Tonight, the So You Think You Can Dance premiere episode features the Los Angeles auditions. I’m going to include only the good stuff here, including a couple of auditioners you will recognize from previous seasons…

Mollee Gray – 18 – Upland CA – Mollee is from Utah and was a principal dancer in High School Musical 1 2 and 3. Nigel thinks she’s as cute as a bug in a rug, but that her personality does not come through in her dancing. I tend to agree–she’s got some nice technique, but she’s not very interesting. However, she does earn a ticket to Vegas – VIDEO.

A quick trio of contemporary dancers: David Hovhannisyan – 27 – Wauwatosa, WI, Amanda Kirby – 20 – Riverside, CA, Brandon Dumlao – 21 – Concord, CA – You’ll miss them if you blink once. All three earn a ticket to Vegas – VIDEO

Ryan Kasprzak and Bianca Revels – If you watched Season 5, you might remember these two. Ryan is the brother of Top 4 contestant Evan Kasprzak (they auditioned together) and Bianca is the tap dancer who said she’d never ever ever audition again after she was cut in Vegas. Ahem. During Bianca’s audition, Ryan is called to the stage and the two engage in a pretty hot tap off or “trade” and I daresay, Bianca won that one, handily. – VIDEO.

By the end of the first day, 9 other dancers make it through choreography to advance to Vegas…

Amber Williams – 18 – Yucaipa, CA – When she was about 10, Amber’s mom became paralyzed from the waist down after an operation went wrong. She’s been taking care of her ever since. Nigel tells her she’s a beautiful dancer, but lacks some charisma. Mary and Adam love her. She gets a ticket straight to Vegas – VIDEO.

Alexie Agdeppa – 25 – Rowland Heights, CA and Paula Van Oppen – 18 – North Hollywood, CA – quick glimpses of two contemporary dancers who make it to Vegas – VIDEO

Christina Santana – 23 – San Diego, CA – She’s a sassy salsa dancer, and she makes it to Vegas! VIDEO.

Phillip Attmore – 25 – Pasadena, CA – This is the tap dancer who will beat Ryan Kasprzak for a spot on the Top 20 (I predict). Watch for it. Three tap dancers were featured tonight–at least one will make the show. I bet it’s this guy. He is really good. – VIDEO

    Quite the underwhelming show tonight. Not a single BBoy/Girl or Hip Hop dancer or popper in all of LA? And only 1 salsa dancer? Not much in the way of video to post. So sad…. :(

    Yet we get to see 3 tap auditions (and Ryan dancing twice) WTF?

    And really irritating that they kept saying that they’ve never had a tapper in the Top 20. Sandra Colton from Season 1 may take offense. But then again the first season started with a Top 16 so I guess technically they are correct. Still annoying as all heck.

    I do remember Sandra, and she was a good dancer!

    I did see several tonight that have TOP 10 potential. I liked the last tap dancer, Phillip was on tour with Ryan in Fosse. Very talented and charismatic; hope he is sincere.

    For some reason, it just seems like it is too soon fo another SYTYCD show.

    I don’t know if I would say Bianca handily beat Ryan in the tap trade off but his solo was frigging spectacular. I actually did not think Ryan was all that last year but his solo audition I feel he was amazing. I was not as impressed with Phillip Attmore as some others were. He did well but something in his dancing was off putting for me. Loved his spilling of “gossip” on letting us all know of Ryan’s Smile tattoo on his butt. ( not sure if that was really his place to say) I am so looking forward to see Nathan Trasoras this year/season. Too bad Christina Santana’s tryout partner did not audition he was fantastic.

    It does seem too soon for another round, I sort of wish it had stayed in the summer but i’ll watch it whenever, I love the show.

    I liked Amber from what we saw last night and of the tappers Philip was my favorite.
    How many times is Nigel going to say ‘We’ve never had a tapper’? lmao Pretty sure they’ll be having one this season.

    How obvious was it that the ‘tap off’ thing was choreographed?
    Either they are getting more sloppy at setting things up or i’m just getting too old and cynical LOL

    A friend of mines daughter was at the Pheonix auditions, I caught a glimpse of her in the preview for next week so that was cool.

    Ugh… Looking at the spoilers makes me sad… because I bet they did the same thing… again this year.. (won’t say any specifics..in case you don’t like spoilers) Its just mean.. cause this dancer is amazing.

    Some of the people you mentioned are returning dancers from season 5. Amanda Kirby, who had her audition shown last year and made it pretty far in Vegas. Brandon Dumlao, who wasn’t shown much but was background in a lot of Vegas last year. Also Sammy Ramirez, the pop locker who did the hair choreography last season and made it deep into Vegas, was shown in a crowd shot. I would presume he was passed to the next round and might factor in prominently this season.

    Tapping doesn’t really move me, but Ryan, Bianca, and Philip all seem like potentially entertaining and probably very capable dancers.

    Also, thanks for properly marking spoilers, I hate being spoilered:).

    Paula Van Oppen looks like a combination of Katee Sheen and Lauren Gottlieb, so, um, I hope she makes it this year. It’s just nice to have that on my TV.

    I danced with Phillip Attmore at LACHSA for four years in ballet classes and I can say that he is the most genuine and sweet guy. He was sincere in his answers and was not “acting” for the show. I support him on the show 100% and I hope he makes the top twenty! And as far as “his place” talking about the ryan’s tatoo, I bet Ryan LOVED the exposure!
