ETA: Russell Ferguson wins. I’m happy with that, although an Ellenore, Jakob or Kathryn (in that order) would have been alright with me. Whatever one might say about the pimping, or the fudging of his training for dramatic effect (no way a street dancer could even get past the audition choreography round without some training), I think Russell had some of the most exciting performances of the season.

His peeps back in his Roxbury neighborhood are celebrating for sure.

According to a tweet for SYTYCDism, there may not be a tour this year, due to the season’s low ratings. I really hope the show is moved back to summer. I think Nigel would like that. But FOX suits have said in interviews that the show’s presence on the schedule helped the network’s overall ratings. Season 7 auditions begin in January, in plenty of time for a summer season *fingers crossed*.

Russell Ferguson is America’s Favorite Dancer!VIDEO

  • 6th Place: Ryan DiLelloVIDEO
  • 5th Place: Ashleigh DiLelloVIDEO
  • 4th Place: Ellenore ScottVIDEO
  • 3rd Place: KathrynVIDEO
  • 2nd Place: Jakob Karr
  • 1st Place: Russell Ferguson

2nd Update: Lyndsey Parker is reporting that Russell is walking around, “In happier news, Russell is up and walking! He just came into the press room and everyone cheered.”

UPDATE: Russell is HURT. He’s limping, and wincing in pain. His leg is messed up. Will he make it til the end of the show?

Live Blog and Videos after the JUMP…

Tonight’s special guests: Jennifer Lopez, Mary J. Blige, Leona Lewis and Adam Lambert.

Group Dance begins with the Top 20, dressed in black patent leather and the girls in fishnet stockings.   It finishes with the Top 6 with the Top 20, featuring the Top 6 dressed in black and gold taking the stage.   Really good stuff from a new choreographer. – “Scared of Me (radio edit)” by Fedde le Grand feat. Mitch Crown   –   Choreography by Kelley Abbey from SYTYCD Australia! – VIDEO

Six judges on the panel tonight: Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy, Adam Shankman, Tyce Diorio, Lil C, Debbie Allen. Each picks a favorite routine to be reprised on the show.

Lil C picks: Kevin, Legacy and Russell Nappy/Tabs Hip Hop number from the “Meet the Top 20″ show. “Beggin (District 78 Remix) by Madcon.

Adam Shankman chooses another favorite: Jakob and Evelyn perform a Sonya Tayeh Jazz number. “Tore My Heart” by Oona and Dave Tweedie

Nigel Lythgoe name checks Sarah from Season1! Finally, he admits to having tappers on the show prior to Season 6. His favorite routine is the Tap routine from the “Meet the Top 20″ show. Go, Bianca, Peter and Phillip! Who could forget the 2 minutes you spent on the show? “Take the A Train” by Ella Fitzgerald

Mary has been dying to see married couple Ashleigh and Ryan dance in their own style, they perform a Jive they choreographed themselves! And it’s pretty kickin. “Straight to…#1″ (Duck’s Radio Mix)” by Touch and Go.

Leaona Lewis performs “I See You” the theme of the new movie “Avatar”. Oh, I get it now. Nifty Fox cross-promotion! WHOA PITCHY. And, what kind of crappy tuneless song is this? Yuck. – VIDEO

After the break, the Groovaloos perform some funky dance steps! – VIDEO

Nigel Lythgoe picks Desmond and Dwight’s contemporary routine for Kathryn and Jacob, set to “At This Moment” by Michael Buble.

Tyce Diorio picks a Nukul Bollywood for Nathan and Mollee. “Azeem O Shaan Shahenshah” Jodhaa Akbar (soundtrack)

Technical Difficulties! Cat’s mic cuts out…and now…OH NO. She calls out all six dancers, but only the girls come out. There’s some confusion, then the boys help Russell on to the stage. He’s hurt and in much pain. Ryan is eliminated. – VIDEO

Adam Lambert takes the stage to perform “Whataya Want From Me”. He’s dressed in a sharp grey suit, Elvis hair and what looks like…I dunno.. a boa? on his shoulder. Wow, he just did a cool vocal trill on “it’s me” that could have gone terribly wrong, but it was perfect. A stunning vocal, absolutely! Leona this is how you do it!

Now a little video retrospective of the entire season.

Back to the eliminations. Russell is sitting on a stool. Another is eliminated and it is…Ashleigh. She follows her husband out. – VIDEO

Adam Shankman picks another routine: Ellenore and Legacy dance a Travis Wall contemporary routine “Machine Gun” by Portishead.

Debbie Allen picks a routine: Noelle and Russell’s African Jazz (frog dance) by Sean Cheesman. Unfortunately, Russell is injured and can’t perform, so we’re watching the tape of the original performance instead.

More results: Ellenore is in 4th place. Boo. – VIDEO

Lil C chooses another routine: – The contemporary routine by Tyce Diorio from “Meet the Top 20″ featuring Arianna, Channing, Jakob and Nathan. It got a standing ovation!   “Crying” by K.D. Lange.

Mary chooses: The very recent (last night!) Kathryn and Russell Hip Hop by Napoleon and Tabitha. “I Can Transform Ya” by Chris Brown feat. Lil Wayne and Swizz Beat.

Mary J. Blige sings “I Am” – VIDEO

Nigel chooses:   Wade Robson group dance from the “Meet the Top 20″ show. This is the original routine with the original Top 20. Look, there’s Billy Bell!   Hope he’s feeling better… “Comanche” by The Revels

More eliminations: Kathryn leaves the competition in 3rd place. She gives a very touching tear-filled speech.

Jennifer Lopez is next. She’s got a brand-new routine for her hit “Loubitans” Hopefully, she won’t fall on her ass this time. OMG that was so cheesy! She’s “talking” to Santa on the phone. Plus, she’s not really singing. Plus: She’s got some her fav SYTYCD contestants performing with her. – VIDEO

The final elimination! Nigel says the winners are this program, dance and America! He calls Russell an unpolished diamond, Jakob a polished diamond.

A final look at Jakob and Russel’s best moments. Now the results…and

  • luval

The opening number…guyliner! black leather! fishnet stockings!…FYE??
    probably no such luck.

  • butte009

Choreographer Kelley Abbey from SYTYCD Australia! Too cool.

  • http://www.twitter.com/sarahruth3 Sarah

Can Kelley Abbey stay, please? Okthxbye.

  • Valentin432

The first two dances were great choices. If there was any HH I would have want to see back it was the meet the top 20 number.

  • butte009

They finally acknowledged tapper Sandra!!! Better late than never.

  • will

Six judges??? This show is going to run overtime.

This is the first time I’ve actually watched SYTYCD! And by “watched” I mean it’s playing with the sound off while I do other things, until Adam comes on.

  • kmra

sorry … i appreciate tap, but this number was boring the first time around … not much more exciting this time. and nigel just corrected himself re: tappers on the show. lol

  • mitchellvii

    I HATE tapdancing

  • mitchellvii

i always get nervous for adam even though I know he is the consummate pro.

  • Valentin432

Woohoo, great choice Mary. And goodbye for the married couple after that?

  • lorismile

I have no access to TV or PC tonight so please let me know how Adam does. I’ve never seen this show either. I was a toe ballerina so I really can’t wait to see the tap routine on youtube!

  • Kanadie Bonttell
  • KrazeeK120

Hey DWTS peeps!! SYTYCD has found you TWO more pros!! Ashleigh and Ryan are not only great performers, they are also great choreographers!! I’d love to see them on that show.

  • mitchellvii

wow adam gets to perform later than leona lewis

  • luval

pic looks like WWFM. that’s ok…love this song.

