…As Season Six nears a close à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ the final competition is on May 22, with the finals on May 23 à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ hereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a look at where some of the contestants are now. Cowell loses his lustre to Laurie

Simon Cowell is still the top dog on American television, but he may be losing his touch. The acerbic host and chief critic on the wildly popular talent show American Idol – an offshoot of the UK original, Pop Idol – has lost around three million viewers over the past year.

Meanwhile, another Brit, Hugh Laurie, who follows him on the air on Wednesday nights in the medical melodrama House, is one of the few TV stars in the US who is holding his own….

American Idol Contestant Surprises North Oregon Coast

The tiny town of Cannon Beach got a bit of a surprise Wednesday with an appearance by a former contestant on Foxà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ show.

Tami Gosnell played a practically impromptu set at the Warren House Pub that night, to a mellow but somewhat full house, filling the show with powerful acoustic versions of her original material and a rousing, rather intense set of covers from a variety of eras….

… à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“She had quite an impact on the audience when her segments first aired,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ said Stimpson. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“She had the most hits of all the female singers at the time. The Associated Press ran a story saying she was basically the most interesting at that point.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

That AP story did some siazable things for Gosnellà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s career, she said. The show itself was major publicity, but the subsequent media buzz was even bigger.

    à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re now in touch with a lot of publicists who want to work with her,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Stimpson said. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re heading to Memphis to record some songs soon, and thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a record company in L.A. thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s interested in her. Thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a great team thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s developing here. Sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been talking to the press constantly since the show.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ……

Blake Lewis may stand a chance at American Idol afterall

I was starting to think that Blake Lewis would be the next to get voted off American Idol, but after seeing the crowds that came out in support of Blake in his home town of Bothell as he popped in for a visit this weekend.

The town of Bothell was flooded with Blake Lewis fans. Evidently the crowds were so crazy that the Seattle Post Intelligencer is tagging it “Blakemania.”…….

Chris Richardson to get homecoming fanfare

A marching band and cheerleaders will be part of the welcoming committee Monday for former “American Idol” contestant Chris Richardson.

The party, on the same field where the singer once played high school football, will begin at 6 p.m. at Colin L. Hall Stadium in Chesapeake. It’s free and open to the public. Richardson, who was eliminated from the popular competition recently, will sign autographs after the event. He isn’t allowed to perform at the party because of contract restrictions….

    SOAPY IDOL
    CONSTANTINE FEELS ‘BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL’

…”They [the B&B producers] called me up and came to me with this idea and I thought it was great. This character wants to blow himself up as a producer, like Pharrell or Kanye West,” says Maroulis, 31. “It’s sort of the hip trend right now.”

Maroulis has the biggest set — a studio called Boldface Records — on the B&B lot and he gets to schmooze with actors like Jack Wagner (“I grew up watching that guy!” says Maroulis), and makes a romantic play for the beautiful MacKenzie Mauzy (played by Phoebe Forrester).

“It’s a juicy, juicy plot and I have a beautiful girl to work opposite, and I’m going to presenting at the daytime Emmys with her,” he says. “It’s a great honor.”

Maroulis will also debut his first single on the show. “Everybody Loves, Everybody Cries,” is off his new album, which still has no title but is expected to hits stores in July…

American Idol Standards of Fitness and Weight Loss

The smash hit American Idol TV show is truly a phenomenon. Even eBay watch as their online shopping fall off the cliff, while the show is on. With so many viewers are the contestants also idols for fitness and health?

Obviously those that add energetic choreography to their acts have to be fit, but those that rely solely on their pipes, shall we say are a little more plump around the middle. Although she was nixed by Simon Cowell, a full figured Jennifer Hudson went on to win an academy award.

But our hat goes off to Ruben Studdard, the American Idol winner in 2003, who then tipped the scales at 400 pounds. He has subsequently gone on to lose, what is rumored to be 100 pounds, and has become an evangelist to kids for healthy living………

Bothell: American Idol finalist Blake Lewis draws 7,000 to a hometown parade

The reality is that this 25-year-old from Bothell is America’s new “it.” Even if he doesn’t win the American Idol contest, as one of three finalists, he’s likely to surf the show into ongoing stardom. And his screaming hometown fans knew this as they turned out for a downtown Bothell parade. He later sang the National Anthem at a Mariners game. The Everett Herald, the Seattle Times, the Post Intelligencer, all had page one lead stories…..

