon as people started snarking on someone you like instead of someone you dislike (not directed at you Lisa B)

  151. Hey. Is Taylor performing with Earth Wind and Fire? Is it a golf tournament or something??

My input into what the S-Sixers should sing from the Beatles catalog. Nothing. I cringe at the thought.

As to Carrie U. Overexposed? Ya think? I keep hoping she will go away, but there she is again, hauling off another award. :rolleyes_wp: And now she is confirmed dating Dallas QB Romo ….. and I live in Texas….. so…… :glurps_tb:

  152. Carrie has a beautiful voice and has really matured as a performer, but the key to her success is that her album had real good songs and she was able to span genres. Pop/Country is hot right now, and she came along at just the right time. I remember when Simon said she would sell the most albums of any Idol in the history of the show. I scoffed at that remark, but it looks like he was right and Some Hearts has just gone six times platinum. He saw her potential from the start, that’s for sure.

  153. Spoilers….somebody taped some of the filming at Venice Beach. They tried to prevent it by threatening to call the cops…but really, it’s a public beach.

Here is one of the clips:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-R9LlkDIX58

(BTW The girls are screaming on cue for the skit)

We learn in another video, that vandals are for that “Beat Box” guy (okay maybe graffiti is allowed there)

  154. Well, since I am not “mature” enough to be a fan of Taylor’s, I suppose I will stop buying his music and going to his concerts.

  155. I will agree that Carrie has done exceptionally well, and I don’t wish her ill will. I just sorta wish her away.

I am not a fan of her bland style. I think Kellie Pickler shows far more depth of feeling in her singing, but that is just me.

  156. I will be chuckling at the Disco Lion label randomly throughout the day. Thank you Kirsten

I must credit Dave White with coming up with that one. But I love it so, that I’m going to steal it.

  157. I remember when Simon said she would sell the most albums of any Idol in the history of the show.

One thing I would give Carrie credit for, her music has crossed over without her having to compromise, unlike some country artists. It was cool seeing her single on VH1 countdown and hearing her song on Z100. A place where straight country music is not played much, if at all. I know the pressure for her to top this cd will be there and she may have to fight for more writing control because it’s typical that when a cd sells like this the “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” mentally is usually applied.

  158. I must credit Dave White with coming up with that one. But I love it so, that Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m going to steal it.

Dave White is hysterical. I was just catching up on the last of the season 5 recaps, which I believe were posted en masse recently by Lisa B (Thank you!, and if I am misatributing – I’m sorry! :smile_wp:). I was sitting at my computer at a riddiculous hour last night (thanks insomnia) trying to stifle my hysterical laughter so my landlord would not think I had finally lost it. Now I have to hit up the season 6 recaps.

  159. Hey. Is Taylor performing with Earth Wind and Fire? Is it a golf tournament or something??

It’s a concert in upstate NY (Bethel, the site of the original 1969 Woodstock festival).

It’s a match made in heaven, as far as I’m concerned. Totally excited for him! woooo!

It would be the equivalent of Daughtry performing with The Rolling Stones.

Sharing the stage with a legendary band. “Nuff said.

  160. I think Carrie is beautiful and has a beautiful voice. Other than Before He Cheats, I don’t really care for her songs and I’m a little tired of seeing her and hearing her. In the words of Katharine Mcphee – I’m Over It.

If Blake is contemporary, then how come Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve only heard Taylor on my AC station

My guess would be b/c heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s still in the competition, unlike Taylor. I havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t heard any of the current contestants on the radio. Actually, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not sure Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve ever heard Taylor on the radio either. ??

And yeah, I agree with maracaibo. Taylor sounds old school to me. And I *do not* mean that as an insult. *To me* Blake sounds a lot more contemporary than Taylor. Doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t mean one is good and one is not. Theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re just totally different. And I like them both. :)

I was just puzzled that Ana described Blake as being contemporary and Taylor isn’t..
It seems Taylor is NOW on rotation on the AC station that I listen to…Also, Mayer, and many other current artists are played on this station too, so if Taylor isn’t current, why are they playing his music?.

  162. Oops! Sorry, I’m just now catching up on todays postings. Take a ruler to my wrist for not reading beforehand. And just to say, I am 33 and a HUGE fan of EWF, so I’m in the minority I guess. :laugh_tb:

hey foxydonna have you heard anything about ticket sales for this years AI tour? They went on sale Saturday so it may be soon…but I remember last year they were adding dates and cities to the tour schedule.

  164. I’m sick of the word “contemporary,” as though some of us who actually enjoy good music from the past aren’t cool, or that we don’t have musical tastes. My 17 year old happens to love the oldies songs, but, listens to some of the newer stuff as well. The garbage that the radio stations feed us, is just that – total garbage for the most part. I don’t even listen to Daughtry when they play him any more. Just turn the station. Talk about overkill, just the same as with Carrie. There are other artists out there who have good songs, and, aren’t getting played. Maybe their indies aren’t getting the bucks to have them on the radio. I think I would actually buy a Phil Stacey CD, and, maybe Melinda. But, for the rest – meh. And, success isn’t always measured in the number of Cds sold, but, some can’t seem to get past that fact. Artists make less from these sales than from concert tours, etc. In that area, Taylor is a huge success.

  165. Hey. Is Taylor performing with Earth Wind and Fire? Is it a golf tournament or something??

Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a concert in upstate NY (Bethel, the site of the original 1969 Woodstock festival).

    Uhm…griz….I was kidding. :cool1_tb:

BTW. I have tickets for Taylor in Houston in August. NOT with E,W,&F. And NOT at a golf tournament. :tongue1_tb:

  166. It would be the equivalent of Daughtry performing with The Rolling Stones.

You’re right Griz, and his appearance will also exposes him to a different market of people. Which is how I saw at it. Unless one feels that the R&B world is not that much of a big deal.

  167. I agree but I saw Folk comment more as an insult to EW&F than Taylor.

  168. From the FOX promotional email:

    Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Finale Time!
After nine amazing performances, America had its work cut out for it in deciding who would be sent home, and who would be taking the highly desired spots in the “Idol” finale. Melinda was eliminated, leaving Blake and Jordin to compete for a place in American Idol history. Watch what is sure to be a thrilling finale at 8/7c on Tuesday. Come back Wednesday at 9/8c to find out who will be the Season Six American Idol!

The first NINE amazing performances? Are they not counting top 12 and 11 weeks? Do these people not have editors? Gave me a chuckle!

  169. Hi all……….I read somewhere this morning that the union has got a deal where AI has to pay the top 12 a wage while they are in the competition, but for the life of me I can’t find it right now. Nice added income for them, but it says it puts a new face on reality shows.
emerald…….I am off to Mass right now too, but wanted to say that I was at the Rosary Bowl last night at the Rose Bowl with 50,000 plus. The venue of course is always beautiful, but you should have heard the music soar into the night. The Ave Maria was magnifico and they had Latino and Gospel music. It was fantastic! (we even did the wave which was weird but funny) I think it was a bit surreal but it touched everyone. I will try to find the above article when I can.

  170. I remember last year they were adding dates and cities to the tour schedule.

I got an email yesterday saying they had added a second show at the Continental Airlines Arena in Jersey. Unfortunately they are both during the week and I can’t go.

ETA: I looked on Ticketmaster and they have added a show in Long Island NY as well.

  171. Thay also added a concert to the end of the concert in Manchester (ie they have a new end date)

  172. If I remember correctly-Bo did not appear on the finale night last year. Carrie did but he did not. He rescheduled a concert he was doing to be on the show, but I do not think he was on it. Does anyone remember differently?

  173. As for Carrie, how many awards can one person receive from one cd? It’s getting ridiculous. Seems like country music has awards shows on constantly. I mean, cripe, she will probably still be getting awards next year off the same cd. Time to do another one. Who is there alive that doesn’t own that cd yet that wants it? It is still selling-that amazes me. It came out when? Please Carrie, some new material soon!