  • http://www.twitter.com/sarahruth3 Sarah

WTF is this crap song Leona’s singing?

  • mitchellvii

leona lewis has never done it for me personally. she sounds like so many other people.

  • YankeeFan08

Leona Lewis hit more bum notes than I can count! Wow, that was just all kinds of bad. She was flat more than she was on key.

  • will

The Avatar song that Leona is singing is written by the same guy who wrote “My Heart Will Go On.” Can you tell?

    Boy is she pitchy.

(Obviously I turned the sound up.)

  • luval

Leona Lewis is very pitchy…awful song…oops flat note at the end. Weak applause.

Adam I’m sure will NOT close the show…probably what’s her name…oh yeah j. lopez.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Mary’s choice…was that from vegas? The Auditions?

  • Valentin432

Mary’s choice’ ¦was that from vegas? The Auditions?

No, or at least it was not broadcasted. I thought it was cool that she let them do a complete new number.

  • SpenserJ

Hey DWTS peeps!! SYTYCD has found you TWO more pros!! Ashleigh and Ryan are not only great performers, they are also great choreographers!! I’d love to see them on that show.

    Amen sister!

Holy Crap that Avatar song sucks. But boy, my son is begging and pleading to go see that darn movie.

  • Valentin432

BTW Mj, it’s not Evelyn but Ellenore and it’s not Ashley but Ashleigh. Also it’s Sandra Colton not Sarah Colton.

  • sr4mjc

Ooh Leona, not good. Huge movie but that song was dull.

  • mitchellvii

    man these Groovalies suck

  • mitchellvii

leaona lewis just shows how so many singers right now rely upon auto-tuner. Adam is so spot on with his vocals people think he is lipsynching.

  • lorismile

Is Mary leaving the show or was that someone else?

  • bridget

This finale show is making me wish I’d had the patience to watch more of the season’s regualr shows.

(I love the dance numbers but for me toooo much time is spent on the judges often very extensive comments.)

  • clearone

OMG could Leona have been any worse? That was atrocious!!

  • mitchellvii

this whole show seems kinda lifeless to me for some reason.

  • luval

Mia Michaels is leaving the show.. Actually she hasn’t been on all season.

  • Kanadie Bonttell

    Gotta love live tv… :)

  • mitchellvii

    wow russel hurt bad freaky.

  • Miss Chaos

    WTF with Russell!!!

  • Valentin432

This season is so full of drama it’s really cursed.

  • Miss Chaos

AW Ryan the best partner is gone in 6th place.

  • luval

Pleeeeaaaasseee…no one trip!!! (no ninja rolls)…i love live tv

  • bridget

Yikes ! Russell hurt? (Shouldn’t he be icing his injury ASAP?)

  • butte009

    Awwww Ryan… one classy guy.

ETA: Is it karma that Russell is hurt now? just kidding…. I hope he didn’t have any more numbers planned in the next hour.

  • Truthiness

OMG could Leona have been any worse? That was atrocious!!

There could be sound issues where the performer can’t hear themselves. As I understand it, she was tugging her earpiece out, was she?

  • clearone

Oh my, how awful for Russell!

Adam, check your mic before you go on!

  • luval

I think Russell….bad leg and all…is gonna win

  • http://krisallenonline.blogspot.com/ kizgold

Awww my Russell, I hope he’s ok.

  • http://www.twitter.com/sarahruth3 Sarah

    Dear Other Finalists,

Just FYI – you were supposed to pull a Tonya Harding on Russell before he danced in the performance show, not on the results show! ;)

    Love,
    Sarah

Seriously though, I really hope he’s okay. Crazy crazy drama.

  • unique28v

I think Russell’ ¦.bad leg and all’ ¦is gonna win

I hope so!! I wonder if he hurt himself during his dance?

  • Truthiness

Adam, check your mic before you go on!

If he has time, I hope he can check his earpiece or the sound at all. Maybe it’s he up after commerical? I dunno, not good.

  • SpenserJ

AW Ryan the best partner is gone in 6th place.

And again, there he was holding someone else up. If I had just hurt my leg, let me just say that Ryan is indeed the man I want standing close by :) .

Seriously though, I hope Russell’s okay. He looked like he was in major pain.

ETA: Oh snap Sarah – that made me LMAO!

  • aislinn

Wow – poor Russell. I bet his injury is throwing the producers, as he’s probably due to dance again.

Ryan went out with class, and was the appropriate choice for #6.

  • Pam

My heart just sank when I saw Russell limping. How awful!

I hope so!! I wonder if he hurt himself during his dance?

That thought went through my mind.

Ryan is such a classy guy. awwwww

  • tls62

I feel bad for these musical performers when their sound isn’t right. It must be frustrating to know something might not be right but you can’t do anything about it.

  • terps

    ADAM

  • will

Yay he’s on! I’m already sick of this song! He just pulled his earpiece out!

  • mitchellvii

omg adam has a dead animal on his shoulder.

  • terps

Something is wrong with sound (Poor Leona), Adam just threw his ear piece out of his ear.

  • mitchellvii

man the sound system on this show sucks hardcore. no wonder leona sounded so lame.

  • http://www.twitter.com/sarahruth3 Sarah

Adam’s sounding great so far. I’m betting the difference is having his band right behind him. Was Leona singing to a backing track? I know there wasn’t a band on stage with her.

  • mmb

Ok adam I love you but why is there a dead animal on your shoulder?

  • luval

Glambert!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Black teardrop!!!!!! I am speechless…in a good way….Look at those eyes!!! THAT VOICE!!! Audience is screaming.

  • will

OMG check the eye makeup! What’s that thing on his shoulder???

  • Valentin432

I think their are major sound issues in the studio, Adam just has just thrown away his earpiece. It makes Leona’s problems more understandable.

  • spencer

looks more like a pile of dog poo!! who the hell dressed him tonight??

  • lorismile

Did he twist it or something? Can you imagine getting to the final only to get hurt.

  • luval

some ADAM AND TOMMY LOVE shoulder love!!!!!

  • aislinn

Loved that performance from Adam, but yeah, what the heck was that on his shoulder – great suit otherwise. I love the way he plays with the song a bit differently each time he performs it.

  • unique28v

    Adam sounded and looked great!

My mom stopped by my room and said, is that Adam? That sounds like him and I like that song. lol she likes this song a lot better than FYE. I like them both but I lean more towards FYE because its a dance song and I love to dance.

Ryan is extremely classy, and I’m feeling bad for Russell. I hope its nothing too serious.

  • Mainegal

    love the suit..the tie..the shoes… the hair..the tommy-love…what the f@ck was on his shoulder!

  • Valentin432

Is that their way to replace one of Russell’s repeat? I guess it is.

  • tls62

I was a little curious what was on his shoulder, BUT…..the interaction with Tommy totally made me forget about it.

  • kittensmittens

Add me to the list of people confused about the shoulder situation. Not to mention the white flaps on his ankles :? Guess he was in a Gaga mood.

Liked the black teardrop, though. And he sounded great!

  • Kanadie Bonttell

Now I am watching on my computer so the image was not great because of the live stream, but did Adam have on womens shoes???

    Most excellent job….visually and musically!

  • izzitme

Lets hope it’s just a sprain… Thank God if it was going to happen that it happened tonight instead of yesterday. If Russell doesn’t dance tonight so be it. It won’t effect the outcome. He danced his ass off when it mattered.

  • Mainegal

Fantastic!! way to make every WWFM new and excitinig!

  • butte009

Vocally Adam did a lot better than the AMAs. So good for him.

  • primetimemom

Gorgeous, pitch perfect performance from Adam!

