omg…. i really really like it!!!

i can’t wait until it is released.

  • Trina

IT’S ON ITUNES!!! WOOT! Freaking love it!

  • Harborchick

    Wow, I really like it!

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

Okay, I love Daughtry and I liked their first album. And long time posters who remember me from season 5 know that I LOVED Chris when he was on the show.

But really? They’ve made him sound even more Chad Kroeger-ish, if that’s even possible. I hate the bgv’s on that song. Like, really, really hate. It’s catchy, so maybe it’ll grow on me. But on first listen, I’m really disappointed.

  • http://airincaol.com coco

this song sounds so familiar, chris d looks a lot like lionel richie. I hope he sells 5 million…..God bless

  • weareallinnocent

It’s catchy, but… I’m not feeling it. Maybe a few more listens.

I suspect that, with all the goodwill he’s built with his debut, he’ll still sell really well. But I’m not hearing this song, if it reflects the album content, as having further breakout or Wow! potential.

AC? Is that his aim at this point? Hmmm…

  • sbalk017

OMG I love it. It’s good and radio-friendly, and I know that the album will be even better if it’s possible. and I can really relate to the lyrics.

  • hypertwink

It’s good. I like it. I don’t know why i thought they’d sound different (maybe, probably because it’s been three years) but this could be a lost track from their first album.

  • JJ123

I love Daughtry…..I love Chris’ voice on this song….LOVE IT!! I was kinda hoping for a little more edge for the first single but I can totally see why this one was chosen, very radio friendly!! And the reason it sounds Chad Kroegerish is because he’s one of the cowriters lol. I’ve listened to it quite a bit tonight and it’s totally stuck in my head so I guess that’s a good sign of hit!!

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

And the reason it sounds Chad Kroegerish is because heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s one of the cowriters lol.

The point was that Chris’s voice sounds almost exactly like Chad Kroeger in parts. That’s not a by-product of the songwriting so much as the singing and producing.

  • breakdown

Thanks MJ. I downloaded it hours ago and I love it. The rest of the cd will probably have more edge but this is perfect for the first single especially since they’re premiering it on AI. Chris’ voice is his own.

  • lovegoodmusic

The beginning of the song before the full band starts playing reminds me of American Indian music when he sings Oooà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s oh Ooo . And I like it. I will definitely purchase Daughtryà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s new album when ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s released.

  • lovecert

There’s a slight country tinge in this one that I like.

It’s NO SURPRISE I won’t be here tomorrow
I can’t believe that I stayed till today
Yeah you and I will be a tough act to follow
But I know in time we’ll find this was NO SURPRISE

    Subliminal message much?

  • JJ123

oh I don’t think he sounds like Chad on it, I can hear the influence of Chad in the writing but defnitely not anything similar in the singing….to me at least.

  • oddobserver

Thanks MJ. Great song! Just what I needed to cleanse my ears of Danny Disaster. Thank goodness you posted it so soon.

  • duncan

I love it!!! Can’t wait to see the boys on AI tonight and can’t wait for the tour!

  • thedingoateyobaby

LOVE Daughtry’s new song. Boy he sure has a distinctive sound. De did good, real good for himself. I will be downloading it.

  • TwigLA

This has AI 2010 Goodbye Song written all over it. I can hear it being sung and played at high school graduations across the country.

Catchy tune, catchy lyrics. I smell another hit for Daughtry.

  • leome

This sounds like a Nickelback rejected tune. I didn’t know it was written by Chad, now it makes sense.
There are bits of it that remind me of one of Nickelback’s latest single.
Plus, after 3 years they come up with a song that is exactly like the ones in the last album? Mmmm… ok. I guess when the formula works, why change?

So not into it. I hope the rest of the album shows some difference. I don’t even think it’s that catchy, I’ve listened to it a few times and can’t remember any of the lyrics or the tune. But that’s probably me.

  • http://www.myspace.com/xmisstarax Miss Tara

I find it extremely catchy and very radio friendly. Good choice for a first single.

Their first album was diverse, with songs pleasing the rock-lite fans and then those that wanted a bit more edge. I bet this album will be no different.

I’m just happy to have new songs. And I can’t wait for the tour….Chris sounds amazing live. CD’s do him no justice.

  • oceana

I like it. It’s lighter than I expected, a bit too catchy, but it will fit in on my ipod. I expected something edgier because they’ve been promoting the new cd as being more gritty. This is far from gritty, so I think it’s a case of misleading expectations. For sure the cd will have more grit to it. Seems like producers these days tend to pick the safest songs i.e. most generic for singles.

  • kimberann

I LOVE it. I am pleasantly surprised. Good job Daughtry.

  • Thea

Like it, but certainly not groundbreaking….

  • bean99

I like it a lot but it’s not what I was expecting. There’s more harmonizing than any song from his first album. I agree that they probably picked it as being radio friendly. I remember not loving It’s not Over when they first released it as a single but I still like it now even after hearing it a billion times on the radio. I can’t wait for the album so forked out the $1.29 at iTunes although am not liking the new pricing.

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=587900002&ref=name cruzceleste

    Not liking it…:/

  • Dr. Tracey

    Ugh $1.29, I liked .99 better.
However, love Daughtry and I love this new single so i’ll splurge.

  • yeahyeahsure

I LOVE it. I think it’s a very smart song if that made sense. It’s extremely catchy and the hook is amazing. It’s one of those songs that will get stuck on your head whether you like it or not. And I love Chris’ voice. His recording voice is $$$. This is the perfect 1st single I think. It would please most of the mainstream fans and then they can release the darker, harder stuff later on.

