So You Think You Can Dance – Top 6 Performance – Recap

This is a great show!! And I have a new all time favorite routine… Joahua/Katee’s All by Myself was absolutely fantastic…:))
And well… Mark/Courtney’s Broadway was pretty darn good too….

I am starting to worry for Twitch. He wasn’t so great at the Mambo…and Mark has been really, really good at both of his routines. I’m pretty sure that Joshua will be in the finals regardless, so it is between Mark and Twitch. I love them both! I do!!! But Twitch has been my guy since LAST YEAR…

Mark and Courtney’s jazz routine was easily my fave routine this season. Wow! Smokin’!!

I’ve never been a Courtney fan or that much of a fan of Mark, but I love them tonight. They’re just wonderful in their routines. Best partnership either of them has had, I think, and maybe that’s the difference? Now I don’t want either of them to get voted off! Ack! Nobody should go. Nigel should declare a 6-person-tie for winner.

Somehow, I missed that it was going to be his song in all the spoilers! Completely took me by surprise, but what a wonderful surprise that was.

Also, loved the string/hip hop arrangement of Janet Jackson’s Control that they used for the hip hop piece. Awesome.

Katee and Joshua are amazing together…they are quite possibly my favorite couple EVER from this show. Love them!

Sonya Tayeh needs to become a regular choreographer on this show. I have loved everything she has choreographed.

Spritely, I can totally relate to this. Every time David comes on the radio, or I click to view any of his performance vidoes, I go into a trance. I’m mesmerized by his voice. I hang on to his every word. I can’t get enough of him!

Twitch’s passion grabbed me this year. I will miss his spirit.

I think poor Twitch has seen his last day on the show and Courtney is going with him. They are fab dancers but weaker than the rest.

Twitch has been my favorite since last year too, but I am also kinda starting to think he’ll be cut tomorrow…I haven’t had a busy signal either! I love his passion and personality, but Joshua is unstoppable and I think Mark’s amazing chemistry with Courtney will get him the other guy spot in the finale. Don’t get me wrong, all three guys are amazing and Josh and Mark totally deserve to be in the finale, but if Twitch leaves tomorrow I’ll be bawling my eyes out!

All 3 girls were amazing as well, but I think it might be Courtney leaving….I’m not as attached to any of the girls as I am to Twitch, but I wish we could keep all three anyway, haha. I’m all for the six way tie idea….

Anyway, voting for Mark or trying to. I’m actually getting busy signals tonight. I do love Twitch but I want the top 4 to be quality dances and IMO, Twitch is never really that good outside of hip-hop. He’s had plenty of hip hop to have good routines on the tour.

Well, I can’t get through for Twitch…I’m thinking that it all varies, depending on the area where you live and things like that, much like what we saw with AI.

The irony to me about the Josh/Katee partnership is that I think she brings out the best in him–he is crisper with her than he has been with the other girls, imo–but then he overshadows her because he’s so mesmerizing.

I love Twitch, but I also think he’s a goner. Before tonight I would have said that Courtney would be a goner, but after her performances, I’m not so sure. And I thought she had the best solo of the night.

Wow, that was a really strong show. I thought for sure Mark and Courtney’s waltz would be my favorite dance of the night, but I loved their jazz piece, too. Honestly, I loved almost everything.

If I’m nitpicking, Twitch and Chelsie were the weakest for me tonight, which makes me sad because I love both of them. Chelsie has been my favorite girl all season, and Twitch is right up there at the top of the list for me, too. But she was so much better than he was in the mambo, and he was so much better than she was in the hip hop, and that made them go to the bottom for me tonight by a teeny-tiny margin. Everybody was so good, I suppose it doesn’t really matter who was the top or the bottom.

In terms of the solos, I also thought Chelsie’s solo was the weakest of the girls, but Joshua’s was the weakest of the boys’ solos. Joshua seemed too tippy-toey in the paso to me, too. But it was kind of an s&m paso, wasn’t it? Very hot.

I’ve already rewatched the waltz, and I’m going to watch the jazz, contemp and hip hop pieces again as soon as I finish this. I’ll just have to mute Celine, cause I can’t stand her.

But I thought that was a pretty dynamite show. Wtg, everybody!

I’ve reluctantly accepted Twitch’s departure tomorrow night. I keep telling myself I will see him next week in the finale group dances and, if I’m lucky, in the judges’ encore requests.