  • bridgette12

I love the outfit, shoulder thing and all. I remember David Bowie wearing something similar years ago. The makeup is just WOW! The hair pure perfection. Plus, he sounded great.

  • clearone

Adam was awesome! Looked great. Sounded incredible! What was that thing on his shoulder?

    That suit was fabulous!!

  • iluvai

Finally! I get to see an Adam performance on t.v. and not on my computer. I held my breath the whole time and I loved it. I loved the vocal, the suit, the eye makeup, the band, all of it! :)

  • sleepinggiant

For me that’s the money look right there. OMG so elegant. GORG suit, shoes, shoulder thing, eye drop the whole NINE.

I was screaming in my house from the beginning but when I saw The Tommy Lean that was the icing on the cake.

  • schufly

lol with whatever the ef that was on his shoulder. Otherwise loved the look. And the Adam /Tommy love – woot. I think he was seriously teasing the network with that action. Loved it. Tommy and the rest of the band looked amazing. Overall great performance!!

  • Valentin432

Kathryn is dressed to perform the HH from last night, how is she going to do it with Russell’s knee? Apparently they are going to do the contemporary number with Jakob from the meet the top 20 show and the Legacy/Ellenore/Travis piece.

  • iluvai

Now I am watching on my computer so the image was not great, but did Adam have on womens shoes???

Those shoes have a special name, and I’m pretty sure they are men’s shoes. I loved those too!

  • conklas

Haha Adam was awesome. Dare I say best performance of WDWFM ever!!! I loved his look, it was so bizarre but totally perfect for the venue.

  • luval

Not really woman’s shoes but I think kinda 1920′s club…nod (love it when adam uses this word) to FYE. Almost a tap dancers’ shoe.Well even if it was a pile of poo on his shoulder, it was different! What a beautiful man.

  • HermeticallySealed

    Looked like spats to me.

  • SpenserJ

Adam ripped that ear piece out right quick didn’t he? Well, it worked. He sounded great, and all of the fanboys in the Spense household went apeshit.

Awe, Ashleigh’s a sweetie. I really enjoyed watching her.

  • luval

Yeah, spats….couldn’t think of the word…thanks hermeticallysealed

  • will

OK, now the only reason I’m going to stay tuned is to see J-Lo try to sing live, and stay on her feet.

  • movin2thabeet

Sorry guys but that was not a good performance by Adam. Leona managed even though it was not up to her usual level. And BTW, artists often take out their earpieces while on stage.

This show is tough. With the sound problems, the less than stellar vocal performances, and most especially, Russell’s injury. I’m sure he was scheduled to perform more pieces. I bet the producers are scrambling like crazy as we speak. I don’t know what they can do at this point to replace Russell’s dances. The best chance is if there are other well-rehearsed dances ready to go, but that seems like a very long shot. Should be interesting. Now a 2 hour show is a big problem. They have a whole hour to go with their top dancer out.

  • tls62

“Those shoes have a special name, and I’m pretty sure they are men’s shoes. I loved those too!”
    —————————————————————————————
Somebody on IDF shared a tweet earlier in the week from a friend of Adam’s (who was tweeting to Adam) about how she couldn’t wait to see his new high heeled boots. I’m guessing these are what she was talking about.

Talk about fashion forward….Adam’s workin’ it.

  • Miss Chaos

Did you see the smirk on Adams face when he walked away from Tommy? Oh the boy is a little tease, it just killed him to behave on the show!!!!Those shoes, I believe they are spats. And the makeup!!!!!!So awsome!!!Screams!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • adamlover

adam looked gorgeous and just out there. he sounded amazing..he just likes to change it up all the time…and i agree the tommy love was just a tease. he makes everthing new and interesting and keeps people guessing.

and the fact that his vocals are soo amazing makes it all ok.

what was that on his shoulder…and was he wearing spats?

    either way, i love him!!

  • aa618892

Oh Adam, you handsome devil you! Greeaat vocals, he immediately recognzed there was a problem and pulled the earpiece out. Boy sure likes to push the envelope and that shoulder tease with Tommy, LOL! I love the suit and makeup- you just never know what this guy is going to do. What an amazing performer!

  • Kanadie Bonttell

    Looked like spats to me.

    That’s it Spats!

  • dhunken

Loved the trill on the “it’s me” only problem is now I want a recording with that in it. He sounded amazing and I like the way he makes the song more dynamic each time. The crowd loved him!!!!

Oh and did anyone notice Kat saying what an amazing voice. The band was great too. Really a sharp looking group

  • izzitme

    What is WDWFM?

  • GaGaGlambert

Totally, totally an amazing performance by Adam. Vocal was flawless and differently nuanced, keeping it fresh, just like he did on tour. Loved the tear drop…inspired. Gotta go watch it again.,,,NOWWWWWWWW…

  • sleepinggiant

Guys show the shoulder thing some luhv…it’s the updated look from “dead fox on 1930′s woman’s shoulder” look.

But it’s just not a dead living thing (thank god).

Find me another guy willing to go there OMG LOVE THAT. I think I bruised my palm with a clenched fist I was so excited ha ha.

  • eclipse coming

OMG – When I looked up quickly, I thought it was an octopus on his shoulder . So far he is the star but I would love to hear him sing some of his other songs as well.

  • jammasta

Dammit Adam! Blowing up the comments page! LOL

I wanna see this, WWFM is my second favorite song on his album.

Ugh, I feel bad for Russell. Still hoping he wins it.

  • http://www.twitter.com/sarahruth3 Sarah

Awww, the African Jazz. I LOVED this dance. Too bad he’s hurt and they can’t perform it live. :( But at least they found a quick solution.

ETA: I have to say, I LOVED Ellenore on this show. This top 4 were actually my top 4 faves this season. Coming into last night, I loved them all equally. So based on last night, I’d say this is the right placement for her. Based on the whole season – I dunno. All 4 of them are really strong, so it’s kind of a draw for me.

  • DLee

What is WDWFM? = What do you want from me

  • http://www.irish-wolfhounds.com Buderschnookie

My first thought was “somebody died” and that is Adam’s version of a black armband to match the sad clown eye. Then I thought no, it’s a pet- I have a shoulder riding black cat that doesn’t look much different. Then I thought WTF I don’t know what it is but dayum he rocked it!
Even now he can leave me wondering what it is I just saw.

Yay vocals, yay Tommy action, yay fashion forward balls, he KILLED it!!
    Awesome job!! Just YUMMY!

  • DLee

I can’t wait to see it again.

  • kittensmittens

I Googled “spats,” then showed the picture I found to Mr. Kittensmittens. He said, “That’s what Scrooge McDuck wears.” LOL We are both children of the Ducktales era.

  • Lulu2

Hope mj will post video of Adam’s performance. Anyone got a youtube link?

  • jms

Adam totally killed it!! Loved he did the same high trill on “it’s me” again. Love that he’s looking more relaxed up there than he’s been on some of the other shows. His FABULOUSLY GLAM look!! Love the eyeliner w/the tear and the shoulder ruffle made the outfit. The shoes/spats? were perfect. And the Tommy interaction was total YAY!! Very happy fan tonight!

  • Miss Chaos

Ellenores close out song was Breathe, by Ryan Star, who toured with David Cooke. Its a beautiful song,

  • will

Hey maybe Adam will get to sing another song if they have to fill up time? Don’t you have “Music Again” ready to go Adam?

  • Pam

So far, the results are going to way I thought they would but all of the contestants so far have gone out very glassy tonight.

