Siobhan Magnus Visits the If I Can Dream House – Photos, Video

Siobhan Magnus had dinner last night at the If I Can Dream house. Here she is hanging out with pal, Top 24 contestant, Alex Lambert.

After dinner, Siobhan answered twitter questions from fans. One interesting tidbit to come out of the session: The Top 6 will not be allowed to play guitar next week as they tackle the Frank Sinatra songbook.

Harry Connick Jr. is mentoring, and arranging the music for the kid’s performances, and it appears there are no options for singer/songwriter Sinatra! Heh.

After the jump, check out more photos, and a short clip of Siobhan singing her fav, Hanson’s “I Will Come to You”.  Siobhan also performed Beyonce’s “Halo” during the after-dinner jam session.

All the photos and vids are courtesy of Shirley Halperin of Idotracker!

UPDATE: Added vid of Siobhan singing “Halo” via Igrecman

I actually think this may be best. It can take some pressure off the contestants to decided what to do w/ the arrangements.

I think Siobhan sounded great in the dream house “music” room. This is how I would have liked her to be and sound on Idol. Not with all the jacked up hair & wardrobe, not with all the musical production hoopla.

I do think she was a bit self-indulgent. You could tell that Alex (her supposed buddy before he was cut) was waiting for a chance to play something for her – one of his new songs, but she monopolized the time and then she left. It would have been nice of her to ask Alex to sing something. Instead she duets with Justin. She didn’t stay as long as Tim Urban, Andrew and Katie, etc.

  • dfeeel2

    @areyouin..

how can you even say that? we havent even seen a full vid of the visit.
and how was she supposed to know he had new stuff like wtf?
she prob doesnt even feel like being there and who could blame her, its one big promotional stunt by 19, and siobhan isnt like that..

im already in love with her post-idol career, hahaha

  • chessguy99

She had an invite to sing with Hanson on their last New York concert Friday night. The Idol obligations prevented her from even considering accepting the invite. She even said that she had to be there at If I Can Dream house.

I like the insight into what happened Teen Idols/Billboard #1’s week. They had their songs pretty much all picked out and most were in rehearsal when Ken Warwick blew a fuse and changed the theme. That is why we got re-hash week. Crystal shined as she sang a song she probably had done hundreds of times, the rest were left scampering for a song. I swear Ken Warwick will be the ultimate end of Idol.

I think so too. Even if the sound isn’t great, I think that Halo is better than anything she has done on the show. Very often just singing a song simply without anything fancy or theatrical works so much better. I think her trying to emulate Adam singing style is a very bad mistake – I just can’t stand her screeching, and couldn’t want her off the show soon enough. I do think she spent too much time copying other people to be able to know who she is, and ended up becoming a cheap imitation of other people.

“I think her trying to emulate Adam singing style is a very bad mistake”
She was not trying to emulate Adam, and you have no proof of that.

  • dfeeel2

WHY CANT I FIND THE FULL VIDEO OF HER VISIT!!
i only see the two performances omg

Great point and I completely agree!
Wow, I had no idea Sio played the piano! Why in the heck didn’t she play on the show? People are not stupid, no one likes a singer who is trying to sound as someone else. No one will be as the GREAT ADAM! Sio sounds real nice on the videos, so natural and authentic! I tried to be a fan of Sio but she just never ‘got back’ to the wonderful days of ‘Wicked Game’, ‘Think’, ‘HOTRS’ (BRILLIANT performance), ‘Paint It Black’ (although her screeching at the end I did not care for and plust she could not hold the note without breaking her voice at the end, but overall it was a great performance). I wish Siobhan the best and I know she will do fantastic in her music career as well as her theatre career.

  • weese

She has been screaming in her band ever since she learned how and has always had a unique sense of style. These things have nothing to do with Adam. She knows who she is. She has her own style of singing and presenting a song, unfortunately it did not prove to be popular.

  • Twisted Sister

I saw If I can dream yesterday when Siobhan was there from beginning to the end. She sang three songs and she sounded great. Alex joined her once and so did Justin. She and Alex became friends after one situation on a plain when they almost die before the top 24. She said she admire Adam because he is unique and because he is a sweetheart. She said a lot of great things about Adam but I really can’t remember sorry, but it is true that she has been wailing with her band before Idol. She is not trying to emulate Adam. I used to think that but I was totally wrong. She is a really cool person and she was joking with Alex all the time.

  • sue

Siobhan WTF didn’t you play the piano on idol? WHY girl why? The judges and the viewers would of taken you a little more serious as an artist if you would of slowed it down and played the piano. What a missed opportunity. I am still a little bitter about this. lol Oh well! I will live.

