Steven Tyler confirms he’ll ‘probably’ be a judge on American Idol in this video taken Saturday night at the Aerosmith party at the MGM Grand after the band’s concert in Las Vegas.

“Probably going to be a judge on American Idol,”says Steven, when asked about his post-tour plans, “I’m doing it! Whataya think?”…

Of course, he’s got to sign that contract first…

If Idol wants a Steven Tyler type, they should have just gone with the real deal: Patti Smith.

Trying to put Aerosmith and Patti Smith in the same artistic space just made my head explode, however. lol

    Hmmm

    Journey vs Aerosmith.

I choose Journey – Steve Perry needs something to do. I think I prefer “THE VOICE” to “the mouth” and luvadamlambert is right – at least “Don’t Stop Believin” has seen a resurgence in popularity. And Steve Perry is WAY better looking.

He has lots of experience and probably will be interesting and not politically correct. At this point I’m ready for a shake-up and would welcome someone like him. Hope he signs on the dotted line.

Steven says he’s going to be a judge on American Idol. He didn’t say permanent judge or “Simon’s replacement.” So, I still see the possibility of a Guest Judge during later auditions (after his tour ends.) Watch out for more names to circulate.

WOW! Thank-you guys for the funniest set of comments in a row that I have ever seen.

For the record, I can’t see myself tuning in for Steve Tyler. Not taking anything away from him as a singer/musician but he doesn’t come across as judge material.

I think that someone who has almost 40 years experience in the music business in a legendary band, who has stayed on top of the charts during most of this time, is still succesfully touring, and is known to be a terrific performer might have something to offer to AI. Also, he is open to other types of music other than rock. Though it will be a different atmosphere for him and for AI.

Maybe part of the problem last year was they didn’t have a sucessful performer on the judging panel, except for Ellen, who wasn’t in music. ANd that this is what was missing when Paula left. And that’s why they are getting sucessful performers to judge this year.

I would be glad, though if there was more rock on Idol, and i think that is the direction they are going in if they have Steven Tyler as a judge.

I’m also kind of thinking with all the rumored performers as judges if they are going to have them more like mentors than actual judges like we have now, at least for some of them. Maybe like a rotating panel of judging and mentoring or something. This kind of would fit in with what Ellen was told, that they wanted to work around her, and that things would be different this year. Not sure if this is a good idea or not, but it is just something I am wondering.

Maybe so, but could he at least wear a bag over his head so he doesn’t scare the kids and horses?
