Nigel Lythgoe announced on twitter  that the new season of  So You Think You Can Dance  will have two winners: A  Top Guy and Top Girl. Each finalist will have a number. Fans will vote for individuals (instead of pairs).

Nigel explains in an interview with E News:

“We are down to one two-hour show each week. We are changing it up,” Nigel tells us of So You Think You Can Dance‘s ninth season. “We are going to have two winners this year, one male and one female. It’s something that we wonder why we didn’t do it in the first place. We should have done it years ago!”

So what was the reasoning behind the big change? “Each one brings something different to the table. We can split up the numbers and have America vote for their favorite guy and girl, so why not do it?” Nigel explains.

SYTYCD begins it’s 9th season on Thursday May 24 at 8 pm and moves into it’s regular time slot on Wednesday May 3oth.  There will be no separate results show on Thursday. Expect a jammed packed two hours of dance and eliminations during it’s weekly 2 hour episode.

hcpoirot, that’s a terrific list!  I am wondering if any of the dancers will be appearing in “Rock of Ages”?  I know they have appeared on awards shows.
Now, there is a special run in Las Vegas where we can watch both pros and former contestants.  Dmitry and Lacey are there now.

I love this show, so if this new change makes for a better show – I am all for it!  I can’t wait until it starts!