MJ I love you for putting up the videos every week, but the RedLasso situation sure is a bummer.

Please tell me that Abdul isn’t in the running to be a choreographer next season…. please….

Not that it needed to be mentioned, but after all the shirtless talk about Will and Twitch, I’m surprised they didn’t mention Joshua not wearing the shirt tonight, lol. Anyway, what a superb bunch of dancers! This is my first season watching this and maybe they are always this good at the end, but I’ve just been in awe watching this final 6. I can see Twitch going after tonight and I can see Joshua winning the whole thing. The other four are excellent dancers, but I can’t seem to pick a favorite from them. Great show! I continue enjoying the heck out of it!

Sufice it to say, I’m even more mad about Mark — loved him with Courtney tonight — both routines were wonderful. The fact that I love Cook’s song didn’t hurt — the waltz was so so romantic. Love love love.

I would like to make an observation that I don’t think any of the music is chosen by the choreographers or the dancers. It seems like it’s a lot of the same artists all the time, and a lot of them have made appearances on the show or on AI or are previous AI contestants, etc. Just my opinion.

i love how mark’s truly growing, especially in the last 2 episodes. there was a marked (pun intended) difference in his performances after he ended up in the bottom two 3 weeks ago.

So, vote for mark! he’s last on dialidol’s predictions.

Chelsie and Mark are going to keep me busy for the next two hours.

They were all really good tonight. Didn’t like Twitch so much in the latin dance but other than that, I think everybody was awesome. I voted for my favorite guy and my favorite girl. Couldn’t hardly get through for Joshua but couldn’t hardly not get through for Katee. Mark and Courtney danced well but as much as I love Mark is about as much as I dislike Courtney. I still can’t get over how mean she was to Gev, always teasing him for his height or his hair and then as soon as she gets a new partner, hanging all over them and saying how strong/big/masculine they are. I guess I just don’t like her.

Ok – I will throw some votes to Mark. How come I did not really notice until tonight how completely adorable he is. Where is the dancing Sanjaya remarkerer?? He is definitely NOT that. Oh but Joshua you have stayed number 1 in my book throughout. I am voting for Courtney and Mark and keep getting thru but not when I try Joshua. I put some in for Twitch too – someone said let all the guys win, I agree – I like them all. Courtney wasnt mean to Gev at all, she teased him more like a little brother, he is just a cute little guy and not as “manly” in the same sense as the rest but even more adorable than them because of that I thought, I cant wait to see Gev back next week and hope they pick a Courtney Gev piece so all can be reminded of how good they were together. She was just sweet and danced so well with all the guys. Who put up those vids of her and Gev last week? The judges were just raving about the perfect chemistry between Gev and Courtney – how good they were together?. Oh well, I just hope Joshua wins, in the end it comes down to just one anyways.

Funny thing happened when I watched Courtney and Mark’s waltz. The romantic mood was set, David beautiful voice comes over my headset, Mark & Courtney are floating across the floor, then I noticed where they chopped the song. Next thing I knew I was thinking about the song & David’s success, his winning moment, hoping his cd will make it big, then the dance was over. I was supposed to be watching the dancers??? What dancers??? OOoppss.

Oh well. I tried I really did.

I’ll agree that Twitch & Courtney are going home this week. But, I shall respectfully disagree that they are weaker than the other four. I think all of the top 6 are fabulous dancers, just loaded with talent. And, I think their talents are varied enough that it is extremely difficult to quantify who is more deserving of a top 4 spot over anyone else.

But, if I were an ESPN dancing analyst (LOL) I would probably sum it up like this: I think Courtney and Katee have relatively equal skills in the contemporary department. Mostly because while I believe that Katee’s extensions and lines are better than Courtney’s, I think Courtney has a stronger center and a better ability to touch the audience.

Chelsie is indeed a powerhouse. And, comparing ballroom to contemp is apples and oranges. But, on this show, in this format, she has been the best partner dancer of them all. Not a chance in hell that Katee or Courtney get in and out of those ridiculously difficult lifts better than Chelsie does. Outside of his strength, the only reason Joshua was able to do those lifts last week in the disco was because Chelsie was his partner. In dance, lifts cannot be done in a vacuum. The liftee must be able to hold her own weight, keep in mind her posture, and (excuse the analogy) land her dismount. This is an incredible skill – and I do not know how to measure it against contemporary skills (I mean that for real, I do not know how to quantify this – so who is stronger is beyond my comprehension).

