Tonight’s Guest Judge is Lil C

Only Courtney, Kherington, Katee and Chelsie are in the show’s introductions. After, Cat Deely introduces Jessica King to explain why she’s not on the show. She had a pain in her side and found out that she fractured 1 rib and broke 2. The doctor told her she couldn’t dance if she wanted to heal for the tour. Cat says it was decided that the fairest thing was to bring back the last girl cut, Comfort Fedoke. And the show continues as usual… – VIDEO

    Where is everyone tonight? :huh_tb:

Was The boat number that great?
Is Comfort the best hip hop girl ever?
    Are Mark and Kherington doomed?
    Are Will and Katee TCOs’?
How does Comfort replace Jessica? Nigel says she didn’t look like top 10 in the first number – well she wasn’t!

Did Imagine skip? It sounded like something went wrong but the dancing was beautiful!

  • MN Sue

Idolbeat you should join everyone in chat next time.

Did Imagine skip? It sounded like something went wrong

Naw, David just needed to gasp and lick

  • AInoob

I think Will and Katee are definitely TCO’s. I think I have to change my picks for who is going home tomorrow. Comfort got a better audience reception and judging critiques than I thought she would. Plus, I don’t see them letting her go two weeks in a row. This is my first season so I’m not sure what kind of pull the judges’ opinions have with the voting audience, but they were all around pretty negative on Kherington and Mark so maybe they are next to go?

  • MN Sue

Nigel can’t save Kherington anymore. She will go tomorrow night.

  • idolbeat

No not Kherington – she has the most beautiful extensions of all the dancers IMO! Please send Comfort home again not Kherington!

  • gingerly

Is it just me, or does Will have absolutely no charisma. He dances beautifully but he just does nothing to make me want to like him.

  • smartcookie

I think Joshua and Katee are TCOs. Or maybe there are no chosen ones. Who knows? Everybody is pretty darn good (except maybe Comfort in anything besides hip hop) so it’s hard to know. I do think that Mark and Kherington got the worst draw. Texas two-step is right up there with quickstep and disco in the “I can’t believe I pulled this crap dance” basket. But I think Mark looks terrific no matter what he does.

I really think that by this point the fanbases know who they like, and individual weeks’ performances don’t matter that much unless they blow everybody out of the water. Maybe the Will/Katee pas de deux was enough. Maybe the Twitch/Comfort hip hop was enough. But I don’t know. I think Mark has enough individual fans and had a hot enough solo to save him even though he and Kherington weren’t given very much praise tonight, but at this point all of the guys are so very good it’s hard to predict.

My gut feeling is that Will is the one with the smallest fanbase of the boys and Comfort is still the one with the smallest fanbase of the girls, but we’ll see. It’s a shame any of the boys have to go home or anyone but Comfort among the girls.

  • lilbrusc102

I love Lil C as a judge!!! Actually, I love Lil C period, haha.

I dunno how I feel about the new partnerships…I like Courtney/Joshua, and Will/Katee (although, if I were more cynical, I would question whether that partnership was REALLY picked out of a hat…), but the verdict is still up on the other ones. Gev and Chelsie were pretty cute, but I kinda miss Gevney…

I was a bit upset about Comfort being partnered with Twitch (my overall fave)but having 2 hip hop dancers did make for quite the amazingly “buck” hip hop routine (LOVED it), so I guess I can’t be too upset…although I wouldn’t mind at all if Twitch had a new partner next week, haha.

I wish we could just keep all the guys….

  • http://dreambabysdreams.blogspot.com/ Dream Baby Dream

Okay…I really wanted the spoilers to be wrong about Kherington and Mark’s two-step…but IMO it was even worse than everyone said. I can go to any country bar in the DFW area, and see better two stepping from untrained dancers. And that makes me really sad, because I love both of them, and I really love two step. I am sad.

Mark’s solo was fan-freaking-tabulous though. And Joshua’s solo? Holy crap, he rocks my world. Still love Twitch too. Out of the girls, the only solo that really stuck with me was Katee’s.

The pas de deux? Completely took me by surprise. It was amazing, and not at all what I was expecting. Katee showed an incredible amount of trust of Will, in the way she threw herself into those moves. Very cool. My favorite performance of the night, easily.

I want Joshua to show us what else he has under that shirt. I hope he keeps that promise.

  • http://dreambabysdreams.blogspot.com/ Dream Baby Dream

I love Lil C as a judge!!! Actually, I love Lil C period, haha.

Isn’t he fantastic? He was really good about telling all of the dancers what they were really good about, and also what they needed to improve on. And what struck me more than anything about him is how articulate he is. I love that that he isn’t constantly making up words like Mia. LOL. Yeah, he’s got buck. But at least he explained buck tonight. And everything else he said was a real word!

  • AInoob

I was on the phone for the first half of the show so I missed much of the package clip and the judging – what was it Chelsie said about Courtney in the package clip when she was laying on the floor with Gev on top of her?

I think Will and Katee are beautiful dancers and can probably make a potato sack race look like a beautifully choreographed artistic piece. But, for me personally, I feel nothing for either one of them, there’s just no connection for me.

  • Lisa

Naw, David just needed to gasp and lick

*spews dr pepper all over her monitor* OMG. Sorry, but that’s funny right thar. :laugh_tb:

  • KrazeeK120

Naw, David just needed to gasp and lick

    Sue, you’re fabulous!

In all seriousness, I’m getting a wee bit tired of the OTT pimping of Will and Katee. Are they fabulous dancers? Absolutely. But there are others on the show that I think are equally fabulous and that I connect with so much more.

Favorite dance tonight? Gev and Chelsie’s contemporary. I also thought Gev did really well with the Jive. Trashing him and bringing up Courtney was unacceptable, IMO.

Also, I thought Courtney and Joshua did a fantastic job together.

Mark got the shaft…bad partner, bad dances, bad costumes. I suspect he’ll be the bootee tomorrow. Sadly, I have all of my points on him.

Two new dance styles tonight…Mark gets the crappy two step and Will gets the awesome pot of duh (TM Baxter). Coincidence? I think not.