Is Jordin Sparks American Idol’s Next Controvesy

Could American Idol be rigged? The notion is ridiculous to fans, but a boon for cynics; a contestant shuttled in by American Idol’s biggest sponsor, innocently recognized for her famous heritage, and now the reveal that she actually met the American Idol judges in advance of the competition. Suspicious bloggers are putting Jordin Sparks under the same microscope Tom Lowe was examined with when it was revealed he was a backup singer that frequented Simon Cowell’s record label. There is no doubt that Jordin is phenomenally talented, but her spot in the competition earned by nefarious means? Let’s examine the evidence…….

Modest Mouse’s gritty style intact after commercial hit

…Many of the band’s old fans were uneasy about seeing their heroes with a hit, and the cries of “sellout” increased this year when “American Idol” contestants sang “Float On” in a music video sponsored by Ford.

His manager warned him that allowing the song to be used in that way could be a bad PR move, but Brock says he couldn’t resist the opportunity.

“I’m not a singer, per se,” he explains. “I do what I do, and I do it with some style. It works. But the type of singing that they tend to do on `American Idol’ is what I call `sodeling’ – the combination of soul and yodeling. The thought that someone would be crooning away and sodeling on one of our songs seemed hilarious to me.”…

    Dairy/weight loss

    ad campaign ends

A national advertising campaign that associates dairy products with weight loss will be curtailed because research does not support the claim, according to the Federal Trade Commission.

The advertisements, conceived by the promotional arm of the dairy industry and overseen by the Agriculture Department, feature slogans like “Milk your diet. Lose weight!” and suggest that three servings of dairy products a day can help people be slim.

The effort includes a campaign called “Body by Milk” that is aimed at teenagers. It features Alex Rodriguez, the third baseman for the New York Yankees, and Carrie Underwood, an American Idol winner.
The assertion that there is a link between weight loss and dairy consumption has long been contested by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, which promotes a diet free of animal products.

In a May 3 letter, Lydia Parnes, director of the agency’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, said Agriculture Department representatives and milk producers and processors had agreed to change the advertisements and related marketing materials “until further research provides stronger, more conclusive evidence of an association between dairy consumption and weight loss.”

As of Thursday, the National Dairy Council still had a section of its Web site devoted to the weight-loss claim.

But the site, along with some of the advertisements, will be changed, said Greg Miller, who is executive vice president of the council and has a doctorate in nutrition.

Cannon Beach, OR is one of my favorite places in the world. How cool that Tammy Gosnell picked such a place to make a surprise appearance. I wish she had gone further on the show.

As for the article about Jordin winning Arizona Idol being an unfair advantage: lots of states hold such contests. I believe several other former contestants won their states Idol contests. If they want to make that grounds for Jordin to be DQ’ed well then they are going to have DQ all contestants who ever won such a show. Seriously, people need to chill out- trying to dig up any dirt just to dig up makes these people seem like poor losers.

And speaking of Paula, just how impressive is Abdul’s knowledge of football?

Paula Abdul was a cheerleader and a former Laker girl. I think she should know her team sports.

And of course, Jordin isn’t the first Arizona Idol to have been in the top 24 of American Idol. I mentioned yesterday how Suzie Vulaca, the Arizona Idol then, was in the top 24 and how I thought she should have made the top 12 in Season 3 ( Season 3 had the WEAKEST male line-up ever and they had to eliminate some very talented female singers ( the other being Lisa Leuschner ) to make way for guys like John Stevens and Matt Rogers ).

Unfortunately then, the top 12 were chosen by the judges, not America. It changed in Season 4.

To Soul Patrolers and Interested Parties…

Taylor Hicks ended his 60 city US tour in Seattle last night. This post from the Boogie board tells us that :

The crowd was great. Full venue, lots of men and younger women. Crowd loved him. Everyone standing on the floor (at least in the first 10 rows or more), people crowded up to the stage at the end. Just a great reception. I’m very proud of Seattle. We did him. Um. Proud.

BTW, I heard he sang DO I MAKE YOU PROUD ( the only time he sang it on tour ). He doesn’t hate the song after all.