  174. foxy,

    Yes, that too…

On the same page, if I had a choice of which type of concert I would prefer attending, I would much prefer a concert which features both younger and older artists. It’s like the best of both worlds. From my experience of attending both Kiss FM type concerts, where most of the acts consists of artists whose singles are on the radio and considered “hot” or a Budweiser Superfest type concert, which is a combination of younger and older acts, I much preferred the Budweiser Superfest type. I always seem to walk away realizing why those older acts are still selling-out venues even though they haven’t had a hot cd or hot single on the charts in years.

  176. Long time no post….I can’t believe there is still debate with respect to Taylor….and age….some things just don’t change.

    Hi Folk…..Hi Lisa B…hi Sarah…

  177. Last year Folk was funny, this year-not.so.much. Sending some thoughts and prayers her way.

Bo was not on the show last year.

Aw man, would love to see Bo come out and SANG this year. He’s the guy who got me to vote for the first time. Carrie was an awesome talent, though. Too bad Bo got sick :(

Haven’t checked out his new album, look forward to doing so.

Quite an impressive career. And, donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t forget, they opened the show for Idol Gives Back on April 25th. Clive Davis actually bought their contract at one time. A very interesting read..

I saw that earlier. Kudos to Clive, lol.

Cheer up! Next year it will be anyone over 46. :wink_ee:

  181. LG – I voted for Bo too, like a madwoman. I love him to death. That season was a big battle in my family – I loved Bo and my mom loved Carrie. :)

I’d love to see him on the finale this year – but I doubt it will happen. *sigh*

  182. Meh, I find Folk funny but then again I don’t think i’ve ever been offended by anything anyone has said on this board. If they want to act like i’m just a child and that my opinion doesn’t matter, I don’t care, i’m the one that has to take care of you when you go in an old folks home, remember that. :twisted_wp:

  183. Your day will come too, Rad :devil_tb:
Wish time could stand still for a while, but it hasn’t yet. I can still wish though.

  184. wonder why Bo wasn’t on the finale. I specifically remember reading posted by him that he was rescheduling a concert to appear on the show and that he couldn’t pass up being in front of an audience that large. Wonder if he got sick or what????

Blake’s assured a great career, do you think he’d be just as well off to place 2nd? Just throwin’ that out there, as last season proved that winning the title doesn’t equate to high sales.

Blakeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s assured a great career, do you think heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d be just as well off to place 2nd? Just throwinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ that out there, as last season proved that winning certainly isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t the ticket to a high-sales, lucrative career.

Lets see now. Jordin was featured on American Juniors and on America’s Got Talent. Simon told her to come back in a few years when she’s old enough for AI. Do you really think she won’t win?

  190. If you canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t pull off the Bee Gees, I sure as hell doubt youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll do a bang up job with the Beatles. Should be interesting either way.

The Beatles? Nobody under 65 would be interested.

  191. I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t believe there is still debate with respect to Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.and ageà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.some things just donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t change.

Yep, instigated by the same people also.. It’s amazing..

  192. Well why not? Seems like they’ve invited everyone else in the world. What’s one more?

Speaking of the finale – I salivate at the thoughts of the cheesy duets. I’m not really sure how they could top last year, but I’m looking forward to their attempts. Who could forget Meatloaf appearing to forget he was actually on stage? Or Mary J. Blige forgetting that she was actually a part of a duet? And my personal favorite, that creature Toni Braxton trying to sex up a song about poor kids in the ghetto.

It was all so delicious. I want to see Blake beat boxing while Paul McCartney sings Hey Jude. What could be better than that?

  193. (((Earth, Wind and Fire))) — RIP.

Our resident expert said as much, so it must be true.

    oh –

(Al Gore is still a babbling idiot and Taylor is still not gay.)

  194. Hey Now….

I am a 30 year old woman who appreciates all music, from Frank Sinatra, to the Beatles, to Earth wind and Fire to Snow Patrol, and so on….to generalize age group versus taste in music is rediculous, Music knows no age, it is all in how it makes you feel
inside….. and I LOVE Taylor Hicks!! so Blah….LOL!!!!!

  195. Whatever happened to the humour that use to reside here?

I don’t know, the though of Blake beatboxing “Hey, Jude” with Sir Paul filled me with mirth. (sheepishly admitting to my cheesy sense of humour).

How about the top 10 duets that should not happen this year? LOL. Better stop while I’m ahead.

  196. It was all so delicious. I want to see Blake beat boxing while Paul McCartney sings Hey Jude.

Paul McCartney? Wouldn’t he attract the same age demographics as Earth, Wind, and Fire, more or less? Nobody would be interested – especially singing an ancient song like Hey Jude.

I’d much rather see Britney Spears on the show. Give me some of that classic contemporary music, I say!

    ;)

  197. What is the difference between someone being a “Special Guest” of Earth Wind and Fire as opposed to someone being an Opening act ?

  198. Heh…Okay, I can’t resist.

Picture this, Blake beatboxing with Andrea Bocelli while a stone faced David Foster watches from the wings.

  199. Eminem and Chris R dueting together? LOL. Some nasally person is going to get their a$$ kicked.

  200. What is the difference between someone being a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Special Guestà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ of Earth Wind and Fire as opposed to someone being an Opening act ?

No difference. It’s possible, however, that Taylor might also play with the band, in addition to opening up, which is highly likely.

  201. How about the top 10 duets that should not happen this year? LOL. Better stop while Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m ahead.

Bring it on Girlfriend! The top 2 duets I do not want to see? Someone singing while Burt Bacharach plays piano. Or, anyone singing with Dionne Warwick.

  202. Melinda, I think she could duet with anybody. But, put Lakisha and some Emo band together and there are going to be issues. Heh.

  203. Kirsten you’re a tryer you deserve an award.

My time’s up with daily chat. I’m sticking to front page from now on.

  204. What is the difference between someone being a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Special Guestà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ of Earth Wind and Fire as opposed to someone being an Opening act ?

The Opening Act performs before the headliner.

The “Special Guest” sells beer at the concession stand.

Duet I want to see: Chris R. & Sarah Evans in a “Nasal-Off”. Who can push more notes through their nose? I think Sarah would win.

  205. Hey I kinda like the thought of Blake doin’ Hey Jude, he could put a reggae spin on it. With Ricky layin’ down the funk…hayull to tha yeah! :cool1_tb:

(I actually have a friend up pronounces the word hell in two distinct syllables: HAY’ull Yeeaahh.)

*visions of Taylor, Maurice and the boyz jammin’* The whole band must be freakin’ psyched.

  206. Last year, there was some speculation that Bo was cut from the finale because Prince was not a certainty. Prince agreed at the last minute, and there wasn’t time to juggle the schedule to allow for Bo’s performance. Of course, that would have meant cutting something meaningful like Rhonetta, the foul-mouth b…tch or one of the other ridiculous filler pieces. Personally, I would have preferred to see Bo rather than Prince, but that’s just me, I guess. The finale should be more about the Idols, past and present, than how many celebrities they can round up to perform.

  207. Very likely, undecided, depends on how well the fanbases are mobilized. Just interested to hear Sarah and other Team Plaiders’ perspectives.

  208. It’s been reported that the TV Guide Channel is having preview ads for the finale – one spot showed the 3 judges and Taylor in a gray suit. Their coverage starts at 6pm EST.

  210. Very likely, undecided, depends on how well the fanbases are mobilized. Just interested to hear Sarah and other Team Plaidersà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ take on it.

Well, this member of Team Plaid will be texting her fingers off. I really enjoy Blake and I look forward to an eventual CD. But, I also really want the winner to be: not Jordin. So, I’m motivated and ready to vote.

  211. IMO If they have Britney Spears on the show, that’s going to an all-time low.

Very likely, undecided, depends on how well the fanbases are mobilized.

That’s assuming that the votes actually have any influence on the outcome. I don’t think the voting accomplishes anything other than proving to the advertisers that people are watching.

  214. IMO If they have Britney Spears on the show, thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s going to an all-time low.

Oh, I think they can still go significantly lower. I’m not sure how – but I’m sure they’ll try.

  215. I’m sorry if people are offended, but you know, there are PLENTY of times when I let the “youth” comments and other things roll off my back. I don’t like being made to feel as if I have no taste because I am young, either. But I don’t let it get to me either.