  • Kris

I am so proud that they chose to use David’s version of Imagine to go with that magnificant piece. I loved hearing his version again.

  • http://myspace.com/susanatfox sumidol

I think Will had personality and finally he gets a partner that he doesnt have to pull thru, one that shines as brightly as he does. I still hope Comfort goes home, yes she does good in her own genre but she sucks week after week in everyone elses. That was the jerkiest waltz, no ebb and flow. I feel sorry for Twitch this week. Joshua and Courtney gave me chills. They are still my favorite and they danced together this week wow

  • ealbino

at this moment on dial idol.

.Katee is top followed by Mark…
. Last is Twitch and Comfort

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

I voted a bit. God help me. I hope Kherington or Comfort goes home. As for the boys, I know it’s gonna be Mark, so he gets my points. I’d happily give up those points for nekkid pimped Will, though.

ETA: I can’t stand David A’s version of Imagine. It’s a pretty simple concept and should be sung that way. I hate the runs. And the record skipped.

  • http://www.xanga.com/hisaki_chan707 Hisaki

Naw, David just needed to gasp and lick

    LOL.

Hard to say who’ll go tomorrow night, but I’m betting either Mark/Gev (*sob*) for the guys and Comfort/Kherington for the girls. Although I just want them to send Comfort and Kherington home already…

The judges are slowly making me not like Katee and Will with all the (IMO) over-praise. I don’t think the Broadway was as good as the judges claimed it to be (I missed their pot-of-duh routine; I’ll watch it later). Like someone said, I think Will is a fabulous technical dancer but he does nothing to make me want to pick up my phone and vote for him. And no, being shirtless doesn’t help for me.

  • jpfan

Will and Katee are in a league of their own out there. That’s why the judges are praising them to the skies because they’re great. I can see the charisma issues for Will and other dancers on the show are wonderful and entertaining in different ways. Fortunately (unlike idol) it doesn’t matter at all who wins this thing so if Will or Katee don’t win the season it won’t be a travesty. I still remember Danny from last season and I liked the winner but can’t even remember her name.

Imagine sounded great but I’m surprised (and pleased) they used a song you can’t even buy. It goes into my nice surprise moment along with Danny dancing to Elliott’s A Song For You last season.

  • luci

Gev needs votes he is now at the bottom on dialidol.com

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

Will is no Danny. Not even close.

I heard Mia wanted to use Jason’s Hallelujah. I doubt it will happen. ;-) I did hear that he may record it for a movie soundtrack. He said Mexican. I hope Rodriguez.

  • MN Sue

I hope Gev sticks around another week because he just left it all on the stage tonight. His effort simply amazes me. Technically strong dancing is impressive, but his focus and effort makes him stand out in this crowd.

  • jpfan

Danny was a phenom but Will is the strongest guy this season by a mile. I like all the others but he’s way ahead on technique and pure ability. Joshua without Katee didn’t look that impressive. Kerrington was really bad.

  • MN Sue

I’m glad Comfort returned tonight if only to do a great hip hop with Twitch. Okay, now she can go.

  • http://idolstages.com Connie D.

    I didn’t like Joshua and Courtney’s comments.

They had a beautiful dance. Ok, say a few words or laugh uproariously if Nigel is egging you on, then shut up. I don’t like to say “trashy”. But I can’t think of a better word right now. They had to venture into the area a little.

I’m a fool because I can’t remember exactly what they said, but I remember that I frowned at the end.

I was trying to start with an even playing field in my heart tonight. But… damn it… Gev… he’s such a doll. And Mark… for some reason I really look forward to seeing him. The look in his eyes, his stance… something, I dunno. He knows he’s not the best dancer in the world, but he has a certain style and attitude that is enjoyable to watch.

They are all so good, I love this show.

And Chelsie… I’ve really started caring about her as much as Katee and Courtney, maybe more actually.

  • spritely

I loved Chelsie and Gev’s first dance. Loved it. I watched it twice and I watched both of Joshua’s twice. He is so damned smooth at what he does that it’s easy for me to miss all the technique the first time. That is not, however, the reason I watch him twice. :)

I thought the boat dance was really boring, but Will and Katee gave it their all, so I don’t blame them. Their pas de deux was amazing. I will keep my mouth shut about the song, because I’m fond of the singer.

I think Courtney found Joshua really hot to dance with.

Twitch, sweet Twitch, should never do ballroom. That is all. I fear he is doomed, but I don’t want any of the other guys to go, either.

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

Obviously, there are tons of peeps who love Archie’s version of Imagine. I’m just not one of them. And I’m not rooting for the Debbie Allen’s protà ©gà © either. Yeah, he’s talented. I don’t think he’s better than all the others, because he lacks something that connects. We’ll see.

  • AInoob

Connie, was it Joshua’s comments about Will and Twitch being naked on stage that bothered you? I’m trying to remember what they said that could’ve been trashy.

I’m stuck on my pool picks, not sure if I should change them or leave my current ones. Decisions, decisions.

  • jpfan

OT but Just have to add I was a h.s. teacher for one of Debbie Allen’s other famous proteges (who has also appeared on SYTYCD.) The kid went on tour and the teacher that traveled with the company (all teen boys) called me in a panic because they were tearing up the place and asked me to assign more homework. Will seems like a total sweetie though.

  • scooterpie

Call him Dr. Spankin’stein? (RE: Joshua and Courtney’s 1st number) Oh, you’ve got to be flipping crazy to think that Nigel pulled that one out of his Malibu (via London) blonde hair…I’ll bet you thought I was going to mention another body part (but hair isn’t so much a ‘part’ is it?).

I thought that Courtney was a great (and kind of creepy-in the good kind of way) Bride of Frankenstein for the opening number.

As for the rhumba my first two thoughts were: Joshua in tight tush pants and Courtney in a skimpy body clingy thingy…HOT. And I thought those naughty thoughts through out the entire dance.

A Two-Step? Sweet Jesus, say it ain’t so! Where I come from it’s practically sacrilege to thrust that kind of dance on unsuspecting youngin’s. All that spinnin’ and twistin’ and hand holdin’…them’s the kinds of thangs that’ll make a girl get all discombobulated and do things with cowboys that she oughtna do! And boys doing all the leading just so’s they can watch them a purty girl getting a bit woozy…yer shure as shootin gonna have an issue!

