Update: Posted Allison Iraheta Video! After the jump

Billy Bell and Jose Ruiz are eliminated. - VIDEO.

  • Group Dance – VIDEO
  • Jose’s solo – VIDEO
  • Billy and Lauren’s solos – VIDEO
  • Step-up 3d w Lil C and Tony BellissimoVIDEO

Man. I was not alright with those results.  Adechike was safe once again this week, and it’s hard for me to wrap my head around his appeal.  Sure, he’s a very strong dancer, but he’s got no finesse or personality.  If America has rejected Billy because of his “androgyny” as Nigel suggested tonight, I find that really sad.  I think he’s more appealing and a better technical dancer than both Adechike and Robert. That solo tonight was just STUNNING. Sigh.

Lauren is the only girl, so she wasn’t going anywhere, and that was that. I’m actually not bummed she advanced.  I would have rather seen either Robert or Adechike in the bottom instead of her. If that had happened, Billy might have been spared.

After the jump, my Live blog and a Video of the performance by Allison Iraheta

Tonight two dancers go home. Plus, Allison Iraheta sings “Don’t Waste the Pretty”  with Orianthi on guitar!  Stay tuned…

Group number: “Every Little Thing She Does is Magic” by Sting – Choreography by Mia Michaels – Wow I’m DIGGING this rountine. I want Mia back as choreographer! VIDEO

Although Lauren Froderman did not dance in the group number, she is FINE says Cat. Hooray!  Toni Redpath is back on the judges’ panel tonight.

Prizes: A quarter of a million dollars. PLUS. Gatorade is recognizing dance as a sport. The winner will be part of the Gatorade print campaign in the fall. SWEET.

Time for results:

Jose Ruiz and Kent Boyd take the stage who is safe and who is in danger?  Jose is in danger and Kent is safe. DUH. Buh bye Jose!

After the break, Billy Bell and Adechike Tolbert take the stage…  Ha ha..what the hell is Billy wearing?  AND WHAT THE HELL…BILLY IS IN DANGER???  Adechike is safe.

Lauren Froderman and Robert Roldan are last.  Robert is safe, Lauren is safe. BYE BYE BILLY! Sniff.

Step up 3D hits movie theaters this summer. It’s produced by Adam Shankman and directed by John Chu. Season 5′s Tony Belissimo, and Lil C are part of the Step Up 3D dancers…

After the break…Cat pimps the upcoming tour and then…it’s some dude whose name I did not catch. And he sucks. Bring on Allison! Wow. That was truly wretched.

Now, Cat pimps National Dance Day, which takes place Saturday July 31. Get out there and get your boogie on!

The B3 Dance for their lives: Jose is up first,

After the break, it’s Billy. I can’t believe he’s going home tonight. Dang. And now it’s Lauren dancing to “Let’s Get it On” by Marvin Gaye.

The judges go backstage to deliberate and FINALLY!!!! It’s Allison Iraheta singing “Don’t Waste the Pretty” with Orianthi on guitar. That was BAD ASS.

Results time. The choice is unanimous. Nigel says it’s the toughest decision he’s every had to make. This week is the last week the judges’ choose. Jose steps up first. Nigel says he’s learned a lot in a short period of time. Billy is next. Nigel notes that Billy has been in the bottom 3 a lot, and that maybe his androgynous style is not connecting with the audience, but it is with choreographers and dancers. Lauren is next. Nigel tells her she’s safe. Billy and Jose are out.

Safe:

  • Kent Boyd
  • Adechike Tolbert
  • Robert Roldan

In Danger:

  • Jose Ruiz
  • Billy Bell
  • Lauren Froderman

Loved that group number. Mia’s uneven as a judge, but I do love her choreography.

My stomach is in knots. Jose needs to go, but who’s the other one going to be?

  • Valentin432

Billy’s outfit has me intrigued about his solo tonight but I don’t think he would need to dance it.

  • sunchick

Gatorade? Yeah, somehow I don’t think Billy is what they have in mind. Interesting.

  • Valentin432

Wow, I didn’t see this coming, Adechike fanbase is much bigger than I thought

  • HermeticallySealed

WTF? Billy is a hundred times better than Adechike.

  • aislinn

Dammit! So there’s the reviews side by side – Billy clearly did better than AdeChike, yet here he is in the bottom 3.

  • doggiedr

    That blows.

..and with Lauren in the bottom Billy is toast.

    Dammit.

  • soccerboi

Are you freakin kiddin me? WHO IS VOTING FOR ADECHIKE? WHO? URGGGHHHHHH!

  • soccerboi

WTF? Billy is a hundred times better than Adechike.

    A million times better.

  • sunchick

UGG. America, you suck. So hard. I seriously do not get the appeal of Kent and Adechike. But they sure are perfect for a Gatorade add, aren’t they? WIth their athletic dance styles. *rolls eyes*

  • cheese

I like Billy AND Adechike more than I like Robert, Kent and Jose. I guess Billy and Jose are toast tonight.

    ETA: UGH.

  • aislinn

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • soccerboi

C’mon people. Lauren in the bottom 3? Really?

  • Valentin432

Lauren is B3? That’s so much BS.
    Billy and Jose are screwed

  • clearone

OMG ……… that about sums it up. See you later Billy because there is no way in hell they’ll send Lauren home. That said I’m thrilled Robert is safe!