When I compare the males – I feel much the same. Each of the three has his own unique ability, and I have no proper yardstick by which to measure them. If I were a choreographer, I would hire any of them for the right job. If I made videos in LA – I wouldn’t even consider filming one at this point without hiring either Joshua or Twitch. And, if I was choreographing on Broadway, looking for a guy who could really inhabit the character, Mark would be tops on my list.

So, in essence, I just do not believe at this point that one is better than the other, or one deserves something more than someone else. They are all just so talented, and so accomplished in their own rights that if I were the kind of person who chose these kinds of things – I’d be proud to have any of them on my team.

That said of course – please console me tomorrow night when they send my pumpkin pie home.

Loved Mark, Twitch and Joshua. Probably liked Mark the most. Courtney was my favorite girl. Her solos are always so much better than the other girls. Katee’s solos are all the same and she always finishes with that move where she drags her arm and hand in front of her face. It drives me crazy. She’s a good dancer but really needs a choreographer.
The only 2 left that have outstanding solos are Twitch and Joshua – if that counts for anything.
I’m going to hate to see any of the guys go. I want an all male finale!!

I want an all male finale too! I actually wanted a top 6 male finale with Will and Gev in there. The girls are good but the guys are incredible. That’s why I’m voting mostly for the guys. My guess is that the voting has been top heavy for the guys for most of this season – they’ve been amazing! I really hate to see any of them leave at this point. Very different from past seasons where most of us had definite favorites. Just shows how strong and compelling the dancers have been this season.

i think next season should get rid of the whole having to keep guys and girls even after the top 10.

or maybe i just want mark and the three girls to make it through. they also could’ve brought back thayne instead of bringing back comfort to last longer than kherrington.

Wow, what an amazing show. Loved almost all the dances. The Josh/Katee contemporary was beautiful-could have done with the original version of the song-ixnay on celine dion. They play her every single week. I liked her a long time ago when she wasn’t well known and her cd’s were in her native french. Then overexposure happened and now I just can’t stomach her. Saw her a few times on Larry King and she is really a strange cookie.

Loved Cat putting on Twitch’s glasses and gold teeth bling. That was hysterical. I must say that I didn’t see things the same way as the person who posted some of the spoilers. I liked Twitch and Chelsie’s hip hop and didn’t see Nap bitchface-but then i’m not used to scrutinizing his face.
Sonya is intense! I have to watch that dance a few more times to tell how I felt about it. Courtney and Mark did amazingly well tonight. This was the first time they were partnered???? I like all of them and it will be so hard to let 2 more go. I’m picking Joshua for the win. And Adam is an amazing judge. I like him right up there with Lil C. Wish Idol had judges like these that actually give advice and constructive critiques. The last 2 weeks have been amazing. So glad I watched the video MJ posted when the season began. Haven’t missed a week since.

As SpenserJ said upthread (and I didn’t think it was too long, I think it was thoughtful), each one has strengths and it’s really hard to compare apples to oranges.

I really wish we didn’t have to pick just one. This is the year I wish we picked one girl and one guy. I really don’t think I can pick just one. It makes it particularly hard when one or two couple are magic like Joshua and Katee. How do you choose when they make each other look so good?

Katee and Joshua’s two performances were absolutely brilliant!! Joshua is the dancer to beat..CANNOT believe he has never had formal training. He is truly gifted.

Katee is a better dancer than Courtney, but Courtney had the best solo of the 6 with the best music.

I find Chelsie adorable and she throws herself into whatever she is given. Loved her hip hop with Twitch- totally entertaining and well-performed.