  • aislinn

Bah – I love the top 4, but Ellenore is fantastic, and deserves higher than 4th! The two dances she’s done tonight emphasize what a truly phenomenal dancer she is.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I’m going to create a new post for the Adam Lambert talk.

  • Planet Fierce

OM FREAKING GOD! He is just completely edible. From the top of his gorgeous hair to the tip of his high fashion toes just amazing. His make-up was perfection, the tear and those eyes looking right at you in the camera, so deliberate. He didn’t miss a note, a beat or any opportunity to sell his message. So, ahh, I am the first one to mention how well that suit fit? And in all the right places….OMG!

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

SYTYCD talk goes in this thread. Adam Lambert talk goes in the new thread.

  • butte009

SYTYCD talk goes in this thread. Adam Lambert talk goes in the new thread.

    Thanks MJ!

    I’m disappointed Ellenore was 4th. :(

  • iluvai

That’s so sad about Ellenore. I thought her dancing tonight was awesome. I really like how the judges are picking favorite routines. It’s interesting and fun.

That K.D. Lang song was really gorgeous. I’m not sure I ever matched the person to the voice before. It was also a pretty dance routine.

  • Anonymous

    Thanks DLee!

  • Anonymous

    Poor Russell. That sucks.

But glad that Ryan and Ashleigh got one ballroom number together finally. Thought is sucked that we didn’t get to have our Heidi/Benji Black Mambo and Salsa dance opportunity with Ryan/Ashleigh

  • http://www.twitter.com/sarahruth3 Sarah

SYTYCD talk goes in this thread. Adam Lambert talk goes in the new thread.

Thanks MJ! :) Did you see my tweet? Haha. I thought the site had crashed for a second, so I tweeted in frustration. LOL. Yay for hits though. ;)

I really don’t know who will win out of the top 3. They all had great nights last night. These next two eliminations should be pretty suspenseful.

ETA: Also, can I just say, I love Mary J Blige? She rocks.

  • movin2thabeet

So far the results follow my ranking. Many folks picked these final three. It will be interesting to see what happens from here. So they went with tapes for Russell’s pieces. Well, I guess what else could they do? Bummer for the other dancers though not to be able to perform with him in the finale.

  • iluvai

So there is only one winner right? They are all so talented and I hope they have fulfilling careers in front of them.

  • iluvai

But glad that Ryan and Ashleigh got one ballroom number together finally.

That was great! Maybe they’ll end up on Dancing With The Stars???

Don’t some of these finalists go on tour???

  • Valentin432

Why did they pick three dances from the meet the top 20 show, the contemp was beautifull but I really didn’t need to see it again. And altough the two dances from last night were great, they really didn’t need to repeat them only 24 hours later.
No dances for Jakob/Ashleigh, Ryan/Ellenore or Kathryn/Legacy? Big fail.

ETA; and now four, this is just ridiculous.

  • Pam

Don’t some of these finalists go on tour???

    Yes. The top 10.

  • iluvai

Mary J. Blige, also ditches the ear piece at the end!!! These poor singers.

  • unique28v

I love me some Mary J Blige but goodness does she get off pitch when she sings live.

So who’s winning tonight? I can either of the last three winning, but I have a feeling its between Jacob and Russell, but maybe Katherine will surprise me.

  • iluvai

    Yes. The top 10.

Well, that’s something to look forward to. My girls take dance for “fun”, and these dancers are just mind boggling! So talented.

  • unique28v

Mary J. Blige, also ditches the ear piece at the end!!! These poor singers.

yeah. Thats why some don’t sing live.

  • http://www.twitter.com/sarahruth3 Sarah

I feel bad for all of the other dancers, not getting to do this live. Surely, they could have just done it without Russell, unless they were already gonna do it this way, because of Billy.

Man, this season really has been crazy dramatic, huh?

ETA: Awww, Kathryn is adorable. After the “green mile” show, if someone told me that the fodder girl that no one had ever heard of, who also was kinda annoying with the whole crying thing would grow like she did and become one of my favorites and finish as the top placing girl, I would have laughed in their faces. But she really grew and stretched and proved how awesome she is. You go, girl with the annoying crying thing. ;)

  • Reflections On Life

I think ppl who love MJB also appreciate her off-pitch singing, she’s always been a pitchy singer, even when she debuted in the early ’90s… She’s the only mainstream singer out there who consistently hits me in the gut and moves me to tears every.single.time, and the off-pitch stuff only adds to the emotional intensity of the delivery. I know that sounds strange, but those who love MJB get it.

  • smartcookie

Did anybody see Russell get injured in the three-boy hip hop piece? Or did he fall backstage or something?

Yikes. He’s my favorite to win, so I hope it’s just a turned ankle or something not too scary.

So far, the boots have gone the way I predicted, although I think a lot of people thought it would be Ryan-Ashleigh, then Ellenore, then Kathryn. So no big kudos to me on that one. But Kathryn gets to be in Adam’s Oscar number, which is awesome. She deserves it. I love Ellenore, too, though, and I would’ve loved to see Russell and Ellenore on the Oscars. Maybe Adam will take the whole top four. They all deserve it.

  • unique28v

Yup! Its coming down to Jacob and Russell!!!

So these two will perform at the Oscars right?

  • gangreen29

Bullshit. I do not believe Kathryn came in third. They have been pimping Russell and Jakob as the best two so they wanted to set it up like that, but I firmly believe Kathryn came in second.

  • movin2thabeet

I’m not surprised. From what I could tell, all the excitement and powervoting was for Russell and Jakob.

  • http://www.irish-wolfhounds.com Buderschnookie

JLo is so not singing and doing it badly.
You’d think she’d be better at lipping it by now.

  • dhunken

J-Lo Lyp-syncing is away to go to avoid any pitch or technical issues.

  • iluvai

I think a lot of the singers have had trouble tonight with the sound. We’ll see how Jlo does.

Poor Kathryn! Another “off the charts” dancer. These finalists are so close they should have 1st, 2nd, 3rd… runners up with prizes.

I like how this show does eliminations though. It’s so much nicer than AI.

  • primetimemom

So obvious JLo is lip-syncing. I’d like to see how she does live ;-D

  • will

I don’t know why I thought J-Lo would be singing live. How silly of me. Well, it IS a dance show, so I won’t hold it against her.

  • http://www.twitter.com/sarahruth3 Sarah

Did Cat announce Kathryn’s elimination as “going out in third place?” I didn’t pay that close of attention.

  • movin2thabeet

I have a question. J Lo – lip synch much?

  • iluvai

I don’t know why I thought J-Lo would be singing live. How silly of me. Well, it IS a dance show, so I won’t hold it against her.

The dance number was good! She’s look great for a mom of babies.

  • smartcookie

RUSSELL WINS!!! My measly votes were not in vain!

I wonder why they only gave the top girl money that one season. (Katee got $50,000 for being the top girl — third place overall — in season 4.)

I think Kathryn should get some cash. Well, so should #2 and #4, for that matter.

  • iluvai

Congrats to Russell. Out of the top 2 I would have picked Jakob. Russell did grow a lot, but Jakob’s overall talent is tops in my book.

  • KrazeeK120

Did Cat announce Kathryn’s elimination as ‘going out in third place?’ I didn’t pay that close of attention.

I am almost positive Cat said something like, “In 3rd place is…Kathryn.”

  • butte009

I would have preferred Jakob but oh well…. Congrats to Russell.

  • jammasta

    OH GOD YES!

I just chose all 4 music reality show winners this year.

    So. Freaking. Happy. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Now it’s time for me to make a collage of Kris Allen, Jeanine Mason, Joe McElderry, and Russell Ferguson pictures.