  • Truthiness

Yep, Adechicke isn’t going anywhere ugh. I think Billy is a much better dancer than him, and out danced him by FAR last week.

Nigel is probably going to take this opportunity to get rid of Billy, because no WAY is he getting rid of Lauren.

    pfft to the voting public.

  • dhunken

I can’t believe Billy is again in the bottom 3. This is crazy? What the hell did people think he was safe so the voted for others….What Lauren in bottom 3 too….wait a sec is this there way of making sure the Jose goes this week as Lauren and Billy gave the best performance last night. I just don’t see why Adecheke and Robert are saved. They just don’t do it for me and if there is any kind of disconnect it is from them that I feel it. I am just so out of sync with America this season. Hopefully its Jose who goes home but you never know? :-(

Oh thats right is two people who are going home. So Billy and Jose are going…Lauren deserves to stay IMHO and I love Billy but Lauren has been more consistent and she is the only girl. Sucks because Billy and Laure should not have been in the Bottom 3 at all IMHO

Truthiness ITA Pfttt to the voting public

  • aislinn

OK, I don’t know why I had any more hope for the American public with this show than I had with Idol – clearly they are beyond any hope or taste.

  • sunchick

WTF???? I’m happy for Robert, but he should have been safe with Billy and Lauren. How about voting on the actual dancing, eh? Sigh.

  • wrigley

Oh, for pity’s sake. Billy is toast. They won’t send Lauren home. This is the first time I have watched SYTYCD every week. It’s ten times more frustrating than idol and I didn’t think that was remotely possible. Kent must be doing internal backflips.

  • doggiedr

    Way to steal Allison’s hair.

  • blkeener

Well, there is no way that Lauren is going home. They’ve practically crowned her 2nd. Crap. I love Billy. Why…why…why!?

  • kiss kiss

    YAY Adechike!

Billy should have been gone a week ago, imo. I think the bottom 3 is correct.

I’ll laugh for days if they save Jose again.

  • cheese

I guess the order of finishing doesn’t matter because OMG KENT!, but still, I’d love to see Billy for one more week. If it were Robert, Jose and Lauren in the bottom 3, Nigel would just change the rules again and send Jose home alone.

  • doggiedr

Can’t believe I wanted two (three?) years for Alex Wong and one year for Billy Bell and neither of them will be in the finals.
    Bad, bad, bad.

So who is this pud singing?

  • Truthiness

I’m still just so peeved that Robert is safe? Ugh! and Adechicke, double ugh! and Billly is in danger? Triple ugh! And Lauren in the B3? Quad ugh! And Lauren’s being in the B3 means that Billy goes home over ugh Robert and ugh Adechicke.

pffft all the way around. I just hope that Project Runway judging doesn’t piss me off on top of this.

  • HermeticallySealed

Honestly, I hope they do send Lauren home. I know they won’t, but there has always been a certain spark missing from her routines. She’s good, just never got any soul out of her performance.

  • dhunken

Well my favorites are going like hot cakes first Alex now most likely Billy If Lauren goes and they save Jose I will hold my breath until I turn blue…I swear I will… :-( God Billy was so amazing this week. I disagree that he deserved to go home. Jose deserved to go home last week not Billy. IMHO. This show is getting as bad as Idol infact worse because in had so much promise and now they are destroying their dancers one by one and getting rid of the good ones

  • Ratna12

Noooo, Lauren in the bottom three , are you kidding me ?
Next week I have to vote even harder for her than yesterday.

  • cheese

The Horror! What is this? Allison is going to sound like a freakin’ genius next to this …

  • aislinn

Watching Billy’s performances from last night and AdeChike’s, there is no comparison – Billy inhabited his characters, danced with skill and abandon, and outperformed AdeChike by miles. I hate that these shows are more about being popularity contests than merit. Ah well, Billy is going to be fine – I hope he follows in Travis’ footprints, and tries his hand at choreography as well as dancing.

Ha, I know right? This could have been a spectacular season of brilliance vs. brilliance where I’d be happy with either winner, but Alex went down with an injury, and then for some reason America embraced Mayor McCheese and The Ladies’ Man. I suppose Kent and Adechike will be the final two, and it will be the first season I didn’t enjoy the winner OR the runner up.

Billy and Robert outshine Adechike, Lauren and the retarded kid Kent by planets, let alone miles.

LMAO. Oh, man, that’s too much. (I agree, mostly.)

  • http://americanidolreportcard.com jeffreychrist

What a farce. I would be STUNNED if they kept Billy – easily the best dancer this season. Of COURSE he deserves to stay, but with Lauren the only girl left, they’re not letting her go, despite the absolute fact that she’s the most overrated dancer of the season.
It’s sad that this show stoops to “America’s Favorite Dancer” instead of its “Best”. Billy and Robert outshine Adechike, Lauren and the retarded kid Kent by planets, let alone miles.

  • clearone

That was singing? Good God that was horrible!

  • Miss Chaos

Bye Jose I love you, keep smiling!!!

ITA, but I’m resigned to the fact that America’s favorite is not selected on merit.

