So You Think You Can Dance Top 10 Spoiler Update

Evan is doing the WALTZ?! Oh why oh why. No Broadway, no jazz, no contemporary? This could be the end for Evan. Sadness.

sue…Evan’s already had all of those styles. He hasn’t had a traditional ballroom dance yet. It was coming sooner or later! I was actually kind of hoping that he would get a waltz this week. I think Kayla’s a great partner for that type of dance as well. I feel good about this one.

The one I’m really looking forward to is Ade’s hip hop. Maybe he’ll finally get to dance and not be a human forklift?

I think the people in trouble are Melissa and Brandon. The Broadway routines this year have been SUCKY. I haven’t liked any of them yet. We’ll see what happens.

Sorry…can’t imagine Kupono being able to pull off a Paso. Maybe he’ll prove me wrong.

Oh, okay, thanks. I guess I was thinking about last week’s rumba and going, Ew. I was shocked he wasn’t in the bottom three. And I agree re: Melissa and Brandon. I hope they (well, really Brandon; am on the fence about Melissa) smash it. I think about Katee and Josh last year and how well they did with Broadway (Don’t Rock the Boat or whatever it was called) and wish others could do as well.

I’m excited about Janette/Ade…Janette is my favorite girl and Ade is my favorite guy. I really like Melissa and Brandon as well, so I’m happy w/ that partnership as well.

I really preferred the original spoiler match up. Jeanette with Ade. Could be good. Kayla and Evan. Waltz could be great but it usually is a dance that is not too popular. I think Evan can pull it off because some aspects of Broadway dance can translate well into the Waltz. Brandon and Melissa will be great I am sure. Jason and Jeannie could be good or bad depending on the choreography and how they dance it. It seems they are really putting it to Randi and Kupono. I can’t see either of them having the chemistry with each other to pull it off. But surprises do happen!

This sucks for Melissa and Brandon. Tyce’s Broadway numbers are awful.

Paso for Kupono? hmmm, not sure how he can pull that off…almost a toss up btw him and evan as far as who might suck the most this week. im ready for randi to go home…the weakest of the girls by far. and maybe my dream will come true and she’ll take Pono with her. yeahhh! (happy dance)

I hope it’s good. I hope Nappytabs ups their game a little. I’d hate to see two such great dancers do one of those lackluster hip hops. I know Nappytabs has it in them to choreograph some fun stuff, so I’m optimistic.

So, best pairs? Janette and Ade & Melissa and Brandon, these are going to be the top 4 for sure, or they switch partners every week from now on? I haven’t really seen this show ’till this season.

Randi and Kupono are in danger if this spoiler is true, I also think they’re the weakest couple. And isn’t Kayla too tall for Evan??

I agree with the people who said there has been no indication that Kupono can pull off a Paso. He LOOKS like the type of person who should be able to pull that off but looks can be deceiving.

As far as Kayla being too tall for Evan…I think she or Janette would be fine with him. Jeanine and Melissa are probably too tall.

No one expected Rhys to be able to do the paso, that’s why I’m hoping that Kupono will prove me wrong and pull it off. BTW Jason Gilkison is too awesome for words!

And, if you’ve watched DWTS at all, then you’ve seen this dance a lot. It’s the one made to look like a Spanish bull fight.

I think Janette and Ade have the capability to give the best hip-hop number of the season so far (..though that’s not really saying much) as long as the choreography can deliver. Hopefully NappyTabs can come up with something as entertaining as their group numbers.

I’m kind of nervous about Jeanine and Jason though, not because of Travis (SO excited to see his choreography!! He’s definitely my favorite out of all the seasons), but I’m worried Jason won’t have any chemistry with Jeanine either. Hopefully that won’t be the case..

Karla & Evan, meh not excited about them doing the waltz. Same for Melissa & Brandon having to do Tyce’s choreography, though I’m sure they’ll perform it well. And I think there’s a chance Randi & Kupono could actually do really well, especially since the expectations of the two of them doing a good paso doble are pretty low..

I am seriously more excited about Travis choreographing than any of the current dancers. Definitely my all-time favorite…I hope Jeanine and Jason do him justice!

Kayla & Evan – Waltz – the Waltz is one of the worst dances for a man who is shorter than his partner. Not only is he shorter, but Kayla will be wearing big heels. Also, due to the rise and fall a man tends to look a little shorter by comparison.

Janette & Ade – Hip Hop by Napoleon & Tabitha – I think Janette is the strongest girl. She gets Hip Hop for the 2nd week in a row. She did pretty well with Brandon (strongest guy?) and could do well. I think this will be strong for Ade, too.

Jeanine & Jason – Contemporary by Travis Wall – This is both of their native dances, so you would think they could do quite well. I think they are among the least favorite, although I think Jason is very under-appreciated by the judges. Jeanine really disappointed me for the first 3 weeks, but came on strong the last two weeks.

Melissa & Brandon – Broadway by Tyce DiOrio – Broadway is a very tough genre. Can Melissa act? She did well in the Romeo & Juliette Pas de deux, but this style is very different. I think Brandon is very sensitive, but is the strongest guy for me and will be fine. Melissa has danced very well (2nd best for me), but she is old like the crypt keeper (just kidding – 29 is not old by most professions).