Now, you throw in two virgin two steppers like them two and whew! Ain’t nothing good gonna come of it…NOTHIN’!! Oh, sweet Hawa’ii Mark and Caligirl Kheri I hope ya’ll is ready for a heapin’ a sumpin, cause 2-stepping ain’t a kids dance!

Oh, and that ‘no story/no character/just dance the hell out of it jazz routine? Tyce…Tyce…Tyce what were you thinking? Those are the two people who desperately NEED to be told what to think and feel!

Will and Katee–what can I say…they are great dancers. BOOM! Earth shattering, I know. I thought the rocking the boat song was cute (but why on earth did Will do the weird vomit thing at the end? Did his character become sea sick or something? And when I saw Katee in her little ‘cutsey vixen’ costume I thought…hmmm, Lolita in a boat.

And that same creepy youthful thing hit me again when they danced to the Archuletta’s “I’m going to change the entire meaning of one of the world’s most influential songs by not singing the opening line” version of “Imagine”.

My husband said, “What is Will wearing? Is that a diaper or something?” And at about the same time I said, “Maybe, because that thing Katee is wearing looks like a baby onsie”

I thought the notion of a Pas de Deux for a massive audience was a novel idea…But I wasn’t all that ga-ga for it. Considering when I think Pas de Deux, I think exquisite lines, pointes, close connection and above all grace. But it was contemporary-ish so what do I know?

Comfort and Twitch–Oh good grief! Having those two waltz is like telling a person with tacks in their big toes to walk in a straight line and look like they’re having fun. It can be done but it just looks awkward and painful. I did like the hip-hop routine (but I had a bit of a ‘Blades of Glory’ moment when I saw Twitch standing there in his bedazzled duds.) Oh, and I can only imagine what it would have looked like if Jessica had been told to dance that hip hop–She would have had to pray for a miracle!

Gev…sweet Gev and Courtney…no, no…sorry Chelsie. He looked great in both his dances (and yes, we’re aware that he’s not as well trained as she is…but he’s done amazingly well don’t you think?) He did look a tad puppy doggish because I swear, I really think he’d rather have been with New York Courtney as opposed to Utah Chelsie. She’s like a Barbie (alright a short, small chested Barbie….but you know what I mean) and he’s like…hmm, not Ken or Steve or any of Barbie’s other friends.

Oh, their dancing? It as pretty good. The contemporary one was moving (it moved Chelsie’s undies WAY up) As for the jive, Chelsie kicked it on that one but Gev held his own. Honestly, do you have any idea how hard it is to “be the sewing machine needle Grasshopper”?

Who do I think will go tomorrow? Will America be able to separate the individuals from the pairs and make informed intelligent choices. I don’t know…I just don’t know! I know who I didn’t vote for…do you think you can figure it out based on my blog? OOOHH, it’s killing you…you think you know…you think you know….

Nighty night…I must prepare my couch for tomorrow’s show.

  • KrazeeK120

  • http://myspace.com/susanatfox sumidol

I dont think Joshua said anything trashy – he was a little bashful cute to me – kidding about how the other two boys always come out half naked but maybe it kinda sounded that way.

Ok, what bugged me about Comfort was, yeah, she did well, finally got some raves after how many dances now?? She was acting cocky and all that, something about her is really bugging me now. You know how Nigel doesnt like the guys to be “twee” well I think Comfort is too butch to be a good match with any of the guys. She is not graceful or pretty in a gown, she cant really carry the ladylike, graceful dances off. She would be best on a really good crew, she needs to get a crew together for Randys show maybe.

  • Virgii5

Forget the chosen ones.. that entire concept. Whatever. There are no chosen ones. There are talented ones who stand out, and that’s what Katee & Will are. They don’t have to boost them up and overpraise them… the praise they got tonight was well deserved. They are truly one of the more talented ones on the show remaining.

Kherington needs to go. Comfort had a good r&b routine that may save her. It’ll be tight, but honestly Kherington has little to offer. She has heavy steps for a dancer, and leaves me feeling like blah after I watch her dance.

  • baxter

    My 2 cents…for what it’s worth…

1- GAH…I’m a Josh-tard!! I love to watch him dance and I think the reason is, that when I look at him, when he’s not dancing, I can’t picture him as a dancer. But he was fan-freakin-tastic in the Hip Hop dance. The Rumba….SAAAAAA….MOKIN!!!! never a bad night when Josh wears those tight pants…LOL. Btw are Courtney and Josh now ManaNey???

2- Kerrington and Mark….uhhhhh….not buying what they were selling tonight. Mark’s solo was good, but the duets…not so much.

3-Twitch and Comfort…That first dance was a Hot Mess. Comfort really can’t dance anything but her genre. The Hip Hop was really good, but I was more interested in watching Twitch than Comfort….not that she danced badly…but that Twitch just danced better.

4-Katee and Will….First dance was enjoyable, but not the best of the night. The Pot-of-Duh ( TM…ME!!!) wasn’t anything I enjoyed. Didn’t get teh tongue bath the judges gave them. I thought several other dances far surpassed what this dance was suppose to be. For a new dance…I still say that Manatee’s Bollywood was better than the Pot-of-Duh by Katee and Will.

5- Chelsie and Gev- Who can’t love Gev. THe guy gives it his all everytime, whether it’s good or not, but he tries harder than anyone else on the show…IMHO!! I liked the first dance better than the Jive, but I still think they were in a tie for the best couple of the night…right up there with ManaNey!!

Best song of the night….Brian Setzer…This House is a Rockin’. I have a HUGE MASSIVE crush on Brian Setzer, even during his Stray Cat days….sigh.

Best costume- Will…cause he looks delicious without a shirt…sigh!!

Worst song- Not for the singer, but that version of Imagine makes my teeth hurt and I couldn’t understand why they didn’t strip the audience applause from the recording??? and that pause in the middle was….well just odd.