Rushed back and I tuned in last night all excited to see it live and it was a repeat of the results show!! WTF!! What backwater was I visiting? I was flaggin with jetlag and fell asleep. It was an amazing show! The performances that blew me away were both of Mark & Courtney’s and Katee & Joshua’s comtemporary. M & C had such great chemistry…I was pleasantly surprised. Their waltz was so romantic and just flowed across the stage. I loved it more than the judges…Nigel and Mary at least. Their praise was somewhat muted compared to the other routines. M & C’s jazz routine was crazy and intense, but so cool! K & J’s contemporary was really beautiful to watch. I felt that Joshua totally overshadowed Katee in the Paso Doble, not cuz he was shirtless (well, just a little), but the way it was choreographed. I know he’s supposed to be the matador, but I would’ve liked to see Katee incorporated more into the routine. I agree Courtney’s solo was the best of the night, although I liked Mark’s too. I like Twitch & Chelsie too, but their routines were the least enjoyable for me, especially their hip-hop. Didn’t do anything for me. They’re all great dancers…ahhh! So hard to choose!

Shankman’s cool. They should totally have him as a judge more often along with Lil’ C. No more Toni B. though, please.

Layla, I couldn’t agree more. His solo looked like an amateurish, disjointed strip tease to me. Even though I will most likely lose them all, I’m putting my points on him tonight. I just can’t put them on Twitch. Well, I can…..I won’t. I’m so far down on the list, it doesn’t make any difference in the greater scheme of things anyway.

Mark and Cookie! Woo! Mark is SO versatile. He completely transformed himself from the romance of the waltz to the freakiness of the jazz. I hope he made the finale, because I feel like he earned it the hard way- with the least amount of support from the judges, and no free passes on messing up outside of his specialty or watered down choreography. *coughTwitchcough* And I much appreciate his solo. LOVE Sonya- best choreography since Wade Robson left, and best this season for me.

Josh was awesome in the paso- definitely redeemed himself for the overpraised disco last week.

I kind of want a Mark/Chelsie/Josh/Courtney final four, but that will never happen.

I was just set on Joshua back then but I dont remember a whole lot of bad reviews on Mark until he was partnered with Comfort and Kherington

I’d actually say that Josh’s solos have been boring. It’s the same chest-popping and body wave thing that he does every week. Then he adds a split jump and a simple bboy pose. For me, Mark’s solos are a lot more diverse and interesting. JMHO.

Yes, Yes, and Yes. As much as I love Twitch, I’m not sure he deserves a place in the Final 4. His VW, his contemporaries, and even some of his hip hops have been pretty easy stuff. I would say his only difficult choreography was his Paso maybe (which he didn’t do too well in) and his hip hop with Comfort (which is the only dance I enjoyed him in this entire season). So I do believe that Josh and Mark earned a spot in the finals over him. Again just my 2 cents.

Okay, I’ve made up my mind. Josh/Katee/Mark/Courtney. For a variety of reasons. Josh FTW. (As if what I think matters) LOL.

I agree with your final four: Josh/Katee/Mark/Courtney. I was torn as to which two girls, between Katee and Chelsie, but I’ve decided on Katee, because I’d like to see Mark dance with her, since they haven’t yet. But, I much prefer Mark FTW, for two reasons: I think he a better, more versatile, and magical dancer; and he hasn’t had the support of the judges ever since they realized how popular he’d become, threatening their desired outcome.

However, I don’t kid myself to think that’s ever going to happen (Mark winning), and I think Josh is great.

I may be of an unpopular opinion, but I am tired of watching Twitch do hip hop/krump, Katee do contemporary/Broadway, and Chelsie do ballroom. Every week since the split, all three of those dancers have had a dance in or similar to their own style. I think at this stage of the game, they need to be a bit more challenged than they are.

Joshua, on the other hand, has only had hip-hop once, and it was the very first week. I think Joshua is an awesome dancer, but he has had more opportunities to show diversity than a lot of the other dancers. I kind of think he’s been given the variety he has because he’s the only one who can handle it.

As far as solos go, the only person’s I really enjoy is Courtney. I think she dances with such power, yet such elegance at the same time. I usually like Mark’s, too. I never have liked the ballroom dancers’ solos, but I can’t really fault them, either. I’m sure it’s hard to dance ballroom alone.

All that said, it’s not the dancers’ fault what styles they are given. It’s the quest for “America’s Favorite Dancer,” and my favorites are Mark and Chelsie. So, I spent an hour and a half voting for the two of them last night. I didn’t want to split my votes 3 ways, but if I was going to vote for a 3rd person, it would have been Courtney.

ETAA: How fortunate that “Time of My Life” is in 3/4 time so it could be used for a beautiful waltz. If that’s not fate, I don’t know what is.

