Joesplace, that ever-so-accurate Idol spoiler, just added a new name to her list of rumored AI Season 8 Top 50 contestants.   His name is Brent Keith Smith, and he’s the only guy in this AI commercial (along with Alexea Lawson, Lil Rounds and Emily Wynne-Hughes).

JP thinks it’s this guy, who goes by the name Brent Keith, and after running some Google searches, I’m pretty sure it’s him.

Brent Keith, was a contestant on Nashville Star 2,   Here’s his about.com page, he had a song on the Dale soundtrack (a movie about the late race car driver, Dale Earnhardt Sr.–here’s the video)

Here’s an amateur video of a performance (“Found” recorded by Josh Gracin). And his CMT music page.   He’s already got a fan base. Heh.

Here’s Brent’s MySpace.   He took off all of his music and videos back in November right after the Hollywood round ended. He explains in a blog dated 11/22, with the title: “This is what’s going on with my page”:

I’m posting this blog just in case you’re wondering what has happened to my page in the last few days. I recently reacquired the rights to brentkeith.com after a long period of trying to do just that. As I make the decisions about what I will be putting on each site, I’ve decided to take all of my videos, songs, and pics off of my Myspace profile. I promise to send out a bulletin and a general “heads-up” when I get everything up and running again.

Meanwhile, his website is parked. It hasn’t been touched.

The snip on the AI commercial sounds more rock than country, but he does list classic rock influences on his My Space page.

This CMT article, posted in September 2007, had him going into the studio soon after.   Of course, if he’s an AI contestant, he can’t currently have a record contract.

He’s got a lot of experience under his belt, and connections in the industry, therefore, some will call him planty!

So, kids, what do you think?

ETA:Â   From a blog dated July 18:

I’ve got something that I’m working on right now that I can’t tell you guys about just yet. I can tell you that if it works out positively, it will be AMAZING! I’ll keep you posted and let you know the outcome A.S.A.P.

He sounds very country to me. He’s cute. There was an interesting comment under that “found” video saying this:

I just found out that this song is going to be on Josh Gracin’s new Cd that comes out on April 1st!! I’m so excited to see this song on there!!

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I looked it up…Brent Keith didn’t write it. I wonder if Brent was planning on recording it at some point?

  • JOJOSIE

I’ve heard folks say we’ve never had a male country singer win, well this may be the year. He’s a cute guy with lots of stage experience. I can’t wait for February when the real singing contest starts.

  • CathyMK

So, Simon was quoted in USA Today this morning saying this:

“Too many people on the show were like professional reality-show contestants à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ which made it a little frustrating,”

And this afternoon we get a spoiler about about another contestant with reality show experience. Um, yeah. I sooo believe that things will be different this year. :tongue_wink_ee:

  • Tony

This show doesn’t care how many times it jumps the shark. American Idol should be retitled:

“American Idol: Your Official 2nd Chance”

  • bigmjfan

This might just be the male country star that they have been looking for. I loved him on nashville star. At one point I thought he had an album coming out on a major label after the soundtrack but it must of not went through. He is a cutie. He recently got married to I think.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

I actually loved what I heard from him on the commercial. Can’t wait to hear/see ( :wink_ee:) more.

Hello there!!! for now IÂ ´m giving him the fresh meat category… :wink_ee:

  • CathyMK

for now I ´m giving him the fresh meat categoryà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

:jittery_tb:LOL He is cute, isn’t he!

  • bigjr6633

    à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idol: Your Official 2nd Chanceà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

That really should be the new title of this show. Undiscovered talent just doesn’t exist anymore well at least not on this show. Hell, this show should really be called American Idol: The Plants.

  • bigmjfan

From what I saw of him on NS he isnt a traditional country sound. He would be the like more of a pop/rock country sound. LIke it was said above. The thing that will probably hold him back will be the themes. How much country will he beable to do.

This guy is already pretty polished and he isnt a kid. He is a mature man. lol

  • tinawina

Not my type looks wise. Cant wait to hear his voice though.

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=587900002&ref=name cruzceleste

He recently got married to I think.

    sads….

This guy is already pretty polished and he isnt a kid. He is a mature man. lol

Yeah, He is actually older than me… so I can look him :wink_ee:

  • bigmjfan

MJ can you tell me has he decided to go by his real name now. Because that is defintly the Brent Kieth that was on NS

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

LOL. I could have at least got his name right in my post. Fixed it.

    I’m such a spazz cadet.

MJ can you tell me has he decided to go by his real name now. Because that is defintly the Brent Kieth that was on NS

Hm. I don’t know. Joesplace found him, maybe she knows more.

  • bigmjfan

lol. ha ha. I was just confused because I knew that was the guy on NS because I have seen him on cmt and they were talking about ns. He looks alot different now. He had real light almost platnum blonde hair on ns and it was long.

