Is the So You Think You Can Dance tour coming to a city near YOU? Check out the Tour Schedule to find out!

After the live show ended Thursday night, the producers made a surprise announcement to the crowd. From the LA Times Show Tracker blog:

The best backstage moment — by far — occurred at the very end of the show, after the cameras had stopped rolling. After Comfort Fedoke and Thayne Jasperson’s eliminations, Nigel teamed up with another member of the production to make a shocking announcement: The top 10 dancers arenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t the only ones going on tour this year … four more dancers will be making the trek. And two of them are Comfort and Thayne!

So, Comfort and Thayne are going on tour. Who could the other two dancers be?

Last year and the year before, the dancers were not always the same at every show. Hok was eliminated right before the top 10 and he did the whole tour, but Anya (also before Top 10) did not. Dancers get injured and they have others fill in, etc.

This has probably already been mentioned but did you all know that Twitch was in the movie hairspray?

  • wfowfowfo

Two more? How about that Robert Muraine (sp?) popper dude and the other guy they’re going to have him “dance off” with?

    Bet someone a $1!

Anya did the whole tour. So did Hok, Jesus and Shauna. The only one who didn’t do the whole tour (i.e., actually left the tour and came back) was Lacey, who was injured for a while in the middle of the tour.

But it’s true that the tour isn’t exactly the same everywhere. Anya and Danny did their fox trot some of the time, but added the waltz and also did the samba while Lacey was gone. Shauna did her Wizard of Oz piece with Kameron, but filled in in other places while Lacey was gone, and Jaime did the butterfly piece with Hok everywhere, but added the Mia Dead Daddy thing with Neil while Lacey was gone.

But all four of the alternates (or swings, if you want to call them that) traveled with the whole tour. Those were Hok and Anya, #11 and #12, and Shauna (who went out 13/14) and Jesus (who went out 15/16).

My guesses for this year are Chelsea Traille and Jamie Bayard, believe it or not. They need versatile people who can pop in anywhere they might be needed. To my mind, that’s not Matt and Kourtni, mostly because they’re too tall, but it could be. I dunno. But I doubt they’d go all the way back to the beginning to pick up Jamie. The thing is, Jamie is the only non-contemporary male dancer eliminated before the Top Ten.

So… I really don’t know who the other ones will be. The only ones who seemed to pick up fanbases were Matt and Kourtni. But Chuy and Shauna both had distinctive dances that got picked up for the tour (Vagabond and Wizard of Oz, respectively) and I don’t know what they would pick up for anybody below Top Ten.

Impressive that you know so much about the history of the show, smartcookie!

I know what you’re saying about Matt & Khourtni’s heights possibly keeping them from joining the tour. Still, I’d like to see both of them make it. Not surprisingly, in an interview with Khourtni after she left the show, she said she was still hoping to be picked for the tour.

As someone else said, it was my thought too that the producers are certainly determined to put Comforte on the tour, no matter what. About Chelsea Traille, is she really all that versatile? She might be able to pop in where needed, but I didn’t think she excelled.

So, they will manage to get Comfort in the tour. Now which guy will she be doing a Hip Hop routine? Maybe when out of the competition mode, she’ll be able to relax. Thayne kinds of grew on me. Mia recognizes some talent there, so I believe he will also grow in this process of a tour.

I am anxious to see who the other two dancers will be!

  • erennick

Yes, thanks Smartcookie! You corrected and clarified things for me.

That’s great news for Thayne! I thought he was a beautiful dancer and his swan song dance was lovely. Not feeling Comfort so much but good for her. Yea wfowfowfo, I think you might be right about Moraine! So no takers on a sucker’s bet. :)

So I’ll sound completely selfish right here, but I’d do anything to get my Matt on that tour. If I have to get on my knees and beg to Nigel to get him on there, I’ll do it…

Oh, and I highly doubt they would bring back Jamie. Not only did he go the first week, he wasn’t even that good in his own style IMO (Mary actually voted for him to go over Matt, if I remember correctly, and Mary usually likes to keep her ballroom dancers).

Well that is awesome for Thayne lovers who were so sad. I am just glad I wont have to see that thmile up close on my tv set anymore, he couldnt help that I know but it was so annoying. I can watch him at a distance and concentrate on his dancing and let that go.

And Wfowfo – I know nothing of Roberts back story, never saw any previous segments on him. All I have to go on is what I saw recently and that was pretty amazing, so I will NOT take that bet with you because you are probably right.

I bet Comfort does hip hop with Joshua, since she danced with him in the auditions, didn’t she? Or they could do a group number with her and Joshua, Twitch and Gev, like they did with Sara, Hok and Dominic last year.

(I went to see the tour last year, and I really didn’t like Lacey, so I was kind of hoping she would still be out when I saw it, and she was! That’s why I remember the substitutes. Because I was keeping track of who did what when, and I really happy to see Jaimie in the Dead Daddy Dance, for example, and Anya in the samba. It’s not nice to be happy someone is injured, and I feel kind of bad that I was, so… Don’t yell at me. I already know.)

What I don’t get is why Nigel announced this like it was a big surprise. They did the same thing last year. Four alternates, I mean. Since they danced every night, they really didn’t operate like alternates, either. I mean, Anya had the fox trot with Danny and the smokin’ hot cha cha mix thing with Pasha every night, and Hok had the butterfly/hummingbird dance with Jaime and the b-boy number with Sara and Dom every night. Oh, well. It was a great show, and that’s what counts.

I didn’t like Lacey either, and I actually really missed her on the tour – she was out on my tour stop too. Her routines were really missing something with the other people dancing them, for me. For instance, I would have much rather seen Lacey do the Samba with Danny, even as much as I liked Anya.

I don’t know who else they’ll bring along, but yeah… this isn’t really a *new* thing. They have to have alternates (or “special guests” as they called them last year, since each one had at least one number that they did every show), for costume changes and in the case of injury, etc.

ETA: smartcookie – I think you’re right on with your prediction of a possible hiphop/popping routine with Comfort, Joshua, Gev, & Twitch.