  • Hazehel

If what I heard about her band is true, then she sure wasn’t screaming the same kind of songs as she did before, and I can bet it wasn’t done the same way. On the show she was doing it Adam’s Feeling Good-style, the big long screech at the end of the song. She is kinda like a little kid who learned that screeching get people’s attention, so kept doing it not caring a jot that other people hate it just as long as she can get the attention she wants.

  • Ceddies

I really liked they way Siobhan sang and played Halo. Wish she had done this on Idol. Hopefully she will have a good future in music. She has the determination and talent IMO.

Where did it say no guitars for the Top 5? WOW! If Casey knocks it out of the park without a guitar, it is a whole new ball game!

  • idolbeat

I also enjoyed Siobhan on the piano and loved her vocals on Halo. Maybe she didn’t know the piano on the songs she chose. Was Halo even a choice at any point during the Top 24?

  • CRB

    Siobhan is a talented woman.

I’d love to see that happen too, because I’ll bet you anything they’re taking away their guitars after what Casey about how he will never put his guitar down because “it’s who I am.” I can just hear TPTB saying, “Oh yeah? We’ll just see about that!”

It would be awesome if that blew up in their faces and Casey ripped the roof off the joint. I hope he knows about the MediaCurves survey–that could give him a boost he’s probably needing after a wonderful performance that still landed him in the Bottom 3.

There is another video of Siobahn singing another hanson song, “A song to sing”

“areyouin”, if you’d seen the entire video you would know that not only did Alex sing with Siobhan on at least one song, she actually asked him to sing for her and he acted shy and didn’t want to. He did sing at random times throughout the episode, but mostly when he was alone in the room — I think he’s still self-conscious when he has an audience.

She sang four songs in total, I think… Halo was right at the beginning of the show, and then she did a “mini-concert” later. The entire visit is quite scripted and pre-planned, so if she seemed to get up abruptly to leave the room, it was because she was told to do it. During the visit she taped TV promos and a radio interview, had dinner, answered questions in the Twitter session… it was all very structured.

Oh, she doesn’t like the term, “scream”, and asks that you call it a “wail” instead :)

I have to add re: a few of the comments here, that if you don’t care for Siobhan’s voice or personal style or whatever, that’s fine. However, to judge her harshly over what you did or didn’t see in a 5 minute video clip that was merely a fraction of a 3+ hour visit seems quite unfair to her. She was charming and polite and courteous the entire evening, and if anything, I was a bit put off by Alex’s behavior. Siobhan was very sisterly and loving towards him and it was easy to see how much she cared about him, but he acted a bit distant and disinterested. Many others who watched the entire thing interpreted it as a bit of a crush + jealously that the other guys in the house were paying attention to Siobhan. I have no idea, but she was a very polite houseguest who would make any Mom proud.

  • AIaddict

No guitars? Well either Lee and Casey will knock it out of the park or fall flat on their faces. Lee has only sang without his guitar twice that I remember and Casey, never? I think that’s right.

Siobhan is a very talented girl and I do wish she would have played piano one week on the show. It’s gonna be interesting to see what happens to her post idol.

  • mozart4898

About the “no guitars” thing – the only thing that surprises me about that was that they were actually told they couldn’t use one. I kinda expected to see (almost) all of them without them anyways because they don’t fit the style of music that well. But that said, taking them away might also take some of the creativity of the contestants away with these songs and encourage them to sing them more like the original than anything else. Having Harry Connick Jr. do their arrangements could be great if they have input. But on the other hand it could backfire for a few of them if they don’t have any input and he just writes an arrangement for them to sing. I would think Lee and Casey in particular need to have input into their arrangements to make sure it’s something that’ll actually work for their style. The other 3, if they pick the right song, will basically be fine almost regardless of the arrangement.

Also…does no guitars mean no instruments at all? Crystal could always go back to the piano again, although I wonder if perhaps we’ve seen that for the one and only time on the show.

  • movin2thabeet

Well, with a ‘no guitar’ rule, next week should be verrrryyy interesting. Both Lee and Casey have been pretty much fused to their guitars and both have very limited vocal ranges as well as limited emotional depth to their singing. This week could be a game changer. Either that, or its more of the same of desperation voting for your fave no matter how they do. Regardless, I’m looking forward to the show. Harry Connick Jr. is a great arranger and overall good guy and for those who are really willing to learn and grow, he could be a great mentor.

She also played a bit of My Immortal on piano- but did not sing it I believe.
And also told some amazingly funny stories:

I’m hoping that we will get a nice segment from Hulu on Siobhan’s visit, as I can’t hear her at all on the house cameras. Shirley’s twidvid was pretty good, but I don’t know the song, so it doesn’t help me get much of an idea about her piano playing. I had seen pictures of her sitting at the keyboard with her dad earlier in the competition, so I knew she could play, but I didn’t know how well. I’d say, from looking at this she is competent, but no where near the level of a Matt Girard type player. That’s probably why she didn’t play on the show. Siobhan could have tried it on her Across the Universe song, I bet that would have been beautiful, just her and the piano. Still it takes a lot of courage to sing and play at the same time if you aren’t totally comfortable with it. Especially in front of 20 million viewers, lol.