Lauren has shown much more versatility than Billy and she is a very strong contemporary dancer.
Billy has had two good weeks and several underwhelming ones.
    No contest IMO

  • clearone

Allison get that hair out of your face ………

  • weelassie

    ok,
just got home and am stunned. LoFro in the bottom 3 oh pleeze come on. she is miles better than robert and jose. this sucks because billy will probably go home and he doesn’t deserve it. Billy should be at least top 4. adechike is not in the same league as billy, nor is robert in my opinion. this blows chunks.

  • soccerboi

    SIng it Allison!!!!!

    Love

  • funshine

ugh, I’m glad I haven’t been watching this season closely. I’ve only watched a few performances here and there, but clearly Billy’s consistently being in the bottom 3 shows how warped the show has become.

HermeticallySealed: I agree about Lauren. I watched a few of her dances b/c of all the fuss surrounding “the only girl left” and she is basically “almost as good as” Allison Holker but without the soul. She and Allison have both danced solos to “You make me feel like a natural woman” and I was so underwhelmed by Lauren’s version. if the judges had any integrity at all they’d keep Billy over Lauren, b/c Billy is clearly the superior dancer.

  • HermeticallySealed

I never really saw her as more versatile, just sloppy. Better than some, but she just always comes off as half assed to me. To each their own though.

  • weelassie

i would love to see more of allison’s face. :)

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

    Allison is awesome. :-)

  • HermeticallySealed

    What a stupid decision.

  • Valentin432

    Wrong B3, right decision.

  • aislinn

Well, it’s obvious they had this planned before the show ever started. They wouldn’t have such a seamlessly edited, combined exit package within the time the judges went back to “deliberate” I’m not suggesting that lauren should have been sent home, but I really don’t think Billy should have gone home before robert or adechike, and I think the judges already had it in mind to send billy home after last week.

  • funshine

Not the right decision, but the expected one to appease the masses (and Nigel).

Given the disparity between Billy and Jose’s dancing abilities, it’s very ironic they are both being eliminated the same night…

  • sr4mjc

The androgynous style isn’t why America is liking Billy? Nigel can be such an ass.

    Billy was amazing.

The sound was a little messed up but Alli was good!

  • HermeticallySealed

Well, it’s well known how Nigel feels about “androgynous” people.

  • Crayonas

LOL This is offensive. They just kept Lauren because she’s a woman. Well, I guess the good news is that I don’t have to keep watching this terrible season anymore.

  • marta

I’m done with the show too. Nigel’s machinations led to this. I actually was only watching for Billy at this point. The other dancers are good, but none, in my opinion, are in Billy’s (or Alex’s) league.

  • Valentin432

They just kept Lauren because she’s a woman.

Yeah, also the fact that it was, I don’t know, Billy’s fourth time and her first? It sure seems very unfair.

  • HermeticallySealed

I thought the point of the judges making a final decision was to rectify when bad voting is evident, not enforce it? Meh, not really worth getting upset over. It’s not like any of us have an investment in any of their futures (well, I don’t at least, not unless I get really rich, really soon).

  • alonzo7

It was a foregone conclusion that Billy and Jose were going home from all of Nigels comments. This is America’s Favorite Dancer and lots of times the popular choice tends to be really personalble with good dancing skills as opposed to seriously excellent skills as evidenced by Billy leaving.
The popular winner will be Kent.
I can’t see Robert or Adechike winning but I didn’t see Adechike making top 4 either so who knows!!
I so miss Alex who had the superior skills and would have deserved to win.

  • Kiska12

I am very disappointed. I love Billy and would really miss seeing him dance.

  • SpenserJ

Yeah, also the fact that it was, I don’t know, Billy’s fourth time and her first? It sure seems very unfair.

LOL. I think they finally just let Billy go, because they realized that America simply wasn’t going to vote for him. He’d most likely have gone home next week when the judges could no longer save him anyway.

A TV talent show is not a true test of Billy’s skills as a dancer. He’s got fabulous technique. For whatever reason, the viewers just weren’t that into him.

I’m happy Lauren stayed. She’s my only horse left in this race.

PLUS. Gatorade is recognizing dance as a sport. The winner will be part of the Gatorade print campaign in the fall. SWEET.

Considering that professional dancers are in better shape and more conditioned than half of the people in those ads, I’d say it’s about freakin’ time :) .

  • HermeticallySealed

The popular winner will be Kent.

I wouldn’t have a problem with that, honestly. At least he has the skills to back it up, though I think a year of getting past his youthful naivety would do him some good.

  • sunchick

The popular winner will be Kent.

*shakes fist at heavens* UGG. And I predicted it after the meet the dancers show. He’s Benji all over again. I’m breaking up wiff u, America.

  • smeggingnuts

    Nooooooo Billy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :’(

  • Tabithillie

I hate America. I hate the judges for their blatant favoritism and sexism. Especially Nigel for his gross habit of manipulating ignorant voters.

The only reason Lauren stayed was because she’s a girl. I mean She deserves to stay, but not more than Billy.

Billy was, is, and always will be so much better than her. He explored parts of dance that most guys would cringe at the thought of. He is going to be so successful in his dance career. He is my favorite to watch in the competition. It won’t be nearly as exciting without him.

I guess now I have to vote my fingers off for Kent and Lauren because I don’t want Robert OR Adechike to win. I’m upset that one of them will be in the finale as it is.