I am now finished with this conversation.

  216. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been reported that the TV Guide Channel is having preview ads for the finale – one spot showed the 3 judges and Taylor in a gray suit.

I saw Simon take a wad of gum out of his mouth and place it behind Taylor’s ear.

  217. Another reason why I think Jordin will win is because I hear that the winner will be signed to the new 19 record label and not with Clive. I think Simon really wants to sign Jordin since he’s waited for her to grow up and be on AI.

  218. I think a lot of people got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. :eek_wp:

  219. I really enjoy Blake and I look forward to an eventual CD. But, I also really want the winner to be: not Jordin. So, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m motivated and ready to vote.

I’m not picking on SpenserJ, but this just illustrates a theory I’ve had for a while.

Voting in the Finale is a different animal. This is the one week that you can effectively vote against somebody. Some people will vote, not because they want contestant X to win, but because they cannot tolerate contestant Y winning (I did this myself once during CI, so maybe I’m just projecting).

I think that this can become a powerful factor. If Melinda had made the final 2, I think she would have won. People may not care for Melinda, but I doubt that many people would vote for her competition just to make sure that she didn’t win. On the other hand, both of the other options come with some “baggage”. Some years, I think this has no factor. I think Season 4, people were content to vote for their favourite. Season 2, I think that there were definitely people voting against contestants.

Some people will vote for Jordin because “some gimmick-boy who cannot sing should not win” while others won’t vote for the “precocious princess pimped beyond any other contestant” and “to stick it to the man”. (not my opinion on the contestants, just what I’ve heard some people say)

Just my half baked theory for the afternoon when I should be out gardening, but the rain is something fierce.

The Anybody-but-him/her voting block may hold sway this year.

Who will get the generate the most anybody-but-him votes? I think Blake. Most people don’t follow the pimping/manipulation stuff (and if you mentioned to them, they would think you insane), so I don’t think it will be as much of a factor.

  220. Simon really wants to sign Jordin since heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s waited for her to grow up and be on AI.

Yes, the only reason Simon even started American Idol was to sit back and watch all these poor sods come up and sing and think they’re winning when really he was just waiting for Maginificent Jordin to get of age so she could become the next Elvis Presley/The Beatles/Michael Jackson.

  221. Well, this member of Team Plaid will be texting her fingers off. I really enjoy Blake and I look forward to an eventual CD. But, I also really want the winner to be: not Jordin. So, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m motivated and ready to vote.

    Yeah, what she said. :)

And, I am a full-fledged Blake fan who has wanted him to win from the beginning. The Blaker Girls and Team Plaid are mobilizing as we speak.

Sure, it will be close and Blake has an uphill battle to fight. But if Jordin falls on her ass trying to be “current”, she’ll make his job that much easier.

Blake is more popular and has a lot more fans than a lot of you think. And they are NOT all 12 year old girls.

  222. The Anybody-but-him/her voting block may hold sway this year.

Season 5 was also a good example of anyone but him/her.
Oh wait, I don’t want to talk about season 5 anymore. :doh_tb:

  223. I think Simon really wants to sign Jordin since heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s waited for her to grow up and be on AI.

Then why has he been so tough on her all season? The only time I can think of that he’s been positive in his reaction to one of her performances without throwing in a backhanded compliment was after her performance on Country week. I’d have to go back and read all of MJ’s recaps to make sure though.

More likely that he sees her as a threat to his precious Leona Lewis who he so wants to be a success in the US.

If Simon was so hell-bent on Jordin winning, why did he not pimp her to high heaven last week?

  224. Simon likes curly haired woman from a mixed background.
Leona, Sabrina, Jordin, his girlfriend Terri.

  225. radname May 20th, 2007 at 4:25 pm

Yes, the only reason Simon even started American Idol was to sit back and watch all these poor sods come up and sing and think theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re winning when really he was just waiting for Maginificent Jordin to get of age so she could become the next Elvis Presley/The Beatles/Michael Jackson.

    Did I hit a nerve?

  226. I like the theory about voting against someone, but I’ve only voted “for.” I don’t vote when I don’t care, and this year, especially now that Melinda’s gone, I really don’t care, at least not enough to devote two hours of my life to voting. One thing for sure, last year cured me of that.

That being said, I do want to see Blake win, and may change my mind when it actually comes down to the night of the performances. Still, I can’t see myself voting for two or four hours.

  227. Sarah May 20th, 2007 at 4:30 pm

If Simon was so hell-bent on Jordin winning, why did he not pimp her to high heaven last week?

He can’t exactly tongue bathe the ringer now can he? He said since the beginning that a curly haired person would win. He always tips his hand. You’re also assuming that the voting counts. *sigh*

Somebody is going to say ” Well then if the voting doesn’t count, how the heck did Taylor win last year.

Since season 2 through 4 had so many people, including the media, questioning the voting and the manipulation, they let the one that was not the apparent chosen one win to put aside the voting debate. It worked, but the funny thing is that they ignored the outcome, used Taylor as proof that they don’t choose, promoted the real chosen one anyway and now its back to the same ole same ole of picking the winner.

  228. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not picking on SpenserJ, but this just illustrates a theory Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve had for a while.

Well that’s good. Because if you were – I would cry, and no one wants that.

I think your theory has some validity to it. There are probably a whole lot of “anti” votes in the finale. Although I would be voting for Blake no matter who he was up against, if it had come down to Melinda and Jordin, Melinda would have gotten my votes as well. And although Melinda is a fantastic singer, those votes probably would have been more toward the “not jordin” end of things.

But, my reasons for disliking Jordin are not the pimping or the ringer theory. I find her phoney and annoying. I think she’s a professional talent show kid and I cannot stand professional talent show kids – or their creepy stage parents. Also, I think she’s about 100 times more pageanty than Haley ever was.

  229. Did I hit a nerve?

No, I just find some theories/conspiracies a little tiresome.

  230. He canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t exactly tongue bathe the ringer now can he? He said since the beginning that a curly haired person would win. He always tips his hand. Youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re also assuming that the voting counts. *sigh*

Wasn’t it Randy who made the comment about someone with curly hair winning this year?

  231. There were three people with curly hair this year were there not? Jordin, Sabrina, and Chris S

  232. I’ll be voting for the contestant, rather than against another. From what I’ve seen, though Jordin has adapted very well to the various genres, I see more originality in Blake. He’s introduced me to a new sound…so for that I give him kudos.

  233. There were three people with curly hair this year were there not? Jordin, Sabrina, and Chris S

    You forgot Sanjaya.

  234. If Sanjaya dyed his mohawk gray, he might still be in the running…. hey, it’s a thought! ;)

  235. You forgot Sanjaya.

Please dont remind me, I am trying to forget he ever existed.
But his hair is not really that curly (although I know you were joking). His hair is like mine where it has a wave in it, Unfortunately I don’t have a stylist that comes and does my hair in faux-hawks and greased up. Dean call me!

  236. radname May 20th, 2007 at 4:38 pm

There were three people with curly hair this year were there not? Jordin, Sabrina, and Chris S

True, but who made it through to the end?

  237. *sigh*

Well, I think Simon gives his favorites tongue baths all the time, so I don’t see why she would be any different. And, he looked devastated last week by Melinda’s ouster. So no – I do not believe Jordin was the one he wanted to win.

I like to believe that the voting counts. Without that, the show would be no fun to me. Also, no one has ever proven that it doesn’t. So assuming that the voting does indeed count doesn’t actually make us stupid.

  238. True, but who made it through to the end?

Well that’s like saying, okay well last year Randy said a guy would win and look who won! A guy! CONSPIRACY!!
Or it could be that’s just who had the most votes.

  239. Jordin just happened to have a photo layout in Seventeen magazine last December, right before the beginning of the season. Coincidence?

  240. I am in agreement that AI does not rig the vote totals. Do the judges lay comments to sway the voters? Yes. But did Simon favor Melinda? Yes. Proof the vote totals are not manipulated. If they were, Taylor R. Hicks would never have won.