    Worst Costumes- 1-Mark…DO.NOT.WEAR.A.LACE.TRIMMED.CAMISOLE!!
2- Courtney’s solo dress looked like a brushes in the car wash I use. 3- Comfort/Will’s space cadet outfits….with matching eye and lip makeup…JUST NO!!

  • crzyshrk

God I loved the Imagine song..and the dance..that required some skills! The choreographer Desmond Richardson heard David Archuleta sing it at the finale and really liked it that’s why he used it.

  • bigepaz

And I am just one of the TONS/MILLIONS that loved Archie’s “Imagine”. I’m so happy they used his version. It was a nice reminder of that moment that brought much deserved attention to him. One of the best choreographers in the world got it too – cool!

Back to the dancers – Comfort has got to go. It probably would’ve been Jessica if she was still in it. Poor Twitch.

I love Joshua, Gev, Courtney, Chelsie, Twitch and Katie. I feel bad for Will because he IS the best dancer, but the tongue bath is certainly turning people off. No matter though. Whether he wins or loses he’s going to a have a long career.

  • idolfan86

    Loved the “Imagine” dance.

This is what the famous renowned Desmond Richardson had to say about the song selection [so no, Nigel had no involvement in the matter ;) ] …

David, the young one American Idol sang a version of Imagine that gave me chills and inspired me to create a dance for the show(SYTYCD). It was so pure and magical.

    Pretty cool. :)

  • JudyOhio

looks like gev has come up some on dialidol….3rd from bottom right now at least.

Joshua, Gev, Courtney, Katee…still my favs.

  • Steph

I love Will. Maybe its b/c I am new to this show, but the tounge baths don’t bother me like they do on idol. He is beautiful in every movement. Comfort impressed me with that hip hop routine this week – BUT she can still go home. I with you guys on the idea of keeping the all of the guys and booting Kherington and Comfort. BTW Chelsie KILLED the jive. Wow. I agree that Gev is adorable and hard-working, but soon he will be out of his leauge.

Every week I am astounded by how much more I like the way this show is set up. Idol has let it get out of hand. SYTYCD isn’t one big commercial, there is so much more face time with the contestants, and the judges don’t over power the show with foolish banter. Nigel, take some of this with you to Idol next season!!

  • primeminister

    MARRKKK MARRRKK MARKKK
I’m not even going to watch the show. I’ll just make my pool picks and move on. *sniff*

  • 3babies

My favorite of the night…the dance to Imagine. David Archuleta’s Imagine just gives me goosebumps when I hear it. Usually the music makes the routine and it did in this case.

  • http://myspace.com/susanatfox sumidol

    I oh nevermind.

  • L_a_d_y_b_u_g

I totally agree with Mary when she said: Beautiful. beautiful song (David’s version of Imagine), beautiful choreography (by Desmond and Dwight), and two of the best dancers in the show (Katee and Will)… That’s what makes this dance pretty special.

  • weelassie

Is there a long pause in Archie’s version of Imagine? It just was odd to use a song with a pause in it like that during a dance routine. The dancing and song were beautiful until that weird pause. Surely, they could have edited that out if it were not a mistake. I don’t know his version of the song well enough to know if they had technical difficulty or if that pause belongs in the song? does anyone know. If it belongs in the song, they should have edited it out. other than that huge gap, the dance went well with the song.

  • Mackie

wow… i just love Arch’s Imagine with that dance by Katee and Will!!! Beautiful song with a beautiful choreography!!! Me and my brothers just watched it and we were all….lost for words!!! Breathtaking!!!!! Even my brothers who are big fans of Cook after watching the show…are so loving the song now…

  • Mackie

And also, Will and Katee is definitely the best of the night!!! Hands down!!!

  • erinnthered

I really wanted to like Will and Katee’s Pas de Duex. I started out amazed. I really felt like I was seeing members of a world class professional dance company. I was even able to ignore the fact that I don’t like this version of Imagine. Then I saw Katee’s teeth glimmering in the light. What the hell was she doing smiling her way through that? Completely took me out of the routine and me evaluate every move. Technically it was good, but I couldn’t maintain the connection. The song grated too. I think Nigel’s comments about this dance being about as good as they can get are very telling. I couldn’t tell how much of a compliment it really was.

I would still give my right arm to see Desmond Richardson dance.

Tyce got on my nerves with his jazz routine. Every routine has a personality. The two-step and the pas de duex were not stories, but each dancer had a character. For him to come out and tell Mark and Kherington not to have character was rediculous to me. There was no need to approach it that way. He could have just given them the dance and asked them to find their own character in it. Instead he gave Mark and Kherington a hurdle to overcome that they never should have had. He knew they weren’t technicians, and as far as I’m concerned he was shirking his responsibility as a choreographer by not taking into account the strengths of the dancers he was presented with when he gave them notes. Especially with a brand new partnership.

The knollish person in me makes me wonder if Mia encouraged this. I love her work, but she seems to be very down on dancers without great technique, and now that we know they are friends and discuss this stuff, I just wonder.

Still love Gev and Courtney and Chelsie and Joshua and Twitch and Mark. Mark’s solo was great. There is more to dancing than technique, and every one of these dancers prove it to me every week.

  • http://www.dancin.ca dancin

well my favs are still joshua and katee

we could have one of those shockers and will goes home ( i know technically hes a great dancer) but he has the charisma of an eggshell.. and quite frankly hes trying to get votes showing off his body that shirt rip did not do it for me

i think it should be comfort & will but witll prolly be comfort & mark

kherington has only been in bottom 3 once far as i remember

    i really don’t know lol

but i did love the dancing tonite from most of them

GAH!!! Who to choose? I am all kinds of blown away by all the guys. I don’t want any of them to go, lose two girls! If it was that easy, I think Comfort and Kher are the ones to go. But who to chose between those two even!

Loved the routines, I even kinda enjoyed the twostep as I am not familiar with it, probably because I love Mark. Kher is one of those who started out strong and one to beat and she has just faded away.