  • Truthiness

I agree, right decision with the wrong B3. But still sucky AND the judging on Project Runway also really pissed me off.

So I’m having a very grrrr reality show day.

  • funshine

watching jeanine’s tango solo from season 5 cheered me up. At least that season, one of the best dancers (and most personable) won.

  • SpenserJ

Especially Nigel for his gross habit of manipulating ignorant voters.

Well, but, some of the voters weren’t manipulated by Nigel. For some, Billy just didn’t connect with them. And, some of us are not ignorant about the ways of dance :) .

He is going to be so successful in his dance career.

I agree that Billy has all of the tools necessary for a long and successful career in dance.

  • kat16425

For people wondering who votes for AdeChike, I do because he’s a great dancer and I’m really happy he is in the top 4.

  • Tabithillie

I didn’t mean that everyone who didn’t like Billy was ignorant. I meant that Nigel took advantage a certain group of people that were gullible. I understand that personal preference does vary pretty greatly. Its just a frustrating situation and I was venting.

  • leome

It was time for Billy to go. Obviously the audience wasn’t connecting him with him. I think it was the right decision.

  • jpfan

Aside from Janelle (I can’t remember her season that well), the best dancer has never won this show. Never ever. They usually give it to the most improved camper.

  • cassie87

Wow, I’m really, really disappointed. Well, I got my way on AI, guess it couldn’t happen twice. I think Billy really deserved to be at least top 3, but I knew they wouldn’t send Lauren home. I do like all the dancers, so I’ll still watch, but I definitely won’t enjoy it as much. My top 3 prediction is in this order 1. Kent 2. Lauren 3. Adechike. But I wish Billy was in there:(

  • sma11ie

Yeah, in all 7 seasons, Jeanine is the one winner I think America got right. The only one. So I’m not surprised. Disappointed, but not surprised.

In happier news, Mia’s Allison In Wonderland was everything.

Ditto on the above. I blame me for Lauren being in the B3 because I apparently fell asleep on the couch at some point during the voting hours. :-(

Thinking ahead to next week, sadly, I think that Robert could get most of Billy’s votes, which will leave Lauren out in the cold. I really want her to be in the finale because I think she’s the total package this season.

I was greatly anticipating Allison’s DWTP performance, and turned the volume WAY UP on my TV to get into the groove. But something was lacking in her performance to me. I didn’t like that her hair was covering her eyes because I think her face is cute and hiding her eyes takes so much away from her overall performance. I also didn’t like that she seemed to be showcasing Orianthi. I know Orianthi has some mad guitar skills, but it seemed like Allison was either behind her or practically on top of her when she should have been out front taking the lead role. Even my daughter who loves Allison said it would have been better if she did “D is for Dangerous” and Orianthi weren’t there. Hopefully she gets a boost from the performance anyway, but honestly, I was disappointed.

LOL. I find the suggestion that Lauren was kept only because she’s a woman offensive, especially since I think she’s is the best overall dancer/performer left in the competition and it was her first trip all season to the B3. Thankfully the judges made the right decision so I will keep watching the rest of the season. :-)

Do you mean Jeannine from S5? There was no winner named Janelle.

I guess it’s all a matter of opinion who is the best dancer. I feel the best dancer has won several times – Joshua from S4 and Russell from S6 are two of my all time favorites from the show. During S5 I felt Brandon was the better dancer, but Jeannine’s personality came across more.

  • BootStar

No Alex, no Billy. Why even watch at this point? I couldn’t care less how it ends.

  • J9BT

OMG – Nigel is tweeting and retweeting people about the androgynous comment.

dizzyfeet: RT @megkt16:what’s with the androgynous comment, homophobia is ignorance. [describing one's dance style as androgynous is not homophobic.]

dizzyfeet: RT @GeekyJules @dizzyfeet I find it oddly amusing that people call you homophobic. Do they not pay attention to who you have as a judge and choreographers?

dizzyfeet: @GeekyJules no of course not. It’s an easy label to paste on anybody who strives to have their male dancers be strong and masculine.

dizzyfeet: RT @cre8tiveguru: @dizzyfeet no, but using androgyny as a reason/excuse for voting someone off IS homophobic. U didn’t listen or understand!

  • J9BT

Another tweet from Nigel which is interesting.

dizzyfeet The vote was 68% up this week. The difference between first place and second place was 1.17% there’s no guaranteed winner. The game’s afoot

I’m guessing that Kent & Adechike were the Top 2 since neither have ever been in the B3, while Robert has been multiple times. I also wonder if there will be exponentially more votes next week since Nigel announced the results will be solely based on America’s votes. I do know people who think it’s useless to vote as long as the judges make the final decision. The question is – who gets Billy’s votes? Maybe no one? Or Robert? Somehow I don’t think it’s Kent, Adechike or Lauren but maybe I’m wrong. And who gets Jose’s votes? That’s a tougher call.

Dear Billy, we will always have Bollywood… I’m gonna miss you so much…but you will be good… you gonna be a star!!!!!

Dear America, I don’t like you tonight… let Canada vote!!!!