  241. With all this talk about Jordin and how she doesn’t deserve to be in the finale- I went back and watched several of the episodes this year. And I can see why she has gained favor in the eyes of the voters. She and Melinda both have had the most best of the night performances than the others this season. Jordin’s song from Land Before Time, To Love Somebody, I Who Have Nothing, On A Clear Day, Broken Wing and You’ll Never Walk Alone were all outstanding. Yes, the girl has had some sucktacular moments- but she has had some damn good moments too. The good moments far outweigh the sucky ones for her IMO.

Proof the vote totals are not manipulated. If they were, Taylor R. Hicks would never have won.

    I already covered that.

Somebody is going to say à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Well then if the voting doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t count, how the heck did Taylor win last year.”

Since season 2 through 4 had so many people, including the media, questioning the voting and the manipulation, they let the one that was not the apparent chosen one win to put aside the voting debate. It worked, but the funny thing is that they ignored the outcome, used Taylor as proof that they donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t choose, promoted the real chosen one anyway and now its back to the same ole same ole of picking the winner.

Jordin just happened to have a photo layout in Seventeen magazine last December, right before the beginning of the season. Coincidence?

You mean…all these years, Seventeen magazine has been a ringer? Created for the sole purpose of being there to promote Jordin Sparks when she competed on American Idol at the age of…17?

Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive. (Sir Walter Scott)

  244. Jordin just happened to have a photo layout in Seventeen magazine last December, right before the beginning of the season. Coincidence?

Probably? She was a model for a clothing company, and the magazines choose when to put ads in, so unless AI told Seventeen (which is in no way affiliated with AI,FOX or 19e)to put the winner in their magazine.
Jordin is a young talented girl, who has a likeable personality (I know some people disagree, but if you don’t sit and over analyze she is likeable)

  245. You meanà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦all these years, Seventeen magazine has been a ringer? Created for the sole purpose of being there to promote Jordin Sparks when she competed on American Idol at the age ofà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦17?

AI is God. They buy up extra Daughtry records so he can seem like a success when he isn’t at all, they pay off west coast newspaper writers to write bad things about Taylor and they pay off award shows to give Carrie all those awards she is not deserving of.

  246. Cya on Wed. Pray that the pyro doesn’t catch Jordin’s curly hair on fire.

  247. Happy Birthday, nanny mcphee (happier days?)!!

It’s my birthday today too :-)

Haven’t been around lately–it’s been my first week at my job. And I absolutely LOVE it. :-)

  248. Somehow having the “glory note” is a big vote getter on AI. Jordin will definitely push the glory note. It’s an AI trademark.

  249. It would be the equivalent of Daughtry performing with The Rolling Stones.

Or the WHO….but since little d knows not who The Who is the import would fly over his chrome dome.

**wipes brow in relief that snark is still allowed here**

  250. Meh, I find Folk funny but then again I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve ever been offended by anything anyone has said on this board. If they want to act like ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m just a child and that my opinion doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t matter, I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t care, ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m the one that has to take care of you when you go in an old folks home, remember that.

You punctuate, which gains you extra points in my book. :-)

  251. It worked, but the funny thing is that they ignored the outcome, used Taylor as proof that they donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t choose, promoted the real chosen one anyway and now its back to the same ole same ole of picking the
    winner.

Or choosing the one who will make them the most cash. I take your point – that’s their game. They knew Daughtry would sell and that’s who they threw themselves behind last year. This year should be no different. Actually, they stand to make a lot from both contestants this year. I am assuming they’ll sign both finalists.

ETA Happy B’Day Kat and Nanny McPhee :)

  252. Speaking of Emininen, what ever happened to him?

Or Mary J. Blige forgetting that she was actually a part of a duet?

Oh man, I thought I was the only one who noticed how she just sang her song as is she was the only one on the stage. Only to acknowledge Elliott towards the end with the raising of his arm. The visual of that event still have me laughing.. The same with Toni B. The only thing is I had more of a WTH moment that pure laughter..

My duet would be with Britney and Haley. They can reprise Britney’s slave for you single complete with snakes around their necks and hot pants like Britney did on MTV a few years back..Or maybe it was a couple of years ago.

  253. I think there might be something to your comment about people voting against someone instead of just for someone, Kirsten. I threw some votes Kat’s way last season although had a favorite in the other 2 seasons I voted in.

I’m a Team Plaid member who’s a little ambivalent about whether I want Blake to win. I will vote for him but won’t be heartbroken if he doesn’t win.

  254. I’m ambivalent about both of them this year. And while I do feel like the show prefers Jordin, I think they’d both be deserving winners. Winners I’ll forget about in a month, but deserving nonetheless :-)

  255. Are the judges throwing rotten eggs and tomatoes at him?

    (sorry couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t resistà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦bad Kirstenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.you go sit in the corner)

We know you are. Plus it’s the AI judges we talking about here. Nothing they do or say should be taken to heart. Won’t be surprise if TPTB are offering Taylor a contract to be part of their family as we post.

IMO If they have Britney Spears on the show, thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s going to an all-time low.

Don’t know if it’s an all-time low but I could see Vanilla Ice and Blake doing a nice duet together. Ice Ice Baby, Complete with beat-box and record scratching..

  256. Happy Birthday Kat and Nanny McPhee!

Anyways, I too believe that they would be stupid to not sign Both Jordin and Blake regardless of the outcome Wednesday night, they obviously are extremely talented and have big enough fanbases to carry them when they put out an album, Jordin is young, and is a ballad singer, and will appeal to many people, as well as blake, who is different, very current and extremely talented, so it’s a win win situation for TPTB!!!

By the way, Lu! I am so happy your mom is doing better, she will continue to be in my prayers!
Have a great day everyone :)

  257. I saw Simon take a wad of gum out of his mouth and place it behind Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s ear.

I’m surprised Simon could reach that high.

  258. Does Chris know who the Rolling Stones are???

No, you have to be over 45 to know that. *burp*

  259. And while I do feel like the show prefers Jordin, I think theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d both be deserving winners.

I agree Kat. Although Jordin isn’t my personal cup of tea (I’ve been a fan of Blake’s since Final 24), I can see that she has a LOT of talent and is a very deserving winner. They are both very good and I’m quite looking forward to a great performance night. I hope that neither of them stumble, because it’s better to both go out on a high note (and a win is more sweet if you didn’t win because your competition tanked).

    Go Blake and Jordin!!!!!

    ETA: Happy Birthday Kat!

  260. The same with Toni B. The only thing is I had more of a WTH moment that pure laughter..
    __________________

She was plain scary last year IMO, but I saw a video of her and Michael McDonald on youtube and she is/or was gorgeous..
Did she have on a wig last year?
One thing for certain, she looked like a “Drag Queen” with GREAT legs when she appeared on last year’s Finale…

    Almost forgot, HAPPY BIRTHDAY Kat

  261. foxyd
If that is why Bo didn’t appear, that just sucks. Especially since he cancelled a concert. They should have him back this year to apologize.

  262. Anyways, I too believe that they would be stupid to not sign Both Jordin and Blake regardless of the outcome Wednesday night, they obviously are extremely talented and have big enough fanbases to carry them when they put out an album, Jordin is young, and is a ballad singer, and will appeal to many people, as well as blake, who is different, very current and extremely talented, so ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a win win situation for TPTB!!!

I’m not sure about all that you said but it’s typical of AI to sign both winner and runner-up, so I’m sure they both will be signed.

I’ll be voting but I won’t be for either Blake nor Jordin. I will be voting on DWTS. Since I don’t care for neither of them, I don’t see the need to place one above the other. I will just watch and wish them both the best of luck.

  263. He canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t exactly tongue bathe the ringer now can he?

Hasn’t stopped him in years past.

He said since the beginning that a curly haired person would win.

    No, he didn’t. Randy did.

Youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re also assuming that the voting counts.

Just because Clay didn’t win doesn’t mean the voting doesn’t count.

  264. I saw Simon take a wad of gum out of his mouth and place it behind Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s ear.

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m surprised Simon could reach that high.

Does Chris know who the Rolling Stones are???

No, you have to be over 45 to know that. *burp*

Who said you guys don’t have a sense of humour..

