The 5th season of Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance finishes on August 6. But you won’t be missing Nigel and Mary and Cat for long. The new season begins a mere 5 weeks later, on September 9–a week earlier than originally scheduled.

If So You Think You Can Dance plays well in the fall, it will stay there, and won’t be back in the summer.

The SYTYCD premier, only an hour long (8/7c pm), will be followed by the season premiere of Glee at 9/8c pm. (By the way, I finally caught the pilot of Glee, and all I’m sayin’ is that the choir geek in me would be remiss if she did not obsess–and yes, re-cap–this awesome new show, so stay tuned…)

If you missed the Glee pilot, which aired after the American Idol final two performance episode, you can catch a special extended director’s cut with two minutes of additional material airing on Wednesday September 2, 8/7 pm. A second encore will kick off three weeks of Glee encores on Friday nights at 9/8c pm, airing 9/4, 9/11, and 9/18.

UPDATE: SQUEE! A new performance video has been posted to Hulu! via EW. Mercedes covers Jazmine Sullivan’s “Bust Your Windows”. Awesome! Check out the video after the jump…

Hmm, not sure how this two times a year thing will work for SYTYCD.

As for Glee, wish I liked it more. I would love to have a new TV show to watch.

Glee and my beautiful Cat in my fall lineup? oh my!

  • Matt

I loved the pilot episode of Glee. I can’t wait for the second episode.

This fall is going to be stacked for me. Glee. SYTYCD. NFL and NCAA Football. Final year of college. Should be exciting.

  • snuffles

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! Love the new clip! If they’re going to do suff like that every week, I’m going to be GLUED to my TV set!

Thought I would never see the day a male would be using in a sentence the words Glee, SYTYCD , NFL, and NCAA football and being excited about all them. :happy_tb:

    There is hope!

  • adamsoldestfan

Hey MJ…I hope you gain some influence with the Glee producers. I liked the pilot EXCEPT the joke about waterboarding left me cold, cold, cold. If they do anything like that again, they have lost me forever.

  • Matt

    “There is hope!”

LOL, my friends don’t get it. I was the basketball player in high school that hoped our game would end quick enough so I wouldn’t miss the end of Idol.

Oh, Matt, you don’t know how that warms this old mom’s heart. Are you sure you’re not really David Cook hanging out on mj’s? ;-)

BTW, all, I’m pretty sure iTunes is offering the the pilot for Glee (in HD!) for FREE, so check there too if you need your own personal copy.

Here’s a YouTube version for anyone who doesn’t get Hulu in their area. ( I know I don’t…)

The truth? I can’t wait for Glee. But, two seasons of SYTYCD in a row? I don’t know if I’m up for it. SYTYCD is my summer guilty pleasure. And there’s already more TV to watch in the fall than I have time for. But, we shall see.

  • suebrody

It says you have to pay $1.99 for Glee Pilot on iTunes, so I guess I will watch it on Hulu. I’m cheap that way. ;-)

I am excited for SYTYCD S6 (wow!). It will tide me over until Idol begins. Smart, TPTB at Fox. I was in Glee Club so I can relate (total geek). And I get the Red Sox, Patriots, and these two shows! Very excited!

  • lilbrusc102

Gah, I’m so stoked about the upcoming season of Glee! I’ll be excited to read your recaps, MJ!

ETA: Love the new performance video! “Bust Your Windows” is such a great song, and Mercedes is awesome! If it can maintain the quality of the pilot, Glee might just join Freaks and Geeks on the list of my favorite show about high school…

  • St.Lucia

I’m on the fence about if I love SYTYCD moving to the fall, if it does well there. I hope it does and doesn’t all at the same time.

SYTYCD is about the only thing good on during the summer. I’m a teacher so I always feel like I can’t stay up for all the good shows in the fall because I’m usually too dead to the world, but the summer when I have TIME to watch TV there isn’t anything on.

And add me to the group who is already obsessed with Glee and it is by far the one show I absolutely cannot WAIT for this fall.

Aw, sorry about that, Sue! It was free forEVER, but I guess they finally decided to try and make a few (extra) bucks.

It’s funny how many of us former chorus/glee club geeks love American Idol. I suspected that for some time!

  • SparklesATL

I can’t ever remember (and I’m old) a show being promoted like Glee, especially months and months in advance!

I saw the fist episode too and it was FANTASTIC! I was a chorus geek in school as well, as far back as I remember up to and including my first year of college doing musicals. I was chubby, wore glasses and made good grades so I totally relate to Glee. One of my best memories, and there are lots of them, is when, back in 1970-71 I talked our Choral director into letting us do some songs from Hair (Good Morning Starshine anyone?) and Simon & Garfunkle ( BOTW.)

    Awwww, the memories!

BTW, not to nitpick, but I will…no way can you break a car window that easily. It’s tempered glass. Still a geek. :)

  • s0x_prisoner

GLEE!!! Seriously, that show makes me so happy. I love the performance of “Don’t Stop Believin’”!

SYTYCD is about the only thing good on during the summer.

I am with you on this! It means 4 days of watching Music/Dance related programs both in the Fall (SYTYCD & DWTS) and the Spring (AI & DWTS). What’s left for Summer?

I haven’t seen Glee, but it sounds like something I would enjoy. Maybe they will have Archie or Allison make Guest spots on the show? When will my family be able to call me when watching all these shows?

    Thank you, MJ.

I have been searching for a show since Hero’s became predictable and since I have rewatched every last episode of Lost. I was intrigued by the Glee pilot when they showed the commerical the first time around. Happily, I just loved, loved, LOVED! the show. My only fear is that it builds up too fast to solutions (driven girl becomes accepted by peers, rag-tag chorus group becomes suddenly popular), as I enjoy the struggles much more than the packaged solutions.

As for more dance this fall, fine by me. However, what is the real reason for putting it during the fall? I agree that there is nothing during the summer except for SYTYCD for me, so I hope there is something else to fill the void.

have you watched Weeds or Big Love? You can download them from iTunes or for free on Vuze. Both are awesome.