  • iluvai

RUSSELL WINS!!! My measly votes were not in vain!

It’s nice when a favorite wins!

  • http://krisallenonline.blogspot.com/ kizgold

Yay 2 years in a row my fave won!!

  • soccerboi

Russell doesnt looks like he’s hurt now…huh? Jakob deserved it more…ugggh.

Im not sure why I ALWAYS pick the runners up in all of these shows. Seriously I think there is something going on with that.

  • jms

YES!!! Go Russell!!! I haven’t even watched this show before and I’m so happy for this guy I’ve got tears in my eyes. LOL

Fabulous bunch of dancers and great performances. Guess I’ll be tuning in next season. Anyone know when it starts again?

  • Pam

Congrats to Russell. He really did the show proud. Jacob is an exceptional dancer without a doubt. I think all 6 of them stand a chance at having great careers and that they are all winners. :)

  • s0x_prisoner

Ahhh darn I wanted Jakob to win…………… congrats Russell

  • Jx223

    Congratulations to Russell. :)

  • Mtlfan

my pick was Jakob, but congrats to Russell

jamasta…. you crack me up! :)

  • izzitme

I picked Jakob for the win as well but I am not at all disappointed with Russell winning.

  • Truthiness

Well I knew Russell would win. Just a feeling I got from the boards and given how likeable he seemed, yeah, knew he’d win an that Jakob would be top two.

  • movin2thabeet

Well, I’m not surprised. But I was rooting and voting for Jakob. I think he’s the superior dancer by far, but obviously not America’s favorite. Ce la vie. Congratulations to Russell. He was also great on the show.

On to the future – I’m looking forward to seeing Jakob in a company soon. No mention of the tour? Is it even happening?

  • butte009

Anyone know when it starts again?

The audition shows usually start airing in May. But if you can’t wait… the UK version starts in January. I haven’t heard when the Australian version starts but I think it was Feb/Mar last year. :)

  • pietromatos

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    JAKOB !!! You’re the Best !!!!!!!!!!

  • jpfan

My favorite almost never wins this show. So Jakob join Danny and Katee on my almost won list. The entire top 6 were wonderful and the top 4 were incredible so they all should do just fine.

  • JohnP

Lewis was magnificent performing a great song which wasn’t pitchy if you know the song. She sung it as it was written. Have you heard it before – I have many times and it grows on you? Wasn’t it nominated for a Golden Globe?

  • wand3rful

boooooo. guess possessing a goofy smile now equals having a personality. whateverz. he should’ve finished 3rd or 4th (behind ellenore).

  • http://www.twitter.com/sarahruth3 Sarah

Yay Russell!! I wonder if they gave him some kind of shot to help with the pain.

I love Jakob, too, and I voted for him last night – hometown boy and all. But I really was gonna be happy no matter what happened. They are different as night and day, but are both talented, and IMO, a deserving top 2. I liked Russell from the first time I saw him. Adam made some kind of comment last week about joy just radiating from him when he dances, and I totally agreed. THAT is what I love about Russell. I really do think TPTB just finally gave in and started pimping him the past couple weeks because they just couldn’t deny his popularity.

Honestly, for me, the whole top 6 were great! After this huge clusterfuck of a season, at least we seemed to end up with the right finalists.

And yeah. Jakob now joins the list of technically excellent dancers who finished 2nd – Travis, Danny, Brandon, and now Jakob. And to think – Russell is only 20, and Jakob is only 19! And Kathryn’s only 19, too. CRAZY. They all have such potential and should do well for themselves in the dance world.

  • Truthiness

And gee, I wonder if JLo lip synched?

    I just have no idea!

    Such. A. Mystery.

Oh and that song is stupid and sucks.

  • tierbee

Aw, jeez, poor Russell :( . Hope he’ll be ok. And YAY for Ryan Star’s “Breathe” for Ellenore’s goodbye package – I love that song :)

  • tierbee

I could really do without the J Lo shoe song… and the long-lasting Avatar commercial, lol. I’m happy for Russell – that was a great top 6, loved them. Adam sounded really good though it sorta looked like something pooped on his shoulder. Hee! But his voice sounded great.

Adam made some kind of comment last week about joy just radiating from him when he dances, and I totally agreed. THAT is what I love about Russell.

I think that’s what I love about Russell, too – he just exudes joy. And he has such a great smile :)

  • osounique

WOW!!! I’m so happy Russell won…YAAAY!!! lol @ how he jumped up out of that chair…despite being a lil injured. I don’t blame him….as I can only imagine how he must have felt at that very moment…pain and all. I loved Jakob as well…he is damn “bloody” good lol

So…..does this mean that Russell and Kathryn get to perform on the Oscars? Someone fill me in plz

  • will

Lewis was magnificent performing a great song which wasn’t pitchy if you know the song. She sung it as it was written. Have you heard it before ‘“ I have many times and it grows on you? Wasn’t it nominated for a Golden Globe?

Well I have heard that song before, and I beg to differ. There were some really bum notes. And yes it was nominated. It hasn’t grown on me yet though.

  • jpfan

Wow Jakob and Kathryn are only 19. I’m amazed. They both seem so much older especially Jakob.

  • gingerly

I just tuned into the show for the results. I was quite happy with them. I actually am not fond of ANY of the singers who were on so conveniently missed them. Ashleigh and Ryan going out 5th and 6th was fitting. I’d have rather seen Ellenore a bit higher than Kathryn. Honestly, either Jakob or Russell could have won and I’d have been just as happy. I love them both.

  • Reflections On Life

    isn’t eleanore also only 19?

  • movin2thabeet

Jakob now joins the list of technically excellent dancers who finished 2nd ‘“ Travis, Danny, Brandon, and now Jakob.

That’s what’s absolutely crazy about this show. You’d think I’d be used to it by now. At least the blow is somewhat softened. And it’s great to see that Jakob’s in excellent company. I do hope he has an incredible career in dance.

  • FolkFan

I’m very glad that Russell won. He really was the star of this season. I would have been happy with any of the top four winning, as they were all high quality, but Russell made me the happiest.

Very unfortunate that he was injured tonight—both because his joy at being on the show was a real highlight this year, and we lost that for a part of the show, and because we lost a number of live performances.

I thought that all three acts who sang live sounded off, with Mary J. Blige coming off about the best.

  • http://www.twitter.com/sarahruth3 Sarah

Oh, also, I guess next season’s story arc of Billy Bell should go as planned, since Jakob didn’t win. It would have been harder for Billy to win next season, if Jakob had won tonight. Too similar in style. Just like it was less likely that Kathryn would win, because she was the most similar in style to Jeanine.

  • TopCatDC

Anyone have the story on what actually happened to Russell? How did he get hurt? And why did was Cat’s mic go off at that exact moment? Coincidence?

  • iluvai

When does tour info come out???

  • osounique

Oh, thanks for posting the videos…and after watching again I must retract my comment about him jumping out of a “chair” as he was actually standing (with the help of Jakob) until she read the final result lol… whateva Russell smh anywho, Glad he won! Well Deserved!!!

  • wand3rful

yeah, jakob/ellenor/kathryn are only 19 , thats why i called major BS when the judges/fans tried to make excuses for Mollee, who is 18. those three possess so much more strength and maturity in their dancing, not to mention technical skill, no wonder they finished on top. crap, you know, i must admit, this yrs top 4 is probably the best ive ever seen. in terms of talents, personality and looks.