I am in camp “can’t stand that version of Imagine”. I love Archie’s voice and he is such a sweetie but that is like nails on a blackboard to me. Funny that I don’t think there has been a cover on Idol that has ever had such a split reaction of love/loathe. Loved the routine but I had to turn the sound wayyyy down.

I thought Will showed some more personality tonight, he let go a bit. His solo was amazing, that leap thingy he did. And Joshua is unreal, he turns on this personna of Mr Tough Guy but he is such a soft spoken sweetie. Twitch is just wow, and Mark and Gev and oh hell, they are all soooo damn good! I don’t know who to pick. The only comfort I’ll get is that they will all be on tour so won’t cry too much to lose one.

And just to clarify, there isn’t a bottom couple, just bottom single dancers? So one could be in the bottom but the partner no?

  • idolbeat

weelassie, I agree. I don’t remember the pause in the song when he sang it on Idol. It disconnected the music from the dance to me because it was so noticeable – maybe it was technical difficulty. Between the awkward pause and the very noticable missed turn, it ruined what could have been the best performance of the season. For me, the contemporary dance with Jessica and Will was the best – and so unexpected from Jessica.

I must not be seeing what the judges saw. The boat dance was not all that. There actually was not as much dance in the routine as there was all those leg lifts.

The best part of the show was the solos. I thought they were all great – I loved the music that Kherington danced to, Breaking Dishes. I thought she did a great job with it.

  • http://dreambabysdreams.blogspot.com/ Dream Baby Dream

The pause in the music was not the way David performed it on Idol. Apparently, they had to edit the music to make it fit the time allowed for this piece, and they cut some out. I think it was a poor editing job, but it is not the first poor editing job we have seen on SYTYCD, at least in my opinion. I don’t know who is responsible for cutting the music down to the length necessary…but I would imagine that the choreographers at least have a lot to do with it, because they are the ones who choose the music they want to choreograph to.

  • KrazeeK120

I’m about 80% confident that Comfort will be gone….again.

For the boys, actually, the only one I think that FOR SURE is safe is Joshua. I can think of reasons for any of the other 4 to go. I have my points on my favorite right now (Mark!) and it pains me…I may switch to Gev by the time the show comes on, although I don’t want him to go either.

I voted for Gev, Courtney, Chelsie, Mark, and Joshua. I love this show wayyyyy too much!

  • http://kmantoniva.blogspot.com/ KristiVA

KrazeeK120 – I voted the exact same way! I’m hopeful that Will is at the bottom this week. I think he a great dancer but I don’t think he is America’s favorite by any means. DialIdol also has him on the bottom.

  • ealbino

Dialidol has Twitch and Comfort as the bottom this morning. Will went up to 2nd place for the men. Katee is tops overall.

  • rher

erinnth – I agree with so much of your post. ditto on Katee smiling, although I think that she is the one who could win it all. I also agree that the jazz dance wasn’t all that. The Neil Sabra dance (was it Sabra) around the office table was tons better, and this boat dance seemed to follow a similar format.

I don’t know why the judges keep giving passes to Comfort. If Gev did half as bad as Comfort did on the waltz, he would have been beaten about the head and shoulders with criticisms. She looked awful, as usual. Bad posture, bad extensions, no toe pointing. Mia called her out a couple weeks ago on lack of technique; it is brutally noticeable.

The incestual relationship between Idol and SYTYCD reared its ugly head last night. So much good music out there – and we get Imagine?

  • Suzanne

Apparently, the choreographer wanted that version of Imagine, not the show.

MJ’s summary at the top misspells Archuleta. Forgetting so soon, MJ?

  • ealbino

This is what the famous renowned Desmond Richardson had to say about the song selection [so no, Nigel had no involvement in the matter ;) ] à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

David, the young one American Idol sang a version of Imagine that gave me chills and inspired me to create a dance for the show(SYTYCD). It was so pure and magical.

Thanks idolfan86. Yayyyyyyy that of all the songs out there – David’s Imagine inspired him! :clap_tb:

I’m I the only one who does not understand the second bonus question in the pool ?

  • Joanna

“I was on the phone for the first half of the show so I missed much of the package clip and the judging – what was it Chelsie said about Courtney in the package clip when she was laying on the floor with Gev on top of her?”

She said something along the lines of first Gev got to grab Courtney’s butt, now he gets to lay on top of Chelsie, and he’s enjoying it too much. I think she might be giving herself a little too much credit. She’s a great dancer, but she’s no Courtney IMO.

While Will is surely the best technical dancer, I just don’t care about him at all. He doesn’t move me, and there’s no charisma. If SYTYCD was about finding America’s best dancer, I would be forced to admit that he should win, but Cat reminds us every week that it’s about finding “America’s favorite dancer.” Will is 5th on my list of favorite guys.

MJà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s summary at the top misspells Archuleta. Forgetting so soon, MJ?

In the 3 or 4 posts I put up this week about Archie, I do believe I spelled his name right there. So, no I haven’t forgotten. But, thanks for the correction. I hate typos.

I would love to see Joshua/Katee and Gev/Courtney Final Four but I’m sure somehow that Will and Chelsie will get there.

  • wfowfowfo

Went looking for something to cheer me up rewatching last night’s show — and, well I have to say that Mark’s got one nice butt in those cowboy jeans! I felt like he tried like hell to sell it, and true to his-abilities, he had a great cowboyish stance/characterization with hat and all — but, sheesh, fucking two-step? WTF?

I still love him and want him around for a few more weeks. Hopefully, his fanbase came through for him last night — while the the idiot PTB seem done with him. I know I voted like crazy.

Otherwise? I liked Joshua way more last night than I have in the past. I feel like he showed some spunk when talking with Cat at the end of one of their performances — about Will and Twitch being shirtless. I’m sure he’s got his own 6-pack he’s wishing to show. I really enjoy Will shirtless — but it’s a little bit much every week. Courtney was very cute as the frankenstein monster.

And, Gev impressed me too —

I’d hate to see Mark or Gev go tonight. I just couldn’t put my points on either of them. So I left them on Will — even though I doubt he’ll be going. I might switch them to Twitch — I’m still thinking on it.

