Season five had a very diverse group of contestants with strong fan bases that really drew in the crowds. Six and three didn't have that at all. I'm a little surprised at the season two numbers early on, though, as I thought the Claymates had more clout. I know the show I went to was packed. I am pleased this tour is doing so well. It bodes well for the future of the show.

Interesting that season five's first 5 concerts were in only three different cities - all within a 150 mile radius - and they still sold out.

That was the only year I went.

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve been led to believe that the Season 6 Idol tour was the worst attendence-wise, but this suggests that the worst season is actually season 3 if the figures (and they are bad whichever way you look at it) are similar for the rest of that tour.

Season 3 was the worst season for the tour. Some of those venues must have been echo chambers. Indianapolis only had 27% capacity while Cincinatti eked out a 29%. Evansville had 32%, Pittsburg 33% and Omaha 39%. Sesason 3 did manage to have 3 sold out shows in a row, though...in Honolulu. Hawaii fans are dedicated (and they get their own time zone to vote in!!!!)

Meanwhile, Season 6's poorest showings were in Birmingham (39%), Salt Lake City (44%), Nampa (45%) and Moline (47%). So, it did outdo Season 3, but it was the first season not to have any sell-outs (according to the Pollstar numbers).

Adjusting for inflation, this season is probably the second most successful after Season 5 revenue-wise.

Please note that this is just gross revenue. We don't know how much they actually net and that is probably how Freemantle judges success. I believe the first tours didn't even bring along a band, so operating costs vary from year to year.

Thanks for the stats. I hope that the Season 7 tour continues to sell well.

Season 3 was my least favorite season until Season 6 came along. Boy, I did not like that season. It was the worst in many ways, IMO. As far as the Season 6 tour, I hated the many duets and group numbers concept. I'm still pissed that Melinda only had one solo last year. LOL.

Season 7 was good. Fans are excited again. Also they know that they will get a chance to hear their favorites sing alone. No wincing through uncomfortable duets and only two group numbers. If Wednesday nights taught us anything this year, it was that this year's Idols usually did not sound great together in group numbers. (IMO)

I like the separate mini concerts feel of Season 5 and Season 7. Now I can decide during which set to go buy tour merchandise and something to drink without missing my favorite(s).

Adjusting for inflation, this season is probably the second most successful after Season 5 revenue-wise. (Fewer tickets sold this season than Season 4, but the ticket price looks way more expensive this year.)