  • lefty

I would enjoy a really good male country singer this year. Yeah, I could get into that. That having been said, I’d love it more if he were previously undiscovered.

  • http://idolstages.com Connie D.

For me, he doesn’t sing as well as Josh Gracin or Bucky Covington… from what I’ve seen so far.

  • bigmjfan

He doesnt sing as good as josh. But Josh has a big voice and is rich and deep. But he sings better then bucky in my opinion from what I remember of nashville star. There is a video for the song from the dale cd.

  • cookcricket

Hmmm, he is pretty cute isn’t he? And he’s from Ohio! Whoot! Same with JP Ryan…

I’m looking forward to seeing more of this guy. I like that he’s pretty accomplished on the gueetar. When I saw this posted it did run through my mind that they didn’t have a country male winner yet, hadn’t heard that someone else had said it before. It also seems that he has some crossover potential.

I am a little disappointed that he already has a fan base and has done some things…I guess as long as he’s not currently signed…IDK.

  • hypertwink

If they’re going for male country this year, then Matt (the one who did The Lost Idol or some such) must be banging his head against a wall somewhere. Because that guy was good; I liked him.

  • whosefanryou

Does anyone know how far he made it on Nashville Star? Just curious.

I actually have a hard time believing all these Nashville Star folks are going to get very far because I believe Idol sees itself as a far-superior talent show and wouldn’t want a Nashville Star vote-off making it too far on American Idol.

  • Tony

LOL. A comment by snot rag at VFWT:

Seriously, AI8 is looking like the recycling bin of reality shows

  • Michelle

Blah, I hope they’re not going for a country Idol this season.

  • bigjr6633

I just read up on this guy, it really is ridiculous that someone with as much experience as he has is on this show. He has videos out, has been on Nashville Star, his publishing company does work with Carrie Underwood. What the hell does he need this show for? I’m so sick of Idol with all these damn plants.

Honestly I really don’t care how good he sounds I hope he doesn’t make it. That maybe wrong to say, but he’s already established enough to make it the industry without the help of AI so what is he on the show for, oh yeah to just get exposure.

  • bigmjfan

I think he finished like 4th or 5th on nashville star season 2 if I remember right

  • anijsch

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m so sick of Idol with all these damn plants.

I hope they put the not so experience contestant in one in group, so that there is a chance to get in the top 10.

  • jpfan

The show loses something when they recycle people. I’d rather have “less talent” and more true amateurs. I’m just not interested in more Syesha, Carly, KLC, Michael Johns etc. type of contestants. And usually if they haven’t made it, there’s a reason. Nothing against this guy who seems talented but plants hurt the show’s magic (for me).

  • moonwatcher_rn

Brent is a great guy! We in his hometown love him! He’s working hard for his big break, and I admire his tenacity! Some complain that he’s had his chance and he should step down! NO WAY! Do you think all the star musicians and actors in the world got where they are today after one maybe two chances? Again, NO WAY! Brent continues to strive to be the best!

Brent’s moved to Nashville, but I’ve had the chance to hear him up close and personal when he returned home and performed at a scholarship benefit concert, and what fun to watch him in our BHS alumni soccer game! He even returned home to let us share in the excitment when he “pop the big question!” to his then girlfriend, now wife. He remembers his roots as he continues to pursue his dream! We in Blanchester can’t wait for him to take the stage!

    Go BRENT!!

  • limecoke

I remember him from NS and liked his voice but have to wonder what he’s doing on AI. Having all the seasoned pros last season annoyed me which is why I was drawn to Jason Castro. AI keeps trying to convince us they’re looking for great undiscovered talent but that was a joke last season. Looks like it’ll be the same for season eight. I hope they prove me wrong.

  • gwjh598

He’s my cousin-in-law’s cousin. He has tried and he placed 6th on NS. He has not had a record deal, though yes he has recorded the song for the Dale movie. I think he deserves his chance just like anyone else. The name he is using in AI is his real name (Brent Keith Smith). Let him have the chance anyone else has. Not all the AI winners went on to be stars either. But does that mean they never deserve another chance to make a record?
Plus he’s easy on the eyes (and so is most of his family – they’ve got that smith smile and sparkling eyes).

  • carbro101

I agree with moonwatcher_m and gwjh598………Brent is a great talent, not only a great singer but also a great songwriter and guitar player. I followed him on Nashville Star and was a great fan of his. We became email friends and I went to some of his shows at bars in the Nashville area. He is a very nice /genuine person and deserves this break. Nashville Star didn’t give him a fraction of the exposure that American Idol will. I have the videos from all the Nashville Star shows the season he was on and he was the 6th contestant voted off, he finished 5th in the competition. I think this is a great opportunity for him to finally get the exposure he deserves because he has worked very hard for it.
