Ryan Seacrest interviewed Simon Cowell on his KIIS radio show this morning. Simon says, he’ll miss the fun he had on Idol, but will not miss traveling to the auditions.  Fantasia’s “Summertime” was his favorite performance on Idol.  The worst? Clay Aiken’s “Grease.”

Also, Ryan says there are several tribute videos airing tonight on the finale…

He needs as many tributes as possible

They will probably postpone winner’s announcement until tomorrow’s press conference.

Hmmmm…the best he could come up with was Fantasia’s Summertime? Has he even been paying attention during all of these seasons? And thanks Simon, for one more Clay Aiken jab on worst performance before you’re gone. Oh well, I would have guessed he would have said “anything by Taylor Hicks”, but I guess he doesn’t even want to give Taylor credit for that…

    I’m gonna miss Simon. :(

  • Judee

LoL. this is really funny. poor Randy.

  • Mtlfan

They really need to find someone ‘big’ enough to fill his shoes! I’ll miss him but we’ll see him on x factor..

  • Mtlfan

    love Crystal… she’s a cool chick

  • Esqt

Lee sounds articulate, to me. I guess he just needs more exposure to the media. He’ll improve over time & will do just fine (contrary to popular belief)

  • Grammie Kari

Thank you to Simon, for bringing us a great show. However, I will not miss the cruelty he often showed towards contestants. I feel bad that American Idol may lose ratings with Simon gone. I would love for the producers to find the formula for a successful Season 10 show.

Simon said his favorite contestant was Fantasia, so I am not surprised he would select a song she did sing. I have watched the Grease perfomance many times, and Clay sings in tune and it is a fun number. He is talking about one of the BEST contestants to ever come out of the show. Too bad Simon couldn’t appreciate him. (Oh, and Taylor Hicks, too.)

Ryan really seems to like CrystaLee a lot. I’m glad.

Best and worst performance from the first three seasons? Lol, guess who hasn’t been paying attention since 2004 (although I do think the first 4 seasons were way more entertaining)

  • workdog

Maybe he’s still pissed Clay squeezed his girlfriend’s boobs first.:-) Hey, obviously it was all in fun, Simon.:-)

Naw, he has always hated that number, even if it is a bit misplaced. As GrammieKari says it was a decent enough vocal but the jacket and whatnot just weren’t all that. Guess Simon can’t get past that.

I would laugh my ass off if he sang that for him tonight. Simon’s eyes would roll out of his head.

For all his assholishness at times, though, Simon is the heart of the judging panel; they’re going to have a tough time replacing him. Simon epitomized the anonymous opinion givers on the internet, saying what many thought, but he did it upfront. AI won’t be the same without him.

He still makes me laugh with his absurdity and I have a love/dislike connection to him. Can’t really hate him, can’t love him either. But one thing is for sure…he did it/does it his way.:-)

  • Caden

Oh that Simon. If this is the worst performance in his opinion, he needs his hearing checked. It was vocally perfect and all in fun.

    Grease on YouTube

  • abbysee

Well Simon is entitled to his opinion, correct? FWIW most polls done on the subject list Fantasia’s Summertime as the best Idol performance ever, and I pretty much agree. Now Clay’s Grease is not the worse, but it’s pretty damn awful, vocal perfection and all. I mean Aaron Kelly would have added more edge to that song. Oh hell I had to go and look at it, once the gyrations started, and it looked like he had a tic or something, I remembered why Simon could hate it so much.

Considering Simon always suspected Clay was gay, I doubt he gave second thought to the grabbing of his girlfriends boobs. Most of us knew it was just horseplay and not foreplay anyway, right ;)

  • workdog

Of course, abby. It was only a joke, hence the :-) at the end of the sentence. I was only joking about it all anyway. No worries. It’s all good. As to an opinion, sure, everyone can have one, including Simon; but, truthfully, I myself can’t imagine that Grease was the worst over these long years, I mean, Yellow Brick Road? Crocodile Rock? Celebration? The chillrun? And So it Goes? On and on and on…mind boggling how many horrific ones there were…:-)

I’ll just pass on the gay no gay thing..it’s kinda redundant.;-)

  • BM2587

I like Simon but dude is a dumbass. He claims he won’t miss traveling to auditions yet when X-Factor starts he’ll be doing the same thing………

  • calimari

I still think Kristy Lee Cook’s 8 Days a Week is the gold standard of Idol suckage.

  • ntdawg

Even Clay would tell you Grease wasn’t his best performance, but the worst of all time? Don’t think so. Clay’s vocals were spot on the whole season. Simon just had to get one more knife into Clay’s back before leaving the show. Clay and Ruben’s season is what made AI so popular. Unfortunately they tried every year to re-create that drama and could not. They have had some good performers on the show since then (David C, Adam), but never two almost equals to create such competitiveness.
