  ETA: Another interview with Simon from Access Hollywood

  • Although he thinks Jordin is a better singer, he thinks Blake will be easier to produce.   He says, “I think Blake would be easier to produce because he’s more contemporary…I mean, there are a lot of people out there like Jordin already. I think Blake is an easier artist to focus on.”
  • After his Idol contract is up in 3 years, he claims that he’ll be done with Idol to concentrate on producing.

The second half is more interesting than the first.

  • Simon  Cowell claims that he can’t  predict the winner of  the competition this year.   He calls it “The Entertainer vs. the Singer.”   He believes it will come right down to the wire at the end.   He thinks that is a good thing.
  • Simon says, contrary to what’s been written in the tabloids, he is NOT engaged to be married.
  • Simon said he was “really depressed for 24 hours” after Melinda Doolittle was booted last week. He thought she was the best singer and tried harder than the other contestants.

    The fact that Simon will not pick a winner tells me that there may likely be no obvious coronation tonight.

    In other words they do not care who wins.

    Well, I don’t think Simon cares who wins because he had a sweet spot for Melinda. I think the producers care very much. They want Jordin.

    I think Simon likes who he likes whether they’re TCO or not. Sometimes it’s who the producers want and sometimes it’s not. This season it wasn’t.

    I enjoyed the dog comment and the nonsense that he says to Paula. I actually read his book and the first season she hired a joke writer so she could zing him back but they failed dreadfully. I caught one in the season 1 rewind show. :laugh_tb:

    I actually think Simon really likes Blake, and appreciates his talent. He sees $$$ , he also likes the fact Blake is very current and contemporary. He just had a very soft spot for Melinda. Cute.

    Even though Jordin will probably win, I think Blake will be very successful too.
    I am so happy for him… Go Team Plaid!

    Melinda “tried harder” than the other contestants? Hmmmm … only one of the top three prepared three new songs last week, and it wasn’t his precious Melinda!

    Cumulatively, maybe yes she did. And I highly doubt Blake didn’t already know his third song like the back of his hand. He did and that’s why he chose it. Blake also didn’t have to fly halfway across the country for his home visit. Seattle is 2 hrs away. Nashville is more like 4 which cuts into rehearsal time no matter how you look at it.

    Simon’s a hoot…and, it’s clear to see that he no longer cares who wins. Well, at least he admits that he gave Melinda the kiss of death. Hehe. I can’t wait until the finale.

    Pardon me being jaded, BUT…
    I don’t for a minute believe most of what Simon says. He’s pretty much a big con, but alternately a laugh (sometimes), and most of the time KNOWS exactly what he’s doing/saying/manipulating. He can turn on the charm when he chooses and flash his smile, but he’s basically $$$$ and manipulates towards that. I don’t “really” believe he wanted Melinda (or Lakisha) to win, nor did he think they would…but he’s doing a butt covering after the Jennifer Hudson stuff. So now he’s showing that he can love and praise (with a little criticism well timed) females who are either heavy or not in the cute pop star image. He comes off looking good. I think he KNEW Melinda was not going to be in the final, so he could afford to act like he wanted her to win. Hey, he’s after the pop star money.

    And I don’t know what his problem is with Taylor,although it was obvious from the start that he did NOT want him to even be in the competition much less to win. But…gosh

    Simon started bashing Clay only after Clay was the first idol to get a lawyer and get out of the orig. contract…then he said all kinds of mean stuff about Clay and Simon’s girl friend did the same on news shows I saw her on. Then AI I’m sure, “adjusted” their next contracts. It’s called an ax to grind.

    blah blah blah….yadda yadda…sorry.

    I will try to find the interview but in an interview I read today Simon said that his only concern is “selling lots and lots of records.”

    So yeah he didn’t care about Melinda as much as he said he did.