  265. Yes, the girl has had some sucktacular moments- but she has had some damn good moments too. The good moments far outweigh the sucky ones for her IMO.

I don’t agree with all of those performances being the “best of the night”, but that’s just me. Plus, the exact same thing can be said for Blake.

IMO, he’s only given two, MAYBE three, “bad” performances all season long. His standout GREAT performances are: “Time of the Season”, “Love Song”, “I Need to Know”, “You Give Love a Bad Name”, “This Love”, and “When I Get You Alone”.

  266. But, my reasons for disliking Jordin are not the pimping or the ringer theory. I find her phoney and annoying. I think sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a professional talent show kid and I cannot stand professional talent show kids – or their creepy stage parents. Also, I think sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s about 100 times more pageanty than Haley ever was.

    _______________________________________

I’m with you on this one Spenser…

  267. Season 2, I think that there were definitely people voting against contestants.

Was that Season two or do you mean Season 3. I could have sworn that Clay and Ruben had their fanbase pretty much on their side.

Season 5 was also a good example of anyone but him/her.

Well speaking from the standpoint of someone who was not following the boards nor blogs but did notice the polls, I would say that Season 5 was not such a good example. It was clear who most wanted to win by the week of the finals. I see this season more like Season 2, where it will come down to the votes but for different reasons.

  268. For season 5 when it came down to the finale, and fans of other idols who were not in said finale voted, I’d say that the votes they cast were as much AGAINST one contestant as they were for the other.

It was that way for me, at least. I didn’t just throw 100 text votes to Taylor for my health.

  269. weelassie, I don’t know for sure if that’s why Bo didn’t perform, but he definitely cancelled a show to appear on Idol. I saw a clip of an interview he did at the time and he said he was excited to be a part of it. The Prince thing was floated around at the time as a possible explanation, never verified. But it certainly sound plausible.

  270. IMO, heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s only given two, MAYBE three, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“badà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ performances all season long. His standout GREAT performances are: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Time of the Seasonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Love Songà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I Need to Knowà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“You Give Love a Bad Nameà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“This Loveà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“When I Get You Aloneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ .

I’d add “Somewhere Only We Know” and “Virtual Insanity” to that list. “Virtual Insanity” is sooo underrated!

  271. I think Blake needs the win more than Jordin, but agree they’ll both be signed (Melinda too). Will there be a “Daughtry” this year? If Blake doesn’t win, maybe. I don’t think Melinda will outsell the winner, though. I’m actually looking forward to the finale. It’s always so grand! Plus, Melinda will get to sing and I want her to be fabulous and get a standing ovation. Then I’ll weep again! I’m such a sap. Haven’t spent an entire day posting here in a long time. I miss that.

  272. For season 5 when it came down to the finale, and fans of other idols who were not in said finale voted, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d say that the votes they cast were as much AGAINST one contestant as they were for the other.

But that’s every season if that’s the case. There are 12 contestants. When it’s all said and done, either their fans will just stop watching when they voted off or jump on board another contestants bandwagon.

Did you vote for Taylor because you didn’t like Kat? Or did you vote for Taylor because your favorite was voted off early and he became the next likable character?

I personally won’t vote because neither one really move me. I’m not going to throw votes Blake’s way just so Jordin won’t win. Nor will I do the same for Jordin. Neither of them impress me enought to vote one over the other. I remembered reading a lot about the voting against a particualr contestant way back in Season 1. When it got down to Kelly vs. Justin. A lot of Tamyra’s fans were voting for Justin to beat Kelly because there were rumours of her fanbase encouraging other fanbases to band together to vote off Tamyra.

I think the whole thing is sad and deceptive because it gives a false impression of how big these contestants fanbases really are in the end. Justin G never recovered.

  273. Why was daughtry singing through a megaphone? I watched Blake on Leno last week and he said he never watched American Idol…..so how did he have a fave –is he going by their cd’s? My old feeble mind needs to know these things….

  274. Happy Birthday Kat!!!

Man you and I have had some HUGE debates on this board, no wonder though, we are both big, stubborn bulls.

    Now it makes sense. :tongue1_tb:

  275. It’s ALLLLLL making sense now, isn’t it, Nanny? :-)

Happy birthday to you too, sweetie.

By the way, are you happier days on TWoP? If you are I quite enjoy our sparring there as well :-P

  276. Will there be a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Daughtryà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ this year? If Blake doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t win, maybe.

I don’t feel that Blake will be the next DAUGHTRY. I personally feel that DAUGHTRY came along at the right time. His sound and image is what’s hot right know, but his music is not trendy. Chris style of music will be around for a while because he fits a particular mold. The question is, will he still be as hot by his second cd or will there be a new act on the horizon to take his place? Blake, on the other hand is more trendy like Fergie, from The Black-Eye Peas group. His style is retro 80/90’s vibe with a modern twist. The question is, will anyone be interested in him by the time he drops his cd later this year or is his trend just heating up and will catch fire by the time he drops that cd?

I do see him out selling Jordin thou. I see Jordin a lot like Diana Degarmo. There isn’t any real sex appeal with her to send her down that road. The only thing I can see them doing with her is sending down the Hannah Montana (??)road.

  277. I’m watching the show for the entertainment but I’m not invested this year. I’m pulling for Blake but I’m not voting and I don’t care who takes it. Blake is sometimes fun to watch but his shtick gets old. I wouldn’t go see him or buy his CD. I just don’t see a market for him. But I’m older so I guess I just don’t get it. Actually I don’t see huge success from any of the S6 idols.

  278. I agree about Blake and Jordin. She’ll go the Hannah Montana route but that’s tough w/o the Disney show to support it. Blake could make a Maroon 5 kind of album (maybe.) I just don’t see anybody from this crew coming near DAUGHTRY numbers. If they get lucky, they could sell more than Taylor. I don’t care because I’m not buying any of the CDS. I think Blake would be a fun winner though so I’m rooting for him. But honestly, this is one Season I’ll forget pretty quickly.

  279. I voted for Taylor because I did not want *** to win. Cause I sure as hell did not vote in the week of the top 3. And if it had been a Taylor/Elliott finale, I would not have voted.

I also think we give WAY too much credit to “fanbases”. Yeah, they’re important, and without those core fans, these contestant’s wouldn’t have gotten nearly this far. But, there are also plenty of swing voters, and at this stage of the game, those matter more than they ever did.

The more important question is, how many votes will they get on Tuesday night? They said they got 65 million this past week in just 2 hours and almost 70 million in top 6 week for IGB in 4 hours. So I’m gonna put it out there and say they’ll get close to 100 million this week. I could be waaaaaay off, but I just have a feeling it’s going to be a HUGE number.

  280. I voted for Taylor because I did not want *** to win. Cause I sure as hell did not vote in the week of the top 3. And if it had been a Taylor/Elliott finale, I would not have voted.

Just curious…who were you rooting for last year Sarah?

  281. LOL, of COURSE no one will sell anywhere NEAR what ANYONE from season 5 did, because season 5 is GOD! Ugh.

  282. Toni B and Taylors duet on the finale last year was one of the funniest and most embarrassing things I’ve seen on AI. I went back and forth between embarrassment for him and laughter at her. Someone on fox shouldve “accidentally” broke the feed till she was done showing off. She had to have been spaced out in some way to carry on like that on a family show to a song about the Ghetto.

  283. I dont think that Blake will be the next Daughtry. Daughtry has the sound that’s hip right now – Nickleback, Hinder sound – Blake will be fine though I see him as more of a niche artist. I could be wrong. I wasn’t planning on voting during the finale unless my Blake fan friends here ask for some help.

Also – unmarketable Elliott’s Wait for You is now #25 on mediabase top 40.

  284. Toni B and Taylors duet on the finale last year was one of the funniest and most embarrassing things Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve seen on AI. I went back and forth between embarrassment for him and laughter at her.

I agree. It was hysterical and embarrassing at the same time. Taylor handled it well though. I don’t see how this year’s finale can top last year’s but we’ll see what they have in store for us.