Didn’t like them using DA’s song. Weird glitch in the middle where they spliced the clip — just not good. I’m old and remember the original version so well — I didn’t like that he messed with it, running up and down the scales… not necessary.

  • elisad

  • rher

One more thing – was Kherrington perhaps injured as well? She seemed to be moving in slow motion last night.

When I watched Will dance his solo, I was thinking that he should already be a professional dancer. He needs to work on projecting the mood of the song to the audience. He did that a bit, because of being forced to act, in the jazz number, but I could see Mark from this year and some of the boys from last year (Neil or even Danny) working the character. I thought it was a little bit overly spastic in some parts and then boring in others.

I loved when Jean Marc was teaching the jive to Gev! I don’t think that Gev is going home this week. It will be Twitch or Mark.

  • motherofautumn

I’ve never looked at DialIdol before, and I don’t understand how to interpret their predictions — since Will is at the bottom of the list of guys, does that mean he’s the lowest vote-getter per the site’s predictions? Or do I have to download the program in order to read the predictions?

  • ealbino

motherofautumn… there are 3 ways to look at dialidol data. You can get their score, raw data or busy percentage.

I looked at the “raw data” that shows the actual votes that came in and that’s were Twitch and Comfort were last. Their score is determined by calculating data and busy percentages I believe.

  • rockchalk

Thanks for all the videos MJ. I am such a huge fan of Will and Twitch at this point. Twitch has the awesome personality and some quirk, and Will is just beautiful to watch pimped or not. Plus, he seems like a good guy. I don’t really feel all that attached to any of the girls at this point…any of them could go, and I wouldn’t really care (though I do think Comfort should probably go based on ability). However, I will say that Katee has really started to grow on me and I loved the Will/Katee partnership. They are so gorgeous to watch. Not a big fan of that version of Imagine, but that routine was pretty awesome. As far as the guys go, I could honestly lose Gev or Mark at this point and not really miss them. Kherington and Mark were kind of a mess together IMO, and I wasn’t as impressed with Joshua without Katee but I still really like him. This is shaping up to be a pretty decent season so far.

ETA: Lil C was a pretty awesome judge last night. He was actually helpful with his comments and I didn’t want to strangle him by the end (I am looking at you Mia).

I’ve been searching everywhere for an attribution for this quote, and have yet to find it on any board. I’ll second the request for a link if anyone has it. I had no problems with Archuleta’s ‘Imagine’ being used for the pas de deux since cross-promotion like that is beneficial to both shows, but I’d be very surprised if that decision was not infulenced in some way by TPTB. There are just too many other great versions of that song that wouldn’t require choppy editing or the removal of audience and ambient noise (like say, the original John Lennon version?). I’m starting to wonder if this quote from Richardson isn’t a bit of manufactured fanwanking to keep people off the knoll.

  • jenniewdc

About ealbino’s answer to motherofautumn’s question — Where do I find the “raw data” on Dial Idol for SYTYCD?

Thanks in advance, if someone could reply.

Dialidol is a pretty good tool for American Idol, but not for a smaller show like SYTYCD. I don’t think the sample of people voting with Dialidol is big enough to accurately predict the results. Also, the thing that makes DI work for AI is that so many people are voting that the busy signal is pretty prevalant. Not many people vote for SYTYCD, so there isn’t much of a busy signal to measure. When I do look at DI, I look at the busy percentages, but I don’t put much faith into them. I don’t think the raw numbers are representative. They just show how many votes were cast by people who used DI’s technology to vote, whereas the busy signal tries to take into account who is getting the most votes overall. If Will is at the bottom of their list, then to DI, it appears that he has the lowest number of votes. However, if you look at the numbers for all the other guys, they are too close to take any kind of margin of error into account. Comfort’s numbers are in red, which means according to the information they collected, DI feels that she is so far behind in the numbers that they can safely predict that she will be voted off (again).

  • ealbino

jenniewdc – there is a column on dialidol under SYTYCD that says STAT…it has a dropdown menu – You can then choose what you want to see dialidol score, raw numbers or busy percentages.

  • ianamy

I think that quote is manufactured. Dancing to “imagine” is so obviously Nigel’s idea. There are a lot of songs out there that could fit the dance. Nigel talked about David in his judging but it is edited out because of the time constraints.

  • http://myspace.com/susanatfox sumidol

Ladymadonna – I too went searching for that quote and cannot find it. Someone also said that Davids version of the song MADE the dance what it was. I disagree, the beautiful simplicity of Lennons version should have been the version they used for this dance. The constant clapping, the stop and start in the middle and the gratuituous runs throughout take away from Lennons message and the portrayal of that message with the dance itself. Davids version is lovely but better suited for a different stage I think. It did what it was meant to do though. It stirred up more promotion for David and SYTYCD, I noticed people posting on here that never have before just because Davids song was used so, of course, it was a good move if you think of it from a promotional stand point.

  • bigepaz

Hey MJ – Archie mentioned Katie and Will’s dance in his latest blog. He said he felt “Like honored lol”. He’s so funny!

  • elle

Honestly, manufacturing quotes?? Why is it so hard to believe that the choreographer liked it, just like most of the rest of the world, and wanted to use it? I am diehard Archie, and am happy for him that they used it, but I wasn’t crazy about the combo of the dance and music with the edit they did. Wierd.

Also, I was waiting for Nigel to say something about David since his comments about peaking too early were so appropriate to “Imagine.” I believe someone posted that there was an edit? How do we know that? Just wondering.

  • http://myspace.com/susanatfox sumidol

Elle you are probably right there, why wouldnt he like Davids version, but we all know the manipulations done on these shows so it just makes one curious. It was weird, the editing of the song that is for sure.

  • kerfuffle

I’m torn about whether I should change my pool pick. I’m keeping Comfort for the girls, but I currently have Twitch for the guys. I’m so thinking it could be a “shocking” elimination this week, with Will going home. While I agree with most everyone here that he is the most technically gifted and talented of the dancers, he doesn’t seem to connect with the public at large – though maybe that’s a misconception on my part since he doesn’t connect with me. I love watching him dance, but don’t feel I really “know” him as a person, I guess. Since this is all based on votes, I’m thinking that all of the other guys have larger, or more devoted (read: fanatical) fan bases.