  • luci

I think because of the name Daughtery this song will do well. Plus having 20 million people watch the song performed I know is not always a guaranteed hit but it will help alot. The song is catchy in parts but I hate the cheesy lyrics of “No Surprise”
It’s to early to tell but I hope he doesn’t have sophomore slump syndrome.

  • whosefanryou

Very catchy! I’m on my third listen and already singing along. Definitely a hit. Can’t wait to see Chris on the Idol stage tonight.

  • LK09

I am so impressed with this guy’s voice, and I like the song.

  • BootStar

I love Chris, but I’m not impressed with this. At all. This sounds more poppy than the stuff on the first album. I thought he was going for “edgier” this time?

I think I’ll wait until the album drops and get them all then instead of wasting $1.29 now.

  • AInoob

The song premiered on my local HAC radio station WPLJ this morning (though strangely there is no mention of it on their website). I really liked it, its catchy. For someone upthread who said the song sounds very Chad Kroeger-y, LOL, good catch, he has co-write credit on it.

  • heart2

    Not loving it either.

  • cheese

I liked the very beginning, before he started singing.

  • yeahyeahsure

    Rehearsal video:

    http://www.etonline.com/news/2009/05/73614/

Album is titled “Leave This Town” (a line from a song called “September”.
Chris personally texted David Cook offering his condolences.

  • jumpstart

It’s okay, but I really expected something with more edge. Perhaps it will grow on me.

  • bluejeans

I like his debut album but not feeling this song. The hook is not strong enough. I’ve listened to it twice but still can’t seem to recall the chorus. The production is mediocre too.

  • hardkandy

can’t say i’m a fan of this song but i can definitely see this being a hit.

  • koolgurl

Not liking it cause it sounds too much like everything else he does.

  • yeahyeahsure
  • golcook

mmmm… this song is so generic. I agree he sounds even more like Chad Kroeger than his last songs, very very disappointing.

Today it seems the artists doesn’t write their stuff to be original or to make a difference, just to have hits. I hope this song doesn’t become a hit, it doesn’t deserve it.

I’m sorry Daughtry fans, you have to admit this song is nothing but the same.

  • Ladybug

I smell another Hot AC hit!

I smell another sounds-like-every-single-song-he’s-ever done. And, oh yes, it will be a huge hit as will the CD.

  • DBfan

    Review of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“No Surpriseà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ :

    http://top40.about.com/od/singles/gr/daughtrynosurprise.htm

This review really says it all. The plain truth.

Daughtry are planning to stick around awhile. “No Surprise,” the first single from their upcoming second album, makes that abundantly clear. Daughtry are the sound of mainstream rock today, and “No Surprise” is possibly stronger than any of the singles off their four million selling debut album. A wall of guitar is topped off by Chris Daughtry’s gravelly but clear vocals and skillfully crafted lyrics. There’s no mistaking this as a hit when you hear it.

Sorry there was so much to bold. lol

  • Deejay

This song is kind of dull on first (and second) listen. It may do well because it’s very safe and plays to the target audience, but I think just about everything on the debut album was more interesting and catchy than this.

I sincerely hope they take more risks and try something new in the future. I’d like to see Daughtry grow.

ETA: I just finished the second listen and can’t recall the melody of the chorus. That’s very unusual for me; I usually pick up songs (melody and lyrics) on one listen.

  • sidewalk

Wow…I really like it. A lot. This reminds of why I was such a huge Chris fan back in Season 5…
His voice does sound different though…not bad, just different.

  • Jocelin

The reason why it sounds like a Kroeger song is because he only writes a slight variation of one song. It’s a derivative, regurgitated song of a previous regurgitated song of a previous regurgitated song.

Music always has a point of reference and inspiration- yes- but this sounds like a more blatant form of musical cloning.

I’ll pass and spend my money on something a little more interesting. Sorry, DAUGHTRY.

  • lex

Elliott, Chris, and Kelly are actually three of my very favorite idols and I had been looking forward to all of their CDs. Unfortunately, all of the recent songs I’ve heard from them are boring the crap out of me! Maybe I’m all popped out. (pop-rock, pop-R&B, pop-pop) I would like to see an Idol come up with something a little more original (or at least a little more substantive), but that is probably hoping for too much. ho-hum

  • Anya

“The reason why it sounds like a Kroeger song is because he only writes a slight variation of one song. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a derivative, regurgitated song of a previous regurgitated song of a previous regurgitated song. ”

This is exactly true! Very disappointing, boring song! The quality stuff is def not on the charts these days.

  • holeighannie

Yeah, couldn’t even make it through all of that…he sounds weird, like he’s got a higher pitched goaty quality this time around. I liked about half of his first CD because the songs were catchy, but they really do all sound the same. Yay, generic top 40 music!

  • http://myspace.com/susanatfox sumidol

I really like this song, he sounds just like Chris and only Chris in my opinion – like he has on all his songs

  • IdolThoughts

    Cool…but what’s with the picture? Kinda silly…

  • primeminister

    I like this.

  • lg

Love D and his band, just not this song. I like his heavy rock side, so if he has more good ones like before then I’ll be buying.

  • Daniel B

Insanely catchy, can’t get the tune out of my head. That would be bad except for one thing: I love the song! Awesome song, and not at all what I expected (I heard a clip of him playing ‘You Don’t Belong To Me’ live on youtube and I thought was one of the greatest rock songs of all time, and I was hoping it would be the first single for that reason, but actually this song seems like a better lead off, as catchy and likeable as it is). I can easily see his 2nd album being even bigger than the first was.
