So You Think You Can Dance Announces Premiere Date

The summer dance competition, So You Think You Can Dance, has a premiere date. The show, produced and created by Idol producer, Nigel Lythgoe will premiere on Tuesday May 14.

That date is earlier than usual. Will American Idol still be airing on Wednesday and Thursday? And will SYTYCD remain on Tuesdays?

Interestingly, Glee is set to air its season finale on May 9. That week is where Idol would end its season if there was actually a Top 10 with no wildcards, as Nigel promised in a satellite conference call he participated in a few months ago. Hm.

At any rate, So You Think You Can Dance will hold to a once a week schedule, combining the performances and eliminations into one mega show. Joining Nigel and Mary Murphy on the judges panel for the audition round will be guests Minnie Driver, Stephen “tWitch” Boss, and Adam Shankman.

So looking forward to it again, although a return to the twice a week schedule would have been much preferred.  The change kind of disrupted the rhythm of the show for me.  Love that Twitch will be included on the judging panel during auditions!  He is just so talented, and seems to be a really good guy.  Plus, I think that he’s had a fair bit of diversity in what he’s been involved in since his season, which should prove very beneficial in assessing the potential of the dancers who audition.  I’m glad we have a date to look forward to!

I really wish SYTYCD would look into hiring the person who choreographs Bunheads.  They do a great job.  Their choreography is innovative and really good.

Glad that they’re starting two weeks earlier than normal. That, coupled with the lack of three weeks off like last season, should hopefully make the format run smoother. I’m sick of double eliminations.