And here’s another fun tidbit … did you remember Gray Charles posting a video of Taylor and Loren Gold deadpanning to an interviewer about possibly covering ABBA songs ? Most of us thought he was joking and we left it at that.

Well guess what ? HE DID DANCING QUEEN in an encore !!

    He wasn’t lying after all.

I’d like to hear what Simon and other critics have to say after that !

There is a rumor posted at IDF that according to a post at TWOP Melinda Dolittle is singing “Since You’ve Been Gone” Tuesday night.

Since we also have rumor that Jordin is singing “I Who Have Nothing” I wonder if maybe Clive is not picking songs for the contestants this season?

  • jersey

xo – I’m confused (been busy this weekend). Why would those songs preclude Clive from picking songs for the contestants?

  • lg

The Buffalo News article was a pretty good one until it got to the very last sentence:

Status: Popular with his fans, Hicks has never reached the heights that some other winners have.

That’s a ridiculous statement, since it’s just been a year since Taylor took the crown.

I love that Taylor performed DIMYP at his last show, that song has a special place in my heart. And the ABBA Dancing Queen tease, how funny is that?

Can’t wait to see Taylor and Elliott again on AI.

Wishing a happy and blessed Mother’s Day to all. :)

  • JustSomeGuy

What’s up with Jordin having an unfair advantage.
Can’t believe we keep forgetting this but…

She’s only seventenn(17) years old people!!!!!

    Geez…..

  • jersey

I also have another “I’m confused” question. Do we actually have confirmation that Taylor is going to be on the finale? I know he mentioned it way back when. More as an offhand remark than anything else. I also know that Nigel at one point said they were planning on having Taylor back. But has there been an actual official announcement? I think I’m in the same camp as cheese (see yesterday’s thread) I’ll believe it when I see it.

  • LB2

There is a rumor posted at IDF that according to a post at TWOP Melinda Dolittle is singing à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Since Youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve Been Goneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Tuesday night.

This is how it starts, lol. TWoP people were just speculating that Melinda would be singing that because Jordin is reprising one of her songs (so IDF is misinformed). There is nothing to suggest that the format has changed; just speculation to explain why Jordin is reprising a song/allowed to reprise a song in the semifinal.

It’s possible Clive won’t be involved with the top 3 this year (and they will all be reprising songs) but no substantive proof yet.

  • jersey

I still don’t understand LB. Don’t they sing three songs anyway? One from the judges, one from Clive, and one they pick themselves.

  • JustSomeGuy

Yeah, I agree…from all the rumours I think it would be easier to come up with a list of who is not in the final.
And since the AI5 final was my favorite two hours of television last year, I’d be interested in knowing who for sure is going to perform this year.

  • emeralgem

I still donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t understand LB. Donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t they sing three songs anyway? One from the judges, one from Clive, and one they pick themselves.

    —————————–

That’s my understanding, and the one they pick for themselves is one that they have already performed on Idol..Is that correct?

    Good morning everyone..
Hope everyone has a BLESSED and HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY.

  • LB2

It’s possible, Jersey, that next week will be judge’s choice, Clive’s choice and reprisal of one of their older songs.

I’m hesitant to say that’s the format conclusively because a friend of Blake’s mentioned last week that Blake made his personal song choice weeks ago and is really excited about it. It’s possible this new format was a last minute change to do reprisals instead or it’s possible that the contestants have a choice to do reprisals or a new song. It seems weird to do reprisals now though because what about the finale then?

Regardless, Jordin doing I Who Have Nothing is a good choice. Melinda doing Since You’ve Been Gone is a good choice as well. Blake should do Time of the Season (too soon to bring out the Bon Jovi again I think).

  • jersey

em – Last year, the one they pick themselves could be anything. That’s the night Taylor did “Try a Little Tenderness”, which he hadn’t performed previously.

  • Lu

So Elliott is on AI this Wednesday, Chris is on next Tuesday and Taylor is on next Wednesday… Is that what’s confirmed so far?

I’m really curious to see how things shake out for the final three. If it’s totally based on singing, it would be Melinda/Jordin in my opinion. I’m not sure there will be a tremendous amount of interest in a Melinda/Jordin finale. That’s my own personal bias I guess since I’m partial to male vocalists – smart move on AI’s part to put Chris on that night. If Taylor is indeed on the finale, that should guarantee good ratings.