Randi & Kupono – Paso Doble – This is a manly, latin dance. Many people (including Mia Michaels) despise this dance as it is very misogynistic. I kind of like it as a change of pace; it is different than some of the other dances. I think Randi may be OK, but is she popular enough to be safe on her own? Kapuono is the least manly of the male dancers (of the Top 20, including the girls) for me. Watch his strut as he comes out at the beginning – he really does shake his hips more than most of the girls. This fluidity works well for him in Contemporary/Jazz (he has danced this 3 of 6 times). However, in Broadway or certain Ballroom numbers, this may not work well for him. On the other hand, Paso Doble is heavily invested in acting and Kapuono can play a role quite well, at times. Tough guy from West Side story? Not so much…

All but Jeanine and Jason are dancing outside of their strengths. Jeanine and Jason may be the two who are least favored (by the judges and/or fans). It should be interesting.

Kayla and Evan? Ack. Maybe she’ll dance without shoes again and maybe it won’t be so bad, Evan might surprise me.
I’m glad Jeanine is getting the Travis routine, this is the one i’m most looking forward to Wednesday.

I just realized all they did was switch Ade’s and Brandon’s partners. Very similar dancers so not much of a change. Pimping.

Melissa should do great with Broadway. Most ballet companies do pieces by Jerome Robbins so if the choreography is decent she should have a feel for it. Jason gets contemporary so he must do very well as this is his genre. If he doesn’t I think he will be gone.

The choreographer for the Broadway this week is Tyce. He’s always awful.

I wish Evan had gotten fox trot instead of waltz for his ballroom smooth dance. Bummer. He could’ve done beautifully with a Fred and Ginger type fox trot to “Cheek to Cheek” or something.

I would’ve mixed up the partners a bit more, and gone with Jeanine/Evan, Janette/Jason, Melissa/Pono, Randi/Brandon and Kayla/Ade. It would’ve put the tall people with the tall people as well as blended better, I think. Then Jeanine and Evan could’ve had the fox trot, Janette/Jason could’ve gone Broadway, Melissa/Pono hip hop, Randi/Brandon could have the contemp, and Kayla/Ade the paso doble.

If only they let me do it!

One of my friends just loves Jason plus Jeanins is her favorite girl and Travis is her all time favorite SYTYCD dancer. So she’s going to be positively GIDDY at that routine. I hope they kill it. I wonder if the second half of the season, for however long Jason lasts, is going to follow a “redemption” arc of sorts. I think he’s got the most untapped potential of all of them, so I hope so.

I’m curious about this hip hop for Janette and Ade. NapTab’s “specialty” is lyrical, but Ade has hip hop experience, so he could handle a harder hitting one. Hopefully they draw from the same creative well that they did for their group numbers this year bc those were great.

Sounds like it *could* be a good show. I’m really waiting to find out spoilers from the taping.

I love Evan. But I am not feeling good about this week. Kayla is at least 3 feet taller and, waltz = kiss of death for nearly all who perform it. I see nothing unfair in the assignment of style – several other couples have already had this style. Just sayin’ – it doesn’t sound promising. Also, I’m so not a Kayla fan. (Apologies to those who are.)

On the other hand….

if they nail it, Evan could — COULD — be a hero. You never know! (Actually, I do know: if they nail it, Kayla will get the praise.)

As a couple, Randi and Kupono have the other short straw. Paso is killer. Neither have the “kliller” instinct. This could also be a disaster.

Jeanine and Jason get to dance in their style. I think Jeanine has had some of the worst draws of style this season, and in Philip, a relatively weak partner (in that he was completely untrained). She’s earned a moment to shine, I think.

Jeanette and Ade could explode! Could be all kinds of awesome. Ditto Melissa and Brandon – though the choreography will be the critical point for them.

Is there only one performance per pair this week? Then the group numbers? I loved the double performances last week (yea, more dancing – less filler!) But I’m nervous if this week is really 2 hrs – how are they going to fill all that extra time?

Pretty sure this was with Will, the same week they did the Pas de deux? Katee was fabulous in everything she did though.

I think that the short end of the stick definitely came for Evan/Kayla and Pono/Randi. I would say that it’s pretty fair, since Janette/Ade and Melissa/Brandon are stronger, and I would put Jeannine with the top half as well. But, I still don’t see the Jason love- and I disagree with the poster who said that the judges underrate him- they saved him 3 or 4 times! Maybe he will prove me wrong this time.

Link above are spoilers from twop. No surprises on the judges comments. It appears Kupono and Randi got panned, they loved Melissa for her ballet moves and Brandon for his athleticism in “Age of Aquarius” number by Tyce, adored Kayla (who was barefoot) in the waltz and thought Evan looked clunky (who apparently wore serious latin heels). Jason and Jeanine got a standing O from everyone for their contemporary routine choreographed by Travis Wall. Standout solos: Evan, Jeanine, Ade. Not so good solos: Jason, Randi, Kupono.

Kapuono is the least manly of the male dancers (of the Top 20, including the girls) for me.