ETA: Thanks for the video clips! Halo is still too low for me to hear, but I loved the last one with her telling the story about the pumpkin man who was SUCH a fan! It must be surreal to have strangers come up to you on the street and tell you who the “real you” is, lol. This is but the start, Siobhan. Wait ’til you go on tour and go to the bus line autograph signings. You’ll meet the crazies there for sure, lol.

  • carolinacharms

Adam did not invent the “scream.” How laughable.

  • dfeeel2

    HAAHAHAHAHAHAH

“you don’t know me pumpkin king!”

can i be her bestfriend. right now

  • whatever4444

Okay what was America thinking? She is so talented!! She has a great sense of humor. I can’t believe she was eliminated. She will have a great carrier. She has the whole package and will be a star.

  • St.Lucia

I’m a huge Hanson fan. Yes, you heard me correctly. HUGE. They are definitely a band that doesn’t get nearly enough recognition for how wonderful they are.

    I loved Siobhan…

So Siobhan singing Hanson’s “Use Me Up” from the new album, “Shout it Out” as well as “Song to Sing” from This Time Around, and “I will come to you” from Middle of Nowhere has officially made my day. She did the songs a good justice, and I really enjoyed hearing her versions.

I watched all of Hanson’s 5 of 5 live concert streaming series and I was really hopeful that Siobhan just might make an appearance(although I knew better because of her Idol contract) but it would have been awesome. Maybe if she’s lucky she’ll get her chance when Hanson is on tour this summer.

Yeah, again, huge Hanson fan. :)

  • brie200

I too was wondering why Siobhan never played the piano on Idol.

Since there is some discussion of behavior at the Dream House, IMO both Alex and Siobhan were fine. I don’t think Siobhan had much control over activities and/or the time she left the house. As for Alex, I think he just seemed a little nervous, which for whatever reason he had told Ben (one of the other guys in the house) he was nervous before she got there. He even changed his clothes a bunch of times and did his hair. LOL.

I got the impression all the guys in the house were sort of taken by Siobhan. I mean, she has to be a bit different then the Hollywood types they are usually around and she’s talkative and friendly.

As for Alex and Siobhan, I know they said their goodbyes off camera, but they seemed to be fine.

  • jammasta

    OH MY GOD @ Halo.

She should’ve totally done this song. An amazing vocal from Siobhan, plus piano! Would’ve been a killer!

  • areyouin

@CynicalDog — I did see pretty much all of her visit, live. I’m not sure if you’re just a Siobhan fan and have checked this out because you knew she was going to be at the dream house, but I am an Alex Lambert fan and have been watching his journey at the house since he arrived. No way is he “. . .still self-conscious when he has an audience.” He has performed with and for a much larger group than was present last night. The nights when Andrew Garcia/Katie Stevens & Jason Castro + entourage were there the music room was packed. You can find some of those vids on youtube. I’m sorry – it was just my impression, and usually Alex thrives on playing his stuff for whomever will listen.

@dfeel2 — As far as Siobhan maybe not knowing that Alex had any new “stuff”? What do you think she thinks he’s been doing all this time??

  • wellhesback

I had never paid attention to Hanson until David Cook mentioned he liked their stuff. I liked Siobhan’s music tonight. I’s still sorry she left before Mike, Aaron, Casey and Lee

  • karrahbrooke

Oh my goodness. I do love Hanson. I saw them live about a year and a half ago and they were amazing. Siobhan’s cover of “I Will Come to You’ was awesome, I hope she gets to perform with them for the finale.

This Girl just gets better & better…the more you see the more you want! Lol…..I downloaded the whole show of If I can Dream!…from here!

    http://idolforums.com/index.php?showtopic=647823&st=740

First off… Alex is a Ham! Omg..smack him.. Hes the kind of kid id lock in his room haha.. he wants all the attention…But the thing is he cant hold it…hmmm…with age maybe…

Siobhan is so more interesting than anyone on that show! If you love Vanilla Pop you wont like her! If you love spice with with a shot of WTF? YOU WILL :)

lOVED her Hanson Tune ..& Halo tune was sweet!

  • summersnow

Wow I’m impressed and I’m not even a fan. Never thought that she could sing R&B and play the piano. This performance showcases another aspect of her musicality and could have been THE moment for her on the show. I guess it could be becos they don’t have a R&B theme yet. It’s such a pity…

  • songsungblue

I hate Vanilla Pop and I don’t like her [singing]. I actually find her very bland.

  • sb2

She mentioned it while answering the twitter questions..

“I was a bit intimidated to play piano on the show since it would’ve been two things that I have to concentrate on rather than just singing”