  285. Just curiousà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦who were you rooting for last year Sarah?

My overall favorite was Chris. However, I voted for Ace at first because I also liked him and thought he needed my help more than Chris did. After Ace left, I started voting for Chris. Then I did not vote on top 3 week, and voted for Taylor in the finale – mostly because I did not want *** to win, but also because I did like him and could see myself buying his album.

Throughout the course of the season, I mainly liked Chris, Ace, Taylor, and Paris.

  286. I felt sorry for Taylor during that duet. Toni Braxton appeared to be tanked…

  287. This finale seems like it would gain the most votes from tweens. Jordin and Blake are naturals for that audience. Is it true that Clive doesn’t sign them anymore? No wonder he wasn’t there Top 3 night. Elliott’s single is doing very well indeed especially because he’s on that indy label.

  288. I agree. It was hysterical and embarrassing at the same time. Taylor handled it well though. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t see how this yearà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s finale can top last yearà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s but weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll see what they have in store for us.

I’m just hoping that Sherman Poe has been invited to perform one of his songs off his new album that will come out on the 22nd of this month..
Oh yeh, I want to see Taylor…Just hoping they don’t show him parking cars are cleaning the bathrooms…

  289. I promise to throw at least one vote in the Team Plaid direction unless he really sucks.:)

  290. Cool, jpfan! Thanks!

It will be interesting to see what he does with the schlocky coronation single. I’m not worried about the other two songs. :)

  291. I don’t know if it was discussed here but on E! News Weekend, they’re saying that Melinda’s votes will now go to Jordan.

  292. wow. to say some of you are f’in nuts is an understatement, truly. to be so overly invested in an artist that you care about their outift, their schedule, their love life…or whatever it is you are debating endlessly, and have been doing for TWELVE MONTHS now…well, you can make snide comments at me every minute of the day…but I am not the one whose life revolves around a person who does not know my name.

    and weelassie this:

Last year Folk was funny, this year-not.so.much. Sending some thoughts and prayers her way.

spare me your crap. i need no prayers. some of you, the TOS, can not see how truly ridiculous you have become. and it is beyond sad really.

as for the finale…the feelings of the baby shower was much love for blake…

  293. When I’ve had a favorite, I’ve voted for him or her alone. Actually, there’s only been two seasons where my favorite was eliminated before the top 2 – season three George Huff where I voted for Fantasia after that, and season 2 where my favorite was Kimberley Locke and I didn’t vote in the finale, not because I didn’t want to but because I was unable to get an open line for either of them. Season one I was for Kelly, four Bo, and five Taylor. This year, I never really had a favorite, only voted on IGB night and don’t plan on voting in the finals.

  294. For those that need more idol cheese then the finale will provide, the tv guide channel will start a red carpet show 2 hrs before the finale of AI starts.

  295. to say some of you are fà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢in nuts is an understatement, truly.

Hmmm….just preachin’ back atcha, Folk – just read back over MJ’s Guidelines: but please, no personal attacks on posters who disagree with you. Please do not make generalizations about groups of people

    Just sayin….

Please, God, help folk regain her sense of humour… :innocent1_tb:

  296. For me, Jordin has become this years Kat – although in Jordin’s case, I actually liked her at one time – whereas I never liked Kat from day one.

I may have even thrown a few votes Jordin’s way. No more! I’ll vote for Blake a bit – not as fervently for favorites in seasons past, of course.

Then again, since I’m over 30, they’ll probably throw my votes out anyway since they JUST DON’T MATTER….this red thing’s been flashing on my palm for years and years now….

  297. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know if it was discussed here but on E! News Weekend, theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re saying that Melindaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s votes will now go to Jordan.

That’s probably true. This will be the first time in 3 years that I will not be voting or care who wins. The 2 finalists this year are beyond banal and boring and neither worth my finger effort. Oh well, there’s always next year – maybe.

  298. Then again, since Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m over 30, theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll probably throw my votes out anyway since they JUST DONà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢T MATTERà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.this red thingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been flashing on my palm for years and years nowà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.

That’s right – I think the magic age is 45 tho – your dollars spent on things like concerts, CDs and AI votes are worthless and to hell with any performer that caters to different musical tastes than that of Fergie and Britney.

Bring on that great Top 40 list!!! Definitely some classics there, eh? :flush_tb:

  299. I don’t see Blake as a niche artist. I made this analogy on Team Plaid but I’ll share it here…

    DAUGHTRY : Nickelback :: Blake : Maroon 5 (or even JT/Keane/Jason Mraz)

He’s pop, but with a little bit of an alt/electronic edge.

But of course, the success of his album will depend on the material – just like with every other artist, Idol or not!

Anyway, here are the podcasts of the press conference calls Blake and Jordin did Thursday (I guess?) that all the quotes we’ve seen from them in the media over the weekend came from:

    Blake

    Jordin

I’ve only listened to Blake’s so far. It’s interesting because some of his quotes in isolation in all these articles make it look like he’s white flagging to Jordin, but in actuality he was just responding to questions he was specifically asked about Jordin. Like, his remark about her being a producer’s dream was part of his answer to a question about what kind of record he thought Jordin should make.

Blake also said he’s already talked to BT about producing on his album.

  300. Sarah, you made my point. You saw yourself voting for someone whose music you would buy and listen too and not just voting against someone. I felt sorry for Justin G because I believe a lot just voted for him to beat Kelly and not so much that they would support him when it was all said and done. I think the same was for Diana Degarmo.

I guess I was never that upset over someone winning that I was willing to vote against them. It either voted for my favorite or just was not that interested.

I watched Blake on Leno last week and he said he never watched American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦..so how did he have a fave à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’is he going by their cdà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s? My old feeble mind needs to know these thingsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.

I guess just from hearing their music, or downloading it. I know just a few hours ago I saw some show on E where some guy (I’m real specific huh?) was saying that Blake was asking him a bunch of questions about the finale b/c since he’d never seen one, he didn’t know what to expect.

  302. In the end, the most important “votes” come much later, when the CDs come out. Whoever wins has that added burden of being the Idol and with that the expectations of selling millions. I’m glad Melinda escaped that. I would almost rather see Jordin win and have that added pressure than Blake, although he would handle it much like Taylor has.

I’m pleased that Elliott is doing as well as he has and hope the single and his appearance last week will propel his CD way up the charts. I laughed when someone wrote earlier about how Carrie’s CD is still selling, wondering who is still buying it that didn’t already have it! I was one of those late buyers (actually downloaded it).

  303. I guess I was never that upset over someone winning that I was willing to vote against them. It either voted for my favorite or just was not that interested.

    _________________________

Eventhough I really never had a favorite this year, I did like LaKisha and Melinda and did vote for both of them in the past couple of weeks to keep them in the contest… TPTB must have found out how old I am..I don’t think my votes counted..

  304. Blake will be overwhelmed by the cheese! I’ll be watching him closely during the group numbers, knowing that he is probably dying a little inside! On season one (which I just watched again on Rewind), the groups numbers were horrendous, full of the best pointy poses in Idol History! Some of those people were truly bad!

  305. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m glad Melinda escaped that. I would almost rather see Jordin win and have that added pressure than Blake, although he would handle it much like Taylor has.

    ————————–
I’m sorta glad Melinda is gone too… She doesn’t need all that CARP in her life…

  306. Blake also said heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s already talked to BT about producing on his album.

If BT produces Blake’s CD, I will probably buy it. That is the only way I will buy it. BT is a genius.

  307. I think Jordin has several avenues she should go down musically- just because she is 17 does not mean she has to go the Hannah Montana route. I love how the guys are always considered serious musicians too good for AI and the girls are famewhores who can only do teeny bopper music.
I think Blake and Jordin will both sell moderately well but I don’t see either of them selling huge numbers. Blake appears to have a bigger hardcore fanbase- but I think Jordin has more charisma.

Also, Jordin’s mp3’s from this season are really, really good- much better than I thought they would be she does have a good recording voice. Blake seems to be very talented at arranging- so they both could come up with some very solid stuff. Time will tell.