  • OhMyRawrrr

Well my 4 favorites made final 4 and Russell was a fave from the beginning so YAY! I’m 2 for 4 not bad: Danny, Joshua, Brandon, Russell – wow I just realized my fave’s always a black male – in any event, these 4 are such different guys. I guess my faves always come in at 1 or 2. Same thing on AI this past season ;)
CONGRATS RUSSELL!!! Jakob is such an amazing dancer – I would have been happy with him winning also. And Nathan, danced so beautifully. Wished he would have waited a year or two before competing – needs to mature a little.

  • smallwitch

I can never get you Americans. The best one never got what they deserved, like Adam, like Jakob. What a joke!!!! I can see Jakob was very nervous tonight through all his performances. I knew he wouldn’t win,I am very very sad for him. He never did wrong this whole season, and he has so many spectacular pieces at hand, but still, he wouldn’t win. tears for him….

  • glittergirl

I feel sick. JAKOB! You deserved to win, and I’m so, so sad that it didn’t happen. SICK, I feel. And I’m also unhappy that as the runner up, he didn’t get to say anything. Everybody else got their turn to speak, but not the best, most wonderful, most made-me-happy-every-single-week dancer, Jakob. =( If I weren’t so delirious and upset, I’d be weeping.

I have never gone or even considered going to see one of the SYTYCD tour performances, but I might have to change that in order to see Jakob. He’s too beautiful.

  • galfor

Um Leona was note perfect stunning pure power vocal!
Adam’s theatrical nonsense isnt in the same league!

  • crazedemcee

Ms. Lewis is vocals were superb… but the song doesn’t do her voice justice.

  • crazedemcee

Ms. Lewis’ vocals were superb… but the song doesn’t do her voice justice.

  • Sunshinegirl

Happy for Russell…he was my second fave. Still think Kathryn should’ve won, hands down. She hasn’t taken a wrong step this whole season! And it’s a travesty that she wasn’t even in the Top 2!

  • Sunshinegirl

This isn’t just about technique. Those brilliant technicians often lacked that spark of a true performer. That’s why Jeanine won last season. She had both the brilliant technique AND sparkling personality! I say the same for Russell now and would’ve said the same if Kathryn had won. Jakob is brilliant just like Brandon was but something was lacking. You can only be impressed for so long with jete after jete. I like watching Brandon and Jakob dance, but I am entranced by Jeanine, Kathryn, and Russell. Ya gotta have it all. That’s what wins this show.

  • Grammie Kari

The Finale was good. I understand Adam was sick. He still managed to do a good job.

The Season had many flaws. They were blessed with a talented group of dancers. Wish we would have seen more performances. The season was too rushed.

Although my choice didn’t win, Russell seems very happy. Hope his injury heals quickly.

  • Jurnee

I don’t know about Leona’s song. I’m a professional musician and I thought she was quite flat during her song. Adam had some of th same problems at the beginning until he took out the ear piece. Maybe the playback was off for them. I don’t think the Avatar song will ever grow on me. The thing is a musical mess, lacking any kind of a good hook or melody. The key changes don’t make musical sense and feels like swimming through molasses.
I thought MJB was amazing and Adam sang with a real depth of emotion.

  • http://stores.ebay.com/BookWomanBlues-Book-Nook Bobbi

SO happy about Russell’s win! He just made me happy with his performances this season and the growth he experienced was phenomenal. Really hope he isn’t hurt badly.

The top four this season were all fantastic. My only complaint is we were cheated out of so many performances because of the screwed up schedule. Does it strike anyone else as odd that the “finalists” were more than half of the top ten? Not a very exclusve finalist club! Oh well….I’m happy with the results. Just wish we could have seen more of them.

  • Portia11

I wanted Jakob to win, but congrats to Russell, he is great. This season
was a chopped up mess. Too many singers and too much tape in the
finale. And am waiting for the tour announcement……..

  • chessguy99

When does tour info come out???

I’m expecting late January/Early February, probably with a performance on the first AI result show. To close to the end of S6 tour and people are focused on the holidays, to start promoting the tour.

  • BootStar

Don’t have time to read through the entire thread but that show last night was a trainwreck. All the guests sounded like ass on my television, but it was clearly an issue with the sound because several of them were messing with earpieces.

So bummed for Jakob, but I have to be honest, I wondered if somebody in his family went all Tonya Harding on Russell. (Not really.) Somehow Russell recovered enough by the end to dance around though! Felt bad for all the top 20 singers who never got to perform (aside fromt the opening number). Kinda sucked!

I think that was the worst “season finale” I’ve ever seen on a reality show. (And WTF was Adam wearing on his shoulder? Way to ruin a gorgeous glen plaid suit, dude! My son thought it looked like fosselized dinosaur poop.)

  • J9BT

I have never gone or even considered going to see one of the SYTYCD tour performances, but I might have to change that in order to see Jakob. He’s too beautiful.

You have to go! I’ve been to the last 4 SYTYCD tours and they have all been fantastic, not to mention the dancers sign autographs and take pictures afterwards. I am definitely attending this season’s tour.

(And WTF was Adam wearing on his shoulder? Way to ruin a gorgeous glen plaid suit, dude! My son thought it looked like fosselized dinosaur poop.)

    LOL!

  • SpenserJ

I can never get you Americans.

Well, there are like 300 million of us. So, it’s hard to know what we’re all thinking at any one time :) .

Nigel said previously that there wouldn’t be a tour just for this season (which pisses me off, because these kids get screwed). I think he said that they would combine these contestants and the Top 10 on the next summer show for a tour. It was posted here on MJ’s somewhere a couple of weeks ago I think.

  • erennick

Wow. That just sucks! These kids really did get screwed. This season had the worst scheduling possible. Only 1x a week for the beginning and Vegas so we had no idea who they really were. Then, no voting for two weeks. Then, a Top 6 final in an hour no less. And now, NO TOUR.

  • J9BT

    YAY Russell!!!!

I found this link on the SYTYCD website. Hope it’s OK to post (and hasn’t been posted yet – sorry if it was). I was worried about Russell, but he seems OK, thankfully.

    http://www.youtube.com/user/Zap2itVideo#p/u/0/VTrTdUPiuY4

  • movin2thabeet

I just watched the video. What really jumped out to me was Russell didn’t mention another dancer, not once. When talking about how he was feeling when he got injured, it was all about him and his family, not all the other dancers who didn’t get a chance to dance because of it. When he was asked about the highlights of the show for him, it was all about his performances on the show. Not a peep about his partners or the community of dancers he just spent all this time with. I’m thinking he and his partners injuries is a consequence of this thinking.

  • sunchick

Oh, also, I guess next season’s story arc of Billy Bell should go as planned, since Jakob didn’t win.

Ha, that would figure, since Billy Bell didn’t do much for me.

So, congrats Russell. I’m happy for you and Ima let you finish jumping around….
    PSYCHE. Anyway….

    Dear Jakob,
Welcome to the cool kids’ club. 2nd is the new awesome.
    Love,
    Travis and Danny, founding members
Mark, Blake and Will, honorary inductees
P.S. Whachoo got against brilliant contemporary boyz, America? Do you hate awesome, as a rule? Is it the tight pants? It must be the tight pants.

Seriously though, Jakob was on fire last night every time he stepped on the stage. Fierce. Good for him. So was Ellenore. And yay for Ryan and Ashleigh’s latin! <3 Every season I love the hell out of this show, and then do not love the outcome. Because America generally sux at voting. Well, except for last season, when I didn't really love the hell out of the show, but loved the outcome. And the madness will start again next summer. Damn you Nigel and your manipulative fakey storylines that bug and your awesome dancers and your Wade and Sonya.

movin2thabeet I thought his reaction was off a bit, too. But I thought that might be the bitterpills talking. Watching the top routines of the season, I really think Russell won on the strength of being an engaging soloist rather than any of his partner pieces. And that Tore My Heart is the stand out of the season. I know they’re talking up Travis for an Emmy, and I love the kid, but I think this is Sonya’s year.