  • Jae

I vote for Adechike too. I love his dancing. Especially when he does his solos. He is a strong, graceful masculine dancer. I love his strength and how he uses his body. Billy killed me the other night with that dance he did with Ade, and I like the way he moves sometimes but over all, he doesn’t have the strength to his moves like Alex did or Kent or Adechike. Robert I only like in his solos and maybe 2 dances. I liked that African Jazz dance he did early on and the Bollywood. I love Lauren. I think he second dance got her in the bottom three. It just wasn’t spectacular. And I love Kent. I want him to win. He and Lauren have been my faves from day 1. I am ok with either of them 1&2.

Billy is fabulous and I am disappointed he is gone from the show.

How can you trust anything Nigel “Who Am I Again?” says when he cannot even remember what show he’s working on from week to week?!He looked so angry when he got caught calling the show American Idol Wednesday night. Good. Wake up, Nigel, and take up another gig. You don’t know a dancer from a singer from a supermarket checkout kid.

Something missing about this season. I am disappointed.

  • dhunken

I think people are missing the point here this isn’t whether Lauren should have or not have been saved over Billy This is that Lauren should never have been in the bottom two. Neither should have Billy. IMHO. I don’t think Adecheke or Robert where at the level of excellence of Billy or Lauren. I am sorry I have to question the results. Now again I know Dial Idol is not reliable as far as who will win anymore but it had been reliable as to who was going to be safe and if it said someone was absolutely going to be safe they had been they might not have finished First or second like Dial Idol said but they were safe regardless Dial Idol had Billy as the only one safe last night. That had to account for something. Again I don’t think he may had been the #1 vote getter but he wasn’t the bottom 3 either IMHO. Also the response from the crowd when he performed and when they called him tonight was louder then it was for anyone. That is usually a strong indication who is responding or connecting. To say Billy wasn’t is beyond me because he was connecting to me all frigging season. I thought in the beginning he was given the hardest dances or the dances most out of his comfort zone and he was also unnecessarily criticized by the judges the first 3 weeks. I also think he may had been losing ground to Alex as the two superior dancers and Alex was winning that head to head but once Alex was out of the competition Billy to me was the clear professional and star. Yes Kent had Hick-town USA appeal and the innocence of the novice doing well but Billy was clearly the better and more proficient dancer. IMHO. Robert has good technique but his personality was so lacking. He was a dweeb and at times step over the line into idiosyncrasy. Adecheke was a strong dancer but lack any depth or levels and most of the time was clunky in his dance moves that were outside of his genre. Lauren and Ashley were great but not Super great. Alex and Billy were the only two to me that were Super Great and Kent was border Great-super-great. The rest I don’t think even registered. Oh yeah Jose who was lovable and all but was just so out of his league. I do think he did very well for the little bit of knowledge he had of dance but he just wasn’t no where near the level of any of the dancers. I am so Heart just gets you so far this is not the movies. :-) Anyway I am so sorry that Billy is gone and that Lauren was even in the bottom 3. (I still think that it was set up this way on purpose so Nigel could get rid of Billy and it would seem only fair otherwise it would be Lauren. Honestly she did not deserve to go home either. )

That is exactly what I think! I am happy though that Billy had last night to dance so awesome! If he had left last week we would have missed that! I no longer care who wins and I won’t be watching any longer. I love doing MJ’s SYTYCD triva but I didn’t even do it this week……I just knew Billy was going home……and dammit I voted for him all 2 hours!

  • RockiDreams

I fell asleep last night due to a stressful work day and hopped on here to get updated about a few things and was frankly very happy to see the results of last night. Can’t stand Billy or his dancing style and it has nothing to do with his lifestyle so I was a happy camper. I am sure he is going to do fine in the dance world and it seems like his fellow contestants love him – it just did not translate to a lot of viewers as to what it is they love about him. He needs to work on connecting with everyone somehow. Jose – it was about damn time he was gone. Love Lauren and Robert – not so much the other two. Kent will probably win it all – his joy shows all over the place with his dancing and as much as he annoys me, I can’t help but smile when he performs.

  • mmb

Allis performance was not good. I don’t know if it was nerves, the sound mix or what but that is the worst I have seen her perform that song. I wasn’t a disaster, but I doubt that it helped her cause. Talented girl great live performer (I’ve seen her sing dwtp live much better) but it wasn’t her night and she seemed to know it when she finished

  • Grammie Kari

Ditto on the above. I blame me for Lauren being in the B3 because I apparently fell asleep on the couch at some point during the voting hours

    J9BT,
don’t feel bad. This week was the first time I voted, and I voted for Lauren. She was not saved because she’s a girl, she was saved because she is a terrific dancer. I wonder if the fact that Cat said Lauren was with the medic may have influenced some not to vote?

I also noticed that Allison was having some trouble singing, and the performance was not all that good.

  • anovich

As soon as I saw the bottom 3 it was obvios who was gone.

And glad to know I wasn’t the only one who thought Allison’s performnce was off. I love her but that was just not that good.