As for past favorites: Kelly- season 1, Julia DeMato was an early fave in season 2 when she was voted off I was for Kim Locke, Diana DeGarmo in season 3, Carrie in season 4 and of course Katharine in season 5. This year I don’t have a favorite that I’m voting for but I have enjoyed performances by Sabrina Sloan, Melinda, Jordin, and I really liked AJ and Nick who were voted out in the semi’s. I’m not voting in the finale though and I don’t really care who wins.

  308. Blake also said heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s already talked to BT about producing on his album.

If BT produces Blakeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s CD, I will probably buy it. That is the only way I will buy it. BT is a genius.

Who is BT, may I ask?

  309. In the end, the most important à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“votesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ come much later, when the CDs come out. Whoever wins has that added burden of being the Idol and with that the expectations of selling millions. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m glad Melinda escaped that. I would almost rather see Jordin win and have that added pressure than Blake, although he would handle it much like Taylor has.

That’s the sadness of this show. The competition just never seems to end. It’s just one continuous world of competition. As I’ve said before, thank God that AI PTB’s venture into the movie industry failed or else there would be this nonstop competition to see whose favorite is the biggest boxoffice draw. When the show is over, I just wish everyone the best of luck and support whomever I care to listen to and support. Being a artist is hard enough without the added pressure of being part of some never ending competition brought on by greed.

  310. You saw yourself voting for someone whose music you would buy and listen too and not just voting against someone.

The PRIMARY REASON I was voting for Taylor was because I did not want *** to win. I had never voted for him before that night and did not plan on voting for him, unless *** made the finale over Elliott.

DO I NEED TO MAKE IT ANY MORE CLEAR?

  311. I hear you sexygirl. In the “real world,” though, I wonder if people actually care who the Idol is or whatever. Daughtry has gone far beyond the Idol world as have Kelly and Carrie. It’s only those who don’t do as well who are held to this rather unrealistic standard. Other artists would be ecstatic at selling 600K but for Bo and Taylor, this was seen as their being failures.

  312. When the show is over, I just wish everyone the best of luck and support whose I care to listen to and support. Being a artist is hard enough without the added pressure of being part of some never ending competition brought on by greed.

And in the case of IDOL MANIA… the OLDE GREEN EYED MONSTER known as JEALOUSY

  313. Blake was asking him a bunch of questions about the finale b/c since heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d never seen one, he didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know what to expect.

I sure hope Kristi has clued him in, since she’s an AI fan. :)

Whatcha wanna bet she’s the one who told him she was taking him to the auditions in the first place?

  314. okay sarah – I’ll throw some votes to blake – just for you and pj and whoever else here is pulling for him. you’re sure you want him to win????

  315. The PRIMARY REASON I was voting for Taylor was because I did not want *** to win. I had never voted for him before that night and did not plan on voting for him, unless *** made the finale over Elliott.

DO I NEED TO MAKE IT ANY MORE CLEAR?

No need to be shout Sarah. I personally don’t care.. But, thanks for clearing it up and shouting while your at it. You know us old folks are not only hard of hearing but don’t always comprehend too quickly either..

  316. spare me your crap. i need no prayers. some of you, the TOS, can not see how truly ridiculous you have become. and it is beyond sad really.
    ______________________________________

    What does TOS mean?

  317. Thanks Folk. I’ve been seeing it here and there and have been wondering.

  318. So, I’ve been watching the TV Guide Channel for the past hour or so, and it’s been nothing but AI. I don’t know if I can keep watching…too much cheese – I’m getting nauseas. Must. turn. channel.

  319. Lisa B…yeah…long time away. I appreciated all the “news” you posted but got “tard” of the fan war…yours is better than mine that was on going last year and excuses why *** did not win. Got to the point I couldn’t stand to hear “McPheever”. I actually have not watched AI this year. I know the finale is upcoming and plan to watch so thought I would log on and see what was going on. Couldn’t believe the same ole from last year about Taylor. I was glad to see you were still posting.

    Sarah–how do you like Orlando….?

    Folk….has Hot4 been around lately?

    Hi MJ.

    Take care all.

  320. Speaking of Taylor, turns out he bought 3 lots of lakefront property at Lake Guntersville and the foundation is now layed. Folks in the area saw him drive by in a 30 ft limo to view his property recently. He said he intends to build a vacation home there. During his appearances at The Oaks yesterday, 55 out of 107 lots were sold.

Imagine wondering where you next gig was coming from a year and half ago to what Taylor has now. Boggles the mind.

  321. As I think has been pointed out NUMEROUS times by Nola and some others – here are Jordin’s options:

    1. Disney – strike while the iron’s hot and she just might be HUGE with the little girls who like the “pretty princesses”.
    2. Sexy top 40 in the vein of Fergie, Ciara, Rihanna, Christina, Beyonce, etc. – her morals and values will stand in the way of her going this route. I don’t see Jordin singing songs like “Fergalicious”, sawry.
    3. Adult contemporary in the vein of Mariah, Celine, Whitney, etc. – possibly too young for this genre? After all, she’s only! 17!!!111!1!1!1!!!

People keep saying she’s marketable. Singing what kind of music? Musically, she’s one big question mark. Especially if you go by the songs she’s sung on the show – mainly big ballads.

  322. really griz? what rate on his mortgage did he get? has his title check run clean? when is the closing date? how much does he have in escrow? is it hard wood floors, or maybe rugs? how many bays in the garage? does it have a pool? how many baths???

i mean…how could we live without the details?

  323. really griz? what rate on his mortgage did he get? has his title check run clean? when is the closing date? how much does he have in escrow? is it hard wood floors, or maybe rugs? how many bays in the garage? goes it have a pool? how many baths???

i meanà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦how could we live without the details?

This was posted for your benefit Folk, since I know you’re a big Taylor fan and wanted to know…. I’ll have the info on your desk in the morning. :lol_tb:

  324. But, thanks for clearing it up and shouting while your at it.

Well, apparently I need to use all caps in order to get my point across.

  325. :wallbash_tb:

(Getting a lot of use out of this one today – for reasons that are obvious, and those that are not.)

  326. By the way, are you happier days on TWoP? If you are I quite enjoy our sparring there as well :-P

Ok first of all what it TWop, and I don’t think who you are talking about is me, because there is only one other posting name I use and it’s not happier days.

So I’m really not sure who you’re sparring with???

  327. ::handing out the extra strength Tylenol:: Gonna need it w/ all the :wallbash_tb: today. :blink_tb:

  328. okay sarah – Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll throw some votes to blake – just for you and pj and whoever else here is pulling for him. youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re sure you want him to win????

Oh yeah, DEFINITELY. Why get to the top 2 then not win? He’s gonna be tied to them now anyway… so why not win?

    THANK YOU! :)

  329. And then thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the OOOTOS

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ obsessives who obsess over Taylor obsessives.

LOL but shouldn’t that read OWOOTOS

    O-W-O-O-T-O-S
Still don’t get the S at the end ..Since when is Obsessive two words?

  330. I guess I’m just sick of the Daughtry remarks. It used to be Clay Aiken, and, now it’s little d, who is the standard for non winners. They all win when they have a post-idol career. Isn’t that why they auditioned in the first place? I think so. I personally don’t care who wins this year, as I don’t support either one. Maybe Sanjaya will be the breakout star from this season. Then next year, we call all say, will this or that person be the next Sanjaya? I’m so “Over It.”

Seems like Blake has Taylor’s attitude of in your face toward TPTB. I do like that about him.

  331. I actually see Jordin recording an album similar to Kat’s – innocuous throwaway tunes that will be semi-successful on radio and sell albums. Because she’s only 17 (OMG, I didn’t know that), I doubt she’ll be given anything too edgy. From what I’ve read about her, it would appear she’s religious, which would also preclude anything terribly scandalous.

What’s interesting is that Mr. FD (the man who hates American Idol), has watched quite a few episodes with me this year, and picked Jordin from the beginning as the winner. He also picked Fantasia season three and Carrie season four. He hated Taylor! Still, he refuses to go to any show by any Idol with me, which is probably a good thing cuz he’d criticize the entire evening.

I actually listen to some of his rants about the show, though, because he is a musician and hears things that I don’t. He doesn’t like Blake at all, liked Melinda and really liked LaKisha. Strange how people who are all involved view this show.