  • jersey

Lu, if Taylor is confirmed for the finale, I don’t know about it.

ETA: Not that that means anything, LOL.

  • Lu

LB2: Blake should do Time of the Season (too soon to bring out the Bon Jovi again I think).

Amen to that! I;d love to hear Time of the Season again. I’m not a huge Blake fan but I LOVED his version of this song – much better than the original for me.

  • Lu

jersey – People have been talking about Taylor being on the finale like it’s a definite… it’s not?

  • emeralgem

em – Last year, the one they pick themselves could be anything. Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the night Taylor did à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Try a Little Tendernessà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , which he hadnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t performed previously.

    ————–
Thanks Jersey, NOW I remember.., but didn’t he do Levon for the second time toward the end or was it Livin for the City? What night was that?
Apparently,I’m having some serious Senior moments this morning..

  • jersey

lu – I don’t know. I asked the same question just a few posts above you.
em – they reprised their previous songs on final two night last year.

  • jpfan

I’m 100% convinced that Taylor will be on the finale. I thought someone posted that he’d confirmed it. Kelly Clarkson confirmed that she’ll be there as well. By the way, Kelly’s single looks to be stalling on the Top 40 charts (maybe that’s why she’s going on AI) and it is POSSIBLE that Elliott will chart higher than her. Unbelievable but possible.) (She’s at 22 and he’s at 27 as of today.
Home looks to go to the top of the charts as well.

  • LB2

They may be doing reprisals (nothing is confirmed yet) to give them a break since they had their hometown visits, recordings of their songs this week, Leno, etc.. Plus they will also be recording the coronation songs soon (don’t the top 3 or 4 usually do this? I know Elliott recorded Do I Make You Proud).

Although it’s nice to give them a break, I look forward to the personal picks.

  • emeralgem

em – they reprised their previous songs on final two night last year.

Happy Mother’s Day! We’re heading out to brunch once we drag the kids out of bed. For teenagers, 11 is in the dead of night, lol. I love this day, no cooking or cleaning and getting presents. :thumbup_tb:

Ignore this part if you’re not a Chris fan (thought I’d give you a little review):

We had so much fun at Taste Addison last night. We got there early enough to try out some different foods/drinks before the crowds were unmanageable. I had coconut spicy shrimp skewers and a wonderful salmon taco with some great veges in it along with a pomegranite margarita. They make the food servings smaller so you can try different things so it wasn’t too bad until I topped it with homemade mint-choc chip ice cream, lol. There was a little rain at one point but wasn’t too bad, just enough to make the grass wet.

The crowds got larger and was very apparent that people were there to see Daughtry (and hopefully Lifehouse later). The preceding bands made a few comments about it and the second one took pics of the crowd. It was possibly their biggest one ever. I have no idea how many were there but it was way over my comfort level. The performance itself was as good as I expected although Chris seemed to be having some problem with hoarseness on the upper notes. He had no such problem on songs like Home and Pearl Jam’s Black. He was great with the crowd and even jumped down to greet the ones in front at the end. A lot of people must have been there for Chris because it took us 45 mins. to get out of the parking garage after. Overall a lot of fun. :laugh_tb:

  • JustSomeGuy

As for Tuesday night’s spoilers, I think Paula nailed it if indeed Blake will be singing Roxanne. A song that’ll be right in his zone. Of all the judges’ this season, Paula’s exceeded expectations.
As for Clive’s choice for Blake, I can’t bear the thought. Or is it bare the thought. Dunno. You tell me.

However, if Clive did pick Since You’e Been Gone for Melinda that’s a stroke of genius.
If Melinda slows SYBG down, and turns it into a rhythm and blues number, then that could be the wow moment we have been waiting for.

As for Jordin, I Who Have Nothing, or I Have Nothing???? I am just so confused. Can’t imagine how Jordin can sort it out. On top of the three hours of homework she’s gotta do every day. The kid’s only seventeen (17) years old. Sometimes we forget that.

  • radname

Jordins doing I Who have Nothing

  • bean99

An update to my review. Apparently Chris came out and sang “Hanging by a Moment” with Lifehouse. Too bad we didn’t stay.