Last night, for instance, I think Mark and Kherington were the weakest links. But I voted for both of them (as well as Gev and Courtney), since I’ve already picked them as some of my favorites. I also love Joshua and Twitch. I figured Joshua didn’t need my votes; and Twitch, while great in Hip Hop, is not that strong in the other styles. He’s likable as all get out though. I’m thinking his staunchest supporters would have voted like crazy for him last night – and he really did kill the Hip Hop. (So did Comfort, but she has never built up much of a fan base early. That really is the ONLY time she shined this season, imo.)

  • c-lyn

I did not enjoy Mark or Kherington at all last night. I never got the love Nigel had for Kherington at the beginning of the competition. She’s a beautiful girl, but her dancing skills, IMO, are just not great. I’ve loved Mark in previous weeks, but he really let me down last night. I didn’t even like his solo.

I, too, would love to see Joshua, Katee, Gev, and Courtney as the top four. Gev is working so hard week after week and he is so entertaining to watch. He and Courtney are just wonderful together. Joshua has been my favorite since the auditions and Katee joined him there the first week of the competition. I agree that Will is the best technical dancer, but I wouldn’t miss him if he left tonight. Twitch is beloved by so many, and rightfully so, but he lacks the skills to win. Comfort will never look good with a partner in anything other than hip hop. I’m glad she got the chance to shine last night, but she really needs to go.

I really like Chelsie too. I think she’s working almost as hard as Gev, but I still prefer Courtney over her.

  • KrazeeK120

Why is it so hard to believe that the choreographer liked it, just like most of the rest of the world, and wanted to use it?

I’m going to beg to differ. I doubt most of the rest of the world has even heard the song. And, there are PLENTY of people out there who don’t like that version of the song. I, for one, do not believe that song should be messed with. I much prefer Blake’s rendition to DA’s for that reason…he sang it straight. I know there’s a lot of people out there who agree with me.

Plus, I don’t think they’ve ever done that for any of the idols in the past (that is, used a song from an Idol performance show). Before anyone jumps on me, I’m aware that a solo was done to one of Elliott’s songs last year. However, that was more than a year after he’d been on the show and the song was off of his CD, readily available for purchase to anyone who wanted it. But, I digress.

I’m starting to get tired of the pimping on SYTYCD. On Idol, they at least ACT like they’re trying to find the “best singer” so they pimp the people who they deem are “the best.” But SYTYCD is supposed to be about finding “America’s Favorite Dancer.” The judges seem fairly focused on technical ability. Will and Katee (and Chelsie and Joshua IMO) are the best technical dancers in the competition. But there are others (Gev, Twitch) who have more personality in their pinkies than Will has in his whole body. Is there some reason that America can’t pick its own favorite dancer without Nigel shoving his favorites down our throats? If they are looking for the best technical dancer, they need to stop saying that they are awarding the title of “America’s Favorite Dancer” at the end of the competition.

I don’t care for DA’s version of Imagine, but hopefully that was the last time I’ll ever hear it. I don’t think there’s anything particularly unfair or knollish about them using it, but they might have worked out the kinks in the editing before playing that version on national TV. There were so many songs I hated on the show last night “Imagine if This Perfect Song Had Too Many Runs” barely stuck out.

Well, this is my first year watching and I swore there was no way I would ever vote, but there I was at 10:10 voting for my little Russian (TM Chelsie) and also a little bit for Mark. Mark wasn’t on top of his game, but he definitely got screwed with bland choreography x2, a cowboy hat, a camisole and Kherington. He’s been one of the most consistently entertaining so I think he’ll stick around, in spite of all that. I thought Gev actually had his best night so far, after a pretty strong week last week, and I even thought he did fine on the Jive (Will’s wasn’t any better in my completely useless opinion) I thought that was one of the more memorable dances of the night (and not just because of Chelsie). The Dancing With the Stars comment seemed a little low.

I have all my points on Comfort and Gev, but I wish they could send Kherington and Comfort home instead. Gev is smaller than some of the girls so I’m sure any of the other guys could pick him up and throw him around, lol.

  • elle

KrazeeK – Of course I understand that most of the ‘world’ hasn’t heard Imagine. I guess I need to be a little more literal on this site!

However, I would beg to differ that of all the people who have heard it, many more liked it that did not. And many have been inspired by it. It’s OK if you don’t prefer it, but that doesn’t mean that lots did, including most likely, the choreographer.

  • Allison

I don’t now, I’m not really enjoying the performances this year. The characters aren’t grabbing me like last year. Only Gev/Chelsie/Courtney are consistently entertaining me. I could have lived without dancing in a boat! And I’m not happy with Comfort back again. But I did really like Li’l C as a judge. He’s respectful, and endeavors to explain coherently what he’s feeling about the performance.

  • Grammie Kari

I do think that Mark and Kherington got the worst draw. Texas two-step is right up there with quickstep and disco in the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t believe I pulled this crap danceà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ basket. But I think Mark looks terrific no matter what he does.

I did not know this dance and I was expecting a fun-filled, peppy dance like Sara Evans did 2 seasons ago on DWTS. What a major disappontment. Much too slow and nothing special. I do like them as a couple though.

The boat dance did not impress me that much and I feel the judges are overpraising Katee. Comfort should go home, again. I am not impressed.

Now, Joshua and Courtney is the couple who I enjoyed the most last night. There is good chemistry between them. Finally, I figured out who she reminds me of… Debra Winger, the actress. Now, she did some good country type dancing in “Urban Cowboy!”

  • jpfan

As far as I know the choreographer always choses the music. Why would Nigel force a well known choreographer to use a song you can’t even buy anymore? And I dislike a lot of the music used on the show but I accept the fact that the choreographer or dancer chose it. I’m not seeing anything major here and lots of people liked Imagine. It was one of Archie’s big sellers. It’s not one of my particular favorites but different strokes, you know.