  • bmms

Congratulations to Russell. Although I wanted Jakob to win and I wish him the best on his career and all the other contestants as well. O.K. I really did not care for when Russ took off his shirt. It wasn’t a moment for that, IMO. I loved when he thanked God though, his parents, his girlfriend. I thought it was touching when he motioned to Kevin to join him on stage. I noticed when Kathryn was eliminated and the camera showed Legacy with a sad look on his face. Aw! They would make an adorable couple.

Adam was super hot. His voice was stupendous. I loved his attire and the eyeliner. I agree with MJ, his ‘it’s me’ portion of the song was perfect. I love this man and will always be a fan.

Loved Mary J Blige. I have always enjoyed her performances and love her songs.

The dance group ‘The Grooveloos’ or whatever were boring. My favorite dance group in Season 6 is… the group that performed the evening that Snoop Dogg performed. Now, THAT was a great dance group. Wow!

Whoemever commented that Leona’s vocals were ‘superb’ needs to hear that terrible song once again. Leona was offkey on most of her notes and she is kind of a ‘dead’ performer. Loved the dress though.

JLO was o.k. I was happy when she announced that she had included some of her favorite contestants from the show in her dance routine.

I also agree with the comments about that the Season 6 contestants will not tour until next year with the Season 7 contestants. UGH! This is completely unfair to the dancers of S6. They deserve and should have their own tour and not have to ‘share’ with any other group of dancers. Although, as I posted yesterday, Season 5 is my favorite so far. But, Season 6 had some wonderful, super talented, beautiful, eloquent dancers. What a shame on the awful and lousy schedule for this past season. I also agree with the comments about that this season was completely rushed and that the finale was meh. Last night’s finale was on a scale of 1 to 10, a 4, IMO.

  • glittergirl

Well said, movin2thabeet. I’m in total agreement with you. I have to say, Russell’s response to winning and his lack of acknowlegement of his fellow dancers was a real turn-off to me.

  • glittergirl

Sunchick, why insist that “America generally sux at voting” when so many people on this board alone – including yours truly – wanted Jakob (or Ellinore, or Kathryn) to win?

I’m definitely feelin’ you on this, though:

    “Dear Jakob,
Welcome to the cool kids’ club. 2nd is the new awesome.
    Love,
    Travis and Danny, founding members
Mark, Blake and Will, honorary inductees”

    YES!

  • borntorungirl

Jakob was my favorite so I’m just a tiny bit sad, but I also loved Russell. Actually the top 4 were all my favorites. Ellenore started the season as my favorite girl, but the last couple of weeks Kathryn moved ahead of her for me. Jakob you are amazing. I agree completely with Adam Shankman that you are the best dancer the show has ever seen. I LOVE to watch you dance! Russell I agree with Mary, you made the most progress I’ve ever seen on the show and you are a ray of sunshine! Good luck to all four!

I didn’t particularly enjoy any of the singing performances. I’d be fine if that part of the the finale would go away. I’d rather see dancers on a dance show.

  • sunchick

Sunchick, why insist that ‘America generally sux at voting’

Cuz it’s America’s favorite dancer? LOL Maybe I just suck at picking favorites, but it’s more fun to blame it on America. Check it…

    Season 1 favorite: Blake……Winner: Nick
Season 2 favorites: Travis and Natalie…….Winner: Benji
Season 3 favorites: Hok, Danny and Neil………Winner: Sabra
Season 4 favorites: Mark, Will and Chelsie……Winner: Joshua
Season 5 favorites: Ade, Pono and Jason…….Winner: Jeanine
Season 6 favorites: Jakob and Ellenore……Winner: Russell

  • wand3rful

Well said, movin2thabeet. I’m in total agreement with you. I have to say, Russell’s response to winning and his lack of acknowlegement of his fellow dancers was a real turn-off to me.

He’s a soloist, and sucks as a partner. in any dance he had this season where he had to actually work or interact w. his partner, he looked extremely uncomfortable. people raved about his afro jazz…yeah, all he did was trash his body around and move it to the beat. he could have done that performacne without Noelle. and thats what so annoying about the results, in the end, an ILLUSION of a personality wins over real personality AND talent (katyrn and jakob…even ellenore).

  • wand3rful

in the end, sometimes “cheese” and gimmics win over the real thing (jakob, danny, blake, travis, katee, kathryn, etc etc ).

  • Elspeth

Well said, movin2thabeet. I’m in total agreement with you. I have to say, Russell’s response to winning and his lack of acknowlegement of his fellow dancers was a real turn-off to me.

Point! You know Ryan helped him onto the stage as did Jakob and there was not even a word of thanks to either of them.

Sads not to see more of Karen or Victor except in the group dance.

  • J9BT

I think Russell totally deserved to win considering the show is designed to name “America’s Favorite Dancer” – not the most technically competent dancer or the dancer who is the most polished, points their toes the best, etc. Every time I watched Russell dance I was filled with joy and amazement. When I watched Jakob and Kathryn dance, I was filled with amazement, but not necessarily joy – something was lacking in the performance area for me with both of them.

These interviews are short snippets of things that Russell said last night. He started by giving Jakob a HUGE hug after the announcement that he won. He also thanked EVERYONE – and was looking toward the area where his fellow dancers were standing, along with the judges. He called one of his fellow dancers on stage with him and acknowledged him, thanked GOD, his parents and the judges.

Let’s keep in mind that Russell had to dance more than once without a designated partner given the injuries (partner injuries were NOT his fault, and he took responsibility for his own injury last night), and had chemistry and was in sync with both substitute partners when he had very little time to practice. I never saw a dance where Russell was out of sync with his partners, unlike most of the other dancers who received criticism throughout the season for lack of chemistry and not being in sync. There is no way Russell could be a terrible partner and stay in sync each and every dance. I never noticed any level of discomfort – in fact it appeared to be just the opposite to me – Russell looked very comfortable dancing with everyone, including the last minute substitute dancers.

Russell was the dancer who entertained America better than the rest, which is why he won. While I did vote some for Kathryn and think she and Jakob are technically exceptional dancers, Russell was by far my favorite.

I hope all of the S6 dancers get the opportunity to tour like the other 5 seasons. I will be among the first to buy tickets.

That was the worst finale of SYTYCD I have ever seen. Horrible singing going on and I agree, who needs to have singing – bring on more dancing. The winner – blech. I found him completely overrated and really did not enjoy watching him at all – he is not particularly attractive to me at all so no thanks. Jakob and Kathryn were robbed. I loved the graciousness of Ashleigh and Ryan. I was not an Ellenore fan but she was also wonderful in her comments – very classy.

    I

think Russell totally deserved to win considering the show is designed to name ‘America’s Favorite Dancer’ ‘“ not the most technically competent dancer or the dancer who is the most polished, points their toes the best, etc. Every time I watched Russell dance I was filled with joy and amazement. When I watched Jakob and Kathryn dance, I was filled with amazement, but not necessarily joy ‘“ something was lacking in the performance area for me with both of them.

Favorite Dancer hasn’t been a question since the fandom went wild when Russell was in the bottom three and almost got the boot. Since then it has beebuild the brand of Russell with nary a thing to earn it imho. But I do agree about Jakob. It wasn’t until the night before finale that I got the emotion I was looking for from him.