I hope Melinda does well with Since U Been Gone because it seems to be above her key. At this point, I’d love to see a Blake/Melinda final 2 just because of the pimping of Jordin. I’m very afraid of what Clive will pick out for Blake. I’m hoping Blake will do Somewhere only we Know or TOTS but think he’ll pick something else.

Hey everyone…seems like all I’ve done lately is bring down the spirit of the blog. I’m just asking for some prayers if you’re the praying type. My mom collapsed at my daughters’ dance recital Friday night. She’s been hospitalized all weekend and we just found out she needs valve replacement and possibly bypass surgery as well. She’s strong and healthy otherwise so the doctors are very optimistic. Thanks everyone.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there! Hope your day is fun and relaxing and full of great presents! :wink1_tb:

Kirsten - glad you had a blast at your concert! Can’t wait to read the full recap!

Bean – glad you had a blast at your concert! The food (and the performances!) sounded like they were amazing!

If indeed Melinda does sing “Since You’ve Been Gone” (which is mere speculation at this point, correct?), wouldn’t it be a reprise of the same song she did in the semi-finals?

Agree that Blake should reprise “Time of the Season” if indeed they reprise this week. I’d almost rather have one reprise and a new song instead of a new song and Clive’s choice. *shudder*

Also, I have no problem with Jordin winning Arizona Idol. My problem is that she supposedly auditioned for/was on American Juniors. She may not have known the judges back then, but don’t Nigel and Ken produce that show?

Lu, my thoughts go out to you, on my 17th birthday my dad had been emitted into the hospital for a triple bypass the day before and he’s fine now (he has diabetes, a triple bypass, broken has back, and has gotten run over a bus all before the age of 50)
in fact as we speak, he’s singing “to love somebody” (i was singing it after listening to jordins version and now he’s singing it) and making BLTs for the family.

  • http://blog.syracuse.com/idolthoughts/ foxydonna

Lu, sorry to hear about your mother… wishing her a speedy recovery. Don’t forget to take care of yourself during this stressful time, okay…

I’ve been reading the comments every day, but can no longer post responses from the computer I am using during the day (I’m working as a contractor for a large company). That’s probably best anyway as they are paying me to work, not to chat about Idol!

Anyway, I read that stupid Jordin “conspiracy” article and laughed. The photo of Jordin that the writer points to as “evidence” could have been taken anywhere. How many photos of people with celebs are floating around out there. Hell, I’ve got one with Bo that someone could use as evidence that we were involved in some kind of relationship (wishful thinking, eh?). There may be some backstage manipulation going on, but I highly doubt Simon had anything to do with Jordin making the top three.

Taylor’s send-off in his final spring concert last night in Seattle spoke clearly and loudly to the naysayers and critics, sending a clear message of disregard to them – an encore that started with Do I Make You Proud and transitioning to Dancing Queen back to Do I Make You Proud, shaking his stuff (I’m certain that would have made Simon pee in his pants if he saw that). hahaha!!!

    Ah, man, he’s such a rebel! :thumbup_tb:

  • sexygirl

BTW, I heard he sang DO I MAKE YOU PROUD ( the only time he sang it on tour ). He doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t hate the song after all.

Did Taylor ever said he hated the song..OOps, forgive me I forgot, it’s never what these constants say. It’s how the fans feel. Case in point, Taylor’s final song was DIMYP and Dancing Queen and some is already interpreting to mean him thumbing his nose up at the critics..Why, because some want to believe he feels the same way they do. I personally saw it at as a “thank you” to his fans and quite an appropriate “Taylor Hicks” ending to his first successful solo tour.

( Season 3 had the WEAKEST male line-up ever and they had to eliminate some very talented female singers ( the other being Lisa Leuschner ) to make way for guys like John Stevens and Matt Rogers ).

Unfortunately then, the top 12 were chosen by the judges, not America. It changed in Season 4.

The judges did not chose the Top 12 for AI3 or any other season.

For AI1, the judges unanimously selected ONE performer (RJ Helton)after the wildcard show after the other 9 of the Top 10 were voted through by viewers.

For AI2, each judge was allowed to select one performer after the wildcard show after the other 8 of that year’s Top 12 were voted through by viewers; Randy selected Kim Caldwell, Paula selected Trenyce, and Simon selected Carmen Rasmussen. America’s wild card choice was Clay.