It def is America’s favorite dancer which is why I wouldn’t be surprised if Will or Katee didn’t make it to the end. That’s fine with me since there really is no big honor associated with winning this show. The whole top ten are winners in my book just for getting exposure on the show. The judges are giving their honest opinions I asume. But it’s just a realityTV show you know.

PS – only about 8 million people watch SYTYCD so get played on the latter is not a major deal compared to singing it to an Idol audience.

  • http://kmantoniva.blogspot.com/ KristiVA

You are not alone. He has not connected with me in the least. In fact, I’m coming to loath him intensely, but that’s just me.

One more thing, KrazeeK120, GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!! LOL

  • RiaP

Even though the pimpage of Will and Katee is over the top, it’s not their fault. They kinda deserve all that praise because their dance was great!

I actually don’t want any of them to go :( It would suck if Comfort was eliminated the second time in a row. And I love all the boys! Especially Mark! I think Kherington would be my pick for the girls.

Some people hate the version, some people love it. It was just used for a dance. It’s not THAT of a big deal.

Keep your remarks on the TOPIC of the thread, NOT on the thread itself, please.

Honestly, manufacturing quotes?? Why is it so hard to believe that the choreographer liked it, just like most of the rest of the world, and wanted to use it?

I don’t find it hard to believe that Desmond Richardson liked the song. I was just trying to find a link to the interview where he supposedly said this. It wasn’t included in the pre-dance package in last nights’ show, and I frequent a lot of AI and SYTYCD sites/boards and nobody has been able to provide an attribution for the quote.

I think music-selection is an important element of the overall perception of a routine on SYTYCD, and I’m curious about how those decisions are made. I just tend to question any kind of paraphrasing that pops up on fansites without any direct attribution – that doesn’t mean I question the use of the song.

Also, for what it’s worth, I’m another viewer who certainly admires the technical skill and beauty of Will’s dancing, but has yet to really connect with him enough to root for him. The pas de deux was lovely, but it was Gev & Chelsie’s contemporary that I found myself rewinding to rewatch again and again last night. I would not be surprised at all to see Will in the B2 tonight (both due to backlash from perceived over-pimping, as well as lukewarm audience reaction).

  • Grammie Kari

MJ, if you feel this is off-topic then please delete.

This “Two-Step” dance was just killing me, so I had to look up the name of the dance Sara Evans did on DWTS and it was called a ‘country-themed jive’ to Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made For Walking”.

If Mark and Kherington had pulled a jive, then Ronnie DeBenedetta and Brandi Tobias would have been able to countrify it. I just wanted to see a new dance come off as good and their dance just wasn’t that special.

  • Grammie Kari

I thought that was one of the more memorable dances of the night (and not just because of Chelsie). The Dancing With the Stars comment seemed a little low.

  • cheese

Cheese, if this was in reference to my comment, I really am so sorry!

Oh no, not at all. I was talking about the judges’ comments about DWTS. I just felt a little sorry for Gev since since the last thing viewers heard from the judges before voting started was basically “Hey, Gev looked like Adam Corolla up there!” It’s a little different coming from a blogger, lol.

    weelassie,

Joshua’s partner prior to this week was Katee. Will was with Jessica. And I think Joshua was affectionate with Katee, but I’m not sure she was as … for lack of a better word … reciprocol … as Courtney was last night.

I was pouting a bit for Gev myself last night over that. Am I a dork, or what? Don’t answer that.

  • Joanna

While Mark and Kherington were dancing to “Canned Heat” I couldn’t think of anything but Napoleon Dynamite dancing to that song.

I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one who doesn’t feel anything for Will. Nothing against him, I’m just hoping for a shocking elimination that would keep other people I’m more interested in (particularly Gev) in the competition.

  • champ

JI’ve loved Mark since day one but wow. I think he is a terrific dancer, but wow. I think Kherrington is no where near as good as the judges seem to think, I don’t think she ever should have made the top 20, but I can’t even blame it all on her for how bad that two step was. It was a slow motion bomb. I liked Mark’s solo tonight, but that’s about it. He is my guess for going home tonight, Will being my other guess. As for girls, Comfort and Kherrington in the bottom – and maybe, just maybe, Kherrington will be heading home and Comfort will get another week. Which would be fine with me, pleeeease get Kherrington off my TV!! Other than that, Chelsie is still my pick to win. She is just so so so good I can’t keep my eyes off of her. Otherwise…Jessica? Hot!

  • weelassie

    kerfuffle,
yep, that’s why i can’t remember joshua holding jessica. cuz she was with will. lol. i get them mixed up sometimes. i just don’t remember him holding anyone like he did last night. joshua and courtney seem to have some good chemistry.

erinnth – I agree with so much of your post. ditto on Katee smiling, although I think that she is the one who could win it all. I also agree that the jazz dance wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t all that. The Neil Sabra dance (was it Sabra) around the office table was tons better, and this boat dance seemed to follow a similar format.

    It’s just Erinn ;)

I just don’t think Katee has as large of a fan base as the judges seem to think. I, for one, loved her at first, but I’ve really begun to grow cold towards her. The judges over praise doesn’t help. Courtney and Chelsie will crush her when it comes down to it.

Table (which was just nominated for an Emmy!!) is one of my favorite dances in the history of the show. That boat dance was no where near it.

I just can’t help but wonder what a dancer like Will is doing on this show. He’s 21, and for all intents and purposes he should have been picked up by a company already. What are his motives? Danny wanted the money and clout to open his own studio, so that made sense, but why Will?

In watching Comfort’s goodbye video last week, and Kerrington’s goodbye video this week – I would much rather have seen more of Kerrington.

Gev’s solo was awesome. I didn’t want any of the guys to leave this week. He seems so sweet and a favorite of Cat’s. I hope he will be paired with Courtney for the tour!

The answer to Will may have something to do with Debbie Allen.

OOooO thanks for explaining the 4 real thing. I honestly thought it had something to do with being black because I was only aware of Will, Joshua, Twich, and Comfort wearing the shirts but apparently Gev had one on too, so I was mistaken. Cool. My favorite is still Twitch from the boys but all of the guys are talented, except Mark does nothing for me. For the girls, ehhh I dont have a favorite anymore since Kourtney left and now Kherington :(