  • offside

I’m very sad Billy is gone; that’s all…

  • OhMyRawrrr

I was so bummed for Allison last night :( I was hoping with all the performing she has been doing – she would be more relaxed last night. I LOVE DWTP – but last night’s performance bore no relation to that awesome song. It was a jangly mess. It seemed like Orianthi’s guitar was mixed in too loud and Allison was coming on too strong. It was like a noise-off competition between those two. No finesse. DWTP builds to an exciting arc – but last night Allison was giving it her all throughout the entire song. It was too much. :( She’s such a fantastic singer – it’s too bad.
On the other hand -loved the plug Adam got last night :D
Regarding the dancers – I have the whole season recorded but havent watched due to lack of interest. I watched last night for Ali – but from what I could see, Billy is an extraordinary dancer. It’s a shame he didn’t get the votes. Lauren looked madly talented too. Robert looked pretty good too – and Adechicke reminds me of a football player in his athleticism – he’s so cute! The only ones I didn’t particularly like were Jose (last) and Kent (I have to see more of him I guess).

  • alonzo7

I believe the winner from season five was Janelle-
Jeanine was on the show also-very petite brunette.

  • offside

Jeanine did win season 5. I hope Nigel’s dislike for Billy doesn’t keep him from potentially inviting Billy back at some point to be an all-star.

  • TwigLA

I know I won’t be popular with my opinion, but I thought Allison and Orianthi’s performance of ‘Don’t Waste the Pretty’ was bad. For starters they were on top of each other with Allison frequently being slightly behind. It was like those bad group photos where everyone leans into center or is ducking and there is tons of background to spare.

I LOVE Allison and voted for her and Kris on AI, so I was looking forward to this. That song is one of my favorites on her album and I was thrilled it was the second single.

I could probably get past the staging if it wasn’t for the fact that Allison’s voice really sounded shot to me. I couldn’t help but to think again of Janis Joplin whose voice suffered over her too short career (and life) and had gone from beautiful to gravel near the end.

Orianthi always looks extremely blase to me and last night was no exception. She’s a great guitarist, and has a compelling look from a distance.

I’m thrilled that Lauren was saved. I’ve liked her from the start and always enjoy her dances. I was surprised that Billy went home, but mostly because I felt he was a sentimental favorite from the start. He’s an excellent dancer, but I’ve seen some sub-par performances from him when I’ve watched.

Robert seems awkward to me even though he’s good. I’m not sure why that is, but it may be his goofy facial expressions. I’ve never gotten into Kent, though he is also good. (Does he remind anyone else of Aaron from AI9?) I like Adecheke a lot, so I’m glad he’s still in it. I suppose I’m in the Nigel camp in finding a strong and muscular male dancer to be visually attractive.

I can’t believe that some people are equating the androgyny comment with homophobia. There appears to be an new Macarthyism in this country as well as a thought police.

ETA: I thought the first musical act – the guy with the sychronized swim dancers stank.

  • movin2thabeet

I am so unhappy that Billy is off the show. I still have a big disconnect between bottom 3 and what I’ve observed. Not only did Dial Idol have him way ahead of everybody else and clearly safe, but on Facebook, and the SYTYCD website he was clearly the most popular. Also yesterday, I scoured the reviews, and it was near unanimous that Billy had an exceptional night and was the highlight of the show. Most predicted he would be safe and in addition to Jose, it would be either Robert or Adechike. And yes, the applause in the studio suggested that he was amongst the most popular contestants. It was clear that the power voters were coming out primarily for Billy. Taking that all into consideration with Mia’s comments last night foreshadowing Billy’s leaving, I just have this lingering suspicion that Nigel told them last week that if they didn’t eliminate Billy last week, they could finally hook him up with a choreographer he wanted to work with, but he was leaving the following week, regardless of the votes. Call it a conspiracy theory if you must, but something seems very rotten to me in Nigelland.

What just kills me is that Billy was played from the very beginning on this show. Starting with Nigel’s headlining claim that only 1 dancer between Alex and Billy would make the show, adding Billy as (supposedly) #11, so that many felt they were making exceptions for him from the beginning, critiquing him unfairly from the beginning, playing his injury as if he were soft, and then the final crowning cherry on top – voters didn’t connect because he was too androgynous!!! Really? I paint another scenario where Nigel applauded Billy from the start as an innovator in dance who was fearlessly treading on new ground and bringing that sensibility to every dance. There is no question in my mind that the popular response/perception would have been wildly different – as would the results.

In the beginning, I thought they were coming down hard on Billy to help him improve. Now, I think it’s likely Nigel never wanted him on the show, but was pressured to include him by Mia and Adam. Mia looked none to happy about what was going down this week. And it absolutely sickens me that we did not get to see him dance with Allison nor get to work with Sonya – 2 of his dream collaborations he publicly expressed before the show started. They just threw him a bone to finally get something that would show his strengths at the very end when they’d already made up their minds. Every other dancer has gotten ample chances to work right in their wheelhouses – Ken with Broadway-type numbers, Robert with Kathryn pairings and Contemporary, and of course Jose with hiphop. Speaking of, seeing them together as the 2 leaving, just crushed me. One of the best dancers to grace their stage, and one of the worst – both leaving at the same time. blech.

Bottom line – Nigel always gets what he wants in the end – by hook or by crook. Count on it. And likewise, count me as another who has now little interest in this show. With Alex and Billy gone, the best dancers by far, its simply less fun to watch – not to mention that the artistry level has now plummeted.

  • lucy

I like the ones remaining. To me, all of them have substantial dancing talent and skill while they need some maturing up as artists and performers, and it is fun to watch them work on that aspect of their work.