For AI3, once again, each judge was allowed to select one performer after the wildcard show after 8 of that year’s Top 12 were voted through by viewers; Randy selected Jennifer Hudson, Paula selected Leah LaBelle, and Simon selected George Huff. America’s wild card choice was JPL.

What changed for AI4 and beyond was that the Top 32 became a Top 24, and that gender equality in the finals was mandated by dividing the semifinals performances into a girl’s night and a guy’s night.

Sometimes weaker male singers have made the cut over more talented female singers, but the opposite is also true.

She not only “did” it, she killed it, and early on in the competition. Whenever I read yet another comment about Melinda’s “boring” performances and how she needs to “change it up” I think of this number, and “Woman”, and country night, and Bon Jovi night, and Latin night….

I can understand how a particular genre of music or characteristics of a singer’s voice may not spark a connection, or fails to keep your attention, or can even be irritating — kind of like Blake for me. But I like to think I can — and I try to — recognize and acknowledge quality and talent, even though that particular “product” ain’t for me. The “another boring performance” and “diva” drumbeat mystifies me. I suspect that someone like Peggy Lee probably would have put most of you into a coma.

I just wonder what all the naysayers are really talking about at times. (I mean that in the nicest possible way).

I think Elliott would look better if he just let his beardline grow farther down. Right now from that pictures it looks like an obvious “trying to give his chin more definition” attempt.

I find it interesting that this year when ratings are down a bit, votes seem to be up from what Ryan says. Didn’t he announce something like 45 million votes cast last week? And it seems like it was always around 32 to 36 million the year before.

I actually don’t find it hard to believe at all. I have voted both seasons.

RE: Cat Stevens, now Yusuf Islam

It would’ve been OK if Cat Stevens ( AKA Yusuf ) converted into the more moderate form of Islam. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case.

Read this from the New York Times : ( that was 1989 so I am not sure if his practice of Islam has changed since then )

    http://www.nytimes.com/books/99/04/18/specials/rushdie-cat.html

Cat Stevens Gives Support To Call for Death of Rushdie

    By CRAIG R. WHITNEY

LONDON, May 22 — The musician known as Cat Stevens said in a British television program to be broadcast next week that rather than go to a demonstration to burn an effigy of the author Salman Rushdie, ”I would have hoped that it’d be the real thing.”

The singer, who adopted the name Yusuf Islam when he converted to Islam, made the remark during a panel discussion of British reactions to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s call for Mr. Rushdie to be killed for allegedly blaspheming Islam in his best-selling novel ”The Satanic Verses.” He also said that if Mr. Rushdie turned up at his doorstep looking for help, ”I might ring somebody who might do more damage to him than he would like.”

”I’d try to phone the Ayatollah Khomeini and tell him exactly where this man is,” said Mr. Islam, who watched a preview of the program today and said in an interview that he stood by his comments.

READ ABOVE LINK FOR THE REST…

  • MaryS-NJ

I’m aware of the controversy about Yusef’s comments about the fatwa against Salman Rushdie. I believe that he has since stated his regret, and that Mr. Rushdie has accepted that. If I’m wrong, please feel free to correct me.

Yusef also gave up music with his conversion because he was lead to believe it was un-Islamic. He’s since learned otherwise. So, I think it’s probable that his beliefs have evolved.

For anyone interested, here’s Yusef Islam performing his (Cat Stevens) song, Peace Train at the Nobel Concert in 2006:

Me too pj, but I think we are going to have to vote our butts off and even that may not be enough!

Just wanted to take a minute and wish all the mom’s on here a happy mother’s day :)

Lu- My thoughts and prayers are with your family. I hope all goes well with your mom’s surgery and that she has a speedy recovery. ((((hugs)))))

Happy Mom’s Day. Here’s a link to a review of the Kiis=fm concert where Kelly Clarkson and Elliott performed. His appearance is noted
    in the comments.

Are you suggesting they are lying about the vote totals?

Aw, fer cryin’ out loud…..No, I just find it odd.

  • jpfan

Okay the link didn’t work so I’ll just post the important stuff from the Wango Tango review:

“In shades, jeans and a shirt you could probably find at Anchor Blue, Yamin was a far cry from the suit-wearing crooner that captured Paula Abdul’s heart on television. His brand of R&B, seemingly a throwback to the good stuff from the ’90s, went over well early in the lineup.”