  332. generally an s would indicate the plural. as there are more than one of you.

  333. This was posted for your benefit Folk, since I know youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re a big Taylor fan and wanted to knowà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll have the info on your desk in the morning.

This is why I love you, Griz.. LOL

  334. generally an s would indicate the plural. as there are more than one of you.
    ___________________________—-

I hope you are Not referring to me as being obsessive Folk when you state there is more than one of YOU..
I am more than willing to meet you in CHAT..

  335. Foxydonna, I can’t imagine anyone hating Taylor. I liked LaKisha too, and, I think with the right opportunities, she could give JHud a run for her money in the vocal department.

  336. Foxy – that’s interesting about Mr. FD for sure.

I’ve heard of some musicians who really like Blake, and some who don’t. To me, that shows even more that he’s a very polarizing musician.

And yeah, Jordin’s pretty religious. She toured with Michael W. Smith, I believe, and he’s HUGE in the Christian music world.

  337. but i could meet you (singular) in chat to sayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦if the shoe fitsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

  338. And yeah, Jordinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s pretty religious. She toured with Michael W. Smith, I believe, and heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s HUGE in the Christian music world.

    …..maybe she’ll pray for folk too….. :smiley2_tb:

  339. And yeah, Jordinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s pretty religious. She toured with Michael W. Smith, I believe, and heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s HUGE in the Christian music world.

Well, she will fit in quite fine in the music industry then. They last time I check there were quite a few religious folks in the industry.. I happen to like Michael W. Smith by the way.

  340. And, did you know that Jordin is only 17? Gosh, I think Sanjaya is only 17 also. Wonder why that doesn’t get media attention? Maybe his hair is more newsworthy.

  341. Sheesh

I still see alot of the same people on the blog.

I am going to watch the finale and I did see TH up here in Portland. I slipped in and out of the joint with a friend. Didn’t hang around to get autograph etc. Actually I was a bit snookered so I am quite happy I did not hang around. The dance floor at the Crystal Ballroom is quite bouncy.

Was Elliot on the show last week? I haven’t been keeping up with anyone. I didn’t even know that Taylor was on the Tonight Show. Is Daughtery going to be on AI Tuesday?

Who is going to be on the finale? I assume Taylor, but is anyone from season 5 or previous seasons?

  342. I’m not sure what Jordin’s religious beliefs have to do with much. Melinda’s religious beliefs were just as strong- does that mean she will be limited in the type of music that she records too?

Carrie was religious- first single about Jesus even won her a Dove Award- didn’t stop her from recording Before He Cheats.

And perhaps AI wants to somewhat tap into the contemporary Christian market? There’s some money to be made in that genre of music.

  343. I don’t want BT producing Blakes album, he’s kinda out dated now. And Blake likes to make fun of boybands, yet BT produced some of JC Chasez solo stuff, and even the song “Pop” By Nsync

  344. Did you vote for Taylor because you didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t like Kat? Or did you vote for Taylor because your favorite was voted off early and he became the next likable character?

I voted for Elliott after Ace and then Taylor. I only voted for Taylor b/c I didn’t want Kat to win. I wanted a realy musician vs. a pageant queen.

I’m way behind because I spent a fun weekend in Nashvegas, so I’ve just been skimming.

Can I say again that Blake is a GOOD SINGER. He is not a belter, but my boy can sing.

I would challenge Jordin to fall on her face singing many of the tunes Blake has doen this year.

  345. PJ: The flip side of that coin: let’s hear Blake sing some of the songs that Jordin has sung and hit the notes. Um, yeah.

They both have different appeals- but I don’t think they can be compared directly- because they are too different.

  346. PJ: The flip side of that coin: letà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s hear Blake sing some of the songs that Jordin has sung and hit the notes. Um, yeah.

They both have different appeals- but I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think they can be compared directly- because they are too different.

Well, that’s exactly my point. I keep reading these articles that say Jordin is a better singer and I think that’s carp. They have different strengths. So, yes, we agree.

  347. Didn’t I predict at the beginning that BB boy was going to win?

Taylor with harmonica and BB boy. Should be interesting finale.

  348. Well, she will fit in quite fine in the music industry then.

Not if they want her to go the sleazy, sexy pop route.

And I like Michael W. Smith as well. I grew up on his music.

  349. And I like Michael W. Smith as well. I grew up on his music.

    Because friends are friends forever…. *sniff*sniff* :tongue_laugh_ee:

  350. Ok first of all what it TWop, and I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think who you are talking about is me, because there is only one other posting name I use and ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not happier days.

TWoP is Television Without Pity, and “happier days” is just someone who has a similar posting style to you that I enjoy a good-natured debate with every once in a while. No biggie. :-)

  353. Blake talks to reporters:

“For his own album, Lewis says his dream producers include à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Father of Tranceà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ music BT (‘N Sync, Tori Amos), Darkchild (Beyonce, Mary J Blige), Will.I.Am (Black Eyed Peas, Fergie) and Pro J (Robin Thicke). Jordin talks to reporters:

    http://blogs.usatoday.com/idolchatter/2007/05/jordin_talks_to.html

“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s youngest top 12 contestant this season, Jordin Sparks, is gearing up for the finale this week, telling reporters on Fridayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s call that she has no planned strategy. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m just going to try and do my best and hopefully people like the songs that I pick,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ she said. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Whatever happens on Wednesday will happen, and Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m just going to give it my all and leave it all out there.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

  356. This is a test post for all those control F surfers.. LOL.

    [Blake]

You are SOOOO WRONG about Blake, Boulder. You better provide a photchop to prove it. Blake in brackets? You must think he’s already chained down by TPTB. Don’t try to go all subtle on me.

  357. PJ:

A ball and chain photochop will take me a few and I am tied up in chat. But will work on it

  358. xoxo, thanks for the article. Looks like those interviews are taken from the podcasts I linked a page or two ago.

Star, sorry if you had already linked to them. I didn’t remember reading particularly the stuff about Blake.

  359. http://www.finebaum.com/

Sportscaster, Paul Finebaum, interviews Taylor st the Golf Tournament. Topic: his life and career.

Taylor is warm and chatty. Raves about how much he loves football and fans.

  360. Star, sorry if you had already linked to them. I didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t remember reading particularly the stuff about Blake.

that’s okay, I just thought it was funny that USA Today was so late getting their story out there while the rest of the media has been reporting this stuff all weekend. :)

  361. I am listening to this interview with Blake that Star posted earlier and I agree with her… lots of the interview with Blake has been taken out of context in the media. LOL. Not surprising, I guess.

Thanks for posting it, earlier, Star.

I guess Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m just sick of the Daughtry remarks. It used to be Clay Aiken, and, now ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s little d, who is the standard for non winners.

little d has a long way to go before he catches up to the Aiken. I’m not just talking sales either, although there’s that too. Clay is working on his 5th CD now, not including the 2 he released before AI. Let’s wait and see if little d even has a career in 5 years.

Check out Earth, Wind and Fire on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth,_Wind_&_Fire

Quite an impressive career. And, donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t forget, they opened the show for Idol Gives Back on April 25th. Clive Davis actually bought their contract at one time. A very interesting read.

Love this hit EWF had in 1988:

1988 “Turn On (The Beat Box)”

  364. Boulder, that’s obviously fake. I said TPTB. Not Clive. He’s already been embalmed and shipped to Cleveland.

  365. I, for one, appreciate these little tidbits of info. Thanks Griz.

Your welcome Cam! I know there’s a lot of people interested in Taylor’s going-on’s, whether they want to admit it or not, despite what certain people want you to think ;)

  366. Hey Griz,
where is the property that he purchased? which state? thanx.

  367. nola,
guess us red state conservatives better get over there and vote on that poll ;)

  368. nola,
the only poll i saw was -do you think jail will scar Paris Hilton mentally-something like that;) Can we still vote on the idol poll or is it finished?

  369. weelassie, scroll down to the bottom. The AI poll is on the right side. It’s still up there.

Who do you think should be the next American Idol?

    Jordin Sparks 63% 11471 votes

    Blake Lewis 37% 6821 votes

    Total: 18292 votes