Love love love love love love love Billy and Alex, though. Would love to watch a show starring those two, with a wide range of choreographers and partners. That would make me very happy. Hope their injuries heal so they can go on dancing for a long time. Would like to think that Billy’s “androgyny” had nothing to do with his failure to catch fire with the audience, but since it’s hard to see what else it was, I don’t know that I *can* think this. “Androgynous” tends to be my favorite kind of person, though. So I love you, Billy.

Mia, you done good with that opening number.

Nigel, has it occurred to you that issues with your own sexuality and its presentation are probably what’s behind your issues with other people’s androgyny? You’re a big boy now, Nige. Get over it.

  • kansasfemale

Billy may be a dancer that embraces androgyny. I for one find that refreshing. I am in the camp of believing that using that as an excuse for voting him off IS homophobic in some regards. Nigel is basically saying that he wants a man to dance strong like a man. How sexist is THAT? Define “strong”. Billy dances like the wind, like art, Billy dances like the music. I for one don’t need to see a “male” dancer or a “female” dancer. I want to see an interpretation of the music. Billy did that beautifully. I hope the perfect group picks him up to dance with them, for he certainly will be able to express through dance what the choreographers see when they hear the music. I am sorry to see him go, hopefully he realizes that it’s not because he didn’t dance as well as the others, but that he is on the cusp of paving new ground in dance….through the stereotypical crap that society has come to believe defines “male” in this art form. It’s always hard to be on the cutting edge of anything…I wish him all the power the universe can send his way.

Yes! He couldn’t get his way to not have Billy on the show, so he hindered him every chance that presented itself.

Billy dances like the wind, like art, Billy dances like the music.

    Indeed.

I’m a *little* bit heartened about Nigel’s potential for future maturity by his apparent approval of Travis, who — I’m told by some closeted homophobes of my acquaintance who vehemently declare they’re not in the least homophobic — also has a bit too much of that androgyny thing going on when he dances. I do think Nigel has shown some capacity for growth and change in various ways over the years (not much, mind you, but some). So maybe there’s hope for him yet.

Just because you dance like an androgynous man or a homosexual man doesn’t mean you’re not dancing like a *man.* People are arrayed along a very wide spectrum in every regard, including gender and gender presentation, I believe, not stuck into neat little circumscribed boxes. I think that the extent to which we’re all able to move toward this view most likely will determine whether humans can be happy and peaceful on the earth. Interesting — and a good sign despite some tragic moments — to see this extremely hot-button issue for the human race played out, pretty much in the open, on a prime-time network tv show, really.

Just to clarify, I really like Lauren, Robert, AdiCheke, and Kent. They’re all great dancers with a lot of individual appeal. But, for me, this season was all about Billy and Alex, two contestants whom I’d been *waiting* to return. I never expected them to come back the same season, however, and I think that was a huge miscalculation on the part of the producers, but their talent is undeniable. I find them both to be exciting in a way few contestants have been on this show. They’ve been TRANSFORMATIVE. Although Billy had some ho-hum routines to work with early on, and I had trouble connecting with him, he really surged the last few weeks, and validated my initial interest in him. I thought his “androgenous” style was positively breathtaking.

At least Billy gets to go on tour. I’m still PISSED BEYOND BELIEF that Jakob Karr got the shaft!

  • movin2thabeet

Billy dances like the wind, like art, Billy dances like the music.

So perfect, so true. Thank you, kansasfemale.

And ditto to the Yes! to Billy going on the tour, and a big fat No! to Jakob (and Ellenore) not going on the tour.

  • zuper

Anyway I am so sorry that Billy is gone and that Lauren was even in the bottom 3. (I still think that it was set up this way on purpose so Nigel could get rid of Billy and it would seem only fair otherwise it would be Lauren. Honestly she did not deserve to go home either. )

    dhunken, I couldn’t agree more!!

I didn’t post last night because I was so pissed at Nigel, his blatant manipulation of the show, and his comment to Billy. I figured I should wait until morning when I could form an intelligent, well worded response.

Unfortunately, waiting until morning didn’t help so here it is: Nigel is an ass-hat.

  • bridget

Is Nigel’s reply tweet suggesting that Billy Bell’s “style” is reminiscent of “classic David Bowie” ? (If so, I don’t really see that, myself):

“RT @djbtv:Weird how many don’t understand “androgynous”. Guess u have to dig classic David Bowie [Bowie's style is absolutely spot on.]”

Dancers’ “paint and canvas” are their bodies, Billy is young man – ergo, he dances like a man, like the man he is. To me, “masculine,” “feminine,” and especially “androgynous” aren’t particularly helpful dance style descriptors.

I enjoyed watching what Billy could do – so flexible, practically contortionist-like, on top of the amazing, controlled fluidity and polish.

I think more of the audience didn’t connect with him simply because his personality either is (or came across as) more reserved and because he and Nigel seemed to reach a point of contention or at least frustration with each other.

At a certain point in all these shows, there’s the “pageant” or like-ability factor. Billy wasn’t unlikeable to me, but the rest of the remaining dancers all have that kind of “puppy dog” appeal going on (Robert, sort of a goofy puppy) that I don’t think Billy does.

(Adecheke’s “warmer, fuzzier” side wasn’t being highlighted right off the bat either but it is now.)

