James Durbin and Stefano Langone, both finalists from American Idol season 10, had a little reunion at Universal City Walk in Los Angeles last night.

Both are promoting music. James is touring and visiting radio stations on behalf of his album Memories of a Beautiful Disaster, while Stefano is gearing up to release his debut this fall.

Check out James rocking an Angus Young look on stage, singing the NFL anthem, “Stand Up.”

As a contrast, Stefano slows it down with an old-school R&B cover, “Me and Mrs Jones,” complete with a killer high note to finish the song. It’s a big contrast to the auto-tuned dance pop of another song Stefano performed “Have Some Fun,” where the lip syncing is super-obvious.  Stefano is going for radio relevance, so I’ll give him a pass.

I like how James kept his promise of having his act consist of a strong lead vocal and a strong lead guitar.  Dylan is going to share the spotlight but that’s a plus for James in the long run.  Even Dylan’s latest acoustic work has been really good, amazing how they’ve all improved and gel together after only a year.

Exactly. A strong lead vocal and guitarist is the foundation of every great rock band. It is great to see how much they’ve all come together as a real band. Their perfomances are so much tighter than in the beginning. I can’t wait to hear what they’ll come up with for the next album.

In one of James’ recent interviews he said Blake has given him some songs to look at – was he talking about Blake in his band or someone else?  Anyone know?

True, plus there is the respect factor, James didn’t get hired guns for his bandmates, as you know, the bands he got his guys from, “Archer” and “In This Moment” are/were just regular rock bands grinding it out like everyone else.  It appeared as if James started from square one with just a little help from his modest amount of fame, but in my mind, and I think you agree, he’s doing it the right way, in some sense by keeping expectations at realistic levels.  They’ve prepared themselves well for the next album and tour and things are only going to get better for Durbinators.

Love, Love, Love this review from last’s night’s show in Scottsdale!!
Love how they too agree the songs James wrote/co-wrote are the best on MOABD.
Love how they are also looking forward to the next album.
Love how once seeing him live, they realized how good he really is.
    (This person really got him).

It’s from Eilonwy from here, MJ’s. :D (irockhard linked it in the Headlines’ thread)

And I agree with everything you said, justmefornow: Wonderful review, Eilonwy. :worships:

Very informative but also very entertaining and funny, I laughed out loud several times (” Put the shaven-head dude with the Queensrÿche tattoo up front, and Lythgoe would have wet himself.” – “It seems to happen [stolen equipment] to a lot of bands, so either pawn shops have incredible amp selections these days, or there are start-up indie bands in Mexico that are impressively equipped.” – “Ever since Kay Bee Toys was liquidated and Toys R Us mostly vanished, truck stops are the nation’s primary source of toys. Leaving with just one stuffed white tiger demonstrates restraint.” :rotfl: )

But most of thank you for getting the essence of James.

lol. I realized that after I posted it.
Best review I’ve read in a long time, really capturing what James and his music are all about.

James, I hope you are still reading the thread b/c I’ve only got a few words to say to you:

Please get your ever-skinnier tush over here in the Philly/Atlantic City/Central Jersey area sometime soon!

I can’t wait to see the full band live.

  • justmefornow

Great write up-thats what I try and  tell anyone that hasn’t seen him live-he steps it up to another whole level ,and he’s natural performance ability  is second to none !  I also love, love, love In The Name of Love-just listened to  it -No words can describe the emotion he puts into that song-Unreal!

  • justmefornow

Can’t wait to hear a studio version of In The Name of love with the whole band rocking!
And talk about his natural performance ability, check out the video I just posted in the headlines thread of Liberate from last night’s show. The audience participation is a perfect example of his stage presence and ability to relate to the audience as well.