I spent a little over an hour voting for Mark. I would have spent the whole two hours, but we don’t have a landline, so the calls aren’t free for me. Each call counts as a minute toward our limit. (Thank goodness for rollover minutes!) I wish they’d have a non-toll free number to call, since long distance calls are free after 9:00.

I have no idea how many calls I got in, but I’m guessing (hoping?) it was around 300. (That’s 5 hours of calls, in AT&T/Cingular cell minute-speak.)

Anyway, WOW. I thought every freaking routine was just damn, damn, DAMN fantastic! I did think Twitch could’ve been better in that mambo, but otherwise I just effing loved everything. The Markney jazz (go Sonya!) and the Manatee paso doble were my favorites, however. HOT.

I think it’s almost inevitable that Courtney’s going to go tonight (sob), but it still seems to me like a toss-up between Mark and Twitch. I’ll be sad with either going, but I’d love to see Mark again next week…

kerfuffle – wait, calling the number for SYTYCD and Idol counts against minutes even though it’s after 9pm? I didn’t know that, then I again I mostly texted votes for Idol and didn’t vote much for SYTYCD.

Anyways, on topic. I thought last night’s show was great all around. I loved the move where Josh caught Katee in the middle of a leap. That was insane.

I think Twitch is going home for the guys. For the girls it’s a tough call. I think Chelsie will stay though. I’d be happy with any of them though and will be sad for whoever goes home.

Yes, according to AT&T, every “toll-free” call is charged like regular phone calls, with a minimum of one minute. If you make a connection (to hear “Thank you for voting, blah, blah, blah …”) and then hang up, it counts as a one-minute call. So if you get in six calls in a minute, that one minute will be charged as six minutes. I read somewhere that someone else said they checked and were told if you are connected for less than like 10 seconds, the call didn’t register at all. I don’t think that’s true though, because during “voting season” (AI & SYTYCD), my cell phone bills are pages longer than usual, listing each less-than-ten-second call separately. You might want to check with your provider (or maybe plans vary, too) though, to be sure.

Dialidol has Chelsie and Mark as the lowest busy signals. Hmmmm.

I know Judy, but I have zero confidence in them for SYTYCD. (Check previous weeks’ results.) The only time they said they were absolutely sure of who was going home, they said Comfort – she was in “red”. That was one of the weeks she didn’t go home.

Their AI results have been impeccable, though. I think it just boils down to the sheer volume of calls for AI vs. SYTYCD. It’s kind of hard to tell anything from busy signals when you’re really getting so few. It also matters, apparently, where you’re calling from. I got zero busy signals in over an hour of voting for Mark – though I did get a couple of “Network Busy” messages, whatever that means – while others here last night were reported difficulties getting through to vote for him.

I have to say, I LOVE Katee in her routines but I find her solos to be boring. I feel like all she does is run all over the stage with little dance involved. She and Chelsie seem to just do the same thing over and over again. But I enjoy Courtney’s solos, she’s always emotionally involved and moving (other than running). I’d rather see her stay than Chelsie. I LOVE Twitch’s solos. I think if he stays tonight it’ll be the only thing that saved him. Unfortunately I am going where there’s no TV and no internet, so I’ll have to find out Sunday night or Monday.
My top 4 of choice would be Josh/Twitch/Katee/Courtney (duh). Mark has definitely stepped it up lately though…..

OMFG, what an amazing show !! I, too, missed the airing of the show, Thank the good MJ for video, This was probably the best show I have seen in all the seasons. And, I have seen every show!!

I agree with most other posters, sadly, it’s time for Twitch to go. I am glad I got to know ya Twitch, you’re a helluva character, and a pretty good dancer, but the other two gents are simply in a different league. As far as the ladies, yeahhhh, I got nothin. No idea, havent a clue, in the dark, etc, etc. I hope to see Katee and Courtney, but I’d be OK with Katee and Chelsie.

Regardless, It’s gonna be a bittersweet night and I will be in chat to console and comiserate with the broken and downtrodden. And yeah, Adam is great , and WTF was Pauler doing sober, did they tape at 8 a.m. ?

About the Chelsie solos-yes she mostly does the same thing but she is a partner dancer so what else could she do? I understand that and that is probably what she is comfortable with but she has done a lot of dancing this season and maybe could incorporate some leaps into her solos. She is incredibly talented and it would be awesome if she threw in something unexpected.