  • movin2thabeet

zuper, same here. I was so furious last night and waiting till the morning did little to dissipate that rage. What does help is knowing that Billy will be on tour and that he no longer will be under Nigel’s thumb to manipulate. I actually see a perfect piece coming out of this experience having to do with puppet strings and cutting them. Billy could totally nail that!

ETA: I’m not expecting Billy to be chosen as an Allstar anytime soon.

    Oooh, I like that!

I just ordered tickets for the tour. I’m sorry that Nigel will profit from this purchase, but I can’t wait to see the show.

  • BootStar

Has there been any explanation for why Jakob and Ellenore were not invited to perform on tour, but “all-stars” who already got to tour were? Wasn’t a tour part of package the finalists were promised? I mean Jakob was the runner-up, wasn’t he? Or is he not “masculine” enough for Nigel to contemplate since he has to allow Billy to tour? I don’t tweet, but I hope somebody bombards Nigel with those questions.

And am I the only one who finds it rather ironic that Nigel, of all people, is lecturing us about what constitutes proper masculinity? He’s hardly oozing machismo himself. I love strong, athletic dancers as much as anyone, but a woman can dance that way, too, and it does’t diminish her “femininity” in any way. So sick of the stereotyping and forcing artists into boxes.

And am I the only one who finds it rather ironic that Nigel, of all people, is lecturing us about what constitutes proper masculinity? He’s hardly oozing machismo himself.

Well … I have always kind of thought that this was a likely reason for his attitude. Since he doesn’t ooze machismo, he may have found in the course of his dancing life, especially, that a lot of people linked him with dancers who oozed even less machismo …. and he didn’t like that.

Hard for me to find another explanation for his anti-androgyny schtick combined with his over-the-top enthusiasm when the women wear those naked costumes. To me, all of Nigel’s sexuality-related stuff on the show (and there’s too much of it, as far as I’m concerned) smacks of — Working out my own issues with sexuality at a sort of adolescent level still. I guess I get it, coming from a kind of dweeby dancer guy from England, and all. But it means that his own issues probably completely blind him to the irony, I’m guessing.

  • weese

I am still sad that Billy is gone. Someone with his talent deserved so much more respect. Nigel your kiss off with all that leaping thru the air but staying grounded advice was crap. Billy is obviously smart and strong and really doesn’t need advice on life from a sexually insecure and arrogant Nigel.

Ouch! This wasn’t my favorite Allison performance, but I didn’t think it was terrible. I did think she seemed a bit nervous. She always seemed so fearless on Idol (and when I saw her live a couple of weeks ago – fantastic!). I just think she needs to get her mojo back for some of these TV performances.

I thought the dancers off to the side were a bad idea – very distracting, imo.

Luckily for Allison, that other singer was horrendous.

    Loved Mia’s opening number.

I was hoping Billy or Jose would go home weeks ago & may have, if not for the injuries of others. Billy is an excellent dancer, but, he didn’t bring it, until it was too late. I never could connect to his personality, either, nothing to do with Nigel’s reasoning. Adechike & Alex were my favorites, then Alex went bye-bye-bye. Adechike, despite the judges trying to off him, must have a very strong fan base.

  • mellodrone

I feel so let down after last night’s show. A friend who follows the DI site had e-mailed me Thursday morning to say ‘Don’t worry – Billy was the only one NOT predicted to be voted off, so he’ll be safe.’ I guess this is the one time DI got it wrong. That, or Nigel decided the outcome himself. More and more SYTYCD has become like American Idol… the young girls vote for the guy they fantasize about dating. Billy’s artistic and extremely unique style should have been embraced and celebrated on a dance show. Instead the EP harped on him every week for not being more like the others. Very sad.

alli-lurker – If you read my original, detailed post about my reaction to her performance you would realize it pained me to say how badly she performed. She got some of my votes on IDOL, is on our IPOD rotation at home and when her songs come on they stand out in a good way because he voice is so awesome.

Not last night, though. I agree those dancers were quite distracting – they were there, then left, then returned, and they weren’t even SYTYCD dancers – some random people doing choreography that didn’t even match the song. But besides the horrible dancing, Allison really didn’t perform well. I think she blew a big chance, too, given how the show was able to give an unknown singer – Christine Perri – a huge boost.

Someone needs to give Allison performance lessons so her performance can match her usually awesome vocals. Oh, we need to be able to see her eyes, too when she’s performing.

That’s true – she had a real chance to shine given his horrendous introduction. He looked horrible, sounded horrible and was singing horrible lyrics. My tween daughter actually asked me why popular male singers are always singing about “wanting it, needing it, etc.” I found his song totally offensive, which probably isn’t surprising given that I’m a mom of 2 children, one of whom is a girl.

I can’t believe that some people are equating the androgyny comment with homophobia. There appears to be an new Macarthyism in this country as well as a thought police.

The issue is that Nigel has a history with other comments so that this is just part of a larger problem he has with certain male dancers. Just like he has a history of saying pervy things to some of the women dancers. And I don’t think it’s McCarthyism to have problems with the rampant homophobia that does still exist in this country. I mean how many states can gays even get legally married in again? Yeah. So yeah, Nigel gets crap about his comments, because he has a history now. See for example his reactions to the first gay male ballroom dancers.