Let’s keep in mind that Russell had to dance more than once without a designated partner given the injuries (partner injuries were NOT his fault, and he took responsibility for his own injury last night), and had chemistry and was in sync with both substitute partners when he had very little time to practice.

Excuses. There was one for him every week. Instead of praising him for being in sync I would think that people would acknowledge the fact that he had professionals working with him half the time on stage. How many times have we seen people land in the bottom because their partner that week was not as popular/talented. Mollee, for instance really picked up her game after Nathan left but with him as partner she failed miserably. So Russell gets professionals and gets the limelight all to himself. How convenient for him.

There is no way Russell could be a terrible partner and stay in sync each and every dance. I never noticed any level of discomfort ‘“ in fact it appeared to be just the opposite to me ‘“ Russell looked very comfortable dancing with everyone, including the last minute substitute dancers.

Staying in sync is not all their is to being a partner. Both Ryan and Jakob knew how to balance letting their partners shine and and being present in the routine. The led when they were supposed to lead, too. Russell did not, imho. I believe all of the injuries surrounding Russell were an unfortunate coincidence so I don’t blame him for that.

Russell was the dancer who entertained America better than the rest, which is why he won.

By that reasoning Evan totally should have won last season.

I hope all of the S6 dancers get the opportunity to tour like the other 5 seasons. I will be among the first to buy tickets.

    Me too.

I loved the graciousness of Ashleigh and Ryan.

Once they stopped pimpimg each other and ogling their own bodies they were actually a joy to watch. I found them hard to stomach early on but they really grew on me.

He’s a soloist, and sucks as a partner. in any dance he had this season where he had to actually work or interact w. his partner, he looked extremely uncomfortable.

Russell is actually the first winner that I won’t be following his career. He was entertaining at times, but his reaction to winning was over-the-top. I didn’t experience the joy I normally do at the end of the show.

I had a crush on ego-man Ryan from the beginning. Everything turned out very well for the marrieds. For some resaon, I think Ryan might be a good partner for a celebrity on Dancing With the Stars. He is such a supportive partner, I just wonder what kind of a teacher he would be?

Interviews with the judges and all top 6 dancers.

I find Nigel’s comments to be right on point as to the reason why Russell won. Cat was clearly excited to see Russell win, and the other judges seem happy with the result too.

I think it’s wonderful that Russell plans to use his winnings to give back to the community. From the interviews with the Top 6, I think that Jakob and Kathryn’s personalities stand out the least, which probably explains their placement despite their technical abilities. I think the other Top 4 dancers have booming personalities.

It seems as though there are questions surrounding the next tour – possibly combined with Season 7? At least there are definite plans which is a relief, although it would be disappointing to have to split the time seeing two seasons of dancers – less time seeing each dancer.

I need to say (somewhere!) — one other form of dance that I find fascinating to watch and wish was performed on the show is true African dance. I tried it once and even though I had been dancing 6 nights a week at the time, 1/2 hour of a mini-class with the Burundi troup that was touring at the time (late ’80s) totally exhausted me. That thing where you curl your arms, torso, and head in on your waist and then fling them wide — then back in, then throw them back out to the stars, fast as the heart beats, as fast as the drum is beating?? — A while of that and I swear I lost pounds. A bunch of them. Personally I think it’s a fantastic dance form to watch and to do, and SYTYCD should feature a group number sometime (and I please not a hybridized version that doesn’t recall enough of its African roots).

As for the controversy, me, I danced ballroom/Latin for years; loved and identified with street dancing from the first time that I, backwoods hick, saw it; have loved Bollywood from first sight and golly is that hard to try to emulate. But I’m just not a big fan of contemporary (even less of a fan of tap, I apologize to the tappers because I love clogging, why the one and not the other? I’ve never understood). I will say that by far most of the contemporary I’ve ever enjoyed has been on SYTYCD, even though friends have dragged me to contemporary performances in the past. Maybe it’s just that the choreography is that much better on SYTYCD?

Anyway. I guess what I’m trying to say is, different strokes for different folks, so it’s really not a national disaster if I don’t vote the way you do. Everybody gets to vote. Jakob is clearly the most technically gifted dancer on the show that I can remember the 4 seasons I’ve watched, but we were told to vote for our favorites. He’s simply not my favorite, not even my favorite contemporary dancer. I was told I should vote for my favorite. I couldn’t vote for Legacy any more, so I voted for Russell. I admit I’m surprised he won, but I’d also like to think I would be able to congratulate any of the winners, even the ones that would have astonished me had they won. I wish Nathan and Mollee had both matured a little longer before trying out because they both have so much talent, but I would have congratulated either of them, too, had they won.

Anyway. We who voted for Russell as our favorite, seem to be perceived by some to have got it all wrong. How could we have? We all voted for our favorite dancers, all of us, you and me included. What makes a dancer your favorite is not guaranteed to be what makes a dancer my favorite. I guess I don’t understand why this seems hard to accept after multiple seasons.

radar3, I am not angry that Russell won. I don’t think that America “got it wrong”. What I find upsetting was that I knew from the moment that Russell was in the bottom three in the beginning and the outcry over it so early in the competition that he would win. I knew right then that he would get a pass for every so so performance. I knew right then that the judges were going to pimp him to the ends of the earth. For me it was the fact that the other dancers never stood a chance. There are front runners and there are wringers. I felt that Russell was a wringer.

So America couldn’t get it wrong. You like who you like and different strokes for different folks but at the same time a level playing field by the judges and choreographers (Mary crying over Russell, Sonya choreographing a who routine over Russell etc) would have eased my mind. Even the more gifted of the dancers couldn’t get praised. Victor, for instance, was an awesome dancer but somehow he had to give more than his best? How does that work exactly? Same for Jakob. And other people with shining personalities like Ellenore were actually critisized for it while Russell gets praised? I don’t mind Russell winning but since it was a forgone conclusion the over the top bias from the show really grates.

I was catching up on 48 hours’ worth of blog, so my comment wasn’t aimed at you, Elspeth. Nor was it aimed at any one person so much as the trend of some to bemoan that some of us don’t know how to vote.

And I don’t disagree with you that the judges behavior and influence is, well, disagreeable. Sometimes, especially this season when I had to work nights so much mid-week, I would Tivo a show and speed through the judges’ comments. Boy it was nicer that way, I got to not only form my own opinion but mull over it awhile too.

That’s why I, like so many, stopped enjoying figure skating as an Olympic sport back before there was Tivo.

I have to say — while I really like Mia’s choreography, I didn’t miss her presence on the show. By mid-season 5 I was calling it “The Mia Show” to the one other person I talk about the show with real-time — when Mia wasn’t performing behind the judges desk, the judges were fawning over her like crazy. I have no idea if things would ever become quite that bad with Sonya (she hasn’t been a judge), but it starting to become The Sonya Show this fall, and that’s just so sad when it’s those dancers who are competing and who worked so hard to get there and are fighting to stay on the show. It’s sad when they do all that only to one week have some other couple pull Sonya out of the hat and the dancer you’re rooting for pulls the quickstep, and you know the audience is going to Vote Sonya. The dancers are a lot more fair-minded about that than I am, I suspect, and I am glad for them that they are getting to dance with a variety of excellent choreographers. I like Sonya’s dances possibly even more than Mia’s, but it’s the dancers I want to watch compete; instead sometimes it seems like a Teacher’s Pet competition for choreographers.

RadarJ, your comments resonate with me very much, and you state them is such an articulate way as well.

I agree with every last word of what you wrote here. Every. Last. Word.

It especially grates on me when the judges feel the need to constantly praise choreographers’ works that are not deserving. (Eh-hem, cough, clear throat, Nappy Tabs.)
