New Smash casting new broke yesterday afternoon. Karen (Katharine McPhee) will get a roomate after she breaks up with Dev (He’s one of several characters expected to leave the show next season).

Broadway actress Krysta Rodriguez has joined the show as a series regular and will play Ana, Karen’s “fun and spunky new roommate” who is also “an ensemble member in Broadway shows trying to make her mark.”

Krysta starred in originated the role of Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family musical. She also guest starred on the CW television series Gossip Girl as Jordan Steele.

Also becoming a series regular is  Leslie Odom Jr. who plays Sam the baseball loving dancer and boyfriend of Tom (Christian Borle). So happy I can continue to ship these two! They better not break up.

Also joining the NBC musical drama when it returns next season is Jennifer Hudson, who will play a Broadway diva in a multi-episode arc, plus Broadway actor, Andy Mientus and Newsies alum, Jeremy Jordan.

I didn’t think that it would be possible, but it sounds like the second season of “Smash” may just end up a bigger mess than the first season!

When will the show’s runners realize that stunt casting is NOT going to save this show? Only great writing can lift it from its current mediocrity. Fix the writing, folks!

I didn’t think SMASH news could get any more exciting and now we find out Leslie is a regular? This makes me happy! I love Sam and Tom together.

I just really love this show. I have always been a huge Kat McPhee fan and I just love the talent on this show. I have no idea where they are headed with the story line but I actually don’t care!
